One of the best HDD for Surveillance Systems
I have recently upgraded my CCTV set-up to 8 cameras and needed more storage and this HDD works without any hiccup, all the data is recorded seamlessly and playback has no issues either.Please note, this kind of HDD is not for gaming or storing movies & music. These are meant for surveillance systems and are made to run 24×7 for years. They constantly write multiple streams of data onto the disk. Although it will fit into the HDD slot of your desktop and will store data. You could even use a USB connector and use it as an external HDD, I am doing the same thing with my old HDD from my CCTV.

I installed this HD in my surveillance unit. Worked Fantastic for about 4 months!!!Then….It stopped working. It was not bumped or moved, as it was installed in a closet for electronics only. Huge waste of money. I would’ve been better off ordering a whole new system rather than to blow the $ on this crap. Warranty dept is the worst!

This is the third one of these hard drives I have purchased for my surveillance Network Video Recorders over the last five years. They have all been in service 24 hours a day with no failures. I recommended the same drive to my friend several years ago and his is still working great also. I just wish they came with the mounting screws, it would make installation even easier.

Anyone looking for spectacular performance from a surveillance drive is in for a rude awakening. 1. This is for Digital or Network Video Recorders. It isn’t for a PC. 2. It functions at 5400 RPMs to extend the life of the drive. 3. If you’re looking for a good NVR/DVR drive, look no further. These are rock-solid with a low failure rate4 stars because mine already has a bad sector on it (less than 3 months old) but it isn’t affecting anything as it’s isolated. Bad sectors aren’t uncommon with larger drives so not worth docking more than 1 star. Will update if it degrades further.

Lei varias reseñas sobre el uso de discos para cierto propósito de uso, y este cumple perfecto con lo necesario para almacenar video en un DVR de CCTV. Siendo un equipo que se encuentra activo y en funcionamiento 24x7x365 (con la excepción de aquellas interrupciones por suministro eléctrico) es un disco confiable, y de buena calidad. El nivel de ruido es bajo, pero depende también de dónde se encuentre montado, muchas veces el ruido viene del contacto de los materiales del DVR con la superficie donde esta instalado, mas que del propio disco. Muy recomendable.

