Got this motherboard along with Ryzen 5 1600 and Ballistix DDR4 2400 memory and I’ very impressed so far:Pros:-Love the white look-Everything worked like a charm right from the start-Has a good set of standard peripherals/slots including good Audio and USB-C, 4 PCI-X slots allow you to plug the 2 slot video card and keep 2 more available-Has a set of diagnostic LEDs for CPU/Mem/Video/HDD problems (instead of counting beeps)-Packaging includes well designed note on which slots to install the memory sticks into and how to install standard AMD Wraith cooler-Plenty of Fan connectors and you can control speed of all 3 and 4 pin fans from BIOS/MSI Command Center app-Overclocking is quite easy from the MSI Command Center app-You can turn off the LED using the MSI Gaming appCons:-Be patient with boot sequence – it takes a bit longer from the moment you turn it on to the bios screen than on the older motherboards.-Wake on USB is disabled by default so you need to enable it in BIOS to wake up using Keyboard/MouseOther thoughts:I was on the fence with the AMD Ryzen 5 vs Intel i5 platform but actually the motherboard played a big role in the decision – basically it’s $100 less than the z370 motherboards which you can use to buy 8GB of RAM. And the perf of the Ryzen 5 is amazing – 6 cores/12 threads are super fast no matter what you throw on it.

My mistake but I didn’t realize how small it was. I had I have known the size I would have went for a bigger MOBO. But this thing supports all up to date hardware at great overclock speeds. If you are going for a compact entry/mid level gaming computer, this is a great option, especially with an AMD Ryzen processor.

The board worked great out of the box! Instructions were clear the only couple of issues I had were that it only has 2 fan headers and I couldn’t overclock the integrated graphics on my Ryzen 3 3200g. Granted this board has a surprisingly nice bios with the ability to overclock the CPU and Ram. Running the 3200g at 4 ghz with ram at 3000mhz (still trying to get it to 3200)! Runs super cool around 31 idle, 74ish on load!

I bought this MB for the reason that It’s MSI AND it was ALSO the most bang for the buck available on the market! That and the fact that NO other company has such a solid reputation of working so closely with the great company of AMD, which is a winning combo no matter how you cut it ! Their business philosophy of putting customer needs FIRST align perfectly with each other the same as giving us MORE for our hard earned money than any other companies in the industry. Three days after recieving the ‘board I installed it, and it fired right up, NO problems! It was my FIRST PC build and thanks to the documentation It was EASY! You have to compare photos and literature from two documents though when connecting front case wires so take your time there. Everything was SO easy to see and understand on the BIOS and the entire BIOS itself looks very cool! You can just tell a lot of time went into designing the layout and features. There is ONLY one negative and it’s no slight to MSI at all as ALL companies are equally un-involved , and that is supporting LINUX! The writing has been on the wall for three years now, that’s a decade and a half in computer years, since Windows pulled their arrogant snub to their customers. Now the tsunami is ramping up by the tens of millions. In two years Linux will be the number one OS. They ARE underdogs right now BUT at the beginning of the year Intel was saying, “who’s AMD?”, NOW was-up? Savvy Hardware and software companies, (hint hint) may already have prepared for this eventuality and are poised to be IN FRONT of the curve by having ALL of their drivers available to Linux OS users so as to be first to reap the rewards! The companies who do that WILL be the big time winners this year, especially if those companies already drew some blood by surprising the competition with a SUPERIOR platform! (Hint Hint!) There is blood in the water, the predators who put it there had better eat fast because others will be getting their appetites back after a long time resting on their laurels. DRIVERS! Many companies are BLOATED and smiling at their hideous heft now. This is where lean, hungry companies willing to do the right thing WIN! That means ALL of we, the consumer, WINS! MSI, AMD, you’re BOTH AWESOME!!! Now throw us a bone and sit back and watch consumers STARVING for freedom and choice take you to another Galaxy as far as market share!

Good simple motherboard that doesn’t break the bank and is also built very well. Overclocking was straight forward and pushed my ryzen 5 1400 to 3.7ghz no problem. I am sure you can overclock more, but I didn’t want to increase the voltage. Motherboard also looks very nice in my case, and love that they went with a simple colour so it will mach most builds. I have ZERO issues with ram speed with this board, but I am only running my ram at stock speeds witch is 2400mhz. Booting my computer takes about 12 seconds. I am also using a ssd drive so if you are using a regular hdd do not expect those speeds. If your not wanting to spend more on a x370 board this is a very good choice. Honestly I don’t see the point in buying a x370 board unless you need sli support. For this price point you wont get a better board.

Just finished a budget Ryzen 5 build with this motherboard and works great- listed my specs below.Initially setting this up was not too difficult, however booting up is where i encounter slight issues. Unbeknownst to me this had NO on-board graphics installed, so when trying to hook up my DVI to my monitor to mobo to access the BIOS – errors.**HOWEVER**you must have already plug a graphics card into the PCI slot then hook it up, and works perfectly.First thing I did was flash the mobo chipset to the newest update version: 7A39v25 (because of online reviews suggesting poor/buggy performance when it comes to memory) and I’d advise you do the same, everything is listed on the MSI’s mobo website (use the american one) and pretty self explanatory.Pros:- Comes with two SATA cables, (has 4 sata ports)- Stickers to label your wires- Love the LED on mobo, lights up when its on- Can overclock! (but don’t recommend – given MSI reputation lol)Cons:- Feels somewhat brittle (i guess thats what you get for the price)- Case fan cooler power connects are positioned weirdly, have to extend my PSU cables in a odd arrangement around my GPU – looks messy but it works.Overall very pleased, this is a great motherboard if your on a budget, keep in mind there are only 2 ram slots (max 32 gb) if you’re looking for more try the tomhawk version.– SPECS –CPU: Ryzen 5 1500XRAM: Crucial Sport LT 8GB Single DDR4 2400GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB GDDR5HDD: 1TB WDB 7200RPMPSU: EVGA 430WWireless Adapter: 600Mbps Dual Band 5Ghz / 2.4Ghz Long Range USBOS: WIndows 10 Pro

Good board with a clean aesthetic. It was easy to update and navigate the bios for any changes I needed to make. One gripe is that i was tricky getting my ram to stay at 3200mhz without failing to boot. It had trouble booting windows 10 and kept blue screening until I fully updated Windows. My assumption is that older versions of Windows 10 had trouble handling new Ryzen architecture. Once all that was fixed it ran very well, it just took a good amount of troubleshooting.

For the price this is a great mATX motherboard. Installed nicely in my system. The colour is sort of an off-white/grey, not a bright white if that makes a difference to anybody trying to colour match this with other components. Setup was easy and the MSI system easily allows for overclocking

Good value, Worked right out of the box. Plenty quick enough for my application with a Ryzen 5 3400G processor.I wanted a reasonably priced Media and file server that could handle multiple simultaneous video streams for a few friends and family members. All’s running great. Currently set up running Ubuntu 18.xx Linux, Plex Server and Synergy KVM software so i don’t need to keep a keyboard and mouse connected. Using 16G DDR4, 500G M.2 PCIE NVME drive for OS and misc file storage and two 2 TB drives for media storage. Plenty of USB and SATA connectors. Only con, is that there is only two FAN Headers. Would have liked one more under bios control for the rear fan. One can argue I don’t really need it, but I like things to run cool. Again over all a good value!

Good motherboard for Ryzen CPU’s!
I’ve purchased this motherboard from an external vendor for a great bargain when compared to the price here. Make sure you update your BIOS once you receive it and ALWAYS have a look at the compatible RAM cards. I was able to get the G.SKILL Ripjaws V 2400 Mhz CL15 RAM card to work at full memory speed by just turning on A-XMP in BIOS and not having to tinker with the memory timings or voltages. Since Ryzen CPU’s performance might have a small performance boost depending on the RAM memory speed’s, it is recommended to invest in faster RAM’s if you’re seeking more frames in certain games.

It would’ve been nice to have a USB 3.1 header on the board, but otherwise everything is more than acceptable. Overclocking headroom is stable. I had some difficulty connecting the cable for front USB 3.0 support, and had to bend some point back into place. That’s less of a gripe about the board layout though, and more of a general build difficulty in the Fractal Design Meshify C.

Excellent motherboard, one of the best choices that you can make when it comes to building a new PC based on Ryzen. I have tried a few motherboard over time and I can easily say that this is the best that I have seen at this price point. It performs very well and comes packed full of features for this price point and did I mention that it actually looks good as well ?Extra Info and Tips:Make sure to check that the RAM that you are using is compatible with this board, this is VERY important. It can be easily checked on their support page and this ensures a no headache PC build.Update the BIOS as soon as you can, it’s very easy if you follow the steps on their website, don’t be afraid to visit their support page for more info.

