Don’t listen to the people on here who say this motherboard is compatible with all Ryzen CPUs. It is not.Great Motherboard for the price. Unfortunately the Bios on this board isn’t compatible with the new Ryzen 5 2400G or Ryzen 3 2200G.I contacted MSI and they said to download the new bios onto the mother board and it would function with the new Ryzen 5 2400g chip. I asked them how I was supposed to upload the new bios to the motherboard and they said I would need to install a compatible processor on the motherboard in and then I could install the new BIOS. I tols them I don’t have another Ryzen CPU to install onto the board nor would I be willing to purchase another Ryzen CPU just for the purpose of updating the Bios. So MSI offered to have me ship them the motherboard and they would update the BIOS and send it back to me but it would take 4 weeks time.Otherwise a great board for the price. I would buy again once they start shipping the board with the updated BIOS.

Not bad for a cheap gaming motherboard, i was kind of disappointed that i was only able to plug in 3 fans but hey it is what it is. Overall if you are trying to build your first gaming pc and not break the bank, this is the way to go.

Great motherboard! I love the BIOS on MSI motherboards. It was very easy to overclock my corsair lpx memory to its rated 3000 MHz once I set the ODT to 40 ohms and the voltage to 1.3V. I was also able to get my ryzen 1600 to 3.8 GHz on ~1.4V. Not sure if my CPU is the limiting factor or the 4 phase power delivery. This is a great motherboard and it looks GORGEOUS! I would definitely recommend it for a small-form-factor PC build. (The debug LEDs are really helpful for overclocking. It’s nice to know what causes the POST to fail.)10/10 would buy again!

Good mobo for the price, more ram slots would be nice but with ddr4 they come in pairs of 2 anyway.FAIR WARNING-contact the seller or manufacturer to make sure they update bios, otherwise you will have to get a gen 1 ryzen cpu to update the bios

Built a system with my son just for some family time. Turned out AWESOME!!!! I will never go back to a cheap built store brand computer again. Pretty much a budget built computer but never have I seen the performance of a PC this good!!!! The red LEDs on the MB mixed with blue fan lights give an electric purple glow! Can’t wait to buy more MSI products to continue upgrading!…..UPDATE: received product in February 2018, it is now September and the motherboard has been having issues for a month or two. Frying RAM and as of today fried my CPU and the CPU belonging to my local repair shop. Still like the MSI brand but thinking of trying a better motherboard.

This little pin was on one of the holes where the processor goes, I lucky saw it and notice before to put the CPU on so I pulled it out, that little crap in the hole could break my processor down. Fortunately it didn’t happen but really, what’s going on with your cuality control? How could you don’t notice something like that?

Very nice product so far. It’s definitely durable, I bent one of the connectors completely when I was putting pressure on the cables. It went right back to how it was and didn’t show any signs of being bent.Very happy with it, the bios were a bit weird for me but that’s probably my personal issue.

works great. i mean, it delivers what it says. if you don’t like it, you should have been researching what you need and not buying the wrong thing.oh, by the way, in case anyone tells you otherwise, you dont need to buy a cpu fan. it comes with one. and now i have a spare fan. :-)*** UPDATE, 12 months later ***still works great. no problems at all. not sure what the handful of haters are on about… maybe theirs was damaged in shipping or something? mine wasnt. Maybe they didnt research what processor, memory, and graphics card was compatible with this motherboard? I did:uP : AMD Ryzen 5 1600graphics: GTX 1050 Ti cardram: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400 (PC4 19200)took the case apart a couple months ago, to clean the dust out, and everything looks and works good. i use it every day for gaming, school, SW Dev, etc.

This was my first ever build and this board was exactly what I hoped it would be. Easy to work with, has all the slots/features I needed, and looks great. I paired it with a Ryzen 5 1500X, Sapphire RX 580 Nitro+ Limited, and CoolerMaster Master Box 5. Flashing the BIOS was easy and it didn’t take me long to learn my way around the BIOS screens. I wasn’t able to get my RAM fully up to 3200, but it’s running stable at 2933 (this is still a new board and they continue to release updates to help with memory stability). I was able to overclock both my CPU and GPU with no issues. No complaints about this board.

Great board! Four stars until they fix slow boot times and my RAM comparability. 3000 rated ram won’t go above 2700 on a good day, usually stays at 2400.

Works great. Instructions were very clear when connecting front case i/o to the motherboard. It comes with white lights glowing on the back of it, so it looks quite nice in my white case. Good buy at $65 ($10 mail in rebate).

