I have purchased and used Silicon Power products for a couple of years now. I have never had a bad ssd drive or flash drive. They benchmark well and never run hot, like other brands that I have bought in the past. I used their products in my business builds as well as for my personal use. And their prices are always great !

Price to value ratio is spot on. Without a DRAM chip, the disk is not as fast for random information reading or writing. You will need to spend more money to get this feature on a different product.

Old laptop went from borderline frustrating to a usable experience. I got tired of having to wait for files to show themselves in my folders and the length of time it took to open programs as well as boot the OS. If you’re trying to stretch your money and keep an old laptop alive its worth considering for the responsiveness alone.

It’s SLC so will last very very long and for the price of 4999 it was really a fantastic deal. But for 6500 I would pick crucial 500GB anytime instead of this. Crucial is a bit better in consistent performance and professional use.

The SP 512GB SSD 3D NAND A55 SLC was bought teen weeks ago, still running smooth without any issue. Seem like it is not a 512 Gb, as my Windows 11 reports only 478 GB storage, still wondering why?????!!!! My assessment is the item seems good quality with cheap price for budget buyer; but the time will tell the quality of the product. By the way beware, technical support does not exist. Tried to install their utility SW from their web site for my SSD, It did not work. Requested for guidance and instruction, it has been three weeks, but no response from them as yet. That made me SAD. Dedicated support do not exist, only email (WOW, no good). If your item fails prior to 3 , there is no one to reach out, and you will be out of luck. This is one of the BAD part. Do not TRUST what they said on their website or on the product label. Thanks.Update: After I posted my review, I have received a response (after 30days) from the vendor support, and provided me a link to download, and use a third party utility SW for their device. The link directed to an old SW published on 4/2020; but the new version of the SW now is dated 12/3/2022. Wow!!! what a support!!!Update 3/26/2023: This SSD is not 512GB storage as advertised. This has been verified by multiple tools including SP’s own utility. This is misleading advertisement.

Ok, here is my latest review of this product I have installed over 80 of these now after a year in service I have had 1 drive a year old just die it kept getting slower and slower, and block errors began to rise then windows would freeze, I was unable to repair this drive. The good part is I was able to recover the data and replace the drive, I did not warranty the drive though Silicon-Power because them being over seas it seemed like more of a hassle then just getting my client a new drive. So to date I have had 1 drive bad out of the box and 1 die in the first year, that is not a bad record. Unless of course its your data.

With SSD’s getting cheaper and cheaper I decided to get this one to add to my rig to increase my SSD storage for gaming as I currently have a NVMe 1TB drive for my operating system and part of my game collection but it is fast filling up. I bought the modest 256GB version here and while it is a bit slower in sequential read/write times (almost 66% slower according to CrystalDiskMark) that was expected since the NVMe is on a PCI x4. This drive was under $30 when I bought it, I had a similar SSD installed on my laptop years ago and it cost me a few hundred and was only actually about 200GB in total. With prices falling like they are for Solid State storage its nice to snag an inexpensive storage expansion option that is reliable and quick.Had no issues with Windows 10 recognizing the drive, though I did have to go into Disk Manager in order to set the Drive Letter the way I wanted and to initialize the partition so I could write files to it.

Improved Performance with Minor Issue – see description for details.
I installed this product to speed up my computer, and it definitely delivered on that front. However, I did notice that when loading certain programs like games or Photoshop, the mouse cursor lags for a few seconds before returning to normal. I’m not exactly sure what’s causing this issue, but it’s not a dealbreaker for me.Overall, I’m happy with the product and would give it 4 stars.