Just built my Ryzen system not too long ago, this MSI Motherboard has been solid. With the LED boot up test lights to the red LED ambient lights made me have to build a red and black theme lol. I do like the suite of MSI software, though I don’t have all of them installed. I only use the MSI Live Update app and the Gaming app. Those help me keep the motherboard software updated, control the LED lights and put my cpu in silent mode or gaming mode. I have tried the OC mode in the gaming app but it doesn’t seem like it is doing anything. So I’ll stick to doing the overclocking myself. The only real set back that I faced was the initial Memory compatibility for Ryzen. I had to wait for the bios update that had the new AGESA microcode. For a bit I could only hit 2667mhz on my G.Skill Ripjaw V DDR4 3200 kit. As of right now I can run 3200mhz and has been running smooth. That’s pretty much it, everything has been plug and play. No real headaches. The main reasons I decided on buying this board is to build a smaller computer and that has crossfire capability. B350 chipset doesn’t natively support crossfire, but MSI was nice enough to set up a version of it through a pcie 2.0. I have yet to test it out, because of the current price craze of graphics cards. So I’ll update this review when I get to that. One minor con or glitch, is the lack of bios download option through the LIVE Update app. I say glitch because the LIVE update app can recognize your bios version, but I’m not sure if it was meant to download the newest bios or not. I Understand there is a procedure to doing the Flash. I think it would be nice if I can actually download the newest bios within the app, instead of having to go to the website ever so often to look for an update. The only real con, at the time of purchase, is the lack of selection of X370 chipset (with native crossfire) for MATX form factor on all motherboard vendors. So, as I previously mentioned MSI helped us out a bit. If I had to pay a bit more for it i would have and if wanted to build with a Full ATX board I would have waited for Threadripper.

i was worried about the BIOS updates, because i ordered a 2nd Gen Ryzen, but everything worked just fine, my neightbor ordered a Ryzen 3, and allow me to use it to upgrade my motherboard bios and works fine, the only thing i can complain and this isn’t entirely MSI fault, is the socket for the CPU cooler, it won’t correctly, at least my Hyperx 212, i had to release a little the screws for the FM4 hook holder, then secure the heatsink, and then tight again the screws because the other hyperx holder won’t work at least the one i have.

I was very skeptical about purchasing from MSI. I usually go with different mother board brands. I have to admit I am impressed. The board is functioning as described by the seller. I have not experienced any major issues. Performance wise is as I expected. I did do research in regards to this board and chip compatibility. The led lighting is a nice addition to this board.

Everything about this board works. Its decent, does what I expected it to which was to overclock my r5 1600x cpu and my ram…it supports ram up to 3200mhz, though right now the highest I can get the ram up to is 2933mhz. MSI said they’re rolling out bios updates for memory stability, as of right now I have bios version 2.6, the most recent bios, still cant get 3200mhz. Hope this changes for the better.Boot times for bios on this mobo is somewhat of an annoyance, the only reason it doesnt bother me as much is because I dont shut down my pc often, if at all. I just put the pc to sleep. If you”re one to turn off/restart your pc often you will notice this. My pc itself boots up quickly into windows from ssd but so long as its still in bios stage it takes probably 3 to 5 seconds longer than other motherboards to move from bios over to OS. That is somewhat ridiculous in this day and age. Hope bios updates can/will iron this out.As for everything else, it functions fine…very well under load and standby. The utilities that go with this motherboard are accurate, the fan controllers etc work and adjust to every fine tune, also the hot swap monitor modes you can choose from are good as well. Decent board for the 80 dollar price.

I am writing this review to enter into the MSI Reward ProgramThe only complaint I have about the motherboard is that I still can’t get it to run my RAM at it’s full speed. I have some Corsair 16gb DDR4-3200, but I can only get it to run at a max of 2800.Everything else about the mobo is nice. Plenty of slots for ram (I only use 2), has the required slot for my GPU needs (a single 1080 ti), has onboard audio (no video), plenty of USB 2.0 and 3.0 slots, as well as 4 sata ports for hard drives and disk drives. There’s also an m.2 slot, but I’m not ready to use that yet.I bought this as a replacement for another copy of the same board that I damaged while installing my Wraith Cooler on my Ryzen 1700 (screw driver accident. Things happen, okay?)

I paired this with a Ryzen r5 1600 and I’m very happy with the build. Aesthetically it’s the nicest looking motherboard I’ve had – the design and subtle LED lighting is classy on those rare occasions when my side panel is off. I’ve always liked MSI’s BIOS and this board is no exception. It’s really new, so I imagine a few rough edges (like better XMP DDR4 support) will be coming from MSI.I run Manjaro Linux (4.12 kernel), and there was only one rough spot – crackling audio. I fixed that by editing /etc/pulse/default.pa and adding “tsched=0′” to the end of line “load-module module-udev-detect” and then restarting pulseaudio.Sensors doesn’t find any temp indicators on the board, so I have no idea what temp it’s running, but the board is so new that’ll probably be resolved in a kernel update. Networking and everything else works great.

You have to have a video card for it to work. Intel based motherboards you don’t. After all said and done when built it was great.

Could use more USB ports, but that’s just because I have a lot of peripherals. Works well otherwise. Reminder: this board would need a BIOS update to support current Ryzen CPUs. Works fine out of the box with my Ryzen 1600, but would not if you had a 2600 or similar. Keep that in mind.

Ich kann das Board nur jedem empfehlen. Was muss mein pc können?

I used this board to upgrade my HTPC “on the cheap” to a Ryzen system. Paired with a Ryzen 3 3200G and a MSI GTX 1050ti LP card (yes, I know, but I wanted the 3200G for potential other projects down the road). I did NOT have to update the BIOS to run the 3200G. Plug and play. This is a no-frills board. It’s an A320 chipset so you’re not going to overclock. But at this level, who needs to? The BIOS is very simple and nothing to write home about, but frankly I doubt I’ll have a need to spend much time there with this machine. You’re not going to use this as the foundation of a high speed gaming rig. But it is *perfect* for a budget rig, secondary computer, or HTPC unit, which was my use case, and frankly you simply want it to work. And it does. As for features, the ports are adequate, it supports M.2, and it uses front-facing SATA ports, which come in handy in some tighter case configs. For example, I used the In-Win CE685.FH300TB3 300W MicroATX Slim Case for this build, and as tight as that case is, only these types of SATA ports would have worked. The only minor ding I’d give has been mentioned by other reviewers: lack of extra fan headers. This is an easily solved problem with a splitter or a hub, but it’s something the buyer should be aware of going into it.So I was able to put together a very capable HTPC that also functions as a half-decent living room gaming console in a pinch for very little money using this board. As I upgrade all of the machines in the house, this will also get upgraded, likely eventually getting a Ryzen 7 3700X down the road. I’m confident that it will handle it fine given I can find an appropriate cooling solution. If you’re just looking for a no-frills board that works and has some future upgrade capability, and overclocking isn’t in the cards, then this is a great solution at a very good price point.

So I typically use MSI or ASUS motherboards. For my new Ryzen build I decided to spring for the Asus Crosshair AM4 – a $250 motherboard. Did it for the RGB and wanted a good board for overclocking, and had nothing but issues from day 1, just like a lot of boards. After the 4th BIOS update on that board bricked it (Too much voltage to the Dims) I decided to RMA it and go with something else. I trust MSI above other manufactures based on years of good experience, and I was right again to trust them.Seamless setup, no bugs, no issues, was able to overclock my 1700x to 3.95gz (1.35v I have it on water but I lost the silicon lottery 🙁 ). And the Ram overclocking is SO EASY. So on the website they say the 350 chipset only supports up to 2666 ram overclock. However that was just at release, since then with BIOS updates the board now supports much higher ram speed (at least 3200mhz) which Ryzen directly benefits from.MSI has a technology called A-XMP – It’s exactly what it sounds like. A-XMP is a XMP overclocking technology they did just for RYZEN using timings and voltages based off Ryzen not INTEL which is what every other Ryzen Board uses. Asus has something similar, but it was based off AM3 and Intel timings. It works like a charm, just click the profile and Voltages and Ram speed is rock freaking solid without any hassle (I keyed in my timings and voltages after the fact as I like to fine tune, but the set voltage was not that much above what I set it to, about .6 – offset) Currently have the ram stable at 2933, but planning on going to 3200 with the next BIOS update.Hands down best board to pair with Ryzen if you don’t need the 370 chipset for SLI.