So far so good. a little tricky sorting out the front panel pins but the rest was an easy install
Kevin Luo –
It died about 3 months right after I upgraded it to the latest BIOS (released on 6/30). The CPU DEBUG LED is now constantly on – per manual that means CPU not found or fail. It’s ridiculous.Besides, I really don’t like the layout for M.2 SSD. My MP500 always runs at 60+ Celsius degree and sometimes reaches 70+, though I have tried to install multiple fans on the case and didn’t help much – mainly because of this bad design.Just started checking with support, update progress later.

BIOS is annoying to navigate but it WAS FLASHED to support Ryzen 1600x so that was a HUGE plus.

So far no problems, seems pretty reliable. Make sure you go over every setting in the bios, the onboard network didn’t work well in windows 10 until I changed a setting.

Motherboard came in like new condition, there was some hardware missing. But because I was replacing a faulty board it wasn’t an issue. There was also some paperwork in the box from a power supply and monitor, I guess it was missed by the inspector. Overall I’m happy with purchase.
Dylan –
For normal use this is perfectly fine, but if you are going to be using this for gaming yeah it will work but this board seems like it’s from 2010, the mystic light is out of date so you have like no features for rgb products. You are better off just spending the extra $20-30 on a better motherboard with more features.Overall, for casual and normal use this is perfectly fine, but if you want to pimp out and make your system look really cool with sick rgb affects and all that, just get another board.
Anthony –
Very happy with it. All I needed was a little upgrade to overclock my CPU and it did the trick. The multiple USB 3.0 ports do help with VR equipment too so that was a nice bonus.

AMD Ryzen 5 1400Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GBMSI B350M GAMING PROThis combo booted up right out of the box. I will note it was pre-loaded with the April 2017 bios, as I know there appears to have been issues with the Ryzen 5 and the earlier BIOS. This is a great MOBO if your not needing a ton of standard PCI slots. Easy to install, well labeled.

Great motherboard for the money spent. Over clocks Ryzen 7 1700x to 4gz easily. Make sure to do bios update and it should support all ram to 3200mhz xmp profiles. Not a lot of USB ports on rear but has many onboard. Only 4 sata which is fine I use the available M.2 slot for a boot NVMe. Not a fan of the uefi setup. I prefer asus’. My son is enjoying the upgrade to ryzen from old fx proc.
Zbigniew Brzezinski –
This is a great motherboard and it paired excellently with my Ryzen 5 1600 / Evga 1070 SC. Be sure to have a USB thumbdrive to later update the BIOS as this will enable the user to access better overclock settings and more compatibilities.

I highly recommend staying away from this motherboard! I ordered my first one, got it all set up! It turned on all the lights came on but there where problems, the USB ports didn’t work nor did it put out signal to my monitor, so at first I was thinking okay no big deal it came dead well I’ll get a replacement. The replacement came and that one did the same exact thing, now I’ve read that you need to update the bios with the ryzen 7! Well that’s what I had installed and although I knew that wasn’t the issue I refuse to have another replacement sent! I highly recommend paying the extra money to get a better board by ASUS! Although this board is beautiful especially inside a black and white case but if it doesn’t work it turns my 1200$ pc into a paper weight!! Please save yourself some time stress and money and do not buy this product!

Works great, everything fired right up for me just fine. I did update bios as recommended by msi and every other build guide I looked up which is very easy to do. The tomahawk looks great with the heat sinks at the top and red led lights. If the red doesn’t fit your color scheme you turn them off with software, I like running mine on the breathe function then I have every other light just running normal. My ryzen 5 1600 is only running at 3.6 ghz as my system is gpu bound but I am sure with my cooler master masterliquid lite 120 cooler I could get in the low 4’s. I have watched like 4 vids on the new b450 mobos and I still don’t know what is new or better on them. The msi b450 tomahawk looks great too but I worry the top left heat sink would get in the way of my cooler radiator extending from the rear exhaust. Anyway this is a great medium range mobo and I have not experienced any of the issues in other reviews and assume the issue is related to bios updates not performed properly, msi suggests doing so in the included paperwork.

Great motherboard for the price, I paired it with an A8-9600 and 8GB’s of RAM. The whole setup was used to replace a old and failing Athlon 64 build. The board has 4 SATAs which is nice, an extra plug for a System Fan, and super fast USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports. I was very pleased with the board, everything worked out of box with no issues, for the price I was extremely surprised by how much features it has and by how well everything performs.

