I Used AOMEI Backupper Standard to transfer data its free if you only need to clone a drive.Not as clear on instructions as I would have liked but it worked and did not allow by default 500gb Western Digital to 500gb partition sizes slightly different I had to look for options to use all of the empty drive but I did find the option and used the entire drive. So 100% success.So far so good much better eed than a standard hard disk I have not tested performance on this old system I’m guessing the controller is 3gb not 6gb but boot time and app startup noticeably better, playback of videos smoother. It restored some life to an older PC.What I don’t like, only that I had to go track down a AOMEI backupper drive cloning software. I like how Samsung has their own cloning software Samsung Magician which is fool proof. But it only works with Samsung SSD’s

I’ve been using this as a boot drive for a gaming PC and have had 0 issues, I’ve not run any in-depth tests to get exact stats and metrics but If you are coming from an HDD you’ll 100% notice an amazing difference in load times and I can confirm it’s not slowed down any after the two years of hard use I’ve put it through.

I have been using a Hitachi 1TB HDD for around a year when I first built my pc, that thing was slow. So slow that Destiny 2 would literally have loading screens mid multiplayer game.This is my first ever SSD and it is like heaven, so…so fast. Windows boots in around 5 seconds, downloading games is extremely quick, and it makes my pc feels 15x faster than it was before. I get around 500mps read & write when the drive is empty, when half full I get around 320mps read & write, both of these results are more than your’ll need for gaming.

This is a good hard drive, it is quite fast, but it isn’t a full Sata 6gb drive, while all my SSDs will be a stable 320-340MB/s.This drive will hold a decent 200-220MB/s. Which is kind of below par, being said. I would still buy this drive again, and again for a decent priced drive. I am wondering how they run in a RAID1,5,6. Once I get 5 more I’ll report those eeds

Bought a 500GB as a replacement for my 250 GB Crucial SSD because i was running low on ace. No problems so far and there is a 50% eed increase from my previous drive running MACRUM disk eed check. eeds went from 1 Gb/S to 1.5Gb/s on direct disk access. 0.6 to 1.0 GB/s for buffer access. So I am happy with it. Some people have had SSD drive failures after short times. If that happens I’ll update my review. If i had one complaint it would be that the drive case is plastic. My Crucial was a metal case. IMHO metal is a better conductor of heat than plastic and makes a slightly better fit and finish.

I think I’ll be happy with the product, I’ve had it for maybe a month now and there haven’t been any problems. Install was pretty tough though because there were no instructions and it vaguely mentioned the BIOS and the need to get into it for installation. I also didn’t know where to find the copy software without my brother in law. But once I figured out how to get into the BIOS and the copy software began it was pretty simple. Good learning experience. Wish there was a helpful installment manual

I replaced my wife’s 7200 rpm hard drive with the Starlite Scuda SSD 1TB drive. I cloned the drive. After I installed the new SSD drive in my Wife’s ASUS computer, the eed increase is amazing. The computer boots up in less than a minute from a cold start and wakes up from sleep mode in seconds.I don’t use any programs to check eeds. She feels like she has a new computer that is setup with all of her programs and settings already configured. The new SSD drive really eed it up, making it a very cost effective upgrade.The SSD drive itself works flawlessly. The quality of the drive high and it works like it should. It’s definitely rated at 5 stars.

Just started using a refurbished lappy I bought a few years, ago…perfect for my current requirements. However, I was running into regular stalls and poor performance with the 512G that I got with the system (a KingFast F10). Once I stuck this bugger (- Starlite Scuda -1TB SSD 3D NAND A55) in there, the entire user experience turned around…everything was reonsive, like it should have been, and I upped the capacity. My Partitioning software that I cloned the former drive with validated everything…got what I paid for- 1TB and not less than that. We’ll see where this goes long term, but in the meantime, the fixed a bad problem for a good price…value. Big cheers!

I’ve had this for 17 months. It’s been a pretty good drive. I use it for extra storage where I keep stuff I’m not working with every day. Performance seems fine. It’s a standard SATA/600 SSD. But, just yesterday, my backup solution alerted me to a bad block on the drive!I’m actually looking at the drive’s S.M.A.R.T. data while I type this and the drive’s measurement for “Uncorrectable sectors count when read/write” went up by 2 while I wrote.

I replaced a sata drive with this. Because it is much thinner, I had to tape a cardboard filler to the top side of the drive in order to get the pins to align with the Dell D620 computer’s. I cloned the new drive using Macrium software. This is my second ssd from this company and completes the conversion of all my laptops to ssd. No problems with this brand of ssd. All the laptops boot in 15 seconds and run much faster.

I have been using ssd’s for a lot of years, with a variety of sizes and brands, this one being the latest. I will admit that in the past I have stuck to the more well-known brands because they were often used as system drives in my computers, but this time I just wanted to upgrade the mechanical drive in my PS4 so I went with a cheaper drive.Aside from the very basic packaging and the plastic rather than metal housing, the drive was essentially what I was familiar with. A few screws was all the install took, and 14 months later it still works well as the main drive in a PS4 Pro. I can’t comment on other details like ecific data transfer rates or temperature as the ssd isn’t in a computer, but in my case and for my needs this budget drive has been perfect.

I picked this up as a replacement for my parent’s first gen icore laptop. I at first had problems installing the os on this ssd, but was able to figure out using the included cloning software code, and sata to USB adaptor. I replaced my traditional 7200 RPM 1TB Hard Disk Drive (HDD) with this Starlite Scuda A55 1TB Solid State Drive (SSD); and this new SSD is exceedingly faster than the HDD that it replaced. I tested each drive using CrystalDiskMark so that you can see the ratings for yourself. I have no complaints. I only have positive comments about this SSD. I recommend.

Great product. Easy to use and worked right of the box. Easy to set up as well. Much faster than stock hard drive. Windows 10 boots in 8-10 seconds. Has plenty of ace for just about anything. I’ve stored tons of programs and games like Call of duty: Modern Warfare, Fortnite, GTA V, War Thunder, and Apex Legends, and still have about 450gb left. I highly recommend this drive to anyone who wants a cheaper ssd that is a good deal and works great as well.

Great Value – cheapest way to upgrade my laptop – if you have low end 5400 RPM drive like ones that comes with most consumer laptops, you’ll want to switch to this .. for $100 you get a much faster start-up and your laptops feels so much faster .. switching from a 4 GB to at least 8 GB will also give you a huge boost as well .. so for only $150, you’ll get a tremendous boost in performance eecially if you do any video or audio editing.

Excellent SSD, is very fast (not intended for Server applications), but on a desktop, laptop, or backup drive, it s a little rocket. I do large BIM and 3D CAD Drawings, and software is always having a trip up about something, so I Auto Save my work efforts every 3 minutes, this drive is so fast, I never know it is happening. Retrieving a large file (18-20 Mb) takes no time at all. Now that I have tried it, I wish that I had bought the 2 or 3 Tb unit !

Maybe for everyday use, these drives are usable. For my use, they were going to be used in RAID to store media files for a media server. using 4 drives for 4TB total drive ace I was transferring 3.5TB of existing media from hard disk to this new RAID array of SSDs. After 2.5GB or so the transfer eed would slow to 10-15Mbps which was excruciatingly slow. After that finally finished if I ever needed to add an additional file over 2GB or so then I had to be prepared to wait a long time for that file to finish transferring.I first thought it was the enclosure I had the drives in. But I’ve tried many, and also used them internally via SATA. Doesn’t matter the connection type, doesn’t matter the format. I’ve used it on MAC, PC, and LINUX with NTFS, APFS, and EXT. the same limitation exists. These drives for me are worthless because of that and I’ve begun to give them away one by one. Not worth $5 let alone $100.

It’s DRAM-LESS unit so I expected it to be a little slower than DRAM units, but not as slow as it is. I would not use this as an OS drive unless I had to.For the price at the time it was a reliable SSD and it replaced a 5400 RPM laptop HDD so the owner of said laptop was ecstatic with its performance. I on the other hand could see the issues after I installed it and threw a fresh copy of windows 10 on it. For a power user this is not your drive. To replace an HDD on the cheap, it’s fine. I’d also recommend this brand for SSD storage.

Purchased this one AUG2020….Fast forward to Feb2022 and IS DEAD!!!! I bought this SSD ecifically for Steam for Gaming. The loading was MUCH slower then other SSD’s I had but I didn’t mind…. as time progressed it kept getting slower and slower… until today it was completely dead and the computer would not even detect it. I tried everything to make sure it wasn’t another issue and its definitely gone. I purchased one 500GB(system) and one 1TB (gaming). Again the 1TB is completely dead and the 500 GB takes approximately 3mins to load up windows, I’m sure its probably getting ready to die also. Now in comparison to other SSD’s I have… I purchased a WD Green SSD 240GB about 4+ years ago and it still working like the first day I bought it. I recommend going with a better known brand like Crucial/Samsung/Kingston or ScanDisk that will last for much longer and maintain the performance over time.

At first I gave it a five stars since it is fast comparing to my other SSDs. I then changed it to one star since my laptop could not recognize the drive. As it turns out, it was a Lenovo issue. However, it may have something to do with the SSD was heat up to a limit of the Lenovo. Once I add a vent to cool the laptop down, it was then Okay. It has been Okay since. Hence, I changed it back to four stars for its performance.

Plugged it in, it worked. Unplugged/plugged it in again and iy the pc no longer recognized it. Device manager showed it was plugged in but File Explorer didnt show anything. Normally plugging in a new storage device propts windows 10 to tell you it found a new device, it never did it again after the first time plugging it in.

This SSD was super easy to install, boots very fast, and has lots of storage capacity. I did need to buy a disk tray to install it in, but that was only $5 at best buy. The 1 TB storage ace has been more than enough for all my games and software so far, and everything loads up and downloads very fast. The price point for this SSD is pretty standard, and overall I just think it’s a good purchase.

Used this to revive my old laptop. After installing windows and getting it up and running it was far better than when it was running off the old 5400 rpm drive the laptop came with. Would be fine for a new build that doesn’t have a nvme slot, just in case you were thinking about going with one of those formats.

This is the second one I have bought. I bought a 60GB for windows ONLY, I have had for almost 2 years and it is still as fast as the day I first got it. This second one is a 500GB for my laptop with an enclosure. I like them because they are reliable, fast and the app downloads are a nice bonus. For the price and performance, I have had a couple from “bigger names” that have lost eed over time and the reliability isn’t as stable and cost almost twice as much.

This drive was perfect for the system I was upgrading. I didn’t measure the eed, but it feels fast for reading and writing. The size and price are both good. Obviously if you have a newer system that supports a M.2 drive, use that instead, but for SATA, this is perfect.Technical data: The drive reports: 238.5 GiB, 256060514304 bytes, 500118192 sectors (as per fdisk under Linux, formatted file system ace will be slightly less). As with all drives, they advertise GB in decimal bytes, not in powers of two as they should.Warning: The package is just the drive. There are no screws. If you’re used to inning hard drives, they use different screws. Fortunately my case came with “SSD screws” that fit. In a pinch, the drive has no moving parts and is so light that I would have no qualms with installing it with electrical tape.I’m guessing that I would write a very similar review had I bought any other SATA SSD.

I was looking for an SSD with a capacity of 256 GB. To my surprise, most of the brands offer 240 GB SSD. As you know, all disk drives offer close to 95% of claimed ace for usage, if you buy a 256 GB disk then you ill get 235-240 GB usable ace. Hence, the lesser the capacity, the lesser the available ace for usage. This was the reason I opted for Starlite Scuda. The delivery was quick as always and what was shocking was the weight of the drive that sits at merely 36g. This means replacing my HDD with SSD in my laptop actually brings down the weight of the device. Not to mention SSDs make your computer faster. I am very happy and satisfied with Starlite Scuda SSD and will recommend it for those looking for budget SSD

This SSD runs pretty well for the price. I am not really a person who notices the minor difference in boot times between SSDs, but from a normal drive to this SSD there was a significant change in boot time. It usually takes between 10 to 15 seconds to boot up. The installation for this drive physically is not too bad and the installation of the operating system is very smooth. It doesn’t take too long to install windows 7-10 on it. When opening files and/or programs this drive does it fairly quickly and does not heat up too much. The only issue I have is I feel like the material is very weak. It had minor scratches on the casing and dents from just basic installation. You could easily bend the drive if you wanted with very little force. Overall the performance of the drive is great. I have absolutely not issues with the drive eed or performance. It a great replacement for a good price.

For 1 TB of storage for a measly $95, it is quite hard to find another product for this value. I have 2 of these bad bois in my current build and it’s wonderful.Boot times are nearly non-existent, loading into games is extremely short and sweet. Coming from HDD, this product will blow your mind.There are other big hitters in the market like Western Digital and Samsung, but they are all the more pricey. After reading reviews on the quality and value of the product, I chose 1 for beginning my build and quickly purchased another for another TB of storage.You won’t get RGB lighting or other fancy features with this SSD, but you will get a great drive for a great price, period.

So far so good. I’m using the drive in an external enclosure for backups. It’s fast. The only thing that bugs me is the maintenance software Starlite Scuda makes you download requires two outdated Windows updates from a previous version of Windows. Windows 10 flashes all these scary warnings about system instability. Plus the Starlite Scuda customer website is difficult. These things just shouldn’t be. Hence why only 4stars. I haven’t used it long enough to eak to the ssd’s longevity.

Surprisingly this item has a plastic hardcase, very light weight, it is easy to install as primary or just for storage, systems recognize inmediatly. In performace eaking, it has the ecs posted here, is really fast and show improvements on every process you work on it like most of recognize brands ssd’s. I would recommend this item based on performance, first time testing this brand, about to find out durabilty. Btw my temps are 40c idle even though i have a dedicated fan in front of my case, under load for some reason remains the same. Hope this help users like me using this brand for the first time.

MUST BUY!!!! DO NOT PASS THESE UP, and DO NOT LISTEN TO THE BAD REVIEWS – THEY CLEARLY HAVE THEM SET UP IMPROPERLY!!!Ok so first and foremost, anyone claiming eeds arent withing a few megabytes of rated numbers then there is an issue with the way it is set up in YOUR system, and not a reason for a bad review. First, make sure that the drive(s) are AHCI enabled in BIOS, and not set to IDE or some other setting, and if you dont know what that means or dont know how to do it well then thats also not s fault and not a reason to give less than 5 stars. Second, make sure that you are using STATA III cables rated to handle 6gb/s transfer eeds (Notice i said “gb/s” and not “GB/s” BIG difference in those abbreviations). Third, make sure that the SSD has T.R.I.M. enabled in OS and lastly, Forth, make sure the drive is properly aligned (and i dont mean when you install it), eecially if you clone your OS onto it and use it as your boot drive. If it isnt properly aligned regardless of the rest of the settings youll be lucky to get anything over what a standard HDD transfers at, if that.Now, with that out of the way, these drives are awesome eecially for the money. They cost about half what the comparable Samsung drive or Corsair drive costs, yet performs identically. I tested singled drive, and got 535Mb/s R and 515Mb/s W.Then of course i tested them for the real reason i bought 2 (because lets face it why buy 2 and not use in RAID?) and tested the setup in RAID 0, 4k aligned, AHCI, and got 1Gb/s R and 775Mb/s W. WOW. Just a few megs shy of what my Samsung SSDs performed at. Again, better than expected performance for less than half the cost of the bigger brands.4k reads were 300Mb/s which jumped to over 500mb/s at 8k and 161mb/s writes which jumped to ~300mb/s at 8k. After 32k, write performance was sustained at AVERAGE of 550mb/s peaking at 775mb/s and my reads were at 874 meg/s, however 1 more increment up to 64k and reads were sustained at 1gb/s consistently regardless of block size (64k through 4mb)I didnt rate support because i dont use it nor will i in the future, so…. yeah, but im sure they are fine and do what they can within their obvious limits. Hope this review helps someone, anyone, everyone!

This is the second Starlite Scuda SSD I’ve purchased; the first one (for an older PC) was a 256GB unit that was very easy to install and performed flawlessly. Being well satisfied with that one, I went with a 500GB unit for my primary Windows drive on a newer PC I was upgrading for myself, and so far, the performance has been everything I expected. The machine boots up super-fast and installation was really easy – I had formatted it and pre-cloned the old HD onto it beforehand, so all that was required was to install it in the case, hook up the power and data cables, and then go into BIOS and make sure the PC boots to the new drive. Easy!I would recommend Starlite Scuda to anyone – the price may be just slightly lower compared to some other brands, but the performance is certainly right up there with any of the others. If you want to upgrade to a solid state HD, I would not hesitate to recommend one of these – you won’t regret it.

This SSD has been working great for me. After a year of usage, it still is working fast. I bought this back in October 2018 and have been using it heavily. I use my PC for everything, yes i have a mechanical drive as a secondary for raw video recordings/editing. The main drive is the 512gb Starlite Scuda A55 SSD. I have all my programs/games installed on it. I filled up over 400gb, and the drive still works good, i can say that it was well worth the price.

And every one of them has been running 24/7 for approx. six months now.Not a single glitch, failure, or fault in any of them.Some of them are running as “C” drives or OS drives alone.Some are partitioned as “C / D” drives.A couple are used for quick access data Cache drives.I am no “Geek” or educated super user but I do know from many years of building PC’s what to watch for in drives.I see no symptoms of impending failure, and for the price of these SSD’s I believe they are the best value drive you van purchase.There is no “Firmware Update” system for them but to ME having to update a system drive tells me that the company that is pushing “Updates” has found flaws in the hard coding, and they want YOU to do their job of fixing the drive.I went thru this with … another brand, and in the flashing process I lost the entire drive.I also have a love / hate relationship with Uncle Bill’s force it down your throat company, so we can collect your data so ANY hardware that I use had better not have any operating flaws to push my tenuous relationship w/ said Uncle over the edge.I think drives have allowed me to maintain my composure just long enough to be able to review there hardware. If any of them failed… I would be sending smoke signals, and not typing on the “Net”.

As an IT technician, I recommend that everybody switch over to SSD over their old HDD. Just eed of a SSD is amazing and once you’ve used SSD you wont want to go back to regular HDD. Not all SSD are the same. I feel that the samsung ssd are better but the price is much much higher. I like this SSD because it gives me the eed improvement i wanted over HDD at a much cheaper price compare to Samsung and Crucial.