Before reading any review read this: there is a key problem with the way this section is set up. For some reason it lists a very old (2014) model of this drive along with the same New Generation improved model. What makes that bad is that the user comments are both mixed together, so any problems with the original drive appear right on top of the list and may be misleading. It’s very important then to look at the tiny print at the top of each comment and see if the user is talking about the Old Generation style or the New Generation style. To be clear, I am talking about the improved New Generation style.If you are not already familiar with the difference between a general purpose hard drive and one designed for video security let me start with a very basic comparison. This comparison is very broad and not a textbook definition by any means.HOW IT WORKSComputers write and read their information to a hard drive in tiny chunks that are scattered randomly all over the disk, so the recording/playback heads are constantly jumping from place to place. Speed of access in a computer is extremely important. On the other hand video surveillance recorders write and read their information more like an old-fashioned tape recorder, pretty much just like what the cameras are seeing in real time. The recording/playback heads are only required to jump to another spot on the disk when you want to play back an event. So random-access search time is far less of a priority than the non-stop grunt work of recording dependably 24/7/365 without a hiccup. The two processes are entirely different job tasks.COMPARISON: BRAND A VS. BRAND BThere are two major brands of specialized video surveillance hard drives. My NVR is one of the most respected out there for users who have a lot of experience and they chose to use the other brand of hard drive. Kudos to them because many other video security manufacturers believe you’ll never know what’s inside so they install the cheapest no-name generic hard drive they can buy. I’ve been buying this brand of security system for years and have been very happy with it and when I wanted to increase my drive capacity from 2TB to 4TB I had no idea if switching to a WD brand drive would make any difference at all. Engineers told me that the two brands are not identical in their design philosophy, each brand considering certain design parameters to be the slightly better way to go.IS THERE A DIFFERENCEBecause the NVR software, firmware and other factors play at least as much of a role in performance as the hard drive I was looking to improve these things:1. Drive noise2. Drive heat3. Stuttering (when the image suddenly jumps or drops a few frames, usually on playback)I measured the operating temperature both drives in real-life use in identical conditions using a precision instrument. The original drive was operating at 97.7 F and the WD measured at 91.6 F. That 6 degree difference is significant but not substantial.Likewise I used a calibrated sound level meter for each drive. The original drive came in at 47 dBA. The WD was at 46.9 dBA, virtually identical.The last condition is more difficult to quantify because stuttering is sporadic, so in my opinion I would classify any differences in a typical use scenario as atypical, was I experiencing fewer or more instances of stuttering or about the same? I tried to make my comparison without prejudice for or against either brand because I really don’t care whose name is on it. I bought the WD primarily to double my recording capacity and hence the number of days it would record events. That being said in real-life everyday use I have to lean slightly toward the WD as having fewer instances of jumping, stuttering or frame dropping in my particular system and it does seem to handle a few second backspace more smoothly than the original drive. Maybe another way of putting it is that the WD seems to be playing nicer with the NVR’s software/firmware than the brand the manufacturer originally spec’d.WILL IT IMPROVE MY SECURITY SYSTEMThe short answer is not really. Any differences in operating temperature and noise level are too close to be significant and both brands are optimized for video security so abnormalities like stuttering are just that, and are not completely attributable to the hard drive. We can say categorically that the brand or type of hard drive you use will not improve the image resolution (picture quality) of your system.BOTTOM LINE SATISFACTIONAll things considered the WD is consistently a few bucks more than the other brand and I’m not a big fan of ever paying more if I don’t have to. So based on the few things I could measure and one that I could only perceive I have to say I do like this drive and I believe I made the right choice.

I purchased this a while back and didn’t want to rate too quickly. It’s a nice drive; tons of storage; comes preloaded with security software installed; and works great. I purchased a dvr and camera kit and unbeknownst to me, the seller kept the hard drive to re-sell, but I met him for the sale and was unable to return the unit, so I purchased this HD and it rock. With 8 cameras running on ‘motion’ I can easily retain a month’s worth of video. It’s overkill, but works as stated.

je viens de l’acheté …5 jours et il est à la maison, avec un emballage au top… disque scotcher sur une petit carton de son volume ferme à l’intérieure d’un gros carton remplie de papier épais …pour les gens comme moi qui aimes les disque dur comme des autres gens aimes les animaux.. vraiment je suis ravie… car emballage au top c-d-a longévité possible …après disque très silencieux 3,62 To c’est pour çà que je mets 4 étoile mais je sais on calcul en 10 puissance et non pas à 2 puissance… disque qui ne chauffe vraiment pas … en plus de sa compatibilité pour des heure et des heure de sauvegarde de camera …alors je dit présent… copie des grand fichier (Film 1080p) 🙂 pour une vitesse stable à 120 mo/s avec des pique à 131 mo /s… moi je l’ai choisie pour de la sauvegarde après plusieurs crache de disque externe je revient pour de bon vers le format 3,5 pouce et WD comme garantie et la couleur violet pour la longévité ..à bon entendeur ” les disques à 5400 t/mn vivent beaucoup plus longtemps que ceux à 7200 voir 10000 t/mn”

Vor dem Austausch zunächst ein erweiterter Smart-Test, Dauer etwa 7,5 Stunden. Wie erwartet fehlerfrei. Nun läuft ein Preclear (1x lesen, 1x nullen, 1x lesen).Durchschnittslesegeschwindigkeit 142 MiB/sec, Dauer 7h 48 min. Platte 34°C in Dockingstation (SATA-Schniiistelle) bei Raumtemperatur 20-21°C.Durchschnittsschreibgeschwindigkeit 147 MiB/sec, Dauer 7h 35 min.Sobald Preclear beendet ist, gibt es ein Update mit Austausch und Dauer des Parity-sync.Parity-rebuild (Array mit 7 Datenplatten zwischen 500 GiB-3 TiB) beendet nach 11h 45 min., 95 MiB/sec.Soweit so gut. Falls Unregelmäßigkeiten auftauchen, gibt es ein Update.