Was a pain in the butt to get up and running, but updating the software via the MSI website and another computer was able to sort that problemHappily was running for 2-3 months, shut the computer down then lo and behold would not start up again. “EZ” debugging lights indicate a CPU problem, which is definitely not the case. Terribly frustrated and disappointed as this was the second MSI board that was a pile of garbage. Will not buy another MSI board. For all the hassle, stress, time and money lost, I would prefer to give this negative stars.

First mobo I got for this thing was DoA, so I had to take the CPU and heatsink out. Now, the stock heatsink actually screws to the mobo itself, and as a reviewer on NewEgg noted, they really put too much of the thermal paste on the darned thing. Now, I’d never been able to power on the PC, so no heat had ever actually gone through any component. I unscrewed the heatsink to take it out of the dead mobo and, when I tried to twist it off, (not the first system I’ve built or the first DoA motherboard I’ve had…) THE ENTIRE FREAKING THING came out. I’ve tried rubbing alcohol, (what AMD recommends on their website,) acetone, a hair dryer, solutions specifically designed to dissolve thermal paste, NOTHING is getting these two apart, and I can’t seat them in the new mobo as a unit; without being able to lift the socket’s arm, the CPU doesn’t seat. SO. The CPU survived the extraction, but I can’t use it in a new mobo.

Really make sure that you have a way to update the bios before you debate purchasing it. Other than that small hiccup, this board is pretty damn rad. Looks nice, love the troubleshoot LEDs at the top of the board. Could do with a little labeling on them though.

Worked great, absolutely no boot up problems or needing any tweaking at all.Paired with ryzen 3.
Ogaudreau –
I’m lucky enough to have been able to make this work, because I am a gamedev and have access to various troubleshooting parts. The thing is you absolutely NEED to upgrade the bios for it to work. tried for a full week to troubleshoot what was preventing it to boot. you need a supported CPU and RAM for it to boot and flash the BIOS. and then you can put pretty much any parts in it …So yeah, bottom line, avoid at all cost if you do not have access to some older parts otherwise if you know what you’re doing it is a really decent/upgradable mobo for the price. but if 20buck can save that hassle take another one. if MSI figure out to update the default BIOS before shipping then it would be golden !Also good to note that PC part picker and site like that will tell you everything is fine because it takes into account the BIOS update, but if your pc won’t boot you’re screwed anyway.
Greg Banks –
My mistake but I didn’t realize how small it was. I had I have known the size I would have went for a bigger MOBO. But this thing supports all up to date hardware at great overclock speeds. If you are going for a compact entry/mid level gaming computer, this is a great option, especially with an AMD Ryzen processor.

Fantastic board for the price. With driver and bios updates it works great with the new Raven Ridge APU’s. Red lights are nice, the EZ Debug LED’s are also a blessing. It gets absolutely no complaints from me. Very Very happy that the heatsinks on the board are indeed metal, in the images they looked like they could be made of plastic. The DIMM’s look very very close the CPU, but there was plenty of room for my stock wraith spire, along side RAM with decently sized heatsinks. It’s making a good work horse overclocker.
Ashton Coon –
Its a good board, i got a ryzen 3 1200, a 1050, and 8gbs of DDR4 2400mhz crucial ballistics. Been used for 1080p gaming, and have had it run for probably around 12 hours straight before, pretty good. According to other reviews its a gamble, but i guess i won it. Id recommend it, not high end, but good looking and plenty of features for a budget, just dont put a ryzen 7 and 1080 in it.
Ryan H –
Good motherboard, easy to install, good i/o shield. So far I’ve only got my Corsair Vengeance LPX C15 memory kit running at 2400MHz but I’m hoping the next bios update will help out with that. The board has red leds so rgb builders beware, but I think it its tasteful and looks good in my system.Needs more memory support, but otherwise good.

What can I say? This has been a decent motherboard for a few months no. I have had no serious quirks with it, and it just works. Have always loved MSI, and will continue to buy MSI boards!
Parker Francis –
The board works great! The bios support for RAM was spotty at first, but after the latest updates stability has improved dramatically! Used in a HTPC build with a Ryzen 1200
Rick Smale –
Have had it up and running for a couple of months now. I did a bios update strait away and it has been rock solid. I am running a 1700x at 4ghz had to raise the core voltage to 1.40v. also running Corsair CMK16GX4M2Z3200C16 Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2×8 GB) DDR4 these ran at advertised 3200 speed without issue. Given the price for me it’s a bargain. The only negative is large, long GPU’s cover the sata ports, making it awkward to access them after the GPU has been installed, not a big issue.
PedroPedro –
Great for my new build. But keep in mind that you will most likely have to update the bios for any new cpu, so make sure to have an old one on hand or a place to take it after building for bios updates. In my case it was 37$ extra.