Beast in class
Value for money. If you are confused on what to buy in the b450 series just go with the tomahawk. Best heat dissipation in its class. Using it for more than 6 months and satisfied with its performance.Pros:Sleek designGood DRM for heat dissipationExtended heat sinksCons:More RGB lighting could be present

Out of the box it’s an average board won’t give you much but if you don’t plan to overclock it’s perfect. If you do plan on overclocking 100% update your bios to the latest version or your overclock will more than likely lead to a failed boot and it’s a pain to reset. So once you update and get the kinks out the board is perfect. Obviously this is a budget board but with 4 ram slots I can’t complain. I hope in the future thy come with an updated bios out of the box so pc users like me don’t get a heart attack after overclocking.

I got mine used in good condition. The box was in good shape and it came with new stuff in the box like the I/O Shield and SATA cables. It’s a good (mostly)hassle free board with red LED accent lighting. I just wish it had a little more rear IO but it does have 2 internal USB 3 headers. It even has a ton of legacy stuff like PATA and even DB9 COMM headers. Neat. I highly recommend this board for people who don’t need a ton of frills but would like a powerful and featured mobo. USB on the back may feel a little loose and if you buy used like I did, then you run the risk of having problems with USB power.Edit: Went from 5 to 4 stars because of the issues I’ve been having with USB on my particular board, probably because I got a returned board. If you can buy new, then go for it. If you have some extra cash then go for the B450.

I bought this board over the tomahawk board since this was cheaper at the time of purchase . In I’m glad I did too it a wonderful board same number of power phases that the hawk has to my knowledge , Over clocks my r5 1600 to 3.9ghz and my ram overclocked to 2166mhz for 2133mhz .I know they have more updates bios wise that will help me get the ram up faster but for now I’m happy with it .An added bonus is the fact that the board has this nice led strip on the board that can be set to flash or pulse which is nice .The test led lights that let you know if there something wrong with the cpu or ram or pump is a nice added bonus when you trying to overclock and not sure what you did wrong it lets you know an also reset the bios so that you can start fresh again all in all I love it .

Initial boot was weird as it power cycled all of the fans 8-10 times over a minute or two before POSTing. It did POST though and everything is working flawlessly. Ryzen 1600X CPU properly detected and running at 3.6GHz base, Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 2666 single-rank memory (BLS2K8G4D26BFSCK) automatically detected and running at the full 2666 speed. Windows 10 installation booting from a FAT32 formatted USB memory stick and installing to a Corsair 240GB M.2 nVME PCIe SSD went fast and without issue. I did not need to have any drivers ready in advance. Windows installed all necessary drivers for normal operation, including network driver. I then downloaded the MSI Live Update utility and used that to install the latest versions of drivers that Windows did not yet have. Also downloaded the AMD Chipset driver from AMD’s website to get the Ryzen power profile for proper boost mode functionality. TIP: don’t install MSI Gamer App if you want to use the Ryzen power profile, it will override the AMD profile. Everything was straightforward and easier than how most builds go.Other thoughts: I wish the rear I/O would get rid of the PS/2 connectors which are obsolete and have been obsolete for over 15 years now and replace them with another pair of USB 2.0 ports. Also, the rear I/O shield is impossible to read. I had to take a photo of it with my phone and zoom in which was barely enough to figure out which audio port did what. Whoever thought that matte red paint on a matte black background with a white motherboard should be out of a job.

Does exact what’s needed. I was looking to upgrade from my older fx 8350 to ryzen and I’m on a bit of a budget with having to get the cpu, ram, and mobo. This fit the bill perfectly and I was easily able to get my ryzen 1500x to oc to 3.8 on this board. It still has issues with running my 3000mhz rated ram, but I was able to get it to 2666 mhz and have it run stable. Also having an m.2 slot is a plus for the potential upgrade in the future. I was also able to get a Noctua NH D15 am4 on this comfortably with all the ram slots filled. I did have to set the fans to be in the center and rear of the heatsink as having the fan on the front did hit the ram.A potential downside is that you can fit only a single graphics card on this, but I never planned to do sli or crossfire with my rig.

Should have been 5 stars but the board that I received did not have the latest BIOS update so if you are planning on using an AMD Ryzen 5 2400 APU there is a chance that you will receive a motherboard with an old BIOS firmware. If that’s the case, it will not boot/POST until it is updated. I had to contact AMD to ship me a BootKit CPU so I can update my BIOS firmware. Once updated, it had no other issues. All-in-all had to wait 1.5 weeks to get my computer build up and running after I received my motherboard.

Everything was fine with this motherboard. The only thing I have complaints about this motherboard though is that it only comes with only one fan header, so you will definitely need a fan controller or splitter or SATA or MOLEX connector/hub. It is a pretty decent entry level motherboard. Another thing you need to be careful if is the I/O shield. There are small tabs protruding each opening and can be very sharp. I personally have already cut my index finder on them.

As a motherboard I really liked it, my only problems were the BIOS and the amount of USB ports, neither were big issues. the colors went really well with my white/red/black theme. the motherboard looks sleek and professional. I would definitely put this motherboard in my next build.

Gorgeous board and looks great with RGB lights. Ambient lighting is very mellow, and doesn’t distract from blue/orange/red builds. The bios is a bit finicky, and I think may be responsible for some CPU temp reporting issues. I’m going to give this a month or so of future bios updates before I call it, as this is a new platform. I was able to easily set my 3200 mhz ram to 2933 mhz using A-XMP profile 1 on this board, so it wins some points there.Overclock of r5 1600 was easy once I watched a tutorial. Check youtube for videos before attempting yourself. User the Ryzen Master application to test various frequencies and voltages; then set the voltage and enter desired frequency in mobo. You don’t need to deal with multipliers or base clock. My 1600 is currently set for 3750 mhz at 1.2875 V I think. This board will autocorrect your manual entries to nearest 0.625 I believe. Also, make sure you update the bios. The m-flash tool is very easy to use.

Fantastic board for the price. With driver and bios updates it works great with the new Raven Ridge APU’s. Red lights are nice, the EZ Debug LED’s are also a blessing. It gets absolutely no complaints from me. Very Very happy that the heatsinks on the board are indeed metal, in the images they looked like they could be made of plastic. The DIMM’s look very very close the CPU, but there was plenty of room for my stock wraith spire, along side RAM with decently sized heatsinks. It’s making a good work horse overclocker.

Edited… found the other one its at the bottom… also bought a 16gb kit 3000 MHz and at first it wouldn’t work at full speed but after UEFI update it does now. Thank you AMD, its nice to have you back. Also also I got that AIO water cooler and now the Ryzen 5 1600 hits 4.3 GHz. I’m very pleased.Fan header, one more fan header would of gotten it 5 stars. Paired it with a Ryzen 5 1600 and Corsair LPX Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) 3000 MHz, well I have to say I’m impressed. After a bios update its capable of overclocking the cpu from 3.2 GHz to 3.9 GHz @ 1.37v and the ram is at 2933 @ 1.38v. But I did have to loosen ram timings from cl15 to cl16 because it would glitch while playing videos. Back to the comment I made at the beginning about fan headers, keep the motherboard as cool as possible. Had to order more fans for the case VIVO “Smart” MICRO-ATX Tower, one of the fans that came with the case was broken so the one that was working had to work overtime and is very loud.PS240mm AIO water cooler is on its way and when it arrives I’m going for the big 4GHzPSStemps are under 60c with stock cooler under load

Works great, everything fired right up for me just fine. I did update bios as recommended by msi and every other build guide I looked up which is very easy to do. The tomahawk looks great with the heat sinks at the top and red led lights. If the red doesn’t fit your color scheme you turn them off with software, I like running mine on the breathe function then I have every other light just running normal. My ryzen 5 1600 is only running at 3.6 ghz as my system is gpu bound but I am sure with my cooler master masterliquid lite 120 cooler I could get in the low 4’s. I have watched like 4 vids on the new b450 mobos and I still don’t know what is new or better on them. The msi b450 tomahawk looks great too but I worry the top left heat sink would get in the way of my cooler radiator extending from the rear exhaust. Anyway this is a great medium range mobo and I have not experienced any of the issues in other reviews and assume the issue is related to bios updates not performed properly, msi suggests doing so in the included paperwork.

Great board. There are a few issues though. My Corsair Vengeance 3200 mhz ram cannot reach 3200, and it can only reach 2933 even with the latest 1.4 uefi bios. Also, it’s not MSI’s fault but my ElGato HD60 Pro does not work in the express lanes of the mobo, and it only works in the first PCIe 16x 8x slot which is for the GPU. ElGato and MSI should have taken care of this because Ryzen was promoted as a workstation/streaming product. It does not come with an M.2 shield cover, and I was a little disappointed because there are several features that are missing in the UEFI that the X370 boards have. Like upping the voltage to the SOC for example is something that can’t be done on this board, and that’s essential for getting stable overclocks. But, it still works okay for the price. Hope some bios updates will be rolled out for the memory issues.