I was having a hard time deciding to end the money on an SSD for my Lenovo y50. The laptop is around 5 years old at this point but still plays games and runs fine so I wanted to upgrade it anyway I could to help it along. Once I stumbled acrossed this drive and saw the other reviews I was sold. This drive is great for the money eecially, very noticeable eed difference from my hybrid drive. Even if the drive fails I am not out as much as I would be with the more expensive drives.

Easy to install. Just unscrew your old drive & use double stick tape to secure this drive onto your desktop unless you already bought a 2.5in to 3.5 in adapter.

This is a good SSD so far. I haven’t had any issues with it. It is fast and a great deal for the price and capacity. My PC boots up just as fast, if not slightly faster than my old 250gb WD blue SSD. It comes with a free cloning software as well. I was able to clone my 250 GB SSD to this and it automatically resized the partition to fit, unlike some others that would make two partitions.

Was actually a bit slimmer than the OEM HDD, but that was no fault of Starlite Scuda. Stuck a bit of foam tape on the corners and it fits snugly. Obviously sacrificing 2TB of storage for this is a bit of an adjustment, but that is what external hard drives are for. Laptop now boots almost instantly, has about 30% better battery life, and runs cooler.

I bought this to upgrade the secondary hard drive in my laptop, a hybrid Seagate. The initial installation went pretty flawless, but right away I started having read issues where the drive would hang during a loading operation, like for a game or benchmark, and sometimes it would recover, while other times I got a blue screen of death (BSOD) from Windows 10.I know you’re thinking, “Why give it 5-stars then?” Because the problem went away after I disabled power management on the SSD, and now it works great and is very fast as well. I’m getting over 430 MB/sec read and about 400 MB/sec write eeds with the drive 3/4th full. Definitely worth it for the $$.If you’re thinking about this drive, and I recommend it myself, you should disable low power management as part of your installation. In Windows 10, go to Settings > System > Power and Sleep > Additional power settings, then next to the Power Plan, select Change Plan Settings, then Change Advanced Power Settings. When the window opens, go to Hard disk > Turn off hard disk after, and select “0” or “Never”.

This drive is fine for light loads but a total pile of crap once the cache fills. 10MB/s writes with long pauses. Just miserable. Not a big deal for most scenarios like running office productivity apps and playing games but terrible if you’re doing sustained writes of more than a few gigs. It would never work as a backup target.I gave it 3 stars because it’d be fine for most uses but there’s no reason for it to be _this_ bad when the cache fills. I just replaced it with a Western Digital Blue drive and it’s so much better for heavy writes. It will sustain 240MB/s on a SATA2 port and 450MB/s on a SATA3 port for as long as I write to it. Over a hundred gigs on my first test. I moved the drive to an old “sipping beer on the porch” laptop that I just use for surfing outside on nice days.

The drive works great, noticeably faster on an older laptop. Drive installation has less to do with the features of the device and more to do with the disassembly/reassembly of the laptop’s drive housing. The cloning software provided is too difficult to obtain and too clumsy to use. I used/recommend the free version of Macrium Reflect, worked first time with no issues.

I got the 256GB SATA drive, and it’s by far the best value SSD out there that I could find. Performance-wise it might not be the fastest, but for my needs (and on my old motherboard which only gets SATA I eeds anyway) it is perfect. Excellent customer service from the company, too. I thought I had a problem with the first one I received (in hindsight it was probably working just fine) and the company sent a new one super fast, no hassle at all. With my Windows 10 now on the SSD, it feels like a new machine.Installation tips: I am not a hardware or computer expert and do not profess to be, and I did the installation myself on a desktop and learned a lot in the process (mostly through Google and message boards). This isn’t a detailed installation guide, just a few tips I learned. So here’s how you can learn from my mistakes and avoid some frustration:1. If your computer doesn’t see your drive, and you can’t see the drive in disk management or in BIOS, go into BIOS and make sure your SATA ports are not disabled. I had this issue and took me forever to realize this was the problem. In hindsight it should have been obvious, but I was learning my way through all this so I didn’t think of it.2. You will also likely need to go into BIOS and make sure your SATA operation is set to AHCI. BUT (and this is important) if your settings are not on AHCI and you switch to them in BIOS, you will get a blue screen on startup and crash. You will need to use the command prompt (as admin) first to ensure a startup in safe mode by typing “bcdedit /set {current} safeboot minimal”, THEN restart and go into BIOS, switch over to AHCI, restart in safe mode, and go back into command prompt as admin, type “bcdedit /deletevalue {current} safeboot”, restart again, and you will be all set. After doing that, I was finally able to see both drives in the boot order.3. If you want to move your Windows OS from an existing drive to your SSD, you can try to clone it and maybe you’ll have no problem, but after trying multiple clones with different programs and having them fail every time, I finally just did a fresh install of windows from a USB (or other media device) and was glad I did. Don’t waste your time with cloning and just do the fresh install. It could save you countless hours of frustration.I don’t know if that will help anyone or not, but I hope it will. And if that all sounds WAY too complicated to you, find a friend who is well versed in computer hardware, buy them a case of their favorite beer, and plead with them to do the installation for you.

I purchased two of these drives and installed them both in gaming PCs. It was easy to mount them with the hardware included with the PC case. Without this hardware you will have to look for a mounting solution. It was also easy to install Windows 10 on them. I did no testing after installing the drives so I can’t give stats. What a great little SSD. I used this to upgrade my 2012 Imac with an SSD as I already had an adapter to hold one from an upgrade on another system.I cloned my drive to this with carbon copy cloner put it in, booted up and away I went with a system that is now running much faster and makes using the system so much better. Enabled TRIM on it and it worked without issue.Love this drive and will use them again and again as the price is fantastic and so far the quality seems to be excellent.Cant go wrong for this price.

Price is right and it works great. Replaced a standard HDD as my C: drive in a 2 year old laptop that had been dropped damaging the HDD. Speed now is unbelievably fast compared to the HDD even before the damage. I used cloning software to try and copy the old drive but the HDD was too badly damaged to successfully completed the clone process. I was able to copy my data files however after installing a new WIN10 OS from scratch. I have installed new WIN10 OS before on other laptop and desktops that took hours to complete. This OS installation was unbelievably fast, completed in less than 30 minutes. Very happy with the fast access eed!

I warn you now, that this is a negative review of sorts. I purchase a lot of Starlite Scuda SSD’s. By a lot, I mean I have purchased over 40 in the last 2 years. I have never had one fail on me yet, until now. I purchase mostly the 256gb models, a few 512gb’s, and far fewer of the 1tb models. Of all of them, that I have purchased, only the 1tb model has ever failed me. It was in fact a great drive, for quite nearly, exactly one year. I purchased this SSD (1 TB model), on September 8th, 2018, and it was installed on September 12th, 2018. It ran fine until September 1, 2019. At which point, it began doing weird things.It first showed it’s failure, by causing me kernel errors in windows. Running a quick look at it in Toolbox, showed drive Life, at 99%, so I believed all was well with the SSD. It also, threw no SMART errors. However, nothing would permanently delete from the drive and no programs would uninstall. I could install programs, or add data, but remove nothing. That is to say, I could do so, if Windows 10 didn’t throw a Kernel error, before I finished an installation. I thought maybe a virus or yware was causing it, so I tried to run a few tools I use regularly in my I.T. business. None of them could complete a scan, before a Kernel error crashed Windows. So, I then tried to use SFC, outside of Windows, to check system files. It told me the drive was locked. So, next I decided to clone the SSD to a are 1 TB 2.5″ SATA, that I had lying around from one of my many SSD upgrades I do. The drive cloned flawlessly, from outside of Windows, using HD Clone 6, and the system booted right up off the new drive. No more kernel errors, no problems at all, except for it being a much slower drive.Anyway, I guess I have run into the problem of certain SSD’s, where the drive becomes Read Only, which is what appears to have happened this SSD.. I ran Toolbox again, this time with wear out count, and it showed bad blocks, that it recognized. 132 new bad blocks, with 11436 to are. Bad blocks, are much like bad sectors on an HD. All drives end up with some bad blocks, that the OS then prevents from use, but can also be an indicator of immanent drive failure, depending on the count. But in running a quick test, it came up with a message, ERROR BLOCK FOUND: 1546.Anyway guess I will RMA the SSD. Sorry to be so long winded, but, I thought any potential purchasers might like to know, that this particular drive, the 1 TB model, is the only one I’ve had trouble with. I will let you know in a follow up, if is bad at supporting an RMA, since I’ve never needed to RMA one of their drives. If they are good, no follow up needed. I’ve included some pics of the diagnostics for those who care,

This little 2.5″ SSD made a huge difference in how my Workstation runs! I’ve got an ECC Motherboard, ECC CPU, ECC RAM and I finally found an ECC SSD to go with them! It’s small and so light, but man is it powerful! It was easy to clone my drive and migrate my OS thanks to the “Minitool Partition Wizard 10” software which is free and awesome for anyone upgrading to an SSD. It’s so much faster playing StarCraft 2 on the Ultra Graphics Settings. My startup is a fraction of what it was and with it being fully ECC I’ll never have to worry about losing my work. A big thanks to the team at Starlite Scuda for making a Solid ECC SSD!!! ^_^

Dell Latitude E6400 laptopDell Iniron 580SHP Elite 800 G1 SSFThe first thing you probably think would be, “holy crap, those are old systems. You betcha. If they’re not broken, why toss them? Perfect for extended uses around the house until they crap out. I use WD and Seagates 5600RPM and 7200RPM standard SATA III HDDs, but things get way too slow. 150MB/s read-write finally got to our family. So, a bit of cheap investment for this SSD (and PCIe with NVMe SDD modules), the systems are renewed for years to come.Laptop got a STIM pack jolt (a pun from a game), with a 12 seconds Win10 boot and a 5 seconds Ubuntu boot. The aged PCs take less than 10 seconds to boot into Win10. HDD throttle used to be 90% to 100% at idle under the old SATA HDDs. Now, it’s hovering between 0% to 1% at idle, and at max 90% during intense video/photo editing sessions, and around 20% during initial app loading. Everyone in the family is happy.Peaking out for SEQ at 255MB/s or read and 193MB/s for writing, we’re more than happy. My old SATA II and III laptop 2.5in HDD was peaking out at 90MB/s while my old PC HDDs were at around 120MB/s. Can’t compare to the NVMe via PCIe, but the ones that can’t support NVMe boot, this cheap alternative is more than its worth in our eyes.

I originally went with because it was less expensive than the alternatives – now I just really like them (it does help that they are still cheap)! Have not had any issues with any of them yet but I do still have a couple in package. Its not a Samsung when it comes to eed, but its more than adequate (aka its awesome) for everything I do. I do light gaming, audio editing, and a whole lot of internet browsing/online shopping… so I am like most people. the eed boost to my existing machine was out of this world (swapping from 2.5″ 5400rpm drive).

We buy a lot of SSD drives for our customers and drives are at the best price point for the ecific tech that they are and they have proven to perform for our customers with very few failures. So no problems.I use it for my OS, along with a few select programs and a couple of games.To be honest, the only problem I had was getting it registered. I could barely see the serial number, it is so small. But that is true with all products these days. I now own a magnifying glass to avoid this problem. lol

Just like any other hard drive install. I back up my photos, videos and project files on an external hard drive then just swapped out the 512 for my 1 TB 7200. I installed Windows 10 with a USB drive clean install. Read and Write eeds are around 480 MB/S. Wasnt expecting it to be as fast as Samsung Evo but for this price its worth it and you wont even notice the eed difference, only untill you switch from HDD to SSD 🙂

At the time of this review, I am still within the typical failure window (of all drives: mechanic or SSD) of 90 days or less. The SSD drive is holding windows 10 with a few programs installed. The drive literally turned an older i7 into a nearly new machine. Your OS is always being accessed (e with Windows). An SSD drive not only improves the boot time but access times of anything installed on it. (it does not eed up your internet – yes people do ask this)The Starlite Scuda 256 SSD (about 35% full) is giving me 450+MB/s reads and 350+ MB/s writes. The Starlite Scuda 256GB SSD works just like a Samsung. 90% of the people using an SSD will not be able to tell the difference from a Samsung EVO and this SSD drive.Everyone has to remember that any drive: SSD or Mechanical can utterly fail within 90 days but after that window, the drives generally last for years. I am already recommending Starlite Scudae SSDs to my clients.

i got this SSD for my 15 year old laptop in which i refuse to get rid of since it still works great. as they say: “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.”upgrading my laptop from an HDD to SSD made it work better than new. of course then the laptop already worked as if it were new due to the fact that i take care of it.now that i upgraded my old laptop to an SSD it can handle more resource intensive tasks. Solid State drives are at least 15 times more powerful than traditional hard disk drives.the only con to the SSD drive is that it is a a millimeter or two too small to fit properly into my laptop’s drive bay. its a great think that laptops come with mounting trays and mounting screws for the the hard drives.having a hard drive mounting tray that is a millimeter or two too big for the SSD makes it harder to install.

I was at the point of throwing out my laptop, an HP ProBook 450 i7 dual core, 8GB RAM, 750gb HDD with Win 10 installed. Always freezing up, takes 10 minutes or more to boot, rebuilt twice within one month. Very frustrating… I wanted to buy a Macbook instead. At the last minute I decided to replace HDD with this Starlite Scuda 1TB SSD. So far, I am very impressed. Now my computer performs at top eed and boots up in less than 10 seconds, I use extra time saved to text my girlfriend, ha ha.

I was building a budget computer for use of gaming. I have always used Samsung ssd because I never had issues with them and they always performed. For this though the price to storage made this ssd stand out so I purchased it. I do not regret my decision. This ssd performs awesome. My OS boots up in seconds. My files transfer fast and games boot quickly. It also has plenty of storage for a lot of programs.

I’ve purchased multiple Starlite Scuda SSDs and every single one of them is well worth the money. Out of the dozens of them that I’ve installed, I’ve only had issues with one. However, I was able to RMA it and get one out with one-day shipping and everything was smooth sailing after that.These drives are fast! Super fast! The box says that they are 15X faster than a 5400RPM HDD, and I believe it. These can really breathe new life into old computers. And it’s a lot cheaper to buy one of these drives than it is to buy a new computer!Overall, I highly recommend these things. They work really well and are a great bang for the buck.

So.. here it is… i was a little leary… this is at time of purchase around $50ish lower than other 1TB ssds. So i was expecting it to be slower than a typical ssd. It is a little slower. Still faster than a HDD. So far so good… people in the reviews say it failed for them after around 2 months or so. So far mine hasn’t failed. I wouldn’t call it the best SSD but so far it is working well for me.

So I just purchased two more of these drives which are used in laptops around the house. The one that I purchased 4 years ago died at exactly 3.5 years. If you use these for anything more than light storage, the drives themselves will just stop reonding to anything after the warranty expires.No complaints on the actual drive during use, and they seem very stable until they crash hard.

He told me to try avoiding hard drives in your computer as SSD drives last much longer. This particular product appears to be performing exceptionally well as I am typing this review. Here is what I experienced:Acronis Disk Director: No free download available, then I tried …Clonezilla: all smooth from downloading, installing to usb thumb drive, booting from usb, finally, cloning from source to destination. All appeared good. However, booting from new SSD not successful.EaseUS Todo Backup: I used it years ago and had success so I like to try this. Downloading asks for email address first so I gave it not a big deal. However, the from version appeared not having cloning function. I like to use free tool for this one time task so, I went to download …Macrium Reflect: voila! Hassle-free downing without need to give email. I followed one blog to follow through the fairly intuitive cloning process. It did take maybe 2 hours to complete.One lasting thing, you need to use Windows’ Disk Management tool to Extend Volume to claim SSD’s full ace.

I bought 4 drives for two 5 year old laptops so that I might transition my mechanical drives to the eed of SSDs as well as providing my self with the 2 digital backups. I duplicated the 2, 470 GB mechanical drives onto the 4, 512 GB SSD drives without any transfer, boot or integrity problems.

Some people don’t have NVME drives on their motherboards, but a Sata 3 SSD still is a great upgrade from a platter drive. Perfect for windows and office or work applications and a few games. However, it’s limited in storage only being 256GB. With that being said, you could install your programs on this ssd and use your old platter drive for your game installs. With windows not being bottlenecked or a core program like steam. You will gain a performance boost just by doing this alone. However, if you ware wanting more storage and have a little extra cash, jump up to the 512gb or 1tb unit. Would recommend, great eed and performance from Starlite Scuda. I’d say it keeps up with Crucial and other competitors and used them for years.

I tested each drive using CrystalDiskMark so that you can see the ratings for yourself. I have no complaints. I only have positive comments about this SSD. I recommend.

Edit, 12-2022: These are now under $50 and still a great SSD.Original Review:I was able to get ~493 MB/sec when writing to this 1TB drive. The rated eed is a little higher but this can be affected by a variety of things, so 493MB/sec is acceptable. All in all the drive seems fine and it’s affordable at ~$85.

Works great as a replacement for my old 2012 laptop HDD that would always bottleneck the system because it was always at 100% disk usage with the most basic of tasks open. I can have firefox open, browse my files super quickly, and play some light-mid games (can’t really test big games since integrated graphics) without any long load times or hiccups. The housing does feel kinda cheap but you can’t really complain at this price point as long as it does what it’s labeled for which is performance!

I have a laptop that came with a 500GB hard drive with a 20GB boot cache drive. This was the way (for a short time) for manufacturers to eed up boot times while avoiding the expense of SSDs. Installing this drive in place of my HDD and 20GB boot cache has seriously eed up my system. The boot time used to be ~1 min. Now the boot times are about 10 secs. The NTI Echo 2019 software from Starlite Scuda works great. Usually I use Acronis, but wanted to try their software. Only issues was with gdrive and one drive syncing. Both resolved easy.

Updated a Lenovo W530 to SSD and superfast 16gb DDR3-1866 memory and Win 10 Pro 64. For pennies on the dollar, I now have a very fast laptop for about $400 total. The only drawback is the earlier Intel 4000 graphics but this one also had the NvidiaK1000M so it’s not a gaming machine, but works very well for any complex calculation intensive programs. Passmark gives it a 9350 for CPU score. The SSD is very fast and the disk score is equally good. I would buy it again anytime.