Got this for my gaming pc that I bought off a friend. He used his old drive, so I had to get a new one and install it in the old build he sold me. Decided to go with all SSD because for 1TB, the price of this wasn’t bad at all. Boots super fast and was recognized by the motherboard, etc right away. No problems installing windows to it. Drive speeds are fast and I haven’t noticed any slow down of anything due to the drive itself. It doesn’t have the absolute highest speeds for sata SSD, but for this price, the speeds are great! I’ve been using it for about 2 weeks so far, so I can’t say anything on the longevity of it, but I’ll update if anything changes. Doesn’t seem to get too hot or anything either. I was originally looking at a Samsung EVO 860 at first because of how reliable and good reputation Samsung has and I was a bit worried to get such a smaller named SSD, but so far, I really don’t have any complaints. And this was at least $50-60 cheaper than the Samsung one.
Akash RanaAkash Rana –
Excellent value for money
I won’t call this the fastest SATA SSD around, but got it for Rs. 4400 during the sale which puts it way cheaper that anything else for a TLC drive and it shows decent performance for the money. After filling the drive to about 65%, there was no degradation in the read/write speeds. When compared to Crucial BX500, it was little slower for an empty drive; but once filled the performance on BX500 drops on the write speeds. Its a good drive for anyone upgrading from a HDD or as a game drive as moving up to NVME for gaming has little merit.

This SSD runs pretty well for the price. I am not really a person who notices the minor difference in boot times between SSDs, but from a normal drive to this SSD there was a significant change in boot time. It usually takes between 10 to 15 seconds to boot up. The installation for this drive physically is not too bad and the installation of the operating system is very smooth. It doesn’t take too long to install windows 7-10 on it. When opening files and/or programs this drive does it fairly quickly and does not heat up too much. The only issue I have is I feel like the material is very weak. It had minor scratches on the casing and dents from just basic installation. You could easily bend the drive if you wanted with very little force. Overall the performance of the drive is great. I have absolutely not issues with the drive speed or performance. It a great replacement for a good price.

UPDATE: 1 Year 2 months later. The one used as a boot drive started dying. CrystalMark reports 97% drive health, but response times are consistently in the hundreds of milliseconds (as opposed to under 1ms) and sometimes as high as 15000ms (yes, 15 seconds!), even if the drive is less than 45% filled. Random read/writes fell from above 50Mb/s to as low as 0.4. This would cause the entire system to freeze for several seconds. Worse than an HDD. Thankfully all my data is present and I could clone to a replacement drive. Also the other drive is still fine so I’ll only remove 1 star.ORIGINAL REVIEW: Bought 2 of these. 1 for OS and apps. The other for games and large work files. It’s amazing how quickly you fill up an entire TB when you know you’ve got super fast storage on hand. Will update this review if they do/do not live up to their life expectancy.

Installing this SSD was very simple, but the Echo cloning software available from SP was not! It never actually finished cloning; it would freeze up at around the 85% mark. After trying a few times, I decided to just install the drive, figuring I could just restore my system image if I had to, But, my laptop booted up fine and seems to have no issues. So far, so good.

I used to build PC’s as a hobby. Gave it up because it was starting to turn into a job, I already have one of those. A month ago cleaned out most of my tech closet. Kept enough worthwhile parts to build a couple of older gaming grade desktop systems. TBH even a five year old AMD Phenom runs Win 10 just fine. It’s the graphic card and available memory that speeds things upPicked up this SSD to give a faster boot time a PC I use to run Zwift, a program that controls effort on my indoor smart trainer. I also stream audio at the same time. Using their copy utility everything went well. However, I do recommend you copy the code on the drive label before you button things up. It’s needed a few more times.I booted my PC and all was well. I know the first couple of boot ups on a new install will be slow. Windows needs to index the new drive and perform a few other tasks. But now that things have settled in, I’m very disappointed with the boot times. My laptop with SSD comes up in less then a minute. Yes, I know there’s more BIOS mandated tasks in a desktop system, but it not much shorter either to boot or accessing a program than the WD Raptor (7200rpm) drive it replaced.