Do not buy if you are going to use Ryzen chips with integrated graphics. The one I received had an older BIOS version that was not compatible without an update. The website says it is compatible but new stock boards must not be available yet. This was not an issue for me because I knew of the possible issue before hand and I have an older AM4 CPU laying around to do the update. If you don’t have that option it can be very hard to source one in a rural area. If you have the time you can also get a loaner CPU from AMD. That being said once the update was done this board works great. Overclocking is simple and four RAM slots if you have 4 gig sticks of DDR4 and want to get to 16 gig.

I wanted to give this more stars but I like how it looks. But If you guys buy this mobo with the AMD Ryzen Gen 2 processors (GPU embedded with CPU) you’ll more than likely need to find a way to update the BIOS before it boots up correctly. I spend 3 weeks trouble shooting this, and then another 2 weeks working with AMD to get a “Boot Kit” so I can update the BIOS.

Not a top of the line AM4 board, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t work. I went for this one as it has 2 case fan headers. Has some sublte lighting on it you can change too. It does this thing where it ramps up the fans for a second when you turn on your PC, but I don’t really mind it. Had poblems with RAM speed until I flashed the BIOS.

Before again to this review I have to tell you please, update the bios before you download and install all the drivers because this could be a major headache. Learn from my lesson and you won’t experience the headache i went through of trial and error on hardware. So once you load up a usb drive with the new bios, and update it, everything has been running smoothly. No BSODs that plagued me for nearly 3 hours, before the update. It runs as it should and i highly recommend it, as it fits in my apevia x qpack 3 mini cube pc case perfectly.

Excellent motherboard, although I’ve always liked MSI over other brands really is a very good motherboard. It is beautiful and simple to install; By updating the BIOS and activating the XMP option, you configure the memory at the speed you need without manually entering the values. With applications like MSI Afterburner, Gamming APP and Command Center you can configure all the values of the cooler, Game Boost, etc. easily. Perhaps the only detail is that the led of the mother card are only red, even if you change the color in Gamming APP the CPU cooler if it changes but the ones in the mother card do not.

I bought this MOBO on May 3, 2017 and I was waiting until now before I reviewed it just encase I ran into any problems.I paired this board with a Ryzen 5 1600 and I’ve been running it overclocked at 3.8ghz and I’ve been using the XMP settings for my RAM since day one and still have not run into any cooling, or technical problems. Bios is easy to install and update. UEFI is sleek and very user friendly. Has more USB ports then most micro ATX AM4 MOBO 8 total on the back (4×2.0 4×3.1), and connections for up to 6 (4×2.0 2×3.1) more on the front. For the price you can’t beat this micro ATX MOBO my only complaint is that there are only 2 system Fan connectors (counting cpu fan header) so if you want more then 2 fans make sure your fans have a Molex Connector before you purchase. This board has lasted me almost 8 months as of writing this and I expect it to last me several years without any problems (will update review if something happens)

Here’s what’s with this motherboard. To me, the design is really nice. The LED lights located next to the CPU and RAM Slots are useful, and while I am getting problems with the AMD Processors that most people have heard of, instead of using this motherboard, you should find a revamped one that will support processors, like the AMD Ryzen 5 2400 G with built in graphics. This also comes with removable braces for the CPU Fan. Overall, I am quite satisfied with my very first motherboard.

Have yet to check the BIOS for an update and then experiment with overclocking the Ryzen 5 1600 CPU I have. Over all the board is solid, and given the black and silver color scheme it went really nice with the black SATA cables with white ends. Overall it is a solid board and very reasonably priced. My only complaint is that even though it has an M.2 slot, there are only 4 SATA connectors on the board and with a Blu-Ray drive that only leaves 3 additional connectors for hard drives. Would of liked to of seen at least 6 SATA connectors on the board, and stepping up to the X370 was not worth it since I have no plans for crossfire and some of the other features I will not make use of.

A good motherboard with better features than many other B350 motherboards. However, at the time of this writing and using the latest BIOS (7B00v13), I have been unable to get my RAM to run at its rated speed and it is listed on the boards QVL. For reference, the RAM being used is 2X8GB 3200mhz Corsair (CMK16GX4M2B3200C16W) and is running at 2933mhz.The BIOS is straightforward, though there was an issue when overclocking where the BIOS reported 3.8ghz on the CPU but it wasn’t sticking once into Windows. This was resolved via CMOS reset and has worked perfectly since.I would recommend this to anyone who wants to run an overclocked Ryzen 7 and has no plans for SLI. However, for people going with Ryzen 5 or not planning to overclock, I’d suggest looking at the cheaper B350 boards.

This motherboard came with Ryzen 3000 series capability. I was able to install a Ryzen 5 3600 chip with no difficulty, no bios updates needed. Nice cheap board if you don’t need all the bells and whistles. Highly recommend it

So far so good..Setup and installation was normal.I used the A12 9800…I haven’t tried to overclock the cpu, or memory but I am running 4 RX 560s + the APU to mine ZEC and the board is stable and solid.. impressed as I usually only buy Gigabyte boards even if they cost a bit more.I updated the Bios no problem and MSI has a ton of utility’s for this board. This board was at a great price and I wanted to test the new AM4 chipset and APU and even tho I don’t like red the board looks better than any I ever owned. The lights on the bored can be controlled by the MSI gaming app.Anyway if you can pick up this board around 50 $ it’s a good value.I will try out a Ryzen cpu eventually with this board.

Good motherboard, easy to install, good i/o shield. So far I’ve only got my Corsair Vengeance LPX C15 memory kit running at 2400MHz but I’m hoping the next bios update will help out with that. The board has red leds so rgb builders beware, but I think it its tasteful and looks good in my system.Needs more memory support, but otherwise good.

So I had this board for just over a month when and I was relatively happy with it. It looked good, and except for a ridiculous boot time, it was playing games and working as it should. Then, it lost its will to live. Anytime I booted up something resource intensive, my computer would black out. Black screen, no keyboard, no mouse, but the motherboard was still on. At first I thought it was the video card failing, so I returned it, but the issues persisted. So I purchased an Asus ROG Stryx, and my problem has gone away.I’m going to allow my 4-star review to remain because the board and bios have a nice refreshing look, and I’m going to assume that I just got a bad one, because it was working beautifully with a Ryzen 5 and a GTX 1060.

works great. i mean, it delivers what it says. if you don’t like it, you should have been researching what you need and not buying the wrong thing.oh, by the way, in case anyone tells you otherwise, you dont need to buy a cpu fan. it comes with one. and now i have a spare fan. :-)*** UPDATE, 12 months later ***still works great. no problems at all. not sure what the handful of haters are on about… maybe theirs was damaged in shipping or something? mine wasnt. Maybe they didnt research what processor, memory, and graphics card was compatible with this motherboard? I did:uP : AMD Ryzen 5 1600graphics: GTX 1050 Ti cardram: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400 (PC4 19200)took the case apart a couple months ago, to clean the dust out, and everything looks and works good. i use it every day for gaming, school, SW Dev, etc.

I am writing this review to enter into the MSI Reward ProgramA budget board no doubt, however this should not deter people from it.That being said don’t expect anything super amazing, expect the expected a decent board that is able to work with some nice gaming hardware. The BIOS is one of the best parts of this board I was happy to see one that wasn’t so ugly and barebones.Pros:-BIOS-price-designCons:earlier BIOS versions of this board had a lot of problems, thankfully the one I was received was updated already.

Ryzen 1600x @4.0ghz 1.381v, 16gb Gskill flare x @3200I heavily researched all of the matx options for Ryzen before finally deciding on the mortar. All of the boards out there now (Mid July 2017) seem to have some sort of trade off but in the end I am very happy with my purchase. I knew that I would be overclocking and after researching the other matx am4 boards it seems that the mortar has the best power configuration (Actually has load line calibration unlike some others). I also have more use for a usb c port than a vga port. After building my new Ryzen 1600x system I booted up and immediately updated the bios with the most recent one from msi. After installing windows I started to dig in and see what kind of overclock I could get. Overclocking the memory was pleasantly painless which was a relief after hearing that this was an issue at Ryzen’s launch. It recognized my Gskill flare x 3200 kit with 14 14 14 14 34 timings with no issues and has been running at 3200 trouble free. Now for the issues. I don’t seem to be able to use the bios to overclock the processor. Every time I try it defaults to 2.2 ghz. Something here in the bios still needs to be tweaked. Luckily by setting the cpu stuff in the bios to auto and using AMD’s Ryzen master software (Which has some of its own issues) I was able to get a stable 4ghz across all cores at 1.381v. I haven’t tried to go for 4.1 yet. I’ve tested with cinebench and by playing games and verified speeds by using cpu z. I’m using a corsair h115i aio in push pull and the cpu stays nice and cool all the time. The other minor issue I have is that I can’t find anywhere in the bios to turn the leds off. I almost didn’t buy this board because of the leds. I hate leds and rgb because i’m old, get off my lawn. EDIT Downloading the “MSI Gaming App” will allow you to disable the leds. Otherwise this software is useless.I’ve only put this system together in the last few days so only time will tell how things hold up. The biggest point to take away is that the newest bios allows quality memory to be clocked at the appropriate xmp profile at least up to 3200. 4 4 pin pwm fan headers is better than some competitors as well. I’m also using a samsung 960 evo 250g for my os drive and that has also been superfast and drama free with this board.