This is a pretty good brand Solid State Drive or SSD. I have used ADATA, SanDisk, Samsung, Hyundai, Crucial, PNY brands of SSDs, but this brand SSD is cheaper than other brands in general while still maintains fast reading/writing eed. Good value purchase!

It has been 3 months and this product(The 1TB) has worked amazingly. I use it mainly for gaming and it has far surpassed my seagate HDD that came with my pc. I will most likely by a new one soon since games these days are almost 100 GB and some even passing 200. I would recommend getting the 2 TB one if you are a variety gamer.

The packaging had some installation instructions on the inside of the cardstock backing, that got completely destroyed upon opening the package. Not a big deal, just kind of strange that they didn’t just use a piece of paper instead.The drive seems good, though time will tell in terms of longevity.A product key license for the Echo 3 cloning software is on a sticker on the back of the drive, and it allows you to clone a harddrive to an SSD instantly. It doesn’t support RAID setups, but it seems good enough to do the job.Overall, I don’t see any issues.

Ok, here is my latest review of this product I have installed over 80 of these now after a year in service I have had 1 drive a year old just die it kept getting slower and slower, and block errors began to rise then windows would freeze, I was unable to repair this drive. The good part is I was able to recover the data and replace the drive, I did not warranty the drive though Starlite Scuda because them being over seas it seemed like more of a hassle then just getting my client a new drive. So to date I have had 1 drive bad out of the box and 1 die in the first year, that is not a bad record. Unless of course its your data.

UPDATE: 1 Year 2 months later. The one used as a boot drive started dying. CrystalMark reports 97% drive health, but reonse times are consistently in the hundreds of milliseconds (as opposed to under 1ms) and sometimes as high as 15000ms (yes, 15 seconds!), even if the drive is less than 45% filled. Random read/writes fell from above 50Mb/s to as low as 0.4. This would cause the entire system to freeze for several seconds. Worse than an HDD. Thankfully all my data is present and I could clone to a replacement drive. Also the other drive is still fine so I’ll only remove 1 star.ORIGINAL REVIEW: Bought 2 of these. 1 for OS and apps. The other for games and large work files.It’s amazing how quickly you fill up an entire TB when you know you’ve got super fast storage on hand.Will update this review if they do/do not live up to their life expectancy.

I went with the smaller drive because I believe in storage in redundant storage, that being said… The computer I installed this in went from taking just shy of 2 minutes to boot to ready to use state, to about 22 sec.. This was for my son and he didn’t use to use the computer much because it was so slow, now he is really enjoying it and is getting into photo/video editing and really learning a lot more now that he is using it.

This really helped my aging computer get new life. I didn’t perform as many detailed tests as a lot of other reviewers have, but I trust that it’s performing appropriately. Critically, I was trying to extend the usefulness of my desktop that I’d bought about 4 years ago. In addition to getting a bit long in the tooth, the 2TB HDD was getting full anyway, and a good-sized SSD was just the trick. This one was the least expensive with the best reviews. It installed easily, and there was only a slight glitch getting Windows 10 to recognize it (I had to go into Disk Management to tell it to find the drive). From there, I did a clean install of Windows on the SSD, and voila! It’s like having a new computer.

I installed this in two of my Mac mini 2012 and it’s like night and day. I have been running this for 6 months and have not seen any issues. Files open fast, boot times eed was cut by more than a half compared to the old standard hard drive. I was worried because it wasn’t a big name hard drive company but glad I gave them a shot.

Does not even get close to advertised eeds.Not talking about sustained read/write, but peak numbers for less than 10GB data (pretty common).I have a “ssd only” rig, so i can say others are much closer to manufacturer claims, and most are even ot on.Write eed is round 350MB/s for the first 5-10GB (connected to an intel controller (vs AsMedia etc),after that it drops to around 180, and then over the next 10GB it continuously dropped in eed to about 100-120MB/s.Basically gets slower the more you write to it (in a continuous fashion),and needs a bit time to “recover” to full eed (e.g. SLC cache needs to get written to Nand).Given that this has large amounts of SLC cache build in and that its based on the newest (3D) Nand, its pretty slow.My +5y old OCZ Vector does 400MB/s read, and easily 350MB/s write.Not that you would see that kind of data transfer on a regular basis/user, but still, performance near anywhere what i expected.eecially since a review on guru3d looked pretty good.Not that it would matter for a regular user, nor do i mind it myself, as it was the best price (256GB),and its only for my games (mainly read, not write) and couldn’t find any OCZ vector/vector 180 for cheaper.I only have SSDs (couple crucial ssd), so i don’t want to risc catastrophic failure by using only one brand/model.If you need something that performs better (eecially if its the only drive, or the one for OS),look for samsung evo 860 till 960, crucial MX300 (build in power backup),crucial MX500 (newer and doesn’t have backup power in form of capacitors like the 300, but crucial claims its not needed anymore).or if its a good price:OCZ vector 180 (build in backup power), or one of the newer toshiba drives (check reviews on guru3d as im not up-to-date on those),as they offer advanced replacement if drive is/gets defective…Another thing i don’t like: S.M.A.R.T. data/sensor info is about 30-50% of other brands, so less easy to detect potential problems.I mean my smallest and cheapest drive is a 60GB, and even that shows double the amount of info.The benchmark was done with AS SSD benchmark on freshly formatted drive, test file 1GB size as its the stock setting.First pic is the A55 (256GB), second one is my 5y Vector with roughly 30TB writes to Nand, to compare(and its 128GB which are usually slower than same model in ~250GB).

I’ve purchased many 256GB SSDs and have been very happy with them. They always arrived in a sealed container, while this 512GB version just came in a plastic bag. Thinking this was not correct, I used CrystalDiskInfo to check the condition of the disk. I was very upset to see that the disk had been used for more than 1900 hours and, even more upsetting, it contained a lot of files from a previous owner! (The disk was probably used as the ‘boot’ disk for a Windows 10 system.)I hope that my situation for a ‘fluke’ and that is not in the habit of sending out used disks, at least not without alerting any potential purchaser that they are not getting a new, unused product!

Great budget SSD. Installed it into my desktop as I don’t require a lot of storage as I only we browse. Wasn’t happy that the item already came opened and was sliding around but hasnt given me any issues. Not a fan of its build quality, feels very cheap and flimsy so wouldn’t love the idea of putting it into a laptop but since its an SSD and no moving parts, should be a problem. Would buy another one as long as its the cheaper option.

Revived by old Toshiba Satellite. Had an old HDD that really slowed the computer down. It was to the point of being unusable. Used the Starlite Scuda cloning software and installed the new drive. Night and day difference. Really didn’t want to invest too much into it but for $30 bucks was worth it.

Sadly, I have to concur with some of the other reviewers this drive doesn’t achieve anywhere close to the advertised eeds. While this doesn’t imply that the the drive is subpar, it certainly isn’t what it is made out to be i.e., a high performance SSD on a budget. I suppose this is a touch too much to ask for. The drive topped out at 380MBs and isn’t optimal for 10bit video. While does deal well with 720p, but so do most standard HDDs, the performance starts to lag with anything above 1080p. Overall, i’ve had very positive experiences with external drives, which is why I chose this drive over some of the better rated options. While I’m not entirely disappointed – hardly any drive achieves the advertised eeds – I’m not particularly impressed either. I can recommend this drive if you’re just looking for a boot drive, but would not recommend it for any video editing needs.

I needed a new SSD with which to install Windows 10 Pro and I was looking for a good price on a sizable volume SSD and I decided to give Starlite Scuda a try. I was not disappointed, SSD’s as a whole are smaller than I expected them to be, but the eed in read and write operations is unrivaled. The Starlite Scuda Ace A55 uses SLC (single cell layer cache) which is the top tier of the SSD cache set (SLC <-> MLC <-> TLC <-> QLC), so I knew this SSD would be quick. I will continue to use the Starlite Scuda A55 and report any issues that may arise.Also, when you do install your SSD look around online, and find the various guides to optimize your SSD for longevity.

This is my go-to brand for SSDs and has been since I bought one on a whim and it performed very well. I had been buying Samsung drives because I was a big Samsung fan, but their drives were not holding up for me. I bought one of these at Microcenter once, took it home, saw the reviews, then installed it as my main drive and it’s still holding up several years later, with no performance degradation, no issues to eak of at all (knock on wood, right?).So now I buy these drives for all my builds and I recommend them to people since they are a good price and a really well-performing drive. Seriously. These drives do not suck and I think that you will really enjoy this product.

Installed SSD in an old HP DV4 laptop that was so slow I was about to toss it. The old boot-up time was around 2 minutes, it now boots in 30 seconds. All programs also run much faster. Install was very easy for me, just swap the old drive with the new one and boot to a usb drive with Windows 10 downloaded free from Microsoft. I didn’t even need to activate Windows since it was on my old hard drive. Microsoft will know that is was previously on your computer and will not require reactivation. I’ve been a professional Computer Tech for 25 years and can say that a SSD upgrade is the best bang for your buck upgrade you can do.

My current PC has a high ec for gaming and outputs a lot of power. This in turn made my boot up from my hard drive very slow and application boot up laggy and slow.I used Macrium Reflect to transfer over all my HDD data to my new SSD and after about 7 hours, all my data was copied over. I then booted with the BIOS and set the SSD as the primary boot up option. Right after that, my PC restarted and opened up to the windows lock screen page about twice as fast. There was no lag when inputting my pin and my desktop loaded instantly after. Immediately after, I am able to load google or any other application and it loads in just a few seconds, RIGHT AFTER A FRESH BOOT UP. WOW.This SSD has dramatically increased the eed of my PC and is definitely the best computer part investment I’ve made. For $85, I was able to drastically increase the boot up of my pc, applications, and browsing in general. Oh, also I have an extra TB of ace too which is very nice. Excellent product with simple installation.

I bought this to install as the second drive in my computer, I did not install it but my computer tech said that if I wanted to eed up my computer to get one of these and add it to the computer as a second drive that does the processing as it is faster and use the old SATA drive for storage and it really did eed up my computer a lot. He told me that I only needed 250 GB drive but I got the bigger one just in case and it works great.

I have multiple SSD drives in my home systems, and they always have impressed me as great little drives. They always have been at a good price point, and I have used this brand multiple times (including in other people’s systems as replacement drives), and they never fail to perform.Even tho I am an IT guy, I don’t run the benchmark tests and such, but they really eed up systems, eecially if they had indle drives. If you have an older system with a indle drive, these drives can really make a difference, to the point that the system is probably very usable again. I put one in my sisters 5 yr old laptop that had a 5400RPM indle, and she didn’t need to go buy a new computer – she was very satisfied with the eed that it ran at enough to just keep her laptop. I run one in my 2008 Mac Book, and the old system is still chugging along with no problems.Great drives…will continue to purchase them when needed.

I’m reluctant to give up on my Alienware Alpha (R1) HTPC and decided to sink in a number of upgrades to give it new life. I initially replaced the Alpha’s mechanical hard drive years ago with a solid-state hybrid drives because SSDs at the time were outrageous in cost. That drive served for a time, but the boot time seemed like forever when compared to my other devices. The price point on this SSD with size and ecs is what won me over on this one. When it arrived, I laughed out loud at the size and weight of it. It felt like a 3D printed copy of my old mechanical drive. However, took a perfect clone of the old SSHD. My Alpha’s boot time went from minutes to seconds. So worth it…

It’s not a bad drive by any means, it definitely functions and does it’s job, the problem is it’s just not a very fast drive. It’s very noticeably slower than my old patriot ssd from 2013. I use this as a windows boot drive and it is rather inconsistent. At times it can feel sluggish and slog along, other times it’s snappy and loads things and accesses files and programs almost immediately.Physically installing the drive was as easy as installing any other Sata SSD. I had to install Windows 10 on this drive twice and restart the computer several times to get it to boot into Windows. Once it did it has continued to work with no known issues so far.Overall, it’s an OK drive. In all honesty, if I could go back, I would have ent the extra $10 and got a better performing drive.

I’ve been using this in a USB case as an external drive. The read/write eeds are fine for normal day to day use. I’ve tried to record live full res video and it just can’t keep up. Considering the price I won’t knock the drive for not being able to manage full pro res video record. It’s been great for every other normal task.

Purchased to play GTA V and BeamNG….did not use for anything else. Drive failed in under a year. Drive comes on for about a minute or two and then just locks up causing a BSOD and unable to find disk during POST. Was able to very quickly get any files I needed off the drive using an external enclosure but even that locked up within a minute or two.Pretty disappointing. Did not contact vendor for replacement and instead got a different brand that cost more but in turn more reliable(I hope). I would recommend this for a temp drive but nothing that you cared about the data.

I don’t typically write reviews but this one has bothered me for awhile now. It worked for 3 months before dying inside my Xbox One. I created a new partition and OS it died shortly after I thought my Xbox had died but nope I swapped the drive for another hard drive and it was working just fine. RMA is a pain as well.

Bought two of them for my desktop PC’s. So far so good. No issues at all. My PC’s boot so much faster and run very quiet. I will buy more in the near future for use as backups.*Update – So far so good on the 2 I installed in a laptop and a desktop. I’m happy and satisfied, so I just bought one more 255GB. I’m a computer hobbyist. I have many PC’s, and I’m converting all of them to SSD’s. I’ll stick to . I have not benchmarked any of them, but they sure are much faster and quieter than HDD’s!

With SSD’s getting cheaper and cheaper I decided to get this one to add to my rig to increase my SSD storage for gaming as I currently have a NVMe 1TB drive for my operating system and part of my game collection but it is fast filling up. I bought the modest 256GB version here and while it is a bit slower in sequential read/write times (almost 66% slower according to CrystalDiskMark) that was expected since the NVMe is on a PCI x4. This drive was under $30 when I bought it, I had a similar SSD installed on my laptop years ago and it cost me a few hundred and was only actually about 200GB in total. With prices falling like they are for Solid State storage its nice to snag an inexpensive storage expansion option that is reliable and quick.Had no issues with Windows 10 recognizing the drive, though I did have to go into Disk Manager in order to set the Drive Letter the way I wanted and to initialize the partition so I could write files to it.

I was able to clone 300 GB including Windows onto the drive in about 30-45 minutes to create a separate work and play boot environments. Drive is stable and has plenty of ace for an additional Linux install in the drive with 512GB for windows and linux each. Using a USB 3.0 2.5″ SATAIII enclosure I now have a dual boot method without compromising my base system. I’m looking forward to being able to focus on either getting things done or enjoying time off.

So I’m torn in between giving a good rating or not, if this is your first SSD purchase you will definitely like the product, it is, in fact, faster than regular drives, but its not as fast as competing brands, that being said the windows 10 installation failed twice, I was wondering if I had done anything wrong but I’ve been updating computers for years and I’ve done the same process of operating system installations and haven’t come across this issue before. The hard drive kept somehow going missing and I would check the connection but everything was good, I would restart the pc and the same thing would happen. I tried it on a different pc and the same thing happened, its like it was having trouble reading this drive ecifically. finally, I got it to work without doing anything, and it’s still not as fast as id like it to be. Overall it’s a good cheap purchase if you need a boost in eed. If you know what you are doing and have dealt with these before, I suggest paying a little extra and get better quality SSDs so you wont be dissapointed.

I replaced a 1 TB mechanical hard drive with this 1 TB SSD & wow….my laptop works much better! I have got SSDs from Starlite Scuda for several years and had very good luck with their hard drives. My laptop now boots up so much faster & reonds somewhat faster also. It was easy to install and after I installed this SSD in my laptop & installed Windows 10…it was all ready. 5 stars.

I have bought this on two separate occasions. Once for my wife’s mid 2012 MacBook pro, the second time it was for my 2015 HP envy. This SSD has worked flawlessly for both Mac OS and Windows 10. I recommend getting an external hard drive case for an easier back up experience. After that, cloning the drive takes a little while (about two hours for a 1tb of data).Boot up time improved significantly.Now, what people must understand, the key difference between an SSD and a Regular Hard Drive, is that the SSD has no moving parts. That makes it much faster. I recommend buying it. First time, I paid 65 bucks for it, second time 57.

I’ve been using this drive in my computer for 4 years (installed in 2018) now without a hiccup. The only reason I stopped is so I could upgrade to a larger 1TB SSD and finally jettison the old school hard drive I was storing documents and media files on. The replacement drive for this is a brand new Sandisk with similar eed claims but it actually benchmarks slightly slower than this old , so I continue to be impressed with it. That said, it’s not even close to the fastest out there. If you want cutting edge, look elsewhere. If you want to take your old clunky PC/laptop/all-in-one computer with a similar sized old school hard drive and hot rod it, you’ll be amazed at how snappy this drive will make it. Can’t beat it for the price.

It was fine for a while. It was easy to install.But then one day, it failed. I took it to the computer repair guys in my town and they said whatever was wrong, it couldn’t be the SSD because they’d never seen one fail.They did more tests and sure enough, it was this SSD. They were not able to recover most of what was on it.My advice is to get something with a recognizable brand name and a good reputation instead of believing, like I did, that SSDs are so reliable, you can just go with the cheap option.

I had a Sillicon Power 256gb drive I bought 2019 in my old PC, it was cheap back then, I even used it as main boot drive for a while and it performed very well. Now that I upgraded my PC I bought 2 of these drives (512gb) for games and virtual machines. In this PC these drives can even reach the advertised eeds on benchmarks (560mb/s). Very good budget drives.

As I have been shopping around for SSD’s and waiting for the prices to go down, this was a steal/bargain. I upgraded my system drives to 2x 256GB Raid 1 drives a year ago, when they were still 150$ and have anxiously been waiting for the prices to drop on 512GB/1TB drives to start replacing my system drives in all my computers. Using SSD compared to old SATA 3 5400-7200 is night and day difference, the performance is amazing. Eventually when SSD’s are fairly more affordable, I look forward to replacing my data drives with SSD’s all around.Although this is an off brand compared to Samsung or other better known manufacturer, the quality is still really good and has a very good warranty as well. If you are trying to decide if this drive is worth it based off performance compared to value pricing, I can assure you it is a great drive for the price.