Das Mainboard von MSI läuft sehr stabil. Bis heute gab es noch keine Probleme.
Joseph –
After a few restarts in a new build the board refused to respond. Had to clear the CMOS manually and installed a bios update after it came back to life.Been running alright since then, But I almost had to send it back. This board is iffy at best. If your looking to build something new I suggest you put down a little more money and try a different brand.
Justin –
for the price it is at. This motherboard is a monster!!

I got mine used in good condition. The box was in good shape and it came with new stuff in the box like the I/O Shield and SATA cables. It’s a good (mostly)hassle free board with red LED accent lighting. I just wish it had a little more rear IO but it does have 2 internal USB 3 headers. It even has a ton of legacy stuff like PATA and even DB9 COMM headers. Neat. I highly recommend this board for people who don’t need a ton of frills but would like a powerful and featured mobo. USB on the back may feel a little loose and if you buy used like I did, then you run the risk of having problems with USB power.Edit: Went from 5 to 4 stars because of the issues I’ve been having with USB on my particular board, probably because I got a returned board. If you can buy new, then go for it. If you have some extra cash then go for the B450.
chezcohen –
Really wanted to be able to WOL/Remote Desktop into this unit and now that it’s too late to return it, I find out that MSI doesn’t support WOL on the Realtek LAN chip. Had I known that, I wouldn’t have bought this unit at all.Otherwise, it does what it says. Am currently overclocking Ryzen 1700 at 3.8GHz, although running a bit hot with the stock Wraith Spire cooler.Unless MSI plans to support WOL on Realtek I will probably junk this board and go somewhere else.

La compré reacondicionada estado como nueva. Me llegó impecable.

I was very skeptical about purchasing from MSI. I usually go with different mother board brands. I have to admit I am impressed. The board is functioning as described by the seller. I have not experienced any major issues. Performance wise is as I expected. I did do research in regards to this board and chip compatibility. The led lighting is a nice addition to this board.

I got this product refurbished, and was really excited to get this product to get my gaming rig going. When it arrived I started to assemble it, and I realized the IO shield wasn’t the correct one. So the only way I could get a correct IO if I returned it and purchased it again. I didn’t want to wait that long since that process would be a nightmare. My system just doesn’t have a IO shield. Otherwise it works as intended, and certainly is worth it for the pride.

Didn’t have one issue. I paired this with a Ryzen 5 1600 and 16GB of Ballistix Sport LT by Crucial RAM. I put an rx 580 in there and it has just been awesome. Didn’t have to update BIOS right away, although you should know you’ll need an optical drive to install windows or operating system because you cannot use the usb to do so. Otherwise…excellent motherboard.

It isn’t bad, but it isn’t great. It is a basic, no frills board with out of the box bios support for new cpus. Only 1 CPU and 1 (rear) system fan header – I would have liked another fan header for front fans. Honestly the actual build quality feels a little cheap, but for $50 or so what else can one expect?

The only issue is if you are using a Ryzen 7 chip, you won’t be able to use on-board video. Not an issue since I use a 3rd party graphics card anyway.

Motherboard is amazing, only downside is that its build for integrated graphics within the processor. So be sure to get one that comes with it. I purchased the ryzen 5 1600 apparently this board is build for processors that will come with integrated graphics. Just important to note that the hdmi and vga will not work straight from the board without this type of processor. You will need a graphics card for it to post if you don’t get an APU.Other than that board is amazing and UEFI looks cool on setup 🙂