If you have been holding out for a SATA SSD, wait no more. I was a very, very late adopter of the technology. Solid State drives were expensive and (for a while) much smaller than the traditional hard drive. But now we are without excuse.Today one can get a 1TB SSD for about $100 and the improvement in performance is astounding. I got this particular drive for my HP Pavilion 17-g133cl which would RUN programs decently, but loading them took FOREVER.This little drive has solved that problem. Looking back I should have gotten a drive with greater capacity, but this will certainly do for now. Installation was LITERALLY plug-in and go.I gladly recommend this SSD to anyone looking to upgrade for not a lot of cash.PS: I do not honestly know how this drive is for gaming when compared to more expensive drives by Samsung and Western Digital so I gave it 3 stars to be neutral. Additionally, I am unclear as to what sleep mode has to do with SSDs so I went neutral on that aspect as well.

Wonderful product
I was looking for an SSD with a capacity of 256 GB. To my surprise, most of the brands offer 240 GB SSD. As you know, all disk drives offer close to 95% of claimed space for usage, if you buy a 256 GB disk then you ill get 235-240 GB usable space. Hence, the lesser the capacity, the lesser the available space for usage. This was the reason I opted for Silicon Power. The delivery was quick as always and what was shocking was the weight of the drive that sits at merely 36g. This means replacing my HDD with SSD in my laptop actually brings down the weight of the device. Not to mention SSDs make your computer faster. I am very happy and satisfied with Silicon Power SSD and will recommend it for those looking for budget SSD

This is a very solid budget SSD, if you simply want mass storage with decent speed at. Slow price this is a good SSD for you. As shown in my pictures it’s not much slower than my other SATA SSD, a Samsung 850 EVO. Now there is quite a price difference between the two, and I’m not saying the A55 is better than the 850 EVO, but it’s not that much worse and quite a bit cheaper. Unless you’re doing massive amounts of data reading/writing everyday which you won’t be doing with something like gaming you won’t notice the speed difference between the two drives, and if you are doing tons of read and write heavy taste you should be looking for an NVME SSD anyways rather than these SATA ones since they’re far and away faster.Overall my SATA SSD of choice.

It’s a very regular SSD drive. The performance of the drive is better than a mechanical drive but not fast enough. Its reading speed can reach up to 240MB/s and average writing speed is about 50MB/s according to my tests. The storage space is just as described, no bad sectors were found. I suggest buyers to spend extra more dollars to buy a named brand SSD drive.

I’ve bought four of these now, and three work great but the newest one, this one, has constant errors. I tried installing ESO to it twice, during game load screens would take a loooong time, and the game would frequently crash. Then, after two tries and seeing constant disk errors in windows Error Log, I figured what the heck, let me try to low level format it, then install Photoshop and Illustrator to it. Within days, I experienced another set of drive failures, and Photoshop and Illustrator stopped working. So I switched to an external hard drive caddy to hook this up via USB, low level formatted it, and used it for movie storage for movies I’ve downloaded off YouTube TV and Netflix. Guess what? It failed again while streaming content from it (attached to a computer) to the Chromecast in the living room. I said okay, I’ve just set it in a box and it collects dust in the closet. The other three run great, never have a problem at all with them and one has been running for three years in that box as the OS disk for Windows 10. These drives are sometimes reliable, just make sure when you start having any drive issues, you just get a replacement before you pass the return window trying all sorts of alternate uses.

I have purchased and used Silicon Power products for a couple of years now. I have never had a bad ssd drive or flash drive. They benchmark well and never run hot, like other brands that I have bought in the past. I used their products in my business builds as well as for my personal use. And their prices are always great !

Never had a drive without serial numbers before. All 000000000’s here.Seems to be working, good bang for the buck. Also the cheap comes out expensive. Was not recognized a few times needed to “coax” it to be mounted in the system. Installed Dell rack server as a VM.Only had to a day and not impressed, hope it changes my mind over time.

It isn’t the best performing thing out there, but it sure is a heck of a lot better than the HDD it replaced. Would recommend this brand if you need quick and cheap SSD’s that are likely to perform acceptably.