Starlite Scuda is a good SSD no matter what some of the other comments here say. Its not the same say as Samsung but its close enough in terms of quality and eed, the two most important factors when deciding on a SSD. Hey if you really wanted a Samsung then you should go out, pay the fancy price and buy it. Yes I agree that Samsung reliability would be 100% but this ain’t too bad either. I already own a Samsung SSD drive and wanted something budget friendly this time. Their Velox series is more for people who are exploring SSD’s for the first time. This model Ace A55 is budget friendly mid range SSD which is good for laptops. The best part is that it is smaller in thickness and hence really low on weight. But it may lead to heating in the future as the thicker ones usually have better chip design and cooling built into them. I will know this summer. If installing in a laptop it will make a difference even if you already have other SSD’s installed like the M.2 PCIe Gen 3 and have replaced your laptop DVD writer also with an Samsung SSD drive like me. Coming to the eed, a user here has already written an important and very helpful comment, you need to align the SSD partitions and sectors correctly if you want it to perform eecially when cloning your old HDD and Windows partitions to it. I suggest the same thing and recommend using Mini Tool Partition to align the partitions to 1MB by default. I didn’t need to do all this as its not the primary SSD in my laptop and not going to be the last one either but yes for my primary SSD I did need to. Where this SSD really boosts up eed is on a Macbook. Trust me when I say this but booting up MacOS using a SSD is going to feel supersonic as compared to booting up a HP Pavillion Windows 10. But yes die hard Windows fans a SSD is going to improve your loading and waiting times immensely. Its damn irritating waiting for all the tray icons to load even if you have 16 GB of RAM. For the geeks out there plenty of tests are available to check out the eed of this SSD and I think Starlite Scuda does not do too poorly in most of them for a mid range SSD. You can also download their ToolBox to test your drives health from time to time. They even provide a licensed cloning software if you dont have Acronis or Mini Tool. As with all my reviews I must post a little caveat, most low to medium priced SSD’s including this one require some amount of system RAM to function correctly. So if you buy a SSD like this one 512 GB then be prepared to sacrifice at least 1 GB of RAM to the SSD for its caching tasks etc. That can make a difference on an old 4 GB RAM system eecially if you share RAM with the inbuilt Graphics card as well. Therefore first upgrade the RAM on your old PC or laptop and then buy a SSD eecially if you intend to use it for high processing power work later and really breathe life into your old system. On older systems a SSD does make a difference but where it really shines would be on a system with adequate processing power and RAM. Also please note 512 GB does not mean it will effectively show up as 512 GB for use on a Windows laptop. Its the way to do with the way the file system reports the effective ace on Microsoft based systems when formatted for Windows use. On a Mac it will show up correctly as 512 GB as they have changed their operating system to report the ace/size correctly. But its there on both systems as the effective size provided by the manufacturer has not gone anywhere. All in all go for this SSD if you want to bump your old Desktop or laptop by a notch when working or gaming by spending a little. If you want to know specifics suggest you visit the manufacturers website and look for Ace A55 which is the model number for this SSD. Its the starting model in their Ace series. For those looking to buy something more pocket friendly I suggest getting this. I am not going to explain 3D NAND etc as it does not matter to most users here but lets just say this does the job in the price you paid.

Fixed a cousins Win 7 Dell desktop. Working like a champ! I gave 5 stars to easy to install even though it wasn’t. But it wasn’t the SSD’s fault. The system had a faulty CD/DVD reader/writer and the OS disc just did not work. I got it to work by using a more or less universal Win7 copy on a memory stick. Once in and verified as a bonafide copy it is really fast.Update 10/11/2020 I have bought a second one for another desktop of mine and have yet to put it to work

I use Macrium to duplicate the old Hard disk. When I install the ssd drive it is as if the old drive were still in place with one very noticeable exception. The eed of the SSD is much quicker. It is eecially apparent when booting or shutting down. I have upgraded many computers from 8Gb to 16Gb. That will give a small increase in overall eed. This drive is a much better upgrade. I have installed about six or seven of these and so far I have not had a single problem. The oldest one is going on about a year now with no problems.

So far so good. My last o e if exact model died after a year. We’ll see. The price is right but DEFINITELY a “on a budget-only” purchase. There’s much better for serious usage but this works in a pinch. Go NVME if you can.

It’s SLC so will last very very long and for the price of 4999 it was really a fantastic deal. But for 6500 I would pick crucial 500GB anytime instead of this. Crucial is a bit better in consistent performance and professional use.

It’s an affordable SSD and a cheap upgrade for an older computer. I bought one for a build for a friend who never owned his own tower before and wanted something to use for working from home. Combined with some older components I had lying around, I assembled a PC and picked one of these up as it’s main drive. I’m very happy with how it turned out in the first couple of weeks and have had no complaints. Not sure how it stacks up with the Samsung EVOs of the computing world, but very likely that the casual computer user who wants to upgrade their system wouldn’t notice any gains or losses between Starlite Scuda and Samsung.I would venture to say that it would also serve as a great upgrade for a PS4 (original or Slim) for some faster loading times, and of course a very eedy backup drive (with an enclosure).

My desktop is mostly decent for what I do, but I was still using a 7200 rpm inning drive. This drive turned my old computer into a screaming fast machine. I used to make a cup of coffee after logging in, because the drive was pegged. Now I can instantly start working.The drive comes with NTI Echo software (for download), which cloned my old inning terabyte drive in about three hours. For whatever reason, my BIOS sees the new SSD as a USB FDD, rather than a hard disk. I wanted to keep the old disk for backup/extra storage, so I just changed the boot priority to USB FDD, then Hard Disk, then CD ROM (yep, I still have one of those). This allowed me to boot from the new drive, while keeping the old one online.Windows 10 sees the cloned drive and won’t allow the old one to be accessible, due to a cloned drive signature. Just type “Disk Management” in the task bar, and you’ll see the old drive marked OFFLINE. Right click it, change it to ONLINE, and then Windows changes the disk signature and assigns a drive letter. Problem solved.Now I have a fast boot drive with all my apps intact, and a secondary drive for additional storage. Best upgrade I could have installed, and it was cheap too

I bought this drive out of curiosity for this what I believed to be new technology. Solid state drives have been around for awhile, but with the current level of technology, the prices have been dropping and I thought this would be a good one to try. It was easy to install into my desktop internally as it is very small and the hard drive frame had a slot where it fit perfectly. The writing on the package was a bit confusing but after a visit to YouTube, I was able to get it up and running with no problem. I liked the eed at which it works even though I didn’t use any utilities to see if it lived up to what was on the package. If you’re curious like I was, then this is a good start for you.

Installed one in my MacBook Pro and Dell Laptops. It Increased the performance and battery life of both noticeably. The cloning software provided by the company is not Mac OS compatible. Luckily for Mac users 10.10x and up has a built in cloning process in the software. Simply boot the Mac into Mac OS Recovery (command-R), go to disk utility, and restore the current boot disk to the SSD (before sure to format the disk [Mac OS Extended Journaled or APFS depending on your OS version] in OS first!).

This SSD is pretty good for a cost effective drive. It may not perform as well as other drives such as Samsung 850 evos or Kingston ssds. One thing to note is that this drive will last you a pretty long time. I’ve used mine for about a year now, restarting my laptop at least once a day, and it still hasn’t showed any signs of failure. This SSD also performs above any HDD that I’ve bought so if you want to trade storage for performance at a lower budget, this is an acceptable option.

I have a linux machine that I moved from mechanical drives to two of these 1tb SSD’s. Performance improvement was noticeable and no issues with thee drives. Satisfied for the price of these drives and the performance increase. I run QEMU/KVM for running virtual machines on one drive and the OS and personal data on the other. Couldn’t be happier with the improvement of performance on my desktop. I cloned the mechanical drives to the SSD’s using Clonezilla.

I didn’t have a ecific use in mind when I purchased this drive, but it soon came in handy when I acquired a Late 2012 iMac with a dead internal hard drive. I paired this SSD with a cheap USB 3 SATA adapter, and the drive has been working perfectly ever since as the boot drive for the iMac. I can’t really give an accurate eed result as I’m running the drive through USB (as well as running macOS from the drive itself), but it performs very well considering the price. It’s definitely better than some other cheaper SSDs I own and have used.I would definitely consider using this drive to eed up an older computer, or to simply add a bit of storage that’s faster than a hard drive.

I built a new rig for my wife to replace an aging Athlon II system from 2012. If you don’t use an SSD as your OS drive in 2018 you’re doing it wrong. I opted for this Starlite Scuda SSD in the 250GB capacity. I have never heard of or purchased from Starlite Scuda before, but the other positive reviews seemed praiseworthy and there are very few reports of failures, so I decided to give it a go. It has 3D NAND and was incredibly inexpensive, so I figured I couldn’t go terribly wrong. The drive is incredibly lightweight, so much so that I was almost worried it was nothing more than a plastic shell. The drive has threaded screw-holes along both the side and the bottom, so you have options in mounting. My case had provisions for both, and I mounted it “flat” against the motherboard-side of the case, vertically. The drive is very quick, I’m not the kind of guy that has to eed-test my drives, but it cold-boots into Windows 10 in about 10 seconds or less, and wakes from sleep nearly instantaneously. Performance-per-dollar so far is outstanding. If it ever fails on me I’ll update the review, but so far so good.

I have two very old computers, a Dell laptop with a 1st Gen i3, and a Dell AIO with a Core 2 Duo that we use for business. I can’t comment on how they are with gaming, but after buying these drives to replace the old obsolete SATA drives there was a noticeable difference immediately. I installed Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.2 Tina on both computers, and with these new drives it takes less than 5 seconds to boot where before it would take almost a full 30 seconds. Operations are blazing fast with zero lag so for the price these SSD drives have put new life into these computers. I definitely recommend these.

Had this in an old Acer V5 laptop and always performed well. The Acer died in a coffee vs cat accident. Bought an Asus TUF gaming laptop. Came with 1tb NVME and windows. Decided to dual boot and threw the drive into the open SATA bay and installed fresh Arch Linux install. Linux is my primary boot. May boot windows less then once a month. This SSD still going strong. Under Linux activating a weekly TRIM command increased performance quite nicely once the drive became about half full. Buying another for my Grandsons laptop that just had a hard drive failure.

Upgraded my 2014 Mac mini to this 1tb SSD. I cloned the old drive in disk utility on the recovery mode of Mac OS. Then I shut down the Mac and tore everything apart and swapped the 5400 rpm drive out and this ssd in. Reassembled the Mac and booted just fine. My boot times went from a minute 56 seconds to 22 seconds.I did a few eed tests before and after. This drive is SATA 3 so the bottle neck is the interface itself. The SSD saturates most of the bandwidth ( a good thing)Definitely worth the price. If you want blazing eed you get a m.2 drive instead of sata. But you work with what you have.

I was on a look out for a larger size SSD as current one was only 250GB an full. Wanted 1 TB or larger mainly for games and to keep smaller SSD for OS and main programs. This SSD was on sale and looked good so I got it. It arrived quicker than expected and was packaged well. Set-up was easy and just as good as the other SSD. Have not tested it but is still better for loading games than a HDD. Will move it to new PC when I do that and use it as storage with m.2 SSD as a main.

My son purchased a new HP laptop that used a traditional HDD. He was dissatisfied with the performance. Looking through the reviews online, we saw that the HDD was a constant problem on this model. We purchased this SSD and got to work. We downloaded the ECHO cloning software and used the product key located on the sticker on the SSD. Since he was going from a 1TB drive to a 500GB drive, a dynamic resizing was chosen and it went off without a hitch. An hour later, the drive was cloned and the drives were swapped in the laptop. My boy is now much happier with his laptop.

I use this SSD for normal builds, but not high-performance workstations. I don’t know, maybe I wouldn’t see a big difference, but I don’t like to skimp on the SSD when it is an expensive build. I find the performance more than sufficient for the average user and the price is very reasonable. I have used a few for other people in laptops that are used for simple tasks, such as web browsing, word processing, other common applications. I used my more recent purchase for a Plex server and it is working great with zero issues. I still use NMVe drives when building or upgrading workstations, but if you want a good drive at a good price for a non-workstation, this one should work just fine. This SSD is also thin at 7mm, so it should work for most laptops not using M.2/NVMe.

My older desktop was getting tedious to use it was so slow. Changing from a hard disk to this really made a difference, now it’s almost eedy! As long as you have a Microsoft account associated with your already activated Windows 10 install (it shows “digital license” in the activation on win 10) its pretty easy to just get a Win 10 download and do a clean install. No need for cloning software, Microsoft automatically activates the new install when you associate your Microsoft account with it.

I have bought two of these for different clients. This SSD is the best value for the money to be found. I have found them to be reliable. I have even used them to replace a 3.5″ conventional HD. I had to use a 2.5″ to 3.5″ adapter, but it was well worth it. I gave Starlite Scuda SSD’s a try because I was so satisfied with my Starlite Scuda USB Flash Drive.

This SSD is great value for the money. I installed it in my laptop, and Windows went from over four and a half minutes to boot to well under a minute. Programs start quickly, updates are quick, it wakes up from sleep and powers down in a small fraction of the time it took on my old 7200rpm HDD. Is it the fastest or best featured SSD out there? No, of course not. But for a budget build, or to breath life into an older laptop? It’s perfect.

Wow, this thing is fast. I bought the SSD, cloned it exactly as my old one and the difference in eed is super obvious. Apps open lightening eed, macbook opens so fast there is no wait, garageband has no delay, just awesome. Totally worth totally worth it. My macbook is 2012 model 2.9Ghz i7 with 8GB RAM. I know that sounds like it should be super fast, but it wasnt. Sometimes it would take over a minute to start up. Now its like 2 seconds. Its like magic. Only regret is, wish I had bought a 500GB one.

Installed this SSD in a 7 year old Dell laptop that I thought was finished because it was taking 8-9 minutes just to start. Incredibly, startup and shutdown now take less than a minute. And – everything else is much quicker. Love it. BTW, there are tutorials on YouTube on how to do the installation – not a simple job. Don’t know about longevity, time will tell, most opinions say 5-10 yrs for SSD’s. They do wear out.

I have probably bought all the major brands of SSDs, and for everyday use, these from Starlite Scuda have performed flawlessly. The price is better than the competition and the drives perform as expected. I haven’t had one fail yet in several years of use. I edit video using these as the source and destination drives for the files. No issues or problems and the writes are very quick. The reads are almost instantaneous compared to the inning disks I used to use. If you are trying to extend the life of an older laptop – I recommend them for the job. We have two laptops each over 6 years old that are still going strong with these Starlite Scuda drives.

The Hard Drive is a beast. What used to take nearly 10 minutes to start my computer on a failing drive now takes about 15 seconds. The reason for 3 stars? Their cloning software that you can get when you register the device. First, why does a cloning software need to restart the computer to clone a hard drive? I’ve used a few cloning software programs and some are better than others, but none restarted my computer and booted into another operating system that only clones drives. That part isn’t really my complaint though. My complaint is that the program froze at 27% and stayed frozen for hours before it reset the computer and put it in what is called and “NTI Infinite Boot Loop”. I researched it and did everything I found for solutions but none of the solutions worked on my computer. Change my boot order to usb first and tried to boot from windows 10 usb to bypass starting up on the hard drive. Didn’t work. Tried to startup from usb to run re-installer. Didn’t work. That’s the other thing, the startup repair and re-install programs didn’t work. My system recovery point I created before running this cloning software didn’t work. I though the drive was completely dead but the memory check and hard drive check from bios determined everything was fine. Finally I freshly installed and installing the new hard drive. Fastest fresh install I’ve ever performed. I will now attempt to recover the files from my previous hard drive. Everything important I have backed up. Maybe a few hundred megabytes of data that wasn’t backed up to my external hard drive. My final thoughts, use a different cloning software than the one provided when registering. From my research the boot loop happens quite often.

Easy to install. So far so good. Still the best price for a somewhat name brand SSD. Using it as my Steam game library drive as my Samsung 960 Evo M.2 500 GB boot drive was filling up fast. For things like games, they do not really seem to take advantage of the faster NVME M.2 and I cant notice any difference in loading times.*** Update 2/13/19 I have been using the 1 TB version since I purchased it in June 2018. It is not my boot drive as I have a Samsung 960 EVO 500GB NVME for OS and quick boots. I have been using this as my Steam drive and it has so far worked flawlessly. The price is fair and it is more than fast enough for my games. It is about 75% full now and am considering a second one. 2TB drives are still a little too pricey for me. Since my case has room for up to 5 SSD’s I may get another. I am surprised at the poor reviews since most drives in this price range (exept Samsung) most likely use Micron 3d TLC and a Starlite Scuda Motion SM2258XT (or similar) controller. These are pretty standard components used in a reasonably priced SSD. What I’m saying is like most SSD’s Starlite Scuda doesn’t even make the most important parts. I guess it’s always possible to get a lemon, but I would assume most of the bad reviews are more likely due to user/installer error. Also some of the slow reported eeds are likely due to people mirroring their old inning drive to this and not understanding that they are mirroring a Windows setup not optimized for a SSD but for a old fashioned HD. If they do t understand this they would be better off ending a little extra time and doing a fresh Windows install. I wouldn’t select this drive if your doing a ton of writing and re-writing as this drive will slow down when writing huge files, but is way faster than Steam download eeds. I use it for downloading my games and just leave then there. The read eeds are pretty much as fast as a SATA drive can do which is what I wanted. I hope this helped those considering it and should I encounter any issues I will update again, but so far so good.

With SSD’s getting cheaper and cheaper I decided to get this one to add to my rig to increase my SSD storage for gaming as I currently have a NVMe 1TB drive for my operating system and part of my game collection but it is fast filling up. I bought the modest 256GB version here and while it is a bit slower in sequential read/write times (almost 66% slower according to CrystalDiskMark) that was expected since the NVMe is on a PCI x4. This drive was under $30 when I bought it, I had a similar SSD installed on my laptop years ago and it cost me a few hundred and was only actually about 200GB in total. With prices falling like they are for Solid State storage its nice to snag an inexpensive storage expansion option that is reliable and quick.Had no issues with Windows 10 recognizing the drive, though I did have to go into Disk Manager in order to set the Drive Letter the way I wanted and to initialize the partition so I could write files to it.