4TB is a great size for 12-16 cameras holds for 3-4 weeks depending on quality. I buy only these drives over and over for the last 10 years. They have a great warranty on them right through western digital.

I was looking for a drive that was specifically built for write-heavy applications, such as the UDM Pro Unifi Protect function for security camera footage, and this fit the bill.It replaced an aging WD Red I had which wasn’t really designed for continuous day-in-and-out writes. It’s been a few months since and I have had no problems with it so far. Navigating in the Unifi Protect app felt pretty smooth even though it was recording for five cameras at once.

Bought before Xmas for a new NVR and it seems to work fine in that – OTOH, before going into the NVR, it did sterling duty in allowing me to copy off files from a misbehaving USB 4-bay box attached to a NAS that needed quite a bit of rebuilding before I could copy the files back to the USB box and then get the NAS+USB box running smoothly again.Price and delivery were very good.

The drive works well but was disappointed that the SATA cable wasn’t included since I bought 2 drives to upgrade my surveillance system and there was only one cable in the system. Also, no screws are included to mount the drives so I had to cannibalize and older computer in order to mount the extra drive.

Veloce sia a scrivere che a leggere.Nella confezione è incluso solo l’Hard disk senza cavi Sata e per l’alimentazione ne viti per il fissaggio.Unica pecca ma non c’entra con il venditore è la spedizione. Il corriere ha lasciato il pacchetto dal vicino senza nemmeno suonare il campanello e richiedere la firma.. servizio di consegna abbastanza scadente

The way video recording systems work, they need the storage device to work 24/7 without a hitch, because a hitch means lost video. WD Purple drives are optimized for this kind of workload, and are my first choice for a storage device that needs to run continuously without no breaks.I’ve been running an 8 TB Purple drive in a video surveillance recorder for the last 2 years 7 months, filling completely and overwriting every week, and it has performed flawlessly. I’ve been running a 3 TB Purple drive in a DirecTV DVR for the last 4 years 7 months and it has also performed flawlessly. The 4 TB drive has been in service for only one month now, and is fine.

Ich benutze die Festplatten im QNAP NAS ohne Probleme. Im Vergleich zu WD Red waren die Purple hier etwas günstiger. Diese sind ebenfalls für den Dauerbetrieb ausgelegt, deswegen habe ich es einfach mal versucht. Bei mir bilden 3 dieser Festplatten ein RAID 5. Bei mir steht das NAS jedoch im Keller, so dass ich zur Geräuschentwicklung nicht wirklich etwas sagen kann. Ob diese auch für das Wohnzimmer-NAS o.ä. geeignet wären weiß ich demnach nicht.

Purchased (1/13/21), Received (1/14/21), Installed (1/16/21). So far so good (1/15/21). Easy install for the LaView NVR that took, maybe 30 min. from the time of unhooking everything, to removing existing 2TB (Damaged) HDD, install new 4TB HDD. Reconnect, initiate HDD, and up and running. Just wait to how if it will overwrite when HDD is full. I’ve had this unit for two years and would get to a point where it would stop recording, and would have to initiate, losing the data, and having to start over. NVR is set to overwrite, and motion only.

Utilisation de ce disque dans un enregistreur pour caméras. 4to permet d’enregistrer plusieurs jours sans problème. J’ai déjà eu des wd purple et je n’ai jamais été embêté. Ils sont plus chers que certaines autres marque mais c’est peut être le prix de la tranquillité.Livrée dans un sac anti électricité statique puis dans un carton basique.