Great board for 6 core and lower Ryzen CPUs, it doesn’t have enough cpu power pins to full power a 8 or more core cpu but it will still work with them, that said the board is a very good budget board and if you’re looking to make a cheap AM4 pc, for budget gaming or budget school/office work, this is a good board for that.Ps. It’ll need a bios update if you want to use a CPU newer than the 3000 series, including the 4000 series which is what I used on it, I had a 2600x hanging around in another better build so I was fine but figured I’d let other people know 4000 and 5000 series Ryzen CPUs will need a bios update but can work on it

What a great buy for a first time build or a pro builder, has great capabilities. I run a AMD raydon 5 2600 processor stock out of the box runs around 3.4ghz. With the easy game mode button in the bios (which only turns off “cool & quiet mode” and auto fan mode) i get 3.85ghz easily. I was able to OC at 4.1ghz manually with great stability. The option to overclock your ram in the Bios is awesome too, my ram out of box 2400mt/s after OC I got it to 2933mt/s stable. Just keep in mind AMD makes GREAT product but heat is its worst enemy, make cooling your processor and board a priority while building your machine for optimal, stable performance… With that said..Only “Cons” I have is “some” performance changes made in the bios doesn’t show in Windows 10 pro although the performance is there. Must be a bug in the bios. All in all great bang for your buck if you want a great performing gaming rig!

It works. It’s not the best or fastest but that’s not what you are buying this for. Make sure you have the latest BIOS updates. MSI dropped a new one the same night my install was taking place, so I spent a week wondering why the system was so slow and my 3200mhz Corsair LPX memory wouldn’t post above the 1600’s. Once I flashed the new BIOS it all worked perfectly and clocked as advertised.I would also like to add that the warehouse version I received had been improperly installed once before with oversize screws, probably by someone who had no idea what they were doing. This caused some cosmetic wear to the reinforced mounting sockets, but no significant damage.

I purchased this to do an upgrade to an OLD HP Slimline desktop that I owned. It was easy to pull out the existing motherboard and replace it with this one…no issue with it fitting. Also installed new memory and a new AMD CPU. Booted right up first time with ZERO issues! Now this is a general use PC, email, online shopping, YouTube videos etc. but works great. I’m very happy with this board and the upgrade that it was the foundation for!

This is a great motherboard within the $100-ish range. The bios, although not perfect, is easy to navigate once you get to know it. The built in over clock mode which adds .5ghz to your CPU speed is a good start to anyone wanting to dabble in overclocking. However you might want to put the core voltage below what it automatically sets it to. I have a 1700 which is recommended to not go about 1.4 volts and the built-in overclock put it at 1.44 volts. Although not the biggest issue it can drastically reduce the lifespan of your CPU. The boot priority options are a little weird, i couldn’t find the drive i normally boot from unless i went to the boot override option. Besides the flawed BIOS, the board itself looks pretty good. I love the red/black color scheme and it looks really good when paired with some red led fans. The rear I/O although not amazing is somewhat decent. 3 USB 3s and 3 USB 2s isnt the greatest but if your monitor has a USB pass-through and your case a few USB ports on it you should be fine. The USB type C is a nice touch but I don’t know how often I will be using it unless i get a new phone. Overall on the somewhat cheaper side of gaming motherboards this is a solid choice for anyone on a mid range budget. Get yourself a good single card like a 1070/1080 to pair with this and you will have a good rig to last you at least 5 or so years.

Good motherboard although not a good choice if you wanted to add a better sound card and a large gamers card at the same time. The larger video card will block the pci port under, but if you are not against external sound card then you should be fine. As for the rest of the install pretty straight forward, nothing to complicated for first time builders to understand.

First generation Ryzen is flawless. If you are planning on installing a second generation Ryzen, make sure the BIOS has at least the G revision. Tried installing second generation Ryzen with older BIOS resulted in error when booting. The EZ Debug LED’s would light RAM, CPU, then nothing. It leads you to believe that you have a graphics card (VGA) problem, but you do not. If the BIOS is before H or G revision, you will need a first generation Ryzen chip installed in order to POST into the BIOS and perform and update via USB. The latest BIOS can be found at MSI’s website under the B350 Tomahawk product page. Click on support, and the links should be presented to you. Once the BIOS is up to date, no problems at all. Easy as pie. Been there, done that. Any question? I am happy to help.

UPDATE: GPU led was gone after recent BIOS update with M-flash and a lot more advanced overclocking and other bios options have been added definitely made tuning a lot more precise. So kudos there.~The Msi Command Center isn’t the best for Overclocking in my opinion considering it’s lack of tuning functions while operating & OC’ing in the OS. Also It keeps setting a static (constant) processing state 3.5ghz (as an example) and doesn’t fluctuate up or down. That being said I’ve turned gameboost on so it’s not just constantly running at 3.9 ghz and fluctuates from the base clock instead..I’m using~MSI tomahawk b350~Ryzen 1300x Overclocked with gameboost easily to 3.9 easily with the stock wraith cooler @ only 45C~Corsair Vengence 3000mhz Overclocked to 3200mHz easily in the BIOS~EVGA 1050 Ti GPU Overclocked to 1831 MHz easily~EVGA 500b (500watt) PSU~Fsp CMT210 case…This was my first AMD build and first MSI board so getting use to the BIOS settings and UI took a little bit other than the problems listed above I’m definitely impressed/happy with the build especially being under $600 so far.

Great motherboard for the price, I paired it with an A8-9600 and 8GB’s of RAM. The whole setup was used to replace a old and failing Athlon 64 build. The board has 4 SATAs which is nice, an extra plug for a System Fan, and super fast USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports. I was very pleased with the board, everything worked out of box with no issues, for the price I was extremely surprised by how much features it has and by how well everything performs.

I would like to give this board a 5 star rating. Why… well..Pros:Reasonably pricedB350 boardMemory up to 32 GB (16×2)M.2 slot for again readable priced boardLED’s that can be controlled by the MSI gaming appCon’s:It’s been out for quite a few months and MSI STILL have not released a board BiOS update. Months!!!I got an R5 1400 and it works great with this board, expect one thing. Overclocking. The BiOS is bugged to when you increase the voltage, it throttles the CPU to about 1.55 GHz. I could not understand why my benchmarking scores were so low when I had upgraded from an FX 8320. There is a way to get around this, and that’s to use the Ryzen Master program. It works flawlessly, but it is annoying to go in and set the overclock each time as I forget. It would be nice to see MSI update the BiOS so I can overclock it in there and not worry about setting the overclock.Other than that, it is a nice board.

MSI has the best online support and website when it comes to product information and documentation. That little detail goes a long way when it comes to bios support and product matching. Showing clock speeds for ram, or socket support for diffrent processors can almost be classified information with some manufacturers. As far as this specific MB, micro ATX board can compromise on a lot of features, from fan headers to usb suport. This board has an m.2slot, 3.0 support and boasts a great layout for dimms and fan headers. You will also have the ability to perform over clocks on ryzen series chips and graphics cars. 👌

The board has been working great so far paired up with my Ryzen 7 1700. The only reason i gave it 4 stars is because when i set up my build the board would turn on but i got a no signal message on my monitor. After some research I found out that I needed to remove the CMOS battery for a few minutes and install it again, after doing this like 3 times it worked. After that I installed some drivers and haven’t had any problems. So if you have some problems with your board do some research first, you might be able to fix it no problem.

Enjoying this board. When I first put my build together it wouldn’t post and the GPU “EZ Debug” light would stay lit. I tried reseating over and over and resetting the cmos with no luck. I put in a known to work gt 750 card and it posted just fine. I installed windows, and figured might as well try the 1060 I bought with it and it posted just fine. I don’t know why it didn’t post with it in the first place but it’s working great now. I have my CPU stable at 4.0ghz and my GPU at 2000mhz and it works like a charm. I didn’t have to update the bios for everything to work, still stumped why it didn’t post with the 1060 originally but does now and is working great.