I had purchased an inexpensive laptop with a Celeron processor. Once I got it I started to do updates from Microsoft and it froze up on the reinstall for several hours. Once I shut it down it would only open to the original starting screen, then freeze up. It had come with just a 125 Gig SSD, so I purchased this one at the surprisingly lower price and had a hard time finding a reasonably priced Windows 10 Pro on a memory stick. For a littly more than $150 dollars I had a better hard drive and an up to date Win 10 operating system. The drive was easy to install into the bottom of the laptop and booted right up to the setup screen. A couple of hours later I had it up and operating with the latest updates. It was a very welcome upgrade to a marginal computer with limit storage space and an OEM Win 10 Pro OS that was questionalbe to say the least. I now have a decent reliable backup laptop. Highly recommended.

Great affordable SSD
My previous SSD was Gigabyte NAND 240 GB, which was working great for sometime, then it started giving a weird problem, system partition get deleted automatically resulting windows failed to boot or boot drive not found messages. I have no clue why was it happening, formatted my pc several times due to this issue, then I decided to buy new SSD, so I bought this. But unfortunately my problem was not solved as this new Silicon Power SSD giving the same problem as I have mentioned above. Besides that its a great affordable SSD, performance is really great, boot time is only 8 second. However, only 476 GB is usable out of 512 GB, almost 36 GB is compromised, I wonder where it’s being used.

I have purchased this SSD to replace an old failing HDD. It works wonders for old laptops that can only be upgraded with a SATA drive. As for the value I would say buy the 256Gb instead. I did not notice that the difference between the 2 was only $3 therefore I wouldn’t recommend getting the 128Gb.
Raz –
The overall performance speed of this is sub par for SSD’s however if you use the fact that it’s cheaper and buy 2 or more. You can put them into a Raid0 or use windows10 built in storage spaces to do the same. The result is twice the capacity and better performance than a top of the line SSD for a fraction of the cost to get the size.

I have this one from 2018. (today is 1-11-2022)It’s still working pretty well, however it is quite slow for an SSD.I think the main reason I got it was because it was cheap back then. I see that now it even runs cheaper ~30USD, lol.Anyway, you can see the real life speeds in the picture and decide if that’s for you.

Rec’d on time and undamaged. Opened it up and popped it into the pc I was working on and set it up for transfer/cloning. The one drawback I had was it’s reference for free software for transferring and it turns out to be nothing more than for games, music and such and wanted my card number. NO Way! I just went to their website and got whatever I needed or wanted there. Other than that everything went great. Recommended.

I’ve purchased around 15 of these devices and have had very few problems with them. I’m sure they are not the fastest SSDs available, but they are more than adequate for upgrading older systems and making them MUCH faster. Some old systems don’t seem to recognize newer SSDs such as this one, but that isn’t the fault of the Silicon Power SSD. For example, an older Samsung NP300U1A-A01 laptop system system works fine with an older 64GB SSD but will not allow Windows 10 to be installed on the SP disk or on another newer SSD. I’m trying to update the BIOS in the Samsung which MAY help. I’ll update this review if this is successful. Just a “heads up” for anyone hoping to update a very old system.