Utilizo este tipo de discos duros par mi NAS, es de la seria de Surveillance de Western Digital WD, los cuales están diseñados para equipos de grabación de cámaras de seguridad. Esto significa que están hechos para trabajar las 24 horas del día, por lo tanto la vida útil de estos discos duros son mas larga que los otros normales.También hay la serie roja de WD que estan hechos especificamente para los NAS, pero estos de la serie lila son más baratos y hacen lo mismo que los rojos.La única pega que le doy es que podrían ser un poquito mas rápidos, 7200 rpm, pero supongo que después subiría mas el precio.También es ideal para montarlo en el pc como disco de respaldo, no para guardar los juegos, para eso utiliza un SSD por ejemplo.Compra estos y no tendrás que cambiar de disco duro frecuentemente, no te decepcionaranNo te defrauran

Todavía no lo he examinado para detectar si a consecuencia del envío tiene sectores dañados, pero enviar un disco duro con la desprotección con la que ha sido enviado este es sencillamente ridículo. El embalaje ha sido nulo: el disco duro en una bolsa de plástico (ni siquiera mullida, sólo plástico fino) en la caja. Ha estado zarandeándose y dándose golpes durante todo el camino (se notan las muescas en el plástico de los golpes) sin ningún tipo de protección. Si el disco está dañado lo devolveré de inmediato; de hecho, aunque no lo esté en el primer día, me pregunto hasta qué punto el envío puede haber causado daños estructurales que se revelen más adelante. Piezas tan delicadas deben ir mejor embaladas.Por lo demás, los WD Purple son ya conocidos, y en lo que se refiere a silenciosos son imbatibles.**Tras examinar el disco he subido mi valoración porque no parece tener daños y el silencio de los Purple se cumple. De todas formas, venía fatal embalado y es una lotería que llegue en buenas condiciones.

Je connais cette marque depuis des années, sa capacité m’intéressait (pour archiver mes photos).Une fois installé, je l’ai utilisé en transférant des milliers de photos qui étaient stockées sur différents disques durs. Là, je me suis aperçu qu’il crée une vibration que les autres ne créent pas, ce qui donne un ronronnement parfois “pénible”. J’ai donc mis le support de ce disque (que j’ai installé un boîtier Connectland, sur un morceau de papier bulle et le nombre de db a considérablement diminué.Enfin, il chauffe beaucoup, mais il n’est pas le seul, j’ai d’autres Western Digital de 1 et 2 To. D’autres marques ont des DD qui ne chauffent pas autant. Reste à tester la pérennité dans le temps.En résumé : bon rapport/qualité prix, bonne capacité, mais quelques défauts mineursNote 7,4/10

Les disques durs coûtent de moins en moins cher, mais là, soit on a à faire à un surplus, soit les prix ont baissé de manière draconienne. Quoi qu’il en soit, j’ai ajouté ce disque dur à un NVR, et je n’ai absolument rien à redire. Il semble fonctionner sans problème, et ne fait pas trop de bruit. À moi les joies de l’enregistrement de vidéosurveillance sans peine de devoir regarder s’il y a assez d’espace disque 🙂

テレビの24時間録画用に購入。今のところ問題なく稼働しています。ただ、他の方もレビューなさっていますが梱包がフリー梱包＋数個のエアクッションのみで少し傾けただけで段ボール内で自由闊達に動いてしまう状態でした。ある方のレビューに「HDの非動作時の梱包の甘さの非問題性」の記載がありましたが、そんな問題以前の梱包レベルと感じました。ただ、アマゾンさんのフォローもしておきますと、数日遅れて届いたHDケースは段ボール内にホットボンドでしっかり固定されており安心できる梱包でした。なので合わせ考えますとプラマイマイナスといった感じです。