Seems like there is a rather small buffer for fast writes. Copying 10gb goes fast first, but then slows down to around 100mb/s… pretty sure CPU/SATA/RAM or anything else are no limiting factor, since my Samsung EVO Pro has no problem doing 400mb/s.At the end it’s probably good enough for 99% of the things. And at half the price..

This is the 3rd Starlite Scuda SSD I’ve purchase. The other 2 SSD are the older 120GB and they are still working fine after 3 years. I wanted to boost the performance of my Panasonic Toughbook for my son and this did the job as expected. The performance matches the price. If you’re buy this thinking you’re getting a Samsung 850 SSD eed then you need to adjust your expectation. Is it as fast as a Samsaung 850 SSD, no but for the money I can’t really complain.

[Update: Warranty replacement was OK. They wanted me to run a Windows drive performance test program, which was a bit irritating because I run MacOS, but it showed the problem and they gave me an RMA number which I used to mail in the failed drive. The replacement came back in about a week.]I got this drive when Starlite Scuda first started shipping this model (1TB 3d NAND A55). At first, this SSD was great — fast and reliable. After about 6 months, my system became slower and slower, with random short hangs and eventually became pretty unusable. I reinstalled the OS, which didn’t help until I reinstalled the OS on a different SSD. Finally it occurred to me to test the read/write eed of this disk, which had dropped from hundreds of MB/sec to roughly 4 MB/sec write and maybe 10 MB/sec read (varying wildly). The slow eeds persists with 4K blocks or 1MB blocks. I tried reformatting the SSD, which didn’t help. I also tried the reads/writes from Linux and they are just as slow.I haven’t used this disk heavily, it was just the system disk for a desktop PC, and it tended to run about 1/3 full.If I can get reasonable warranty support, I’ll come back and update the review. The serial number suggests that it was within the first thousand drives they shipped, so maybe it was teething pains with their production.

Maybe because of a local configuration, I couldn’t install WIn10 straight.I had to fully formate the ssd, then install win 7 and perform every updates untill upgrade to win 10.This was not as heavy as I feared: I finished the whole process within 4 hours, thanks to the amazing eed of the ssd.

the item helps eed up the old laptop but the cloning part was not smooth because cloning of a 500G HD to a 256G SSD. A few time software tool stop in the middle of the process for no reason and would not finish. I had to restart the procedure a couple times. I had to tell to not clone some data to reduce the size to get to the finish line but it seems to still hang at the end so ended up with a system that mostly working ok except there is a bit of corruption of data.

I bought this and 16GB of memory to update a Dell Latitude 5480 laptop for a friend. The change has been transformative — it runs faster than ever!I matched this roughly to size of the existing hard drive, because the owner doesn’t add a lot of software or store a large amount of music or video files. He was only using about 25% of the drive’s capacity, so purchasing this 512GB SSD seemed to be a prudent step.I inserted the unformatted drive into an external USB drive interface, and used Macrium Reflect Free to clone this disc from the one in the machine. (Doing this creates a bootable drive that only has to be swapped-out with the original hard disk — easy-peasy!)It took less than an hour to do the cloning, and another 5 minutes to switch out the drives. It booted — QUICKLY!!! — the first time, and the combination of this SSD and the additional memory made for a snappy ‘new’ computer for my friend at the cost of a little over $100 for the drive and memory, combined.Totally worth it!

I got one of these to put in my previous laptop that I had used for about 3 years, before I was able to put together my current system. It was gathering dust, and when I checked the previous drive’s health on my current system, it read that it was approaching the end of its life.I was able to install it without any issues on the drive’s part (I hadn’t put its mount on correctly at first, which was easily fixed), and when I installed Windows to it, it worked perfectly well. Plus it made the old laptop so much quieter than it had ever been, which was a nice bonus.A good recommendation for anyone that wants to eed up an older computer, without having to break the bank doing so.

I’ve bought 3 or 4 different drives from Starlite Scuda and to date I’ve not been disappointed. They are usually the most or close to the most cost effective option and they just work. I wont bog you down with tech ecs and comparisons.. If this fits in your price range and you are looking to get into a solid state drive as an upgrade from a standard hard disk, this thing will blow you away. The solid state drives are so much faster, it’s ridiculous. Someone will probably post why some other drive is better for some slight detail.. For most of us, you can’t go wrong with this one..

Love it! Guts of a computer don’t scare me, technically trained, love experimenting around & had too on this. Couldn’t add as a slave drive so removed an optical drive took the cables from hdd & put aside then removed optical cables plugged into hdd made ssd slave thereby adjusting bios making hdd 1st. Cloned drive & voila! Shutdown, removed hdd & computer fired up faster than when I 1st bought it!

I have also been using SSD’s for years in different sizes and never had any issue with them not working. Save your money and buy this drive!

I had this in a laptop as the main system drive for just over a month without hint of an issue. Then, I found the laptop in a blue screen state. Restarted, but it wouldn’t boot. I restarted a couple times to ensure it wasn’t just a fluke. It wasn’t. In fact, I noticed that it was taking the BIOS screen much longer (~10 sec) than usual (~2 sec) to hand off to the bootloader. I’m no BIOS engineer, but I take that to mean it’s having issues accessing the bootloader to begin with, and was probably slowed in accessing the data.Took the drive out to put on a USB adapter. The first thing I noticed was how hot it was. Much hotter than that comparable SanDisk right next to it. Keep in mind that at this point they were just kind of idle since the system wasn’t even booting, and it took at least a minute for me to get to the drive inside the laptop, which gave it time to cool.On the USB adapter, there were zero issues detecting the drive, accessing data, and browsing around. Full checkdisk revealed no errors. When the laptop was failing to boot, it always referenced winload.exe as the problem, so I did a CRC on that compared to one of the same file version, they were identical (indicating no problem), and the Microsoft signatures were in tact as well. Basically, the disk worked flawlessly to the naked eye.Stumped, I recalled the noticeable heat, and given that I was outside the return period and saw another review about RMA problems, decided I’d like to avoid that. So I removed the metal shell in order to permit better dissipation of heat. NOTE: Where this drive is being used, there is zero risk of the PCB or any of the drive’s circuits from coming into contact with other components, there is plastic sandwiching the whole thing and the small and light PCB hovers away from any other surface–I would not do this if there was risk of contact with other metal. I affixed a small piece of tape to the two SATA connectors to bond them and ensure no chance of it ever wiggling out (the laptop is mostly stationary because it’s a larger gaming laptop).So far, this has worked, and I’ve seen no further issues.– UPDATE: About one month since removing the metal shell for heat management, and still no bluescreens nor any other issues have been observed.

I replaced the stock 320 GB HDD in my early 2011 MacBook Pro with this SSD (simultaneously upgrading the memory from the stock 4 GB to 16 GB of Timetec Hynix RAM). This drive was significantly cheaper than other big name brands, so I decided to take a chance on it.I’m quite happy with its performance and value for the money, to the point that I’m considering upgrading my gaming PC’s main storage drive to another one of these. My MB Pro now boots up from a complete shutdown in 20-30 seconds, compared to the several agonizing minutes it took the old HDD to boot up. Waking up from sleep mode is comparatively lightning fast, as well, and there’s no longer any lag after startup/wakeup.Installation was relatively painless, aside from the several hours it took to clone my old drive, but that’s an unavoidable part of the process. If you’re nervous about opening up your Apple computer to upgrade it, don’t worry! There are tons of tutorials out there and it’s really easy. If you can use a screwdriver and assemble Legos, you can do this, too.If your old HDD is still useable, I’d recommend getting an inexpensive external drive enclosure to repurpose it, rather than throwing it away.

Great for 70 bucks. Using this as my main drive, and I have no real complaints. The material is quite cheap plastic, but I’m not just constantly touching my ssd, so that’s perfectly fine. Boot times are relatively quick, like, sub 10 seconds usually. Sub 15 maybe. Copying files is fine. I get eeds of about 540 MB/s, and about 490 MB/s write (seq).Nothing wrong with this, hasn’t failed. Ill update this if that changes.

I tried one of these about a month ago to back up multi-cam video projects via a usb3 docking bay and got so-so performance of around 85 mM/sec. But just got another one and connected it directly to the mobo this time and what a difference. Copying to about 2/3 of the 512mb capacity had peak times over 400mB/sec till about half way through then got lots of wild fluctuations so I timed an average from start to finish and it clocked at about 230 mB/sec. A little slower but substantially cheaper than equivalent usb3 capacity Samsung T3 and T5 units I usually use which average around 275 mB/sec doing the same thing. Just ordered a Kingwin trayless hot-swap mobile SATA rack, which is kind of like a docking bay that mounts in a drive slot that connects with Sata3. I’ve been doing my video work right on this guy internally mounted for now and don’t notice any perceptible performance difference compared to editing on the internal SSD work drive I usually use. Seems to be a better way to work. When I get the Kingwin bay, the plan is to just pull drives out and file them away when I’m done with a project and pick up a new one for the next… without a copy operation or cracking open the box each time.UPDATE: latest version I received of this looks more rugged with a metal shell but doesn’t seem to auto-detect as a are drive on boot-up on my Win10 ASUS mobo. Not a show stopper for me because I bring it to the front panel and it detects when I hot plug it after boot up. Would be a problem if mounted internally. Firmware flash tool doesn’t detect it at all even though their drive health tool does. Older versions (plastic shell) and Pioneer SSD work just fine.

I have a few older computers that had mechanical drives. Over time you could hear those drives starting to wear out. It wasn’t fragmentation either; you could hear it even after a fresh install of the OS. Still, I need those computers. One by one I replaced their hard drives. This was the final one. Same brand, but this SSD’s capacity was slightly larger than its predecessors. It came with an updated look, but still light as a feather. The hardware installation was fast and easy, as was installing the new OS. Sure, it’s an 8 year old computer, but now it acts brand new.

I put this drive in and it is faster than the original HDD but considerably slower than the CRUCIAL MX500. For $25 more I would have been better served by getting a Crucial MX500 instead. I’ve had this for a year and 2 months now. No problems whatsoever. Faster boot up, fast loading times for playing games, and the copy and reads are pretty fast overall. There’s nothing much else to say about this SSD. It’s fast and reliable. If you want to check your SSD’s health, go download and install CrystalDiskInfo. Make sure it’s the one with “info”. After you install, you get to see your SSDs and regular hard drives health and other info. My SSD’s health status is 93% and I’ve been installing and downloading a lot of games I currently play. Then I just delete the game when I’m completely done with it. I was surprised how small and thin it was when I got it. I’m still, really amazed how technology with computer storage has gone so far and the SSD sticks (the M.2 2280 type) are awesome! Anywho, if you’re looking for a quick upgrade to an SSD, want faster boot up, and a cheaper price then get this one. If not the Samsung SSD then you can get this one. There’s always more room for additional storage anyways.

This is my third Starlite Scuda SSD and they have all been great so far. It’s truly amazing how much they increase performance. My 5 year old laptop now boots in 25 seconds. It would be nice if they all came with the cloning tool that the first came with but other then that the devices are fast and reliable. make sure you are properly installing them and initializing them either through windows setup, diskpart, or control panel disk management. if windows can not see the drive after you install it first check cables. then you must make sure the bios can see it. then either use a windows installation drive or disc and let it format the drive, you can also use diskpart very easy to format it. but so far i have used a dozen of these for cheap clients who dont want to end anything to fix their computers and these work just fine and while not the fastest ssd they are a drastic upgrade from a inning platter. not sure i would put these in business machines but for a cheap drive they do the job. i can not eak for service but i have had to warranty memory about a year ago and had no issues doing so. we will see if i ever need to which of course i hope i dont. i do warn people these are cheap drives and that the warranty is through the manufacture only and not our shop because they ask for the cheapest drive they can get. for better brands we handle the warranty for them.

I bought 10 of these thinking they were going to work well for a RAID setup. Boy was I wrong. I had a suicion something was screwy when I was writing 1 TB of large files (20-80 G) and it took overnight to complete. So then I ran some write tests (in linux) against an existing array of WD red (not fast) and very old Samsung 850 Pro disks from 2017 and it turns out to be 10x slower than WD Red disks in write performanceMy attached analysis shows these disks to be basically worthless for writing. I suect the extremely bad write performance with large files is due to the write tests going beyond the cache capacity (which was the point of my tests, really) Unfortunately I threw away the packaging for most of these, so I’m probably going to have to unload them for almost nothing and get some Samsung SSDsThe only reason I am giving these 2 stars instead of 1 is because the read eed is OK. Still not as good as 5 year old SSD technology. Sad, really. Maybe I should give 1 star.

Killer Deal AT FIRST but BEWARE!!! I purchased three of these drives as a cheaper alternative to the name brand SSD manufacturers. At first everything seemed great, however I noticed within a matter of months when I would update my steam games it would take an extremely long time to update. Finally, being fed up with the slowness I decided to get into troubleshooting mode and downloaded “Hard Disk Sentinel which verified the drive was not failing. I then ran crystal disk mark on all my drives to see the compared eed and became immediately upset. The branded SSD for some reason has ABYSMAL WRITE EEDS compared to my 3 year old 2D TLC Samsung SSD. Since discovering this, I will now have to pull the other drives I purchased out of my Server to begin testing on those as well. I am hoping that this was just an outlier case, but we will soon find out. I will update this post with my findings soon for the other two drives.

Installed this Starlite Scudae power SSD in a 2008 Macbook and got it running with High Sierra. And it runs fantastic. Great Value for my money. 256GB SSD for $30 is a Fantastic price for the performance of this. In my other computers I have usually put a Samsung EVO SSD in them and they have been fast and flawless. This time I was just trying to resurrect an older macbook to make it usable as I don’t really need a system for much except mostly internet browsing and email. While the regular hard drive would have sufficed, I was frustrated after just hitting power on the older macbook and waiting for it to boot to a useable desktop. The SSD has given this old macbook a new lease on life and it runs fast and flawless for me just like the Samsung Evo. Price – Performance this cannot be beaten. I would buy these drives again.

Was great until it died, just before the 2 year mark. I know it’s under warranty, but it was such a scary process trying to pull all my important stuff off of it. Some of the windows files became corrupt. If I tried copying too many files at a time it would blue screen crash and reboot. It would also blue screen and reboot every 10 minutes if I just let it sit. I swapped in my old hard disk drive and tried accessing the SSD as a USB drive and it would hang on any file transfers. Will never buy this brand again.

Great 1TB SSD for a low price, what’s not to like. My old system used a 128GB SSD for the OS and a couple of 1TB HD’s for everything else. I went to this 1TB drive so I could just run 1 C drive for mostly everything and a 5TB HD for all of my media. Not having to worry about the capacity of the “main” drive has been very nice.

Purchased this one AUG2020….Fast forward to Feb2022 and IS DEAD!!!! I bought this SSD ecifically for Steam for Gaming. The loading was MUCH slower then other SSD’s I had but I didn’t mind…. as time progressed it kept getting slower and slower… until today it was completely dead and the computer would not even detect it. I tried everything to make sure it wasn’t another issue and its definitely gone. I purchased one 500GB(system) and one 1TB (gaming). Again the 1TB is completely dead and the 500 GB takes approximately 3mins to load up windows, I’m sure its probably getting ready to die also. Now in comparison to other SSD’s I have… I purchased a WD Green SSD 240GB about 4+ years ago and it still working like the first day I bought it. I recommend going with a better known brand like Crucial/Samsung/Kingston or ScanDisk that will last for much longer and maintain the performance over time.

Slowly replacing older traditional rotating media hard disk drives with SSD storage in some older computers. As a PC tech with over 40 years fixing and upgrading computers, it was an easy install as I have all the hardware and software tools to do this. If you purchase, it is a “bare” storage device that does not come with any hardware, or software tools to transfer data from an old hard disk drive to this new SSD device. If you don’t have the tools, or experience to do this yourself, do not blame the manufacturer for not providing them. You are on your own. I’m very bothered by purchasers who complain these are not a complete kit. You’re getting what you’re paying for, a blank & bare storage device.

Chucked this thing in my pc that has an rx 580 and an intel 3570k and hot damn this thing is quick, cloned my previous drive onto this one and everything loads within seconds, it gets to the desktop from off in under 10 seconds and only takes another 10 to have literally everything loaded and ready to go. I have no complaints regarding this drive, if you have a slow pc I highly recommend getting this drive as it’s only 40 bucks!! But your gonna want to have another 1 or 2 tb drive for any games you might have

My original hard drive on my laptop was a blazing slow 5200 RPM and upon getting this Starlite Scuda 256GB SSD it really end up my system to where the CPU is now the next thing needing to be ungraded lol. Great price for a decent size! I have a Acer Aire 7720Z which shows to support up to SATA II. I don’t mind that I am potentially not getting the max transfer eeds as for what it is, it is fast enough for me.

This thing is nice. Performance is about what you would expect, mostly limited by the SATA interface. Obviously this thing can’t compete with an m.2 ssd, but it beats using a hard drive. Personally I’m thrilled to see ssd’s coming down to a price where you could reasonably build a computer without hdd’s.Overall decent item. Reasonable performance and good capacity for the price.

The drive was purchased in March of 2021 and I attempted to install it in a computer that was being upgraded. It would not accept installation of the operating system. I set it aside and used a different drive for that installation. I later installed the drive in another computer and was able to install Windows on it and it worked just fine. Once the computer was setup for a user it consistently would lockup and reboot to a black screen saying that there was no boot device. If you powered off the computer and pulled the power cord, it would power up and boot again. This happened multiple times and we then replace the drive with a different brand; no more problems.I have installed many Starlite Scuda SSDs without issue. I believe that this drive is just a lemon.

I was looking for an inexpensive SSD to use as an external drive for my video footage when editing in Premiere Pro on my laptop so as not to bog down my system’s limited resources. This has been PERFECT for that purpose! It’s super fast and works great! All I had to do was insert it into an external housing (I bought a Sabrent brand one for $9), plug it in and partition the drive in disk manager which took 2 minutes tops and I was up and running! All of the internal SSDs I put in my desk top PC are Samsung brand but I have to say I’m very impressed with this drive and would definitely consider buying it as an internal in the future! That being said, it’s outstanding as an external drive and I can highly recommend it for that purpose, eecially if you don’t want to break the bank! I paid full price for this. Hope it helps somebody else!