UPDATE 4/28/18: I am done. This MSI B350 Tomahawk board is the worst component I’ve ever experienced in about 12 years of pc building. Just updated to latest bios (7A34v1G) – Can overclock but doesn’t register correctly in windows 10, and shows in apps when they either crash or perform very poorly; Unstable even at default settings; and now, when I could previously revert to older bios versions, I CAN’T EVEN DO THAT ANYMORE! Will never again purchase anything MSI.Deleting my old review, don’t bother with this product. I suppose there’s probably a lot of people who just plug and play; who don’t care to overclock or even check if their ram is running at the correct rated speed and maybe never even update their bios from factory. If you never tweaked or overclocked this board from the bios at all, then I could see an excuse for all these 5 star ratings. However, as someone with experience, I find the MSI B350 Tomahawk HIGHLY overrated. No one would argue Ryzen launch was rushed having minimum DDR4 compatibility. After a year or so of ownership and constant bios updating, it’s clear that MSI at least is still really struggling to catch up. I don’t know how it is for other AM4 manufacturer’s. If you want proof, go check the list of bios updates for B350 Tomahawk. Almost every update you see “Increased Memory Compatibility”. Guess what? IT’S NOT THERE YET! Not with this board. Only just recently have I finally been able to set my ram at the default clock speeds-And it’s not even stable…

Out of the box no video output with a Ryzen 5 1400 CPU. Several different known good working graphics cards. No video output. Either onboard or card. Only thing it does is light up and beep. Got an RMA from MSi to return the board for repair or warranty. Wait a month, get it back and it still doesn’t have any video output. Either onboard or with a card. Not only that, they sent back the board in a non-original box so I don’t have the proper documentation for the rebate. Do not buy this unless you have a room full of parts to swap out “To see what works”.**Edit** After contacting MSI rebate customer service I was informed that because I don’t have the original packaging, I can not get the rebate. the card works. It took us 5, yes 5 video cards to find one that works with this board.

Good board. A lot of fan ports. Nice LED effects but in a well lit case its hard to see. Nothing too negative to say, like all AM4 boards there are very frequent BIOS updates. I am able to do stable overclocking on this board, nothing crazy. Ryzen 1600x @ 4.ghz and 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX @ 3000Mhz.

Solid build quality, have yet to OC, but from what I’ve read, it will get the job done, paired with a r5 1600 and works awesome. Only tinkering I did was reassign my rams speed to its original speed and then OC my cpu next. Great mobo

Although it is a gaming board I find these boards great for software development and testing especially for CPU intensive servers. Customers had previously reported 17,000 transactions / second on unknown server hardware. This, with an AMD Ryzen 7 ran 30,000 transactions /sec with both the client loader and server only using 50% of the capacity. The board can generate a color display while running behind me out of sight. So it is with gaming boards so I rewarded the board with full points for simulating ‘warmth’.

At first my ram wouldn’t get to the 3200mhz clock speed. I installed the Beta A.57 BIOS and it worked like a charm. I haven’t installed a final release bios because, well, it works fine as is right now.

It is great but the only major issue is with the io shield. When putting the motherboard in, the io shield gets all bent on the wrong direction and messed up. Other than that, great performance so far and neat design.

Just built my Ryzen system not too long ago, this MSI Motherboard has been solid. With the LED boot up test lights to the red LED ambient lights made me have to build a red and black theme lol. I do like the suite of MSI software, though I don’t have all of them installed. I only use the MSI Live Update app and the Gaming app. Those help me keep the motherboard software updated, control the LED lights and put my cpu in silent mode or gaming mode. I have tried the OC mode in the gaming app but it doesn’t seem like it is doing anything. So I’ll stick to doing the overclocking myself. The only real set back that I faced was the initial Memory compatibility for Ryzen. I had to wait for the bios update that had the new AGESA microcode. For a bit I could only hit 2667mhz on my G.Skill Ripjaw V DDR4 3200 kit. As of right now I can run 3200mhz and has been running smooth. That’s pretty much it, everything has been plug and play. No real headaches. The main reasons I decided on buying this board is to build a smaller computer and that has crossfire capability. B350 chipset doesn’t natively support crossfire, but MSI was nice enough to set up a version of it through a pcie 2.0. I have yet to test it out, because of the current price craze of graphics cards. So I’ll update this review when I get to that. One minor con or glitch, is the lack of bios download option through the LIVE Update app. I say glitch because the LIVE update app can recognize your bios version, but I’m not sure if it was meant to download the newest bios or not. I Understand there is a procedure to doing the Flash. I think it would be nice if I can actually download the newest bios within the app, instead of having to go to the website ever so often to look for an update. The only real con, at the time of purchase, is the lack of selection of X370 chipset (with native crossfire) for MATX form factor on all motherboard vendors. So, as I previously mentioned MSI helped us out a bit. If I had to pay a bit more for it i would have and if wanted to build with a Full ATX board I would have waited for Threadripper.