Light and Fast!! Does what its supposed to
Silicon Power is a good SSD no matter what some of the other comments here say. Its not the same say as Samsung but its close enough in terms of quality and speed, the two most important factors when deciding on a SSD. Hey if you really wanted a Samsung then you should go out, pay the fancy price and buy it. Yes I agree that Samsung reliability would be 100% but this ain’t too bad either. I already own a Samsung SSD drive and wanted something budget friendly this time. Their Velox series is more for people who are exploring SSD’s for the first time. This model Ace A55 is budget friendly mid range SSD which is good for laptops. The best part is that it is smaller in thickness and hence really low on weight. But it may lead to heating in the future as the thicker ones usually have better chip design and cooling built into them. I will know this summer. If installing in a laptop it will make a difference even if you already have other SSD’s installed like the M.2 PCIe Gen 3 and have replaced your laptop DVD writer also with an Samsung SSD drive like me. Coming to the speed, a user here has already written an important and very helpful comment, you need to align the SSD partitions and sectors correctly if you want it to perform especially when cloning your old HDD and Windows partitions to it. I suggest the same thing and recommend using Mini Tool Partition to align the partitions to 1MB by default. I didn’t need to do all this as its not the primary SSD in my laptop and not going to be the last one either but yes for my primary SSD I did need to. Where this SSD really boosts up speed is on a Macbook. Trust me when I say this but booting up MacOS using a SSD is going to feel supersonic as compared to booting up a HP Pavillion Windows 10. But yes die hard Windows fans a SSD is going to improve your loading and waiting times immensely. Its damn irritating waiting for all the tray icons to load even if you have 16 GB of RAM. For the geeks out there plenty of tests are available to check out the speed of this SSD and I think Silicon Power does not do too poorly in most of them for a mid range SSD. You can also download their ToolBox to test your drives health from time to time. They even provide a licensed cloning software if you dont have Acronis or Mini Tool. As with all my reviews I must post a little caveat, most low to medium priced SSD’s including this one require some amount of system RAM to function correctly. So if you buy a SSD like this one 512 GB then be prepared to sacrifice at least 1 GB of RAM to the SSD for its caching tasks etc. That can make a difference on an old 4 GB RAM system especially if you share RAM with the inbuilt Graphics card as well. Therefore first upgrade the RAM on your old PC or laptop and then buy a SSD especially if you intend to use it for high processing power work later and really breathe life into your old system. On older systems a SSD does make a difference but where it really shines would be on a system with adequate processing power and RAM. Also please note 512 GB does not mean it will effectively show up as 512 GB for use on a Windows laptop. Its the way to do with the way the file system reports the effective space on Microsoft based systems when formatted for Windows use. On a Mac it will show up correctly as 512 GB as they have changed their operating system to report the space/size correctly. But its there on both systems as the effective size provided by the manufacturer SP has not gone anywhere. All in all go for this SSD if you want to bump your old Desktop or laptop by a notch when working or gaming by spending a little. If you want to know specifics suggest you visit the manufacturers website and look for Ace A55 which is the model number for this SSD. Its the starting model in their Ace series. For those looking to buy something more pocket friendly I suggest getting this. I am not going to explain 3D NAND etc as it does not matter to most users here but lets just say this does the job in the price you paid.

I have a use for an old DELL Inspiron 537s that was horribly slow, and decided to update it to an SSD. First I tried to install a Samsung 850 EVO with their “magician” cloning software, which didn’t work because the hard disk in the desktop “was not supported”. I discovered that the PC’s old motherboard has a BIOS that only provides IDE SATA, and this may have been the reason. I returned the 850 EVO and bought this Silicon Power SSD. I opened the PC and connected this SSD to the SATA and power cables of the DVD. Booted into the BIOS and checked that it was recognized. I had found on the back of the SSD the information to download the Silicon Power cloning software, which I did. This software was easy to use and it cloned the HDD to the SSD in no time (maybe because the SSD was on SATA and not on an USB). I swapped the SSD to the SATA and power connectors of the HDD without removing the hard disk but easily finding a space for the small SSD, then powered up and the old PC woke up to a new life, pleasantly fast. So far I am quite satisfied with update, and I hope the SSD will last me forever. The only minor issue I have is with the cloning software. Nowhere it says that the way to get it is by finding a small label on the back of the SSD that gives the site from where to download it. And the process, although not hard, has unnecessary steps and checks with long codes and verification through email, as it would be about a bank account that has millions of dollars in it. Maybe the vendor could simplify this, since one still has to buy the drive to make the cloning.