Bought this SDD for my desktop PC as a ‘replacement’ hard drive – ecifically as a dedicated storage for my game files as the old 2TB SATA drive just didn’t cut it.It does what it suppose to and after replacing my older SATA my games load twice as fast. However, this is more attributed to the difference in hard drive technology (SATA vs SDD) than the hard drive itself or brand.Speaking of brand – Starlite Scuda is not one of those BIG name hard drive brand. However performance wise it performs adequately. I’ve compared it with my Patriot Burst SDD and its performance is decent and this is considering the price of the SDD being sub $50 for 512GB.SummaryI can’t really comment on the reliability since I only owned it for less than a year. But it does come with a 3 years limited warranty which is good. Overall its a great hard drive with reectable performance at an awesome price point!

We use this in our bedroom’s home theater (desktop) PC .It installed easily, OS and software loaded correctly, and operation has been completely up to expectation. Our HTPC is a system I built from used parts (except for this SSD).Our older PC (which I’m currently converting to a home file-server) has used a 120GB Starlite Scuda SSD for over FOUR YEARS with zero problems, so I felt confident that this newer drive would operate as well as the older–and so far it shows no sign of problems.In normal home-use, it seems a perfect boot and application device, though we have a secondary HD or two for large files and video/music storage.Economy and utility–fulfills its purpose. Hard not to recommend it.

Very fast, my laptop would literally take 5 minutes to boot up to a usable state, with this 30 secs. However if you are DOWNSIZING from a larger HDD to this, it is not straightforward, I have upgraded dozens of drives over the years, I don’t claim to be an expert, but probably above average in computer skills. I had an awesomely slow 1TB drive on my laptop, way more storage than I needed. I took off extra stuff and got it to about 150gb, then tried several clone/drive migration programs and none would work for some reason or another. I read online it is possible, but seemed complicated, and frankly I didn’t want to pop extra money for a “pro” clone program, with no guarantees they would work, or get into system settings.Solution– I ended up just doing a clean reinstall of windows 10 and programs, and kept my old drive as a backup, seemed like a much faster solution, plus gave me chance to get a bunch of bloatware off my computer.

Quick and easy installation. Size of the drive is great and its really nice not having to worry about the issues you usually have with a HD like the head alignment and cylinder issues. Put two of these in my 2011 macbook pro along with a ram upgrade and it runs faster/more efficient than my wife’s 2018 macbook pro. Great value for the price and would 100% recommend.

I love using the Solid State Hard Drives. They are noticeably much faster than the traditional electromechanical drives. I think that mechanical drives are susceptible to wear as they age. Let’s face it, mechanical drives rotate; and they rotate at a pretty good clip, time consuming and subject to wear out. Plus, bumps and thumps are bound to add to wear the mechanical parts with age, slowing them down. No moving parts here, this sweetie doesn’t have to in, access and data delivery, absolutely ingenious.

Fantastic SSD. I bought this for my older laptop that was made for Windows 7. I had upgraded it to Windows 10, and realized it was very sluggish with my old mechanical drive. Well I added this drive to the laptop, and it has made a huge improvement on performance and battery life. The boot time is incredible. I don’t need a lot of ace on the laptop, so the storage size is perfect for me. Obviously if you need more storage, it won’t be ideal for you, but for laptops it’s perfect. Best 30 bucks I ever ent.

The HDD got slow with time passing by so i needed a SSD to take out the OS from the HDD to operate in the SSD. I bought this one because it seems to be good with an affordable price. Died after less than a year. Seemed to work fine but then it all the sudden crapped out last week. I can’t even load a fresh install of windows it’s so crapped out. ’s website states their hard drives have a multi year warranty. I emailed them and hope to hear back and receive a replacement under warranty. If they don’t cover their faulty drive and send me a replacement I’ll leave this review as is. If they stand behind their warranty then I’ll revisit this review and adjust it.Updated June 2021: I reached out to and sent them the bad drive and they sent me a replacement. I had to pay return shipping for the bad one but it was only a couple bucks. New one seems to be working fine. I’m really glad they stood behind their warranty. Still sucks it crapped out after a year but maybe it was just a bad one. Guess I’ll see how this new one works out.

has been hit or miss for me. I’ve bought a few of these SSDs of various sizes. I had one outright die on me after approximately a year. The one I have now keeps losing ace, I guess it’s trimming? But it’s closing in on 200GB on a 1TB drive that I can’t access.It was nice at the time to save $10 or $15 or whatever at the time, but going forward I’m going to be looking for a more prominent brand that’s more reliable. I can’t outright say Starlite Scuda is bad or you should not buy it, but my personal feeling is this is definitely a case of you get what you pay for.

This was one of the best values I’ve found for SSD’s in the 1TB range. Most others still run well over $100 for 1TB of storage (at the time of this review in Dec 2019).Starlite Scuda does provide free software for download to check and monitor the health (and check the SMART stats) of their SSD drives – Toolbox. I would recommend downloading the free utility from ‘s website for occasionally checking and ensuring your drive is in good health. From a transfer rate perective, this SSD works as advertised, and performs as well as a Crucial MX SSD 3D NAND that I also have installed in the same desktop system.SSD’s are best for general purpose use – primarily as boot drives for OS and apps, eecially on laptops. The OS will boot much, much faster from a SSD compared to a mechanical HDD, and the SSD will consume a lot less power than a mechanical HDD. Apps also launch in a fraction of the time on a SSD. The only drawback with a SSD is its overall shelf life – it has a limited number of writes, which not a huge factor if you’re only using the drive for booting the OS and running apps. For media storage, backups, databases, and large files, mechanical HDD’s are still the way to go, and they’re still a lot less expensive than a SSD. Over time, if you write or delete a lot of data from a SSD drive, performance will begin to deteriorate. Most however will not encounter much in the way of performance degradation, even after several years of drive use. Either way, SSD is best for “read” operations, and will vastly outperform a mechanical HDD for reading data, hence the much faster boot and app launch times. They are well worth it for the performance boost…time is money.Starlite Scuda seems to be making quality drives that work, but time will tell. If it fails or clunks out early, I’ll be back here to modify my review. Otherwise, no complaints, 5 stars.

I installed this as a boot drive on my backup desktop PC I have at my parent’s house. I rarely use it, but the other day I decided to overclock it (which, logically, causes lots of crashes and restarts) and boy did this save me time. The startup is snappy and quick and getting into BIOS is a breeze (I sometimes even missed it because I was distracted and it leaves the post screen quickly). It’s cheap, is a good bang-for-the-buck and, even though it might not be as fast as other SSDs out there, it definitely gets the job done.

It installed easy without problems. I cloned my current drive to this ssd, and then installed the ssd as my main drive. I paid a little more money for this drive because it is supposed to come with a “SSD Health Diagnostics and Monitoring System”. I downloaded the software ” Toolbox” from their website but it does not work. I read the manual and followed the instructions but it doesn’t seem to install right and doesn’t detect the drive. I saw another review which said its not working in windows 10 but I also tried backwards compatibility settings with no success. I am now looking for a program that will work to monitor the ssd health. I am emailing tech support from Starlite Scuda and if the problem is solved I will update the review.

This drive might not be as fast as the Samsung SSDs, but they perform great, at a great price point. This is the second Starlite Scuda SSD I’ve installed and I’ll definitely consider installing more.

Easy to install and setup. For my application, I cloned my magnetic drive to the SSD easily on a “workbench” PC that I already have MiniTool Partition Wizard on. I truly believe the SSD is a good performer and I would be inclined to buy again for another machine, but for some reason my performance wasn’t light years better on my Toshiba laptop with 6GB of memory and AMD processor. I would say my boot up time has only improved 33%, whereas I was under the impression from other reviews that I would see a 75-80% improvement. And I was expecting Firefox to launch fully in 2 or 3 seconds, but launch time is the same as before, 20-30 seconds. I might be doing something wrong. I wonder if my Avast antivirus is so crippling that it makes my SSD look like a magnetic HDD. But I still rate highly and would buy again for another machine. I’m being forgiving and don’t think these drives are that bad.

The hard drive itself was great. Easy installation. I purchased this hard drive because it came with partitioning software however, it was difficult figuring out how to get the software downloaded and installed from the website. Even after finally figuring out where to download it, the software itself would crash during the cloning of my previous drive. I ended up buying a different software suite. Great for refurbishing an old machine you have laying around and sending it out the door with a new lease on life.Used for my nephew’s computer I build him for Christmas, with an AMD FX 6300, 8gb of RAM, Asus MA-970 chipset motherboard with garbage ASMedia hard drive controller. It actually ed the thing up nice with a legit copy of Windows 10 (using the Windows 7 key for authorization as it was tied to the motherboard on an OEM license).Nary an issue, works great, and was nice and fast.Great for:Kid’s computernon-production machines for net uselight to medium-duty Laptopmachines you are gifting away, to friends, family, or grand-maStorage for media files (get the bigger model, but check prices against more known brands first)Not to great for:Content creation, or other heavy-duty multimedia work like video editing or game design. Get an NVME or high-end sata drive for that, you’ll thank yourself later.Saving large pictures when working with 4k or higher, get something like an NVME drive for this again.Conclusion:For all those times when it doesn’t pay to end the extra 10~20$ to get a super-fancy brand, as not everyone needs that nor will notice the difference, these drives fit the bill. I have no complaints and have had a few brand drives without any issue. Just go in knowing that, while they’re much much faster than any hard drive could ever hope to be, they’re not the fastest thing out there, nor will they set any eed records. The top-half of the drive is plastic, vs some other drives that have a complete metal enclosure. The drive does not go fast enough to warrant metal for heat-dissipation, so as not to worry, otherwise it wouldn’t be designed this way.This is a solid mainstream drive and is marketed as such. No gimmicks, no run-around.To that end, I got what I paid for, no hassle & no complaints what-so-ever.If your drive gets slow after an unplanned shutdown (as all Hard Drives or SSD’s can), please open an Administrator-level command prompt (CTRL+SHIFT+CLICK) and type “CHKDSK /F C:” (provided C: is your SSD), and press enter. If it asks to do it after a restart, press Y and hit enter. Then save your work and restart the machine and wait patiently for a minute or two (or less!) while the machine checks the drive for loose files laying about. The machine will be faster after it auto-restarts upon completion.This holds true for any drive OF ANY BRAND in a modern computer, and is due to the fact that an unplanned shutdown will mark the disk as dirty making the drive double-check where everything is, causing quite a bit of wait time for the CPU, resulting in slower performance and hitching in games or other applications. So write down that command and keep it for later incase the power goes out or the machine locks up or gets slow.–Best of luck and GREAT PRODUCT!

Easy to install. I small problem porting over Windos10 but nothing really big. The only issue with SSD drives is keeping the amount of free ace available needs to be 70% of the disk ace and you need to do few opening and closing of files to keep it lasting a long time. Best used for booting and moving everything else to a traditional hard drive to keep the I/O low on the SSD drive. Using in on my laptop and it works fine…so far.

I purchased this for additional ace for games. For being an SSD from a second/third tier brand it’s still MUCH faster than any HDD and has no issues whatsoever. Maybe I would be reluctant to store family photos or run Windows off of it in the presence of a higher quality SSD and an HDD (such as what’s in my tower right now,) but for long term storage of non-critical entities like games this SSD is perfect.

I purchased a Starlite Scuda A55 SSD (1TB). I’m temporarily using the A55 to boot a 2015 MacBook Pro. The A55 boots up the MacBook Pro when connected via a USB to SATA connection, but the behavior is different when using a FireWire cable to SATA connection. Via FireWire to SATA cable, the Mac boots part way up, but then a circle with a slash appears across the screen. I filed a support ticket with Starlite Scuda and am waiting to hear back. Until then, I’m holding with 3 stars unless ‘s support staff can resolve this situation.

I bought it pretty certain it was going to be good. From my research, it uses Samsung parts, can’t verify that. Given its performance I’d say that is an accurate statement. I get close to 350MB reads, and 300MB writes. It makes the boot times on my computer from the power button push to useable boot (including steam loading, and other boot programs.) like ten to twenty seconds. I love it.If there is a 2 TB version I’d upgrade to it.

Put this in an older desktop [Dell Volstro 220] running Windows 10. Yes, it actually ran Windows 10 believe it or not. But did start up and open programs rather slow on the older hard drive. This SSD actually loads things like this is a new computer! Windows is up in less than a minute. No longer waiting on browsers or programs to sluggishly load! I’m VERY happy with the performance of this little drive!

I got two of the 512GB drives, one to use as an external SSD in an enclosure and one to install into my Mac Mini 2012 for storage of musical instrument samples. The one in my external SSD continues to work fine to this day (nearly a year later). However, in my Mac I suddenly noticed my samples were loading very slowly and I was often getting stuttering and dropouts in the audio. I booted the Mac into Linux and did a performance test and found that most of the drive was producing read eeds below 10MB/sec.I created a raw image of the entire drive (which took over 12 hours at this eed) and then manually TRIMmed the drive with blkdiscard and wrote the image back. Writing the image back happened at a normal eed and afterwards, reading the drive produced the expected read eeds. The machine is working as expected again, but this incident has raised some concern for me.I don’t necessarily think the drive is a bad drive, but I wonder if it may be a result of the heat generated by the Mac Mini when its CPU utilization is high. I’m purchasing an enterprise-class SSD for the Mini, and will probably reuse this drive in my desktop (where there’s more airflow and it’s cooler) to store games or something else that’s easily replaced should the drive actually fail.Recommendations:1. Be mindful if you use it in a less-than-optimum environment (in a cramped warm case like a Mac Mini, or in a laptop with poor cooling for example).2. Periodically do a full read test on the drive. Something like HD Tune can do an error scan which will do this. Check the read eed and make sure it’s still presenting reasonably high eeds.3. If you should suddenly experience poor performance, try doing what I did – copy all the data off to somewhere else, erase the drive and copy it back.

Used this as a budget way to eed up the boot time of a customers all-in-one PC. It took minutes for the thing to boot even after I optimized it. The bottleneck being the read/write of the slow HDD she had. I cloned and swapped this lit sucker in, and waalaa! Boot now takes 30 seconds. Still not as fast as a higher end drive/faster PC, but day an night difference. She was very happy. Saved her money and made her happy which will keep me a customer coming back if she needs fixes for the future! I did eed test the drive after install, but I cannot remember the ecific eeds. I’d like to say around 450 read and 250 write? Much improved over a in HDD at any rate.

I’m on Windows 10 and was upgrading from 128GB to 512GB (single drive system). I downloaded and used Starlite Scuda’s Echo 3 software – The drive comes with a key for it. It appeared to work, but in my opinion finished too quickly (under 5 minutes). Sure enough, the new drive would boot into windows and bluescreen with NTFS error. I think it copied the boot partition, but messed up the NTFS partition. After a lot of attempts and troubleshooting, I finally used Macrium Reflect instead of Starlite Scuda’s software and had success on the first try. Drive is working well, but migration software it comes with should not be used.

I bought this drive to use in upgrading my ASUS laptop to Windows 10, unfortunately after installing the drive ( which was easy ) I found out that Win10 doesn’t support my laptop’s video. So, I reversed course and cloned the old drive to this new Starlite Scuda drive. Again, everything wen smoothly and I’m now enjoying a much improved laptop. Just still running Windows 7. But that isn’t Starlite Scuda’s fault, so I’m a happy customer.

I’ve updated five of our laptops to SSD drives now. It makes them SO much faster and less prone to break down. The prices have plummeted on SSD drives. I was debating on 500GB or 1TB and the price difference wasn’t that big so I went with a bigger drive. Although I don’t need the ace right now, I know I’ll have the laptop quite a bit longer (thanks to the increased eed), so I’m sure I’ll appreciate the extra ace later.Installation was simple. I have a USB to SATA adapter that I bought when I upgraded my first one. I used Macrium Reflect to clone the drive, expanding the windows partition to use the extra ace (my original HD was only 500GB). Once it was done, I found a YouTube guide for replacing the drive in my particular laptop. About a dozen screws later, I had the hard drive replaced. Reassembly was quick and easy, and now my laptop boots up in seconds.

I bought this for my wife’s Lenovo laptop with a core I7-6500U with 8GB of RAM and Windows 10.The price to performance of this little drive is just amazing.For a 5 x 1GB diskmark run, the drive averages:526MB/s read eed and 452.9 MB/s write eeds for seq Q32T1164 MB/s read and 121MB/s write for 4K Q32T1440 MB/s read and 275 MB/s write for seq10.42 MB/s read and 64.8 MB/s write for 4K (definitely a little lower here than say the MX500)The numbers above are also provided on a drive that is 28% full, so it does get fairly close to advertised eeds. We all know they are always a little exaggerated.Over the Firecuda drive it replaced, which was a hybrid SSD drive, this thing is noticeable snappier and load windows up 4 times as fast. Lightroom opens at least 4 times as fast as well.A 3 year warranty provides safety that this thing will last a while, just don’t forget to register on their site.Based on the numbers and the price to performance, looks like I will be buying a second one for my games drive very soon. Who knew that a no name brand (at least for me) would be such a nice purchase.

Item is as described. Installed fine. Cloned from a Samsung 860 Pro (I am a Samsung fan, but their current freezing issue on the 860 ‘s that I have been suffering from, I thought it was time for a change) I own two flash drives from and they have worked flawlessly for years. I recommend Macrium reflect free for the cloning. The monitoring program offered by is nice as well… Not as fully featured as Magician from Samsung..No over provisioning offered. This drive runs slightly cooler than the 860, and the pc boot time is only one second slower to usable desktop upon boot. Not bad for the cost savings.