Seems to work good to me, no issues so far. Booted from my drive, just had to reauthorize Win10, no issues there. I had no reason to do a fresh install, its sooooo much easier to just boot from the old drive vs reinstalling all my programs and vst plugins. It’s super f’n annoying to have to dig up a million license codes.I’m not over clocking. Seems like overclocking would be easy enough. The BIOS seems OK, has easy/advanced options like most. Now, personally… I don’t like the white light LED’s behind the mobo but some might. Also… there is a super annoying red LED on the front of the board, I think it has something to do with having an on chip GPU or something. Anyways, it doesn’t turn off after booting…. SO I stuck a piece of electric tape over it. I’m not going to knock a star based on the crappy LED’s but there should be away in the BIOS to run all the LED’s off imo. The red light on the front is super stupid and bright though, it looks like crap.BIOS flashing was super easy with a thumb drive, no issues, really easy. I don’t think the board has a/b BIOS options but it should if it doesn’t.Can’t speak to the onboard audio, I have a sound card.

When I first started up my computer it told me I had a memory configuration change and wanted me to press F1 or F2 to do something, but would not recognize my keyboard. I fixed this by simply rebooting.I had no problems overclocking my Corsair RAM to 3200Mhz with a Ryzen 1600 after updating the BIOS and using AMD’s updated driver (I did not try to overclock before installing the updates). The BIOS seemed easy to navigate with the arrow keys and it was a breeze to just turn XMP mode on and have it auto select the RAM’s memory profile. The board itself feels very solid, almost to a fault (it was very heavy), but I felt confident in not bending or damaging it. The aesthetic is pretty cool. I like the red LEDs, but I can only see it through holes in my case (no glass panes here!).Every connector worked as expected. The built-in audio sounds decent to me.My biggest annoyance was the IO shield – one of the tabs covers the USB 3 slot (by the USB C port) by default, and I didn’t notice until I had already screwed the motherboard in. I had to take the motherboard back out to bend the tab back on the IO shield (it was the only tab that blocked a port). Make sure you bend this tab back before you screw the motherboard in!

Update 2: PROS for MSI as a CompanyOverall, as you can see from the below, I don’t write fake reviews. I write the good ones when earned and negative ones when deserved. In my opinion, MSI has earned 5 stars. They made a lifetime customer out of me by exchanging my 1st motherboard and now that I am building my 3rd system, I took a look at at its main competitor’s reviews and decided to stick with MSI. I had previously bought MSI because it was cheaper than the big competitor but now I’m paying equal value.Update 1: Installed Win10 Pro and working beautifully.CONS(1) If you want more fans, you will need a hub.(2) The instructions (be sure to line up the correct screw locations for a micro-ATX and look up where to plug the power switch/reset goes). Just search for a video from one of the top tekkies online for an installation walkthrough.Mobo has an m2 slot for fast SSD memory. I highly recommend getting M2 for speed.OVERALLThis motherboard is perfect for casual use.

I felt like I got a steal with this board. It’s built nice, and fits beautifully in the case. The overclocking features that come stock with the board, are easy, and straight forward. Easy for someone who hasn’t overclocked before, which is great! The board even comes with a nice little strip of LED lighting that just adds to the overall quality of this board. It looks fantastic, and runs even better! I would highly consider staying with MSI boards down the line, as well as recommending them to others!I am writing this review to enter into the MSI Reward Program!!

Great little Mobo. It can overclock ram and CPU. I have a 2600 x on it. Just used the same case as my son’s old fx8300.The only thing that was a problem was the location of the pci e 1x slot. My video card didn’t let me plug in my wifi card.

Had this motherboard for about three months before I upgraded to an X370 board and had no major issues with it, but there are a few caveats that come with buying a budget mobo.Pros:-Looks great for the price-mATX form factor good for compact builds-BIOS is easy to use-Reinforced PCI-E x16 slot (it may be placebo, but it’s nice to have)Cons:-Only 2 SATA ports, this may be a limitation of the chipset, but I’m not 100% sure-Could not get my 3000 MHz TridentZ RGB RAM to run at advertised speed (but did get it to 2800 MHz, which I was fine with)-Lack of AIO pump header as well as true RGB lighting functionalityOther thoughts:-As with most B350 chipset boards, the overclocking left a little more to be desired, but the OC’ing was quite serviceable for the price and great for someone who isn’t going to push their system too much anyway-Slight instability; with my overclock the board did not always POST on the first try, and would sometimes reset my RAM speed to stock 2133 without it being obvious during boot.Final thoughts:Good board for entry level Ryzen users with nice visual aesthetics, but if you have an extra $50-$60 to spend on a motherboard then I would recommend buying an X370 chipset board, as you will have better overclocking results and system stability. But for the casual gamer who just wants a board that’s cheap and looks good, this motherboard is a good buy.

Bought as a replacement after my last motherboard died unexpectedly. This is apparently the same as the Tomahawk board (components-wise) , only with fewer bells and whistles. Had no issue lightly overclocking my RAM and CPU, though for any serious OCing you’d likely need a more expensive board.Compatible with the Ryzen 1000 and 2000 series processors, though you may need to update the BIOS for the 2000s. No experience with the new 3000s though.

Great budget Motherboard and works well with a Ryzen 1800x and 32Gb of DDR4 ram. Plenty of BIOS features and decent amount of connections, although extra SATA ports would have been welcomed.I would have given it 5 stars, but I experienced a few issues to start with due to the BIOs and Chipset drivers. Since then, there have consistent updates which have made my system more stable and I’ve not experienced any issue since.

ATTENTION BUYERS:This motherboard does not come with an updated bios. This means if your Ryzen CPU model starts with a 2 (For example: Ryzen 3 2200G) then your CPU WILL NOT WORK WITH THIS MOTHERBOARD. You’ll have to take the motherboard into your local computer shop to have them update the BIOS on it or you will just have to build your PC with an older gen of Ryzen CPU’s (For example: Ryzen 7 1700X).I Hope this helps. Don’t make the mistake I made.

When the board came I was so excited to build my PC. It had quite a heft to it and I didn’t expect it to be so big and be so “Fresh”. The CPU installment went pretty well the only thing that caught me off guard was that I didn’t know it needed 9 screws to install and for the default AMD cooler bracket to be taken off. Other that bios and everything else was a breeze but I’m unable to use my HDMI port and I gave up on looking for solutions since a “simple google, Reddit, forum, search didn’t work”. I’m not sure if it’s defective or a problem with my Ryzen 5.

Nice looking and fairly well priced AM4 motherboard. Compatible with Ryzen 5 1600 out the box, haven’t tested any other chips in it. One, fairly major, complaint is that I cannot get my RAM (duel channel Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000mhz) to run any higher than 2666mhz. I enable the second AXMP profile and the system won’t post until I reset the CMOS. Ryzen chips thrive on high frequency memory and this board advertises compatibility with upto 3200mhz memory. I’m sure this will be fixed in later BIOS updates but for now it seems to be an issue.

Other than the fact that it was awkward to put my Ryzen 5 1600 in because of the different placing (the manual did not give a guide how to install this particular CPU), it does what it needs to and works well with my gaming rig.

The B350 pcmate has so far been treating me quite well. The bios is as promised quite pleasant to use, and the old compatibility problems have by this point been mostly fixed. In order to achieve optimal functionality you may want to update your bios ASAP after purchase, but fortunately, the process is quite streamlined. Some minor complaints I have, are the the board appears to de-energize peripherals during loading, meaning that entering bios requires you to repeatedly press DEL in order to hit the sweet spot where the keyboard is actually on, and that MSI’s LED controller –mystic light– is pretty crappy. Minor to be sure.

Building my first computer was pretty challenging, especially when using this board and the new ryzen at the time. No issues with compatibility it seems, though I did do my homework before adding any RAM to make sure that it was compatible. Didn’t have any issues with a Ryzen 5 1500x CPU either.I like the diagnostic LED’s for the CPU, HDD and Video Card. Those were nice for my first PC build from scratch.Instruction manual is OK. BIOS is easy to navigate for a basic user.