So I’m torn in between giving a good rating or not, if this is your first SSD purchase you will definitely like the product, it is, in fact, faster than regular drives, but its not as fast as competing brands, that being said the windows 10 installation failed twice, I was wondering if I had done anything wrong but I’ve been updating computers for years and I’ve done the same process of operating system installations and haven’t come across this issue before. The hard drive kept somehow going missing and I would check the connection but everything was good, I would restart the pc and the same thing would happen. I tried it on a different pc and the same thing happened, its like it was having trouble reading this drive specifically. finally, I got it to work without doing anything, and it’s still not as fast as id like it to be. Overall it’s a good cheap purchase if you need a boost in speed. If you know what you are doing and have dealt with these before, I suggest paying a little extra and get better quality SSDs so you wont be dissapointed.

I do music recording and production on a PC. I have been using a Seagate 2TB HDD with 32 GB RAM for years and have been experiencing drop out and latency issues which has been seriously frustrating to my workflow. I tried making the recommended adjustments to the settings in my DAW (Presonus Studio One 5.5) to minimize the issue. After doing some research, I decided to try this 2TB SSD. I cloned my HDD to this SSD using AOMEI Backer Upper. From the get go, the drop outs ceased. Even upon playback of the entire album I’m in the process of mastering. For the price, this SSD is a fantastic deal….especially that it has eliminated a longstanding issue. This camper is happy! Two Thumbs Up!!!

2.5″ SSD drive:It’s not very consistent and will break in performance. You can clearly see this with gaming and video editing.Gaming: the fps will fluctuate very low when loading new areas of the map. This is the result of the drive trying to read the new zones and let the video card produce the graphics.Video editing: the timer on the editing goes up and down dramatically. It’s not consistent and I’ve done nothing but watch the video recording in progress.Samsung magician shows the benchmarks go up and down with read and write speeds.File transfer shows the same issue when moving large files from nvme to ssd.NVME SSD:It’s the perfect drive out there. I ditched my old 960 Evo 256gb for this. It boots faster. Transfer files faster. Edit videos faster. Literally everything faster (including breaking down faster than the 960 Evo). Why it breaks down faster? TLC have a much shorter lifespan than MLC. However, that time it takes to use up all the read and write on the SSD would be in the years. By then, a newer technology will arrive.

It is not easy to get excited over a storage device of any size. 😉 That said, this was as easy to format and use as it should be. I am using it for portable storage as I have it in an external case/cable arrangement and I don’t care about speed, so for me, this gets the job done at an acceptable price and quality.

Had this in an old Acer V5 laptop and always performed well. The Acer died in a coffee vs cat accident. Bought an Asus TUF gaming laptop. Came with 1tb NVME and windows. Decided to dual boot and threw the drive into the open SATA bay and installed fresh Arch Linux install. Linux is my primary boot. May boot windows less then once a month. This SSD still going strong. Under Linux activating a weekly TRIM command increased performance quite nicely once the drive became about half full. Buying another for my Grandsons laptop that just had a hard drive failure.

Like many others have said. Replace your old disk drives that have spinning platters with solid state drives. And wow, it’s like a whole new faster PC. Prices have fallen so low, and it’s very easy to clone a drive and install. You can even watch a short YouTube video if needed. It’s so worth buying an SSD to revive a laptop or tower PC to keep it from being landfill for a few more years. This drive is still new with not a ton of use. So far so good as they say. I did buy several different brands and sizes and if any fail. I’ll come back here to complain about the failures.

If on a budget its ok, a bit slow for an SSD, but it was inexspensive.