Love this motherboard so far, it’s got everything needed for a solid build. The BIOS is awesome, especially once it’s been fully updated. It handles my DDR4-3000 at 2,933Mhz which is plenty close enough for me. The documentation that comes with the board does tell you to put the memory in the wrong slots, it’s actually the opposite of what it tells you, and the board will tell you if you’re using 1 or 2 sticks and they’re not in the optimized locations. If you try to overclock your RAM while it’s in the wrong configuration you’ll likely send your system into a boot loop, but after a couple of boots the board will realize something is wrong and set your clock speed back to the default so you can boot. And if you’re using Windows 10, be sure you toggle Windows 10 mode in the BIOS, otherwise the optimized memory locations will only give you access to one of two sticks within Windows. The board easily overclocks my Ryzen 5 1600X to 4.0Ghz without any issues, and has yet to generate any heat from the board itself when being used heavily. The red LEDs are very attractive and accent the board nicely and the placement of the fan headers is perfect for cases with fans not just up front and in the back, but at the top and bottom.Everything worked great out of the box and I have had no issues that weren’t easily resolved by a simple BIOS change or listening to the on-screen warning.[Update 5/18/2018 — Three months in]Still works great, however I have discovered that if you want to use one of the eight-core Ryzen CPUs you’ll want to use a better board, the VRMs on this board are very low-end and weak, so processors like the 1800, 1800X, and 2700X will probably kill your board after a few months. MSI is known for cheaping out on their VRMs, I plan to get a X470 from another company when I upgrade next.

Excellent motherboard, although I’ve always liked MSI over other brands really is a very good motherboard. It is beautiful and simple to install; By updating the BIOS and activating the XMP option, you configure the memory at the speed you need without manually entering the values. With applications like MSI Afterburner, Gamming APP and Command Center you can configure all the values of the cooler, Game Boost, etc. easily. Perhaps the only detail is that the led of the mother card are only red, even if you change the color in Gamming APP the CPU cooler if it changes but the ones in the mother card do not.

Works great and runs smooth had trouble installing os after I couldn’t get mouse/keyboard/usb devices to work in win 7 install but could be issue with hdd, ended up cloning a win 10 drive I had in laptop to get new build to work. Unfortunately even after updating to latest bios available on main website ram still won’t clock past 2133mhz even though it is 3000mhz ram. Not sure when new bios worked for someone with same issue but not work for me. Sad day. But new build running all games ultra @60fps so not all bad guess I gotta wait for more bios updates to get the most out of ram without reboot loop and no post.

There has been talk of memory problems with Ryzen, but with this motherboard and the G.Skill FlareX memory, I had no problem moving the clock speed for the memory to 3200 and the voltage to 1.35, which the memory and motherboard were rated for. I added a MSI 1060 6gb graphics card and the system is rock solid. I haven’t actually tried to overclock the CPU yet, but I have seen it go slightly over 4GHz, which is it’s max burst speed for the Ryzen 5 1600x. The games I have are smooth with everything cranked up at 1080p. I have no intention of adding another graphics card so the 500 watt EVGA power supply will be plenty. I used a Cosair case that was inexpensive, but solid and works nice. I added another fan to the front and blocked off the spots on top for another fan. The CPU does not come with a cooler and a DEEPCOOL GAMMAXX 400 CPU Cooler was added to the mix. I did not use the heat sink compound supplied, but some ArticCool I had. It is very quiet and runs cool too.I noticed someone else had problems and I wanted to add that I updated to BIOS to the latest version that supports the Ryzen 5. Like I said, no problems and it’s rock solid. The memory was a bit pricey, but I figured if it was made specifically to support the AMD motherboards with the X370 and B350 it would minimize the chances of problems and it looks like it did. I am quite happy. :)One other thing, they mention in the manual and have an additional insert in the box that both state the memory should go in the second and fourth slots counting from the CPU out. The memory part number is F4-3200C14D-16GFX. I am seeing the CPU cores clocking as fast as 4.1 GHz which is fine for me, I plan on burning it all in for a few days and watch the temperatures, I didn’t like the feel of the way the fan mounted, it required attaching one side and rocking the fan over the cpu and I am worried about what that did to the thermal paste. So far the highest temperature seen was 72 degrees C. I plan on using this for gaming and 3D modeling, so the extra cores will come in handy when I need it as a workhorse. I read the manual that came with the motherboard looking for references to memory voltage and the only thing I found was “Based on the processor specification, the memory DIMM voltage below 1.35 is suggested to protect the processor.” base on that I reduced the memory voltage in the BIOS to 1.34 volts and it is still solid.