I really like this motherboard. I think it’s the only one you can get right now that is not black, heck, you cant even get green or blue nowadays.I like the heat sinks that cover the Voltage regulators as some don’t come with that. Has plenty of fan headers, USB ports, etc. I only had one slight problem with a wireless TEKNET mouse, that caused a USB port to stop working until I rebooted the machine. So I switched to a wired mouse. (the mouse does work on my laptop just fine) and last of all there are a ton of settings in the BIOSI can hit 4.00 GHz on the CPU and 3200 MHz on the RAM no problem.I’m using the Ryzen 2400g and TridentZ RGB RAM

Great motherboard for the money spent. Over clocks Ryzen 7 1700x to 4gz easily. Make sure to do bios update and it should support all ram to 3200mhz xmp profiles. Not a lot of USB ports on rear but has many onboard. Only 4 sata which is fine I use the available M.2 slot for a boot NVMe. Not a fan of the uefi setup. I prefer asus’. My son is enjoying the upgrade to ryzen from old fx proc.

MSI has kept up the BIOS updates on this board, and I’ve been really impressed with it. It was one of the first boards to get AGESA updates and it was quick as well. I’m currently able to get 3000mhz off my DDR4 3000mhz ram, and have no stability issues whatsoever. The BIOS itself is fantastic, and easy to navigate. Overall really impressed with this motherboard, and I’m planning on buying another one soon to upgrade my wife’s PC as well. The audio is fantastic, and works as expected. Don’t expect anything mind blowing, but it works fine for gaming and listening to music.I currently have my R1600 overclocked to 4ghz, and MSI’s XAMP profile worked like a charm. I didn’t have to modify any of the XAMP profile to get a stable 4ghz.Overall, really impressed with this board. As a person with 20 years of PC building experience, I highly recommend this motherboard.

Have screws ready! Luckily I still had the mounting screws from my previous board. This only comes with the 4 screws for the CPU mount and 1 for an M.2 SSD but nothing to actually mount it to your case. Besides that, it gets the job done! Very basic and rather lackluster but for the price, what can you expect? It could be worse. 🙂

I had some troubles with this board initially, but after re-seating everything and getting a better HSF, it’s rock solid. Overclocking is easy enough, board looks good, and bios update was easy with a flash drive. Rocking my 1600x at 4.0ghz on all cores at very solid temps. I haven’t tried to go higher than 4ghz. It also runs my Flare X 3200 2×8 Ram kit at rated speed and timings, no issue. I wanted the comparable Asus B350 board (Rog Strix), but it had no rebate and was way more at the time. My last Asus AM3+ board was the best board I’d ever had, but I took a chance on MSI. I am not using the onboard sound, but I am very happy with everything else about this board. Now to just wait and see if the $30 rebate shows up!Update!! I was having problems with cold boot not working, sometimes taking 3-5 times to post, probably due to not enough DRAM voltage at startup. The new bios, released 1-29-2018, after flashing, fixed it.

This motherboard is great for what it offers. The only gripe I have with it is the BIOS. My overclock configurations for RAM and very rarely the CPU clocks as well will revert to base clock after restarting the computer or shutting it down. This might just be due to current RAM compatibility and assume it will be resolved in a future BIOS update. My current fix is to leave it on.

My motherboard did NOT come Ryzen 2000 ready. I was forced to purchase another CPU to update the bios. Now that I have my board works great. It works as advertised.I was sent older stock. If you order this board you are entering into a lottery and if you lose this lottery you will be forced to update the bios. If you contact MSI they will ask you to RMA the board which can take 6 weeks. If you contact AMD you will, at the least, wait 8 days for a boot kit.

I’ve had this board since Ryzen launched. While I experienced some early compatibility issues, those were sorted pretty out quickly with BIOS updates. I understand some builders frustrations, but reading through the reviews it seems most people giving one star reviews may be newer to building Pc’s, or they bot a bad board. Too often people just try to throw parts together and expect them to work. Go to the MSI website and actually check for compatibility for your components before posting a negative uninformative review on a perfectly fine motherboard.Pros- Great motherboard for the price- Looks good, and the Lee’s on the bottom are a nice touch- BIOS updates since launch have added a lot of additional compatibility with RAM and 2000 series Ryzen APU’s- Easy to install and work with in most tower casesCons- Only one M.2 SSD slot- While the BIOS has gotten better, competition like ASUS is still easier to use- Lack of VRM heat sinks has potential to be a thermal limit on overclocking

I can’t find anything to complain about with this motherboard at this price really. System fan headers are placed in reasonable places, no old school PCI ports wasting space here and I think that the SATA ports are placed in a more logical way than other MSI motherboards at this price (I’m consuming all 4 ports). When you look for the BIOS upgrade for this there ABSOLUTELY is a difference between the arctic and non-arctic versions so be sure to specifically grab the arctic image if you have the arctic board. The white LED accents look really need too and makes the white board pop a bit, but I think I will get a white LED strip for this too to brighten up my case a bit more. Looking at my computer as I type this I honestly forgot if this thing has an M.2 port or not hehe, I believe the slot is behind my GPU which is a bad place to put the M.2 card as it can overheat in such a tight space, so I don’t recommend this board if you want to use an M.2 card.My 1 real gripe with this motherboard is a gripe I have had with all motherboards (minus one board), and that is I HATE the clips or whatever they are that stick out on the rear IO shield. One board I had used this suctioning like gel almost on the back that made the board sink right in and line up so easily. I wish that was a common thing, because it’s possible to run into user error (like this time) and have one of the tabs stick in a port like the Ethernet port and require pulling the board out and resetting it.As for performance and functionality, I haven’t overclocked my Ryzen 1600 yet but plan on it when I get the mounting brackets for my Be Quiet! cooler. With the latest BIOS revision my 3000MHz GSkill Ripjaw set of memory clocked easily to 2933MHz using the A-XMP profile so that’s nice. I don’t care to use the full 3000MHz as 2933 is close enough.

A good motherboard for B350 chipset and restricted budget . If you plan on using it with Ryzen 2000 series , better contact seller and confirm for upgraded stock . I purchased from The Blue_Horse and they were very helpful .The mobo has Ez debug led which is very helpful . The sata port is less than others and the board lacks the visual appearance other boards offer , but you can’t complain for this price range .

Although it is a gaming board I find these boards great for software development and testing especially for CPU intensive servers. Customers had previously reported 17,000 transactions / second on unknown server hardware. This, with an AMD Ryzen 7 ran 30,000 transactions /sec with both the client loader and server only using 50% of the capacity. The board can generate a color display while running behind me out of sight. So it is with gaming boards so I rewarded the board with full points for simulating ‘warmth’.

The board worked well with an R7, but needed a bios update to work with an R5. The only way we could update the bios, aside from sending the board back, was to borrow an R7, boot up with the R7, update the bios, and then swap out the CPU to an R5. It was a bit of a pain, but the board now works fine. I bought the board in March, so hopefully anyone buying the board now will have the BIOS update on it that supports the R5.

Great UI, for serious OC I would highly recommend an X370 though. This board did an awesome job of OCing Corsair LPX Vengeance 2x8GB 3200MHz RAM to the advertised speed using simply the XMP profiles. No manual OCing was even needed. The OC was very stable after stress tests and gaming for a week. This board looks simply awesome though with the LED running around the sound board and the hardware issue LED has already saved me and made OC conflicts easier to handle.Overall, it’s very impressive for the price. I would highly recommend it if you are using RAM and CPU OC profiles from A-XMP rather than doing intensive manual OCing.***One very irritating thing about this mobo is that there’s about a 20-30 second black screen pause when powering your PC on before you have your bios screen prompt show up. It adds that much time to your boot sequence, so it is annoying. I am hoping MSI will patch this soon in upcoming bios updates.

I got this motherboard used and i was surprised it was like new, i received it with its original box and all its accesories. I was a little afraid that it will give me some problems, you know when you buy used things there is always that risk, but it was in excellent condition, both functional and aesthetics.I love the layout of this mobo, it has all the connectors i need. I don’t like that it has pin connectors for com and parallel ports, i guess some people may use it in some cases but those connectors should not be in a gaming motherboard. I wish it didn’t have a vga port either, who uses that port in 2018? Anyway, i guess some people need it.It works great with my AMD R5 1600, Crucial Ballistix ram 8GB at 2666MHz [one module] and MSI RX 560 4GB. I mostly use it to play games but i also do work on this computer, for multitasking is great. I will be upgrading to 16GB when ram prices go down.I gave it 4 stars because it has vga port and pins connectors for com and parallel ports, it’s 2018 people [i know this motherboard was launched last year but it still applies]. Anyway, it’s a great motherboard at an affordable price.