I bought two of these to replace the hard disk drive (hhd) to improve my laptop and my daughters. And I also used it to replace the hard drive in my xbox one x. All for better performance, and to not have to buy an entirely new laptop or xbox. I bought a drive docking station to be able to keep accessing my old drives (Sabrent USB 3.0 to SATA I/II/III Dual Bay External Hard Drive Docking Station for 2.5 ) You just use the existing connections of the device you’re replacing. Replacing the three devices was my first time and it took me 6 hours the first time and 2 hours the other times. I found YouTube videos and my laptop’s troubleshooting manual on how to take it apart (lots of searching online for that one). I also made sure I downloaded a bootable Windows 10 on a USB drive. Neither laptop was listed under Windows for product keys so I guess it automatically recognized them. And I had my Microsoft Office 2013 already too (with key, though i didn’t have to enter it). It was a fun project for my first time (I’m almost 50 years old woman), and it definitely was great for fresh install before online school started during COVID-19. Would I do it again? Yep. already have the magnetic tool for the screws and dry eraser to mark it, and all my little tiny screw drivers. Putting it all back together (reversing the instructions from YouTube) was the hardest part. But I now have three devices that will keep going for at least another 3 years without having to replace them.

I have a use for an old DELL Iniron 537s that was horribly slow, and decided to update it to an SSD. First I tried to install a Samsung 850 EVO with their “magician” cloning software, which didn’t work because the hard disk in the desktop “was not supported”. I discovered that the PC’s old motherboard has a BIOS that only provides IDE SATA, and this may have been the reason. I returned the 850 EVO and bought this Starlite Scuda SSD. I opened the PC and connected this SSD to the SATA and power cables of the DVD. Booted into the BIOS and checked that it was recognized. I had found on the back of the SSD the information to download the Starlite Scuda cloning software, which I did. This software was easy to use and it cloned the HDD to the SSD in no time (maybe because the SSD was on SATA and not on an USB). I swapped the SSD to the SATA and power connectors of the HDD without removing the hard disk but easily finding a ace for the small SSD, then powered up and the old PC woke up to a new life, pleasantly fast. So far I am quite satisfied with update, and I hope the SSD will last me forever.The only minor issue I have is with the cloning software. Nowhere it says that the way to get it is by finding a small label on the back of the SSD that gives the site from where to download it. And the process, although not hard, has unnecessary steps and checks with long codes and verification through email, as it would be about a bank account that has millions of dollars in it. Maybe the vendor could simplify this, since one still has to buy the drive to make the cloning.

When i received this drive, none of my 3 computers could see it once i connected it. The drive would show in my bios, and in disk management, but not in File Explorer. I tried changing sata in bios to AHCI like one of the other reviewers mentioned, didn’t work, i tried deleting AHCI manager under IDE settings, didn’t work. To get this thing to work, i had to type “diskmgmt.msc” into the search bar, then right click and run as adminstrator. When disk managment popped up, it asked me to initialize the disk, so i did, with GPT, and it still wouldn’t show up in file explorer. Finally i figured out that when i right clicked the white ace to the right of “Disk1” which is what it was named, i got an option for New Simple Volume, clicked that and did the short wizard, it let me format the disk and I got the notification “New Drive Discovered”…. I hope it’s plug and play for everyone else, but if not, this is what worked for me, don’t bother with the AHCI stuff, you just need to initialize/format it.

This is a great ssd and quite frankly all 5 of them if bout from here are great I keep buying them not only because that are cheap but that are reliable and the combination of SLC and MLC architecture makes this ssd snapy and cost effective at the same time shur it’s no Samsung but it’s price tag is no that of Samsung’s either I would decently recommend this product for every budget pc build or just to breath a bit of life into any old desktop or laptop that files a bit sluggish the conversation from mechanical to flash is literally one of the best performance increasing upgrade one can make and this product give you a cost effective option so u don’t need to break the bank but still get less than 5 second boot times over all I am very happy with this and I will be purchasing several more

I’m running 4 of the 256GB drives in RAID 0 as my secondary game drive. It was easy to set up through windows disk management. Then just create a striped partition and pick the drives you want to put in the RAID. Cheap, easy to install just wish it came with screws. Took me longer to find the screws than the install.

My previous SSD was Gigabyte NAND 240 GB, which was working great for sometime, then it started giving a weird problem, system partition get deleted automatically resulting windows failed to boot or boot drive not found messages. I have no clue why was it happening, formatted my pc several times due to this issue, then I decided to buy new SSD, so I bought this. But unfortunately my problem was not solved as this new Starlite Scuda SSD giving the same problem as I have mentioned above. Besides that its a great affordable SSD, performance is really great, boot time is only 8 second. However, only 476 GB is usable out of 512 GB, almost 36 GB is compromised, I wonder where it’s being used.

This SSD can’t be beat. 256GB at this price point is a STEAL!!!! I got this to upgrade my son’s PC along with additional memory and a 1080 HD webcam in prep for virtual school (due to Covid-19). This SSD has been performing flawlessly, and is a nice eed upgrade from a traditional HDD. I used free online software to clone the existing HDD to this SSD. I didn’t use the software that comes with the SSD (there is a link to download their software). The SSD formatted and is now a perfect clone of the original HDD. It has been working great so far. No complaints here! If I need another SSD upgrade, I’ll be looking to these guys again!

Just finished the install. Never got the provided by link software to work. Could download and install, but would never open. No reonse from the software tech assistance on Christmas. Ended up using Macrium Reflect on a free 30 day trial. 1 hr 35 min 19 sec later, clone complete. Swapped out drives and restarted. Holy crap, I am not disappointed! Booted up super fast, even with it recognizing a change to the system. Everything is fast, and it exceeded my expectations. My laptop’s HDD was ticking, meaning its existence was slowly creeping down the dark corridor toward its end. I searched high and low for an inexpensive replacement and decided to try an SSD. The eed blew me away, because I’ve never had an SSD before. Windows 10 boots up — and is usable — within seconds. There are very rare and random occurrences of the laptop locking up for a few seconds (only happened twice in the 3 months I’ve had it), but that could be software, although it never happened on the HDD. As with any storage device you don’t get the full 256gb, but there is still plenty of storage for everything I need my laptop to do.

Have been using budget SSDs for a while now on lower end hardware. I still get giddy at how much an SSD can take an aging PC and give it new life. Used this to upgrade an office machine with a basic mechanical drive and the difference is astonishing. My go to drive cloning software is macrium reflect, its free and does its job while the system is running so little to no loss in productivity. If you want to upgrade do it just keep in mind that backups are always a good idea and simple jump drive can save you loads of hassle if one of these budget SSDs dies “unexpectedly”.

I downloaded the recommended cloning software NTI Echo and used the key on the SSD to install it. I started the cloning process and it said it was complete. Well, now I can neither boot the computer with the old hard drive or with the SSD. In both cases, it goes into a loop where I can choose to either continue the cloning process or reboot with Windows. Neither option works. Have tried various solutions and BIOS settings. So now we’re out a computer. I have contacted their support (email option only) and will see what they say.

I am a small local computer shop that has been in business for over 10 years. I have been upgrading customer’s computers with SSDs for really the last 4 years now and I have a crate of these that have all failed. I have purchased over 1000 SSDs in the last year where half of them were Starlite Scuda and the other half bigger brand names. In the last 12 months I have had more than 25% of the Starlite Scuda drives come back to me DOA. Where I have had maybe 1 or 2 bigger name brand drives come back to me only FAILING not completely dead. I know I am a small sample size but that failure rate is terrible. Yes, they might work fine for half a year or right when you pull it out of the box and write your review of only owning the product for 1 day. I have been waiting to write this review to let some time pass to think it was a fluke but to this day I am still getting these drives back. Their RMA process is awful and at this point I would not want more of these drives.Thanks

I have been buying Starlite Scuda SSDs for years and this was my first time trying the 1TB drive but I have been superbly pleased with it so far. Of all the drives I have owned, I haven’t had one of them fail on me yet. This was a nice way to end a relatively small amount of money to breath life into my somewhat-aged desktop computer.

I have used SSD of this brand before, and with reasonable success. Therefore, I was comfortable purchasing this one. Although I did not clock the eed, the transfer eed is very good. One negative feature of this SSD was that it comes “not-initiated”, and thus the BIOS has a hard time recognizing it. This flaw turned out to be a minor one after taking a couple of detours and “initiating” the SSD before installing it. Afterward, the SSD ran smoothly. Not a major issue, although it was an unexpected annoyance.

This is my 5th SATA SSD in 3 years. I have used them in personal laptops, family/friend PCs and a work PC. Are they the best drives on the market? No. They aren’t intended to be. That said, for the average PC, they are a solid drive and I have no complaints at the price point. They certainly perform better than the slightly higher priced Kingston SSDs.Pros:-Price-Stability-Ease of install/transferCons:-No DRAM cache (wouldn’t expect at this price point)-Plastic housing is cheap. Unless you carry bare drives around a lot for some random reason, it doesn’t matter.

I originally went with because it was less expensive than the alternatives – now I just really like them (it does help that they are still cheap)! Have not had any issues with any of them yet but I do still have a couple in package. Its not a Samsung when it comes to eed, but its more than adequate (aka its awesome) for everything I do. I do light gaming, audio editing, and a whole lot of internet browsing/online shopping… so I am like most people. the eed boost to my existing machine was out of this world (swapping from 2.5″ 5400rpm drive).

After receiving the SSD I placed it in my SABRENT USB hard disk docking station. I put my failing drive into the HDD1 slot and this new SSD into the HDD2 slot. I used the auto cloning feature of the SABRENT Dock to clone the failing drive to the old drive. It took about four hours but every thing worked. I placed the SSD into my laptop and powered up. After updating the CMOS to the new drive and rebooting I noticed Windows 7 booted in 20 seconds. Everything about the laptop is faster. I am a very satisfied customer. I am ordering the same SSD today for my Windows 7 tower.

I had no experience with as far as I knew until I went to upgrade a laptop I had been using and found it had a smaller version of this one. Having been trouble-free, I chose to get the 1TB version of the same SSD. In a time of tight budgets every dollar counts. Our company has a bunch of older PCs that have slowed over the years and we needed to find a way to upgrade without having to purchase new units. As the PCs are only used as workstations doing mostly cloud based applications or MS Office programs we didn’t need too much. I decided to buy a few of these drives to replace the aged 3.5 inch HDDs. WOW these SSDs were just what the doctor ordered! I have now converted over a dozen PCs to these drives and everyone is happy with the results. I am not sure if this is what you would want for gaming but definitely a good buy for work PCs or even thin client rigs.

I’ve bought 3 of these over the last year or so as boot-OS drive upgrades for the PCs in our household, all within about 6 months of each other and was quite happy over most of the 1st year running them. Although these were inexpensive and seemingly great quality out of the gate, 1 catastrophically failed just before a year of use and now a second under about same level of use as the 1st, has failed inexplicably, not so coincidentally also around the year mark judging by similar reviews from other customers. I immediately, shut that PC down and rushed to fetch a replacement after learning the hard lesson about these on the 1st one that failed very bruptly. Buyer beware that these seem to be failing after only a year of what I consider light to moderate use, most certainly not heavy use, and when they do offer almost no symptomatic warning nor time to waste on replacement, cloning, and/or backing up the drive data/image, etc. I lost everything I had on the 1st that failed myself. I strongly suggest keeping up to date backups if you plan on using any of these type SSDs as a sole and/or primary drive. I would not recommend that gamble though…

I am absolutely loving this quick and quit SSD. If you are not familiar with an SSD they are much more like a very fast SD card more then a mechanical drive. My system boots much faster and I still use an 8TB external drive for most of my storage, but using this as my boot drive is just awesome. I couldn’t be happier with this little drive and the price blows other SSDs away. For anyone interested I recommend using a free software called Maricum Reflect Free if you are transferring an old boot drive to this SSD. It worked flawlessly and on the first try in my Windows 10 system.

Quick and easy installation. Size of the drive is great and its really nice not having to worry about the issues you usually have with a HD like the head alignment and cylinder issues. Review is for the Starlite Scuda SLC SSD DrivesI own a Computer and Electronics Repair shop and I have purchased over 100 of these so far.I have received 0 DOA itemsI’ve had to service/repair/replace 0 of them.I have not had one single issue with these drives.I cannot say the same for the other big name brands that cost twice as much.They are not the fastest drives but the price/performance ratio makes them worth it. You will never notice the difference in eed.

It may not be stellar eed compared to higher-end SSD drives but adding a 1TB SSD storage drive (not boot) for under $100 is amazing, I couldn’t be happier with the purchase! I’m moving my gaming files to this drive and I have not noticed any performance differences from my EVO SSDs, great value!!!

After playing on my Series X and then going back to my Xbox One X showed me just how slow the Xbox One X is with a mechanical drive. I had to change the hard drive to an SSD because it was unbearable. This SSD is great for the price and fits perfectly. My Xbox One X boots and loads games so much faster! The console should have shipped with an SSD from the start because it really does the console justice. Now it loads games almost as fast as the Series X. Almost…… Get one if you have an old Xbox. You need this!

I got this to eed up an older laptop that no longer gets moved around but does get turned on and off frequently. I wanted a faster boot time and it definitely worth it. It ed the boot up time by about 60%. The apps and programs that I have installed on the drive are also noticeably more reonsive. The drive image utility was also a noteworthy bonus. It’s simple and quick. Perfect for a straightforward clone if you don’t need anything more advanced. I will definitely buy another one.

I switched out the 500GB hard drive in my MacBook Pro (2012) with this SSD. Cloning the old drive and setting up the new one went very smoothly with no hitches. I was already familiar with removing the bottom plate, having upgraded the memory to 8GB. Even with the increased memory, it had been slowing down significantly. It improved the performance quite a lot. Startup, shutdown, and working with files are much faster now. The ultimate quality question won’t be answered until I find out how long it holds up.

About a month in, and no issues. Installation was easy, cloning the HD was another story. The Echo 3 software you can download free of charge with purchase just produces a broken link (the activation code is on the HDD), but there are multiple other software programs out there that work. Brought life to my old dell laptop, and quick storage.

I inherited a Dell Iniron 530 which was about to be donated to Goodwill, release date of 2008 ( 12 years old )Bone stock! Intel Core 2 Duo , I flashed the BIOS to the latest Ver 1.0.18 so I can max the RAM to 8 GB, added a $20 Nvidia Quadro video card, a WiFi card and now this SSD. It worked out perfectly , it’s just like having a new desktop, from OFF to complete boot up is 38 seconds, BTW I’m still running Windows 7 Pro.

I”ve installed this brand before and had zero issues at the time. However this time installing on a client’s mac, i had problems installing a brand new Mac OS. Two hours later after many attemps, I tried a brand new SSD I found I had (Samsung). It worked fine, which led me to conclude the issues were being caused by this Starlite Scuda SSD. My unit was funky (a lemon). I had to return it. Just in case, rather than replace it with the exact same one, I decided to not risk a failure and ordered a different brand SSD. I suect a Quality Control problem. Too bad, as the price point is good.

Got this with a new Ryzen 1700, motherboard, and 16gb of ram to replace my original 5400rpm boot HDD from 2009.My startup time went from over 1.5 minutes to down around 25 seconds. As soon as I login to my windows account, I’m able to launch programs, and actually use them, whereas before, I had to wait at least another couple minutes, even just to open Google chrome with <5 tabs.No idea who Starlite Scuda is, and I took a leap on the purchase. So far, it’s been a month or longer, and still have had no issues, so consider me satisfied

It seems to work great. Is rated faster reads and writes than my other SSD’s but I don’t notice the difference. All I can tell you is that SSD’s are wonderful compared to old mechanical hard drives. They take up a lot less room in your PC, they run a lot cooler than mechanical hard drives and are a lot faster on boot-up. As far as life of an SSD, I can only tell you that my oldest is about 5 years and have never had a problem with it or any other that I have bought.

Highly recommended product.Update 5/15/2021: After purchasing a total of 9 storage products a total of 2 have prematurely failed. The first one worked erratically out of the box and ultimately failed after 1 month of usage. The second failure happened after installing windows 10 on a computer and storing it for about 1 year. When the laptop was taken out of storage it would not boot. The culprit was the SSD.The other SDDs I purchased are still working great. I think I got hit with two cases of infant mortality. I will update again if I get any more failures.

On some computers we made an image and some were fresh install of windows. We have had these drives now going on 2 years and zero problems. I’ve had a Linux ZFS NAS for a long time… I decided to add this 512 GB SSD as a SLOG (ZIL) Cache…So all writes go to the SSD before touching the inning disks.I back up my VMs to this ZFS Pool via NFS. Backups took 3.45 hours to complete. After adding this SSDit now takes 17 minutes to complete the entire backup! I ran it 3 times in a row. The same results I shook my head in amazement. I have bought 3 of these to put in 3 different computers. Unfortunately, one was getting bad sectors and data corruption so I exchanged it with Starlite Scuda after a year into the warranty. The other ones have been working great. It’s not the fastest SSD, but for most people it’s fine. These cheap SSDs are good for upgrading old computers off of hard-drives and into something much faster but not so expensive because investing a ton of money into 10 year old computers doesn’t make sense.

For an OS drive it’s fine for light users, would look into something a little better for anyone who does anything more though but at the end of the day it’s still going to be a major upgrade from a basic HDD.They keep lowering the prices and I keep buying them. This are the after results:514MB/s read eed and 477 MB/s write eeds for seq Q32T1181 MB/s read and 300MB/s write for 4K Q8T8179 MB/s read and 163 MB/s write for 4K Q32T120.34 MB/s read and 12.38 MB/s write for 4K Q1T1Also testing with UserBenchmark Software result that my drive is performing as expected before it was in the 17% lowest percentile. So great improvement.