Ryzen 1600x @4.0ghz 1.381v, 16gb Gskill flare x @3200I heavily researched all of the matx options for Ryzen before finally deciding on the mortar. All of the boards out there now (Mid July 2017) seem to have some sort of trade off but in the end I am very happy with my purchase. I knew that I would be overclocking and after researching the other matx am4 boards it seems that the mortar has the best power configuration (Actually has load line calibration unlike some others). I also have more use for a usb c port than a vga port. After building my new Ryzen 1600x system I booted up and immediately updated the bios with the most recent one from msi. After installing windows I started to dig in and see what kind of overclock I could get. Overclocking the memory was pleasantly painless which was a relief after hearing that this was an issue at Ryzen’s launch. It recognized my Gskill flare x 3200 kit with 14 14 14 14 34 timings with no issues and has been running at 3200 trouble free. Now for the issues. I don’t seem to be able to use the bios to overclock the processor. Every time I try it defaults to 2.2 ghz. Something here in the bios still needs to be tweaked. Luckily by setting the cpu stuff in the bios to auto and using AMD’s Ryzen master software (Which has some of its own issues) I was able to get a stable 4ghz across all cores at 1.381v. I haven’t tried to go for 4.1 yet. I’ve tested with cinebench and by playing games and verified speeds by using cpu z. I’m using a corsair h115i aio in push pull and the cpu stays nice and cool all the time. The other minor issue I have is that I can’t find anywhere in the bios to turn the leds off. I almost didn’t buy this board because of the leds. I hate leds and rgb because i’m old, get off my lawn. EDIT Downloading the “MSI Gaming App” will allow you to disable the leds. Otherwise this software is useless.I’ve only put this system together in the last few days so only time will tell how things hold up. The biggest point to take away is that the newest bios allows quality memory to be clocked at the appropriate xmp profile at least up to 3200. 4 4 pin pwm fan headers is better than some competitors as well. I’m also using a samsung 960 evo 250g for my os drive and that has also been superfast and drama free with this board.

From a hardware standpoint, its a decent mATX board. Headers and connectors are laid out well enough for decent cable management and the LEDs are decently bright. However, there aren’t many USB ports on this board for reasons I’m not entirely sure of. Other boards don’t seem to have this problem.Another issue is the UEFI interface. The latest official release as of 6/27/17 was released on 5/3/17 despite AGESA 1.0.0.6 being officially released for ~2 weeks and other board manufactures having released official production UEFI images with the latest AGESA updates already. Now that said I was able to get a 32 GB (2×16) Kit of Corsair Vengeance 3000MHz RAM up to 2666 MHz with an “A-XMP” profile, but there’s no IOMMU patch and memory can still be an issue so far. On top of that, should a UEFI setting change fail (as it often can when messing with clock rates) you have to reset the board with a screwdriver across the “RESET_CMOS” headers because there isn’t a jumper on the board.

Initial boot was weird as it power cycled all of the fans 8-10 times over a minute or two before POSTing. It did POST though and everything is working flawlessly. Ryzen 1600X CPU properly detected and running at 3.6GHz base, Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 2666 single-rank memory (BLS2K8G4D26BFSCK) automatically detected and running at the full 2666 speed. Windows 10 installation booting from a FAT32 formatted USB memory stick and installing to a Corsair 240GB M.2 nVME PCIe SSD went fast and without issue. I did not need to have any drivers ready in advance. Windows installed all necessary drivers for normal operation, including network driver. I then downloaded the MSI Live Update utility and used that to install the latest versions of drivers that Windows did not yet have. Also downloaded the AMD Chipset driver from AMD’s website to get the Ryzen power profile for proper boost mode functionality. TIP: don’t install MSI Gamer App if you want to use the Ryzen power profile, it will override the AMD profile. Everything was straightforward and easier than how most builds go.Other thoughts: I wish the rear I/O would get rid of the PS/2 connectors which are obsolete and have been obsolete for over 15 years now and replace them with another pair of USB 2.0 ports. Also, the rear I/O shield is impossible to read. I had to take a photo of it with my phone and zoom in which was barely enough to figure out which audio port did what. Whoever thought that matte red paint on a matte black background with a white motherboard should be out of a job.