There has been talk of memory problems with Ryzen, but with this motherboard and the G.Skill FlareX memory, I had no problem moving the clock speed for the memory to 3200 and the voltage to 1.35, which the memory and motherboard were rated for. I added a MSI 1060 6gb graphics card and the system is rock solid. I haven’t actually tried to overclock the CPU yet, but I have seen it go slightly over 4GHz, which is it’s max burst speed for the Ryzen 5 1600x. The games I have are smooth with everything cranked up at 1080p. I have no intention of adding another graphics card so the 500 watt EVGA power supply will be plenty. I used a Cosair case that was inexpensive, but solid and works nice. I added another fan to the front and blocked off the spots on top for another fan. The CPU does not come with a cooler and a DEEPCOOL GAMMAXX 400 CPU Cooler was added to the mix. I did not use the heat sink compound supplied, but some ArticCool I had. It is very quiet and runs cool too.I noticed someone else had problems and I wanted to add that I updated to BIOS to the latest version that supports the Ryzen 5. Like I said, no problems and it’s rock solid. The memory was a bit pricey, but I figured if it was made specifically to support the AMD motherboards with the X370 and B350 it would minimize the chances of problems and it looks like it did. I am quite happy. :)One other thing, they mention in the manual and have an additional insert in the box that both state the memory should go in the second and fourth slots counting from the CPU out. The memory part number is F4-3200C14D-16GFX. I am seeing the CPU cores clocking as fast as 4.1 GHz which is fine for me, I plan on burning it all in for a few days and watch the temperatures, I didn’t like the feel of the way the fan mounted, it required attaching one side and rocking the fan over the cpu and I am worried about what that did to the thermal paste. So far the highest temperature seen was 72 degrees C. I plan on using this for gaming and 3D modeling, so the extra cores will come in handy when I need it as a workhorse. I read the manual that came with the motherboard looking for references to memory voltage and the only thing I found was “Based on the processor specification, the memory DIMM voltage below 1.35 is suggested to protect the processor.” base on that I reduced the memory voltage in the BIOS to 1.34 volts and it is still solid.

A thunderbolt port would be nice, but you get what you pay for

I have usually had ASUS motherboards for all my builds, my entire life. This was the first time I switched over to MSI. The price was extremely alluring for this board upon purchase.

IF YOU WANT TO USE RYZEN 2ND GEN CPU (Ryzen 5 2600/x or Ryzen 3 2200G) DO NOT GET THIS MOTHERBOARD YOU CANNOT UPDATE THE BIOS WITHOUT USING A 1ST GEN RYZEN CPU TO LAUNCH THE BIOS.

La compré reacondicionada estado como nueva. Me llegó impecable.

I am using the following parts: – The motherboard $90 – AMD Ryzen 5 3400G 4-core, 8-Thread Unlocked Desktop Processor with Radeon RX Graphics $210 – Crucial P1 1TB 3D NAND NVMe PCIe Internal SSD (CT1000P1SSD8) $140 – USB WiFi Adapter (B08611699V) $20 – Cougar MX330 Case $60 – Power Supply 600W Semi Modular 80+ Bronze Certified, GAMEMAX VP-600-M-RGB – though you can get a much cheaper great brand name power supply than this, like the Thermaltake Smart 500W ATX 12V V2.3/EPS 12V 80 Plus Certified Active PFC Power Supply (PS-SPD-0500NPCWUS-W) $60 – Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3000MHz C15 Desktop Memory Kit – Black (CMK16GX4M2B3000C15) XMP 2.0 $100.99Total: $450 !

It isn’t bad, but it isn’t great. It is a basic, no frills board with out of the box bios support for new cpus. Only 1 CPU and 1 (rear) system fan header – I would have liked another fan header for front fans. Honestly the actual build quality feels a little cheap, but for $50 or so what else can one expect?

Don’t think too much, go for it. It was delivered without any damage.

I can’t read apparently, and didn’t realize the motherboard has relatively bright red LEDs going around it. Looks pretty cool but doesn’t mesh with my case (again, my fault). The mount holes didn’t fit the wraith cooler that came with my Ryzen CPU, but 3/4 holes did in fact work fine, so it’s all good. Haven’t had any problems with it. Also, during OS boot, it covers up the whole screen with the low quality image with huge letters “GAMING PLUS” but I have an SSD and my pc boots in about 10 seconds so again, not really a problem. Also, it only has two SATA ports so if you’re a storage freak, it won’t work well– I have an SSD and a mechanical hard drive and that’s all I need, so it works great.

I like the board. Came with the version 1 bios. I upgraded to version 4 without any issues. This helped the post times substantially. Before bios update was insanely slow to post. I almost thought there was a problem before the update. One thing to be aware of: If you’re wanting to use Windows 7 you’ll have a hard time because there is little to no support for Windows 7 with AM4. My keyboard and mouse just would not function inside a windows 7 environment. even the install disk. I would get no response from my keyboard or mouse. I made sure it was enabled in bios, I made sure i had the devices plugged into to USB2 ports.I ended up just settling on Windows 10(bleh).I heard that a ps/2 keyboard might work, but I didn’t have one to test with.

Does its job. It was easy to install everything and put in my case. The ATX power ran into my hard drive cage and required some very tight sliding and fitting. This could be due to my case or the placement of power being too high (most cases have hard disks on the bottom, not the middle and usually are far enough away). The price was right, but even though I met the deadline for the rebate, MSI had nothing on file for this particular board (oh well). The color scheme is nice to look at when the case is open, but I can see some power users wanting more color with a see through case. There are only 4 SATA ports which is fine for me, but makes on-board raiding a bit difficult. Bootup is quick, but not as fast as my previous military grade motherboard. With the same SSD boot drive, I went from a 10 second boot (according to Win10 Task manager) to 18 seconds. Still much better than my old 386. Definitely worth a grab if you want in on Ryzen action, but don’t want a massive or costly board.

Update: 6/8: This is a bit delayed but I did want to update my review. I upped the rating to 5 stars for several reasons. The reason for the bump to 5 stars: AMD Customer Service, ease of BIOS update, performance of the Ryzen/MSI system, and the price point for the system.AMD shipped me the boot kit I needed to update the BIOS on the motherboard for free. No shipping charges at all. I thought that was great customer service. The BIOS update was dead simple. Downloaded the BIOS update to old computer, put it on a USB Thumb drive, and then boot the new box with the USB Thumb drive plugged in. Of course, I had to do that with the processor that AMD loans out. Once the update was finished, unplug everything, remove the boot chip, put in the new Ryzen, and re-boot.Since I have updated the BIOS, there have been at least 2 updates to the Ryzen drivers. MSI and AMD have some nice software to make the system configuration very dynamic, depending on task and what not. There is a very good review on Tom’s Hardware page about the Ryzen setup if you want some really in depth technical info, including benchmarks. The only games I have really played on the system so far are Rift and Skyrim. They both work much better since the latest drivers have been installed so make sure you update if you end up with a Ryzen system.I am really impressed with this system considering that it doesn’t have a video card installed. I would not hesitate to build another or to build one of these for someone else. If you are looking for a good computer to pretty much do anything including some gaming, I would put a box built on the Ryzen chip on your list for consideration. The price point is very attractive!Update 3/15: Bumped it a star. AMD contacted me already which was fantastic. They are sending a boot kit and arranging for shipping back which was very nice. I’m awaiting the chip so I can update the BIOS. Hopefully that will go smoothly. I really want to see what this build will do. I’ll update after I’ve received the chip and get things going. Then I can actually review the hardware instead of whine about how it doesn’t work out of the box. Guess I’m just trying to share my experience since this has been very abnormal from my previous build experiences. BIOS updates are normal, not booting because of needing a BIOS update is something I’ve just experienced.I bought a AMD Ryzen 5 2400G chip to use in this motherboard. I’m only giving this product a 2 because I don’t know if I like it yet or not. I know that I do not like the hassel that this project has turned into. I received a motherboard that was manufactured about a year ago. The issue is that the BIOS is not updated to allow this new AMD APU to boot. I emailed MSI. They responded quickly but that was useless. It took 4 calls to get the correct number. The numbers on the website and their app are not the correct numbers for motherboard support. Once I had the right number, the MSI person was helpful. Sort of. More like, they had useful information. They said my BIOS was too old to support the new chip. They said I had to contact AMD and request a boot kit. AMD has a program where they will send you a low end APU that the board will boot with. You can use it to update the BIOS to support the new chip. They have several stipulations to be able to take advantage of this program. It seems AMD has their hearts in the right place but this build is turning out to be a pain in the neck. I heard back from AMD right away but have had no updates since I responded with the information they requested. Worst case, I’ll send the APU back and figure something else out. I was really excited to build this box to see how the APU performed. Now I’m just tired of dealing with having a pile of non-functioning parts. If I get this thing running, I’ll update this review.

Its a great Budget board for a Ryzen 3 system. but it does apear that CPU overclocking has been disabled with the newer bios.