AGGIORNAMENTO 19/11/2022 DECEDUTO!Stamattina ho notato il dvr off line,credevo in un problema di rete, temporaneo,invece da una verifica, ho riscontrato che l’HDD si è guastato (senza alcun preavviso o precedente) indi dovrò ordinarne un altro per il mio impianto TVCC.LASCIO COMUNQUE LE 5 STELLE POICHÈ ERA IN FUNZIONE DAL GENNAIO 2018 24/24 7/7 e mi ritengo soddisfatto!HDD Interno da 4 Tera TBWD40PURZ specifico per video sorveglianza ad alta risoluzione.Imballo perfetto.Spedizione celere e nel rispetto del dichiarato tramite GLS.Apparato nuovo e blisterato di fabbrica.L’hard disk è installato in un impianto tvcc da 8 video camere a 3 megapixel cadauna, ho quindi preferito la versione da 4 Tb per aver maggior capacità di salvataggio e soprattutto perchè la serie “Z” purple è specifica per la video sorveglianza, dovendo essere in funzione 24 ore al giorno, 7 giorni su 7.Grazie per avermi letto.

Ce HDD est déjà bien silencieux, donc une fois monté dans un boitier spécial ou même dans de la mousse on entend strictement rien.En revanche, le coup de la mousse me l’a fait monter en température ( bon 50 degrés c’est pas non plus un drame)Depuis, dans un boitier spécial insonorsté Scythe SCH1000 sur silent-block, on est est sur 35 degrés, et tout va bien.

REGZA 55Z7(2013年購入)のタイムシフト用 I-O DATA AVHD-ZRC7(タイムシフト3TB×2+録画1TB)が障害発生で使用不可となり、こちらのWD Purpleを購入。AVHD-ZRC7に入っていたHDDはWD GreenのAV-GP WD30EURX 3TB×2だった為、Green or BlueとPurpleで購入に迷ったが、容量アップ(3TB→4TB)と金額と監視カメラ用とのメーカー謳い文句を信じてPurpleを購入。3TB→128時間だったが、4TB→172時間になり約8日間程度のタイムシフトになった。HDDケースはLogitec LGB-EKU3を使用。今の所順調に動いているが、どの程度安定稼働するのかを見守りたい。なお、I-O DATA AVHD-ZRC7の内臓HDD3TBは２台とも生きていた為、通常録画用HDDとして使用することにした。思っていたより低予算でタイムシフトが復活したので非常に良かった。というか、そもそもHDDケースだけ購入してI-O DATA AVHD-ZRC7からHDDを移植すれば良かったじゃん！！！と後悔しつつ・・・容量が増えたことに対し、しぶしぶ自分を納得させたという程で。。。泣※2020/2/29追記約半年経過したが、順調稼働中。全く問題無し。無事に夏・冬を乗り越えられた。

4TB is a great size for 12-16 cameras holds for 3-4 weeks depending on quality. I buy only these drives over and over for the last 10 years. They have a great warranty on them right through western digital.

The drive works well but was disappointed that the SATA cable wasn’t included since I bought 2 drives to upgrade my surveillance system and there was only one cable in the system. Also, no screws are included to mount the drives so I had to cannibalize and older computer in order to mount the extra drive.

Ya es el tercer disco que compro de este tipo (Western Digital Purple survillance) y son una maravilla en cuanto silenciosos y confiables (2 para mi y uno para un amigo) y funcionan sin fallas hasta la fecha.Estos discos vienen más reforzados pues están diseñados para trabajo de grabación continuo ya que son para cajas de vigilancia con funcionamiento 24×7.Después de una mala experiencia con un Barracuda que vibraba de manera muy molesta (era a 7200rpm) prefiero este tipo de disco más confiable y silencioso (5400rpm). Además son con tecnología de grabación CMR que en términos concretos graban de manera continua en la superficie sin tener que almacenar en cache para grabar en una segunda vuelta como hacen los SMR, lo que se traduce en mayor rapidez en grabación, aunque en lectura tienen poca desventaja.Funcionan como cualquier disco normal; se pueden formatear sin problemas para ext4 (linux) o ntfs32 (windows) o lo que se prefiera.