After installing two of these drives, I can say that the installation and reliability has been great. The only reason I’m not giving this drive 5 stars is because it does not seem to copy files as fast at it should for being an SSD drive. After paying only $35 in May 2019, I’m very happy that this cheap of an upgrade breathed new life into an otherwise sluggish 2010 MacBook Pro and a practically unusable 2007 MBP.The two Mac laptops I upgraded with this drive are:MacBook Pro 13″ Mid-2010Installed High Sierra.MacBook Pro 15″ Late-2007Installed El Capitan. The drives fit snugly into both of these laptops and the T6 screw swapout from the old drive went smoothly.Applications on both (yes, even the 2007 model) launch within a few seconds (see the videos for the MBP 2010), whereas with the old spinning hard drives, their age and limitations were making running basic apps painfully slow.Boot up takes only about 30 seconds on both computers and previously I had to wait 2 minutes or more before the desktop was loaded on the 2007 model.I followed the iFixIt Guides to replace both drives and the step by step visual guide made it very easy to open the laptop cases.Prior to doing these upgrades, I had only ever upgraded RAM in a mac laptop or slotted in a new CD burner into a PC desktop (and both of those upgrades are less of a hurdle for someone unaccustomed to computer hardware upgrades). The harder part is working with commands in the Terminal app if something throws an error or other stumbling block. If you are running a laptop does not already have an SSD drive, I can say with confidence that making the upgrade will not only drastically improve your performance and experience using the computer, but it will also allow to to run the newest OS your machine supports, without making big sacrifices.I also run a desktop PC with Windows 8 and if you are trying to keep an old PC laptop alive, an SSD drive is a no brainer to ensure you can run a modern OS without huge performance issues. For PCs the same rule of thumb applies, an SSD is the best cheapest upgrade you can make.

This is a nice little drive. Not the fastest but adequate for the price. If you’re looking to use this by cloning an existing HDD in a laptop it will definitely improve performance. The trick is finding cloning software. If you want to purchase software there are many options out there. If you’re looking for free, well many advertise free but they’re not. Not when it comes to HDD to SSD “cloning.” Samsung provides their software for their drives but you pay extra in the price of the drive. The only software that is free and capable of cloning with this drive is Macri** Reflect. You get a 30 day trial and you have to sign up for it. Undoubtedly so they can send you advertising to purchase. I was able to clone a laptop with a 1 TB HDD to this smaller SSD. I didn’t have much on the HDD so I knew it would fit. Took a few hours but it worked well.

It did not come with a sata cable but overall a great value for a TB SSD drive, makes games performance so much better than my regular spinning drive

It’s only been a month or so since I did a drive swap and reinstall. We will see in the long run how it’s working still. I’ll keep this updated but I’d give it a 4 so far.

Died after less than a year. Seemed to work fine but then it all the sudden crapped out last week. I can’t even load a fresh install of windows it’s so crapped out. SP’s website states their hard drives have a multi year warranty. I emailed them and hope to hear back and receive a replacement under warranty. If they don’t cover their faulty drive and send me a replacement I’ll leave this review as is. If they stand behind their warranty then I’ll revisit this review and adjust it.Updated June 2021: I reached out to SP and sent them the bad drive and they sent me a replacement. I had to pay return shipping for the bad one but it was only a couple bucks. New one seems to be working fine. I’m really glad they stood behind their warranty. Still sucks it crapped out after a year but maybe it was just a bad one. Guess I’ll see how this new one works out.

This thing is ridiculous. It’s the size and weight of a handful of credit cards, costs about as much as a sit-down dinner for three, and has made it so that windows upgrading in the background doesn’t freeze everything up.I ordered one that was delivered on the 30th, copied my OS drive over and spent the next day moving all my programs besides the cloud storage off of that windows drive. The improvement was so notable that I’m back now, on the second, to buy one for my husband’s computer.(Also resisting the urge to yell about ‘get off my lawn’, I was in my 20s when a friend first had a terabyte of storage. It was a RAID array that cost the better part of a thousand dollars and was HUGE.)

Lightning fast and booster for my old laptop
As it’s purely visible from the images what difference it must have made to my 10 years old Sony Vaio E series laptop with Core i3 3rd Gen processor. I don’t hate my old laptop anymore😂. Boot up time improved to 20-25 secs from 2-3 mins. compared to HDD. Got 238 GB usable out of total 256 GB. Go for it blindly. First health check 100% with SSD life 99.9%. Very light weight and quality product in budget.