I directly copied over my O.S. (Operating system) from a mechanical Hard drive (HD) to the SSD using Macrium Reflect. The boot time of Windows 10 / 64-bit is never “eedy” {even with the SSD – about 20-25 seconds from BIOS logo to windows login}.The noticeable eed difference will come when you launch bulky applications like: Photoshop, games, photos, etc. Boot time will vary depending on different factors.The Starlite Scuda SDD eeds are the same as the Samsun 860 EVO 1TB (Up to 550/520MB/s seq read/write eeds). My tests are showing A55-1TB Starlite Scudae SSD with 550/440MB/s (screenshot posted with this review). My eeds are not tested with an “Empty” drive the A55/SSD was tested with a fully functioning OS on it (20% of the drive filled during testing). This is a fast drive at a reasonable price.IF, anything should occur with the hard drive over a period of time I will return to update this review (if possible). I am using three different variants of the Starlite Scudae SSD: 1TB, 480GB, and 256GB. (desktop, laptop, desktop) All three SSD drives are meeting or exceeding their competition’s eeds.A note to all Windows users, please change your advance settings / hard disk timeout in your control panel unless you don’t care about very noticeable lag ikes when you open or launch applications/documents. This is under “control panel”, top right search box type “power”, left window “Edit power plan”. “Change advanced power settings”, Expand “Hard disk” by clicking on the + symbol to the left of it. Click on the + symbol to the left of “turn off hard disk after”, click on “Setting” change to 0 minutes. (do this for M.2/NVME/SSD) otherwise you will wonder why your higheed drive is acting “slow”.UPDATE: I have now purchased about 5 Starlite Scuda SSD (2.5) drives. ALL 5 are still working very well 5 months in. I have done eed tests on a few of them every month (I have multiple sizes: 256, 512, 480, 1TB) The speeds are stable. Meaning you will get a slight variation (either faster or slow) in the speed test numbers but nothing dramatic. If you are concerned about data loss, get a second hard drive (mechanical if you wish). Go get Macrium Reflect, home edition, and you can make a direct copy of your OS boot drive into an image file. Macrium is a UK based software company that has powerful free (home edition) software. YouTube has wonderful videos on how to do this, very simple. Remember to buy a USB stick (2GB more than enough) to make a media boot for recovery purposes.

I believe these are excellent drives, I purchased them when the price was much higher over a year ago, but it was still the best all around deal on 1TB SSDs. I have 8x of these in two AKiTiO Thunderbolt 3 Bays with SoftRAID 1+0 and the volume produces 1308MB/s read and 1138MB/s write eed on the hosting iMac Pro. They have over 10,500 hours of use and roughly 415,500,000 I/O requests for each disk, and there has not been a single I/O error with over a year of constant use. I use these bays to store the network home directories for my company’s OpenDirectory users and the TimeMachine backups for all my company’s Mac’s, so performance is a must and so is reliability. I paired the bays in RAID10 for extra reliability, but as we are in need of more storage I’m planning to buy 4 more and I will put the new volume in RAID0 configuration as these SSDs have proved their reliability to me.

SSD are fine. They are okay as for a ssd as you can get for the price. The drive itself is fast enough for my use (external usb 3 docks). However when I purchased my last one I got one used. It was well packaged as it looked to be new, though info on the ssd showed it had 4T read and 1.8T written to. 99.7% life. It works fine though. But selling an obvious used one for new … My first purchase was brand new never used. So take a chance, for the price it’s not bad.

After installing two of these drives, I can say that the installation and reliability has been great.The only reason I’m not giving this drive 5 stars is because it does not seem to copy files as fast at it should for being an SSD drive.After paying only $35 in May 2019, I’m very happy that this cheap of an upgrade breathed new life into an otherwise sluggish 2010 MacBook Pro and a practically unusable 2007 MBP.The two Mac laptops I upgraded with this drive are:MacBook Pro 13″ Mid-2010Installed High Sierra.MacBook Pro 15″ Late-2007Installed El Capitan.The drives fit snugly into both of these laptops and the T6 screw swapout from the old drive went smoothly.Applications on both (yes, even the 2007 model) launch within a few seconds (see the videos for the MBP 2010), whereas with the old inning hard drives, their age and limitations were making running basic apps painfully slow.Boot up takes only about 30 seconds on both computers and previously I had to wait 2 minutes or more before the desktop was loaded on the 2007 model.I followed the iFixIt Guides to replace both drives and the step by step visual guide made it very easy to open the laptop cases.Prior to doing these upgrades, I had only ever upgraded RAM in a mac laptop or slotted in a new CD burner into a PC desktop (and both of those upgrades are less of a hurdle for someone unaccustomed to computer hardware upgrades). The harder part is working with commands in the Terminal app if something throws an error or other stumbling block.If you are running a laptop does not already have an SSD drive, I can say with confidence that making the upgrade will not only drastically improve your performance and experience using the computer, but it will also allow to to run the newest OS your machine supports, without making big sacrifices.I also run a desktop PC with Windows 8 and if you are trying to keep an old PC laptop alive, an SSD drive is a no brainer to ensure you can run a modern OS without huge performance issues. For PCs the same rule of thumb applies, an SSD is the best cheapest upgrade you can make.

2.5″ SSD drive:It’s not very consistent and will break in performance. You can clearly see this with gaming and video editing.Gaming: the fps will fluctuate very low when loading new areas of the map. This is the result of the drive trying to read the new zones and let the video card produce the graphics.Video editing: the timer on the editing goes up and down dramatically. It’s not consistent and I’ve done nothing but watch the video recording in progress.Samsung magician shows the benchmarks go up and down with read and write eeds.File transfer shows the same issue when moving large files from nvme to ssd.NVME SSD:It’s the perfect drive out there. I ditched my old 960 Evo 256gb for this. It boots faster. Transfer files faster. Edit videos faster. Literally everything faster (including breaking down faster than the 960 Evo).Why it breaks down faster? TLC have a much shorter lifean than MLC. However, that time it takes to use up all the read and write on the SSD would be in the years. By then, a newer technology will arrive.

Bought this 512GB SSD to replace my old 120GB SSD on my MacBook Pro Mid 2010. I had mod my MBP 2010 to hold a hard drive in the optical bay, so once I insert the new 512 GB Starlite Scuda drive, the process was easy cloning over from the old 120GB ssd.Large compacity drive for a great inexpensive price. Don’t think I could have kept my MBP 2010 this long without the SSD.High Sierra OS will ask you to initialize the drive. Once you click on ‘initialize’, disk utilities will pop up. Click on the new drive. Parition option won’t be available. Click on ‘erase drive’. This will erase the drive and initialized.

I use this drive as my mass-storage on my pc, for games and game clips, works flawlessly. Installation was a breeze on my H210i, as most 2.5 drives are. Had no problems with it, there are faster drives out there but they are noticably more expensive and the performance difference is negligible. Would Reccomend this product to anyone in the market for a new game drive or would work fine for a boot drive as well, but I’ll always reccomend an M.2 drive for your OS and games if you can afford it.

I get about 500MB/Sec on this using a SATA3 connection. This is quite slow for an SSD in 2018. However, if you are wanting to upgrade from a inning disk, you will still see an incredible eed increase. Even at 500MB/Sec, it’s still almost 50 times faster than your average old hard drive. That. Is. A. Lot.In comparison, I also have a Samsung EVO 500GB SSD which gets 4GB/Sec. Yes, it is 8 times faster than this drive, and only cost twice as much.I bought this drive for cheap storage to load up on games. So far it has handled exceptionally well as a Steam drive, while my OS and primary games are on the Samsung.Great price, iffy performance. That said, it installed in a few seconds in Windows 10 and didn’t have to do anything other than make a partition and format it. Easy.

I just received and installed this today, and have moved PUBG, BF4, BF1, Star Wars BF2 (new one) and Titanfall 2 onto this drive, as well as some other programs. This is my upgrade from a 1 TB WD Black HDD from a few years ago. Load times for all of those games has decreased by half (approximation) and there is much less texture pop-in as well as less stutters. I know its not the highest performing drive, but for the money, I am in love and getting a second one soon.

It’s important to enable AHCI mode to get full eeds with this drive. Crystal disk mark resulted in 440MB/s read and 470MB/s write eeds. Much better than what other reviews have show, they were likely running in IDE mode. For $30 this is a great buy

Great improvement over my internal laptop hard drive. The only bad thing is that it drains my laptop faster due to the higher power consumption. For some reason I thought that the lack of moving parts would result in less power consumption compared to a traditional hard drive, but at least I learned something new. On the other hand it’s so much faster, so things are getting done faster. Works with Apple products, too. I tried it in a 2012 MacBook Pro and it feels like a new laptop. Highly recommended. Also do yourself a favor and buy an external 2.5″ hard drive enclosure so you can reuse the old hard drive as an external drive. Those are sold for $9 and worth every cent.

I was in the market for an SSD, nothing too big, as I just wanted to install my OS as well as one or two games. The physical install into my case was easy, just needed to locate some of the case screws as there are no screws included with the SSD. The software install was not bad, although it took time for me to iron out which SSD/HDD slot needed to be prioritized first (first SSD install so beginner mistakes are bound to happen).For the purpose of this review, I will talk about one of the games I installed on this SSD: Assassin Creed: Origins. AC:Origin’s load times were cut down by a good amount, I’m not sure of the exact timing, but enough to load in-between fast travel points within 12-17 seconds. This, compared to having the game installed on my Western Digital 1TB 7200rpm drive, was a much pleasant gaming experience as I didn’t have to wait too long when fast traveling. Looking at this price point, this drive is a great buy, eecially if it is one of your first ones and you are working within a budget. If you’re looking to cut down fast travel load times even more, then I suggest considering a faster SSD.

This thing is nice. Performance is about what you would expect, mostly limited by the SATA interface. Obviously this thing can’t compete with an m.2 ssd, but it beats using a hard drive. Personally I’m thrilled to see ssd’s coming down to a price where you could reasonably build a computer without hdd’s.Overall decent item. Reasonable performance and good capacity for the price.

Replacing the HDD in my Acer One Aire Netbook with this SSD was the best thing I have done in a long time. The netbook came with Win 7 and was reasonably reonsive. Over time I upgraded to Win 10 and performance was terrible. I didn’t use it much over time and then last March decided to put Win 7 back. With Microsoft planning to withdraw support for Win 7 next year it was either stay with unsupported Win 7 or figure out how to get Win 10 performance improved. I felt sure the weak link was the HDD so I started searching the internet to see what I would have to do to replace the HDD with a SSD. Other models of the netbook had the bottom panel attached with four screws but my model required removing the keyboard to get to the screws holding the bottom panel. There were several videos showing how to do it and they made it look so simple but releasing the clips holding the keyboard just wasn’t working for me. Finally I combined the methods shown in three videos, got aggressive and finally got it released.. That gave me access to four screws holding the bottom panel and once I got it off access to the HDD was easy. I did not order the SSD until I was sure I could get to the HDD. The HDD replacement with the SSD was simple as well as putting things back together. One note – I followed the instructions and released the clamp holding the keyboard ribbon cable so I could set the keyboard aside and not damage the cable. Putting that ribbon cable back aligned so all the keys worked properly turned to to be a slight problem. There isn’t much room to position the ribbon properly into it’s connector and I had to try three times before all of the keys worked properly. I believe If a person is careful the job can be done without disconnecting the ribbon cable. One other thing to consider is the size of the SSD if you plan to install the OS with a system image restore. I started to get a 240GB SSD which would be plenty large enough for this netbook but I happened to recall that system image restore requires a drive of the same size or larger than the one it was made on. In this case the HDD was 250GB so the 240GB SDD would not have worked with the system image restore. Thus I changed and got this 256GB SSD for the same price.Even tho this netbook’s disk controller is stage two at 3Gb/s which impedes the SSD eed of 6Gb/s the performance improvement over the HDD is fantastic. Everything that was a snails pace with Win 10 and the HDD is now exponentially faster. I went through a hefty learning curve figuring mout how to get to the HDD but now that the SSD in in and running I am SO glad I did it. Otherwise this netbook would be on the shelf or in the recycle bin.

I have an old laptop for use at home. At the moment I really cannot afford a new computer. But my laptop is 10 years old, and slow. What to do?! One way to eed up your old computer significantly is by upgrading from an HDD to an SSD. As far as I have read, it’s the best way to upgrade computer performance. I thought I’d try it.I was skeptical, eecially when I first got it, because it was light weight compared to any disc drive I have ordered in the past. I’d never ordered an Solid State. The physical installation was easy; it is a standard size laptop drive. But I was still skeptical because for 256GB it is a good price.I ended up cloning my old hard drive to this new one, and after a few bumps and bruises (my own cloning understanding issues) I was able to get the image off of my HDD to this SSD.First boot? It was brilliant! I booted my computer and was delightfully pleased. It’s fast. It boots into Windows 10 with lightning eed. It makes my laptop feel like a new computer. I’m excited about this purchase and about being able to run Windows and Linux without the frustrating latency. I feel like I have a new computer. I haven’t benchmarked the eeds yet, and I may not have to, because the reonse time is so much better for me that I am pleased regardless. I’d definitely recommend this drive.

I put it in and used my licensed copy of Acronis to restore a backup to it and it was set. No messing around with partitioning of adding a master boot sector. It’s working great.This replaced another SSD that’s several years old that the laptop diagnostics said was bad. It was a considerably more expensive drive that was about the same size. The new drive is every bit as fast as the old more expensive drive.

I bought this drive because the main drive on my computer had a melt down. Actually Windows 10 had a melt down. I wanted to install a fresh copy of Win 10 but I did not want to lose the data on the drive. This drive has worked great so far. So far my Windows boots much faster than my old SATA drive. I am using a restored HP Z400 Workstation. It’s great for games and videos. I just cannot upgrade to Windows 11 on it.

I almost forget that I have this thing except that I run out of ace a lot faster than I did on my 1 TB hard drives that I used previously. That’s nothing against the drive, I just loaded it up with extra stuff for fun (and to see how long it would take under semi-normal use).Only downside I had was trying to get it installed in my computer, but that’s just my fault for not getting the right adapter for it (I have a desktop PC, as opposed to a laptop).

UPDATE: 10/20/2019TL;DR: amazing bang for your buck SSD if you are lucky enough to get one that lasts. Good Warranty replacement if it does die. Don’t put anything important on it.I’ve had this since May of 2018 and it finally died on me a few weeks ago. I first started noticing problems about a year after I got this SSD. My PS4 would continuously crash and stop working correctly. This only happened on very large games like Conan exiles, red dead redemption, Apex. At first I thought it was a heat issue so every time my game crashed I cleaned it out.Turns out it was an SSD failure. One day I booted up my PS4 and it wasn’t detecting the hard drive anymore. I ent about two days trying to troubleshoot the issue, but since I don’t have a are PS4 and the SSD is formatted in exFat you cant read it with a laptop ( or at least I never found a way to read it). Popping in a other hard drive to my PS4 and rebuilding it confirmed to me that this SSD was bad.On the bright side, they have a pretty decent warranty. Kind of a pain to get an RMA because you have to go to the website, register your account and input all your information into a form. Once that is done you have to package your SSD, pay for it to ship to California to their repair Depot and wait like a month for it to come back. In this case, I’m pretty sure the techs their ran into the same problem I did so they just sent me a new one back free of charge. I haven’t taken the new one out of the box yet. Maybe my luck will be better this time around. Id say for gaming, this does okay. Just make sure your save files are saved on the cloud or backed up somewhere. Don’t put anything important in it._________________________________________Original Review: This product seems to jump in price between $85-$99 dollars, but for an SSD of this size you can’t beat the price.Bought this to use in my base PS4. It’s less than $100, 512GB and I didn’t want to to end too much money on a SSD in my PS4. While the PS4 can’t use SATA 3, I do notice that everything is running much smoother, mainly the main menu and home screen no longer lags. Monster Hunter World also seems to load about three times as fast, which is nice.Setting this up in the PS4 is a whole different issue, however. You need to format it in either exFat or FAT32 format or else it won’t read.If you are buying this to use in the PS4 comment down below and I can help you out. Took me about three hours to set everything up because Sony’s knowledge base makes it hard to find information.This product seems to behave just like any normal SSD and I have no problems with it. I didn’t do any Crystal Mark testing but if you are short on cash and want a good SSD to use you can’t go wrong with this.

After thorough benchmarking, it turns out that when this drive is at 50% or more capacity, it does something no other SSD (WD Blue, Crucial MX500, Samsung) does. It causes hang ups in game loading as the drive “attempts” to access its data. Mind you, this is benchmarking testing that I do, not the typical end user install-uninstall-tons-of-random-apps-over-a-year kind of use. I download everything in one go so fragmentation is not, and never should be, a huge performance factor loss for SSDs. I kid you not, ONLY on this SSD do games take just as long to load from a WD 5200rpm HDD, or LONGER. When I did the same testing on Western Digital, Samsung and Crucial 1TB SATA SSDs, they had no issue loading games within seconds, often under 15-20 seconds. On this drive, however, games such as F1 2018 and BFV took over a minute to load into the game. To add insult to injury, quitting the session to return to main menus resulted in another 30+ seconds of loading, while all other brands load instantly into the menu. All system drivers and patches were identical on my test bench. The only difference was this SSD. I don’t know what this company does to shave off $20 from competitors, but IT IS NOT WORTH IT for gaming. I am literally ordering a new SSD from Samsung because I refuse to allow this POS SSD tarnish a build for my next customer. I had an aging Toshiba Satellite laptop sitting around that was getting ready to be retired. It would take several minutes to start up and 30+ seconds to open a program like notepad. In less than 5 minutes I had installed the SSD and about 20 more minutes to install Windows and it feels like a new laptop again. Windows loads in about 10 seconds and programs open almost instantly. I can confidently say going from a hard drive to a SSD is the biggest performance upgrade you can do to any PC and with the price of SSD’s I would highly recommend to anyone. Before you upgrade MAKE SURE TO HAVE A COPY OF WINDOWS, either a disk or make a USB drive and also copy your activation key just in case you need it to activate the new copy of Windows.

UPDATE 5/29/18:In order to rule out the issue with SSD, I moved it to another system, and it runs at advertised eeds (if not a little higher). I am consistently seeing ~540-545/500MB/s Read/Write eeds on an AM1 system with Sempron 2650 and/or Athlon 5150 25W TDP CPU.Looks like the issue was with the ASMedia SATA3 controller on the original motherboard that was causing the performance issue even though it was paired with an AMD FX-6300 CPU. I am very happy and fully recommend this SSD now.ORIGINAL REVIEW:Actual Read/Write eeds are nowhere near advertised eeds on an MSI 760GMA-P34(FX). After running at least 2-3 ATTO benchmarks, AS SSD, and Toolbox from vendor results in okay performance compared to advertised eeds.I was getting consistent Read/Write 405/350MB/s in ATTO versus 550/450MB/s according to Starlite Scuda’s advertised eed based on ATTO benchmarks. In addition, it is even worse when you look at Toolbox and AS SSD results, which indicate similar performance, but nowhere near advertised eeds.Based on my results, I may decide to return this as it does not meet my expectations.