For a few years now I’ve used HGST NAS drives for Camera DVR/NVR’s….Noticing a while back that HGST released their newer model of that drive…increasing the cache to 128mb…I thought it could only get better. The reviews tell another story so I decided to go elsewhere. I ran into someone recently who mentioned they use these Purple drives and had for 2 years. I decided why not. I got my first one recently and put it into someone’s camera NVR and it seems to work fine. Oh so quiet and quite snappy. Time will tell on the distance they go but so far, these have taken over the green drives successfully.It’s funny how some companies Hard Drive models work great…and some are dud’s. Go figure how these cheaper prurple drives seem to be more reliable than their higher end ones. The Blue drives were rock solid back in their day…but those days are gone.

I purchased this a while back and didn’t want to rate too quickly. It’s a nice drive; tons of storage; comes preloaded with security software installed; and works great. I purchased a dvr and camera kit and unbeknownst to me, the seller kept the hard drive to re-sell, but I met him for the sale and was unable to return the unit, so I purchased this HD and it rock. With 8 cameras running on ‘motion’ I can easily retain a month’s worth of video. It’s overkill, but works as stated.

Bought this hard drive to add to my Luma surveillance system and it works as expected. With the Luma system it was pretty much just a plug and play set up. So quick and easy I thought I missed a step somewhere. It’s recording, though, so all is well. Would have been nice if it came with mounting screws but it didn’t (nor was it advertised to come with them). I took two screws from diagonal corners of the existing hard drive to mount this one. The recorder just sits on a shelf so both drives are plenty secure and work fine. You will also need a power cable so make sure you have one on hand. Will order again if needed.

サイズアップもかねて4TBのモデルを購入したのですが、これを機に5,400rpm→7,200rpm化も出来ればと思っていたのですが、7,200rpmは3TBまでで届いた製品は5,400rpmでした(WDのサイトにも4TBは5,400rpmのみ)。以前は3TBの日立Deskstar/3TBを利用していましたが、交換後はついてるのかよく分からないほど静かになりました。あとは耐久性に期待。

Being a Fan of Western Digital I decided to give their Surveillance Hard drive a try.. I currently have 9 cameras running constantly at my home to keep my property protected. And I had a 1tb drive on my system and had only 4 days of backup which these days is NOTHING.. I now have one day over 2 weeks or backup.. Totally going to upgrade to a 12 tb once I can get it. worth its weight in gold.. Just remember you’re not going to be able to do a visual inventory of your stuff every day but with a good NVR and a large hard drive you will be able to periodically check your stuff and notice differences and catch what is going on. The larger the Hard Drive the better chance you have to keep a good eye on your stuff and have evidence in case of a situation. My situation is odd due to having a multitude of resolutions. Honestly All of my cameras (except 2) are from the Same Manufacture and I love them.. Probably shouldn’t mention S3VC cameras but sorry gotta say excellent cameras for any good NVR (AMCREST) My cameras have resolutions from 1080 to 5 mp cameras(oldest camera is 720 ). Including a great camera from FOSCAM (which I didn’t know it had audio) So you may have 4 or 6 cameras which most people get Standard resolution cameras (which are fine if your just wanting to see what happened without enough resolution to see who it was in most cases) I go 1080 or higher just so I can get good visuals of who or what happened with better ability to see what your protecting. So in a situation with 6 cameras at Standard Definition you will have at more than a month of recording easy. This drive is designed for Security camera recording and should last longer than a regular system drive. Will recommend to anyone who is in the market to buy a hard drive.

I have recently upgraded my CCTV set-up to 8 cameras and needed more storage and this HDD works without any hiccup, all the data is recorded seamlessly and playback has no issues either.Please note, this kind of HDD is not for gaming or storing movies & music. These are meant for surveillance systems and are made to run 24×7 for years. They constantly write multiple streams of data onto the disk. Although it will fit into the HDD slot of your desktop and will store data. You could even use a USB connector and use it as an external HDD, I am doing the same thing with my old HDD from my CCTV.