Fácil de instalar, funciono con mi laptop, al migrar el SO fue super rapido, se demora mas al iniciar que otras marcas de mayor reconocimiento pero por el precio es genial. Me gusto que la marca ofrece herramientas para diagnostico y garantía.

Works perfectly fine the reassign and writing speeds are good but not that good than a m.2 ssd. But for the price is good.

Initailizing the drive was tricky – took a bit of arm wrestling and a spate sata port on a desktop to wake it up.

It is not easy to get excited over a storage device of any size. 😉 That said, this was as easy to format and use as it should be. I am using it for portable storage as I have it in an external case/cable arrangement and I don’t care about speed, so for me, this gets the job done at an acceptable price and quality.

I got two of the 512GB drives, one to use as an external SSD in an enclosure and one to install into my Mac Mini 2012 for storage of musical instrument samples. The one in my external SSD continues to work fine to this day (nearly a year later). However, in my Mac I suddenly noticed my samples were loading very slowly and I was often getting stuttering and dropouts in the audio. I booted the Mac into Linux and did a performance test and found that most of the drive was producing read speeds below 10MB/sec.I created a raw image of the entire drive (which took over 12 hours at this speed) and then manually TRIMmed the drive with blkdiscard and wrote the image back. Writing the image back happened at a normal speed and afterwards, reading the drive produced the expected read speeds. The machine is working as expected again, but this incident has raised some concern for me.I don’t necessarily think the drive is a bad drive, but I wonder if it may be a result of the heat generated by the Mac Mini when its CPU utilization is high. I’m purchasing an enterprise-class SSD for the Mini, and will probably reuse this drive in my desktop (where there’s more airflow and it’s cooler) to store games or something else that’s easily replaced should the drive actually fail.Recommendations:1. Be mindful if you use it in a less-than-optimum environment (in a cramped warm case like a Mac Mini, or in a laptop with poor cooling for example).2. Periodically do a full read test on the drive. Something like HD Tune can do an error scan which will do this. Check the read speed and make sure it’s still presenting reasonably high speeds.3. If you should suddenly experience poor performance, try doing what I did – copy all the data off to somewhere else, erase the drive and copy it back.

So I just purchased two more of these drives which are used in laptops around the house. The one that I purchased 4 years ago died at exactly 3.5 years. If you use these for anything more than light storage, the drives themselves will just stop responding to anything after the warranty expires. No complaints on the actual drive during use, and they seem very stable until they crash hard.

My laptop was slowing down a few years ago to an almost unusable state. Just turned it on a few times a year just to see if it still turned on. I was not paying attention SSDs for a few years and did not know it was only 20 some dollars for 512GB.This totally revived my laptop. It is fast and I need to wait a few years to commend on durability, but based on other reviews, there don’t seem to be much issues. Now I am using the laptop as a backup machine using Synching backing up things in my phone. My laptop is about 8 years old originally shipped with Win 8.0. The CPU was still fast enough to do most of things. I highly recommend to upgrade hard drives with these good cheap SSDs if you have old laptop with HDDs.To clone Windows I used “SABRENT 2.5 Inch SATA to USB 3.0 Tool Free External Hard Drive Enclosure” which is also an awesome product and a free clone program.

I bought this drive out of curiosity for this what I believed to be new technology. Solid state drives have been around for awhile, but with the current level of technology, the prices have been dropping and I thought this would be a good one to try. It was easy to install into my desktop internally as it is very small and the hard drive frame had a slot where it fit perfectly. The writing on the package was a bit confusing but after a visit to YouTube, I was able to get it up and running with no problem. I liked the speed at which it works even though I didn’t use any utilities to see if it lived up to what was on the package. If you’re curious like I was, then this is a good start for you.