I am using this with an AMD Ryzen 3 2200G with Radeon Vega Graphics and 16GB of G-Skill DDR4 (3000) RAM and it works great. My computer is really fast, and thanks to the SSD drive it takes less than 30 seconds to boot up Windows 10. I highly recommend this combination.
Just the truth –
No matter what I tried, the first B350 would not recognize my Raedon RX460 GPU. The second one picked finally picked it up, but it boots much, MUCH slower than I expected. Once it finds the GPU, it boots in seconds, but it takes a long time to find the GPU every time I turn it on.

After a couple weeks of researching motherboards at this price range I pulled the trigger on this board, and I couldn’t be happier. This board has a lot of great features. The two most important ( at least to me ) is that the the board has a really largeand well cooled VRM, so overclocking even an 8 core cpu, is really easy. Also the board has everything really well spacedout. This is the first build I’ve done where everything fit with plenty of room to spare. I have fairly large hands and buildingwith this board has been a dream.

I have not been impressed with this boards power management at all. It is very slow to boot up compared to my last board its about 10 seconds slower and I think its related to the M2 drive. Have yet to check the BIOS for an update and then experiment with overclocking the Ryzen 5 1600 CPU I have. Over all the board is solid, and given the black and silver color scheme it went really nice with the black SATA cables with white ends. Overall it is a solid board and very reasonably priced. My only complaint is that even though it has an M.2 slot, there are only 4 SATA connectors on the board and with a Blu-Ray drive that only leaves 3 additional connectors for hard drives. Would of liked to of seen at least 6 SATA connectors on the board, and stepping up to the X370 was not worth it since I have no plans for crossfire and some of the other features I will not make use of.

Before again to this review I have to tell you please, update the bios before you download and install all the drivers because this could be a major headache. Learn from my lesson and you won’t experience the headache i went through of trial and error on hardware. So once you load up a usb drive with the new bios, and update it, everything has been running smoothly. No BSODs that plagued me for nearly 3 hours, before the update. It runs as it should and i highly recommend it, as it fits in my apevia x qpack 3 mini cube pc case perfectly.

When I ran the BIOS for the first time it went pretty smoothly… for about a minute and a half until it froze. I rebooted the system and removed all power before trying again. Shortly after opening it froze again. I removed a stick of ram, my graphics card and all other items that weren’t completely necessary and tried again. I still didn’t have any luck, so I reset the BIOS and tried again. It failed again. Thinking it was a problem with the BIOS version I decided to update the BIOS (as I needed to update it to work with my other generation 2 processor anyways). After struggling through the BIOS- while it repeatedly froze and made me have to start over again- I eventually was able to update to the most recent version successfully and the system rebooted. I opened the BIOS again, but shortly after it froze again.I also noticed my fan didn’t get constant power and for some reason would slow- and sometimes even stop completely- while the system was running. My guess is I probably just got a defective motherboard, as I know plenty of people who have MSI boards and love them, but I would definitely use caution when purchasing.

I really like this motherboard. I think it’s the only one you can get right now that is not black, heck, you cant even get green or blue nowadays.I like the heat sinks that cover the Voltage regulators as some don’t come with that. Has plenty of fan headers, USB ports, etc. I only had one slight problem with a wireless TEKNET mouse, that caused a USB port to stop working until I rebooted the machine. So I switched to a wired mouse. (the mouse does work on my laptop just fine) and last of all there are a ton of settings in the BIOSI can hit 4.00 GHz on the CPU and 3200 MHz on the RAM no problem.I’m using the Ryzen 2400g and TridentZ RGB RAM

Issues abound, from the manufacture supplied software that is bloated an crashes too often to the fact that DDR4 2400 ram only works at speed if you use two sticks, otherwise you get a memory speed downgrade or worse.First set of 4GBx4 didn’t work at all, system was flat out unstable, turns out that specific model of ram was sold as a set of 4 but only supported by this MB as a pair of sticks.. BOO! that’s not how it works.Second set of ram 4GBx2 works wonderfully clocking to the stated speed of the (somewhat cheap and slow) ddr4 2400 ram.. add two more sticks however and now my cpu will no longer properly boost, seems the “auto” voltage in the bios isn’t very auto BOO!MSI Commander (software) which allows you to do overclocking and set fan speeds from within your os is super buggy and crashes/freezes more often then it works, and consumes from 4 to 10% processor while it runs in the background.MSI Game center (software) controls game overlays, night mode, and lcd’s is also very buggy and crashes far too often, and what’s the deal with not being able to set color ranges or control what color displays when for the “change color with cpu temperature mode”MSI Live update.. I have never and I never will install one of your suggested programs, allow me to dismiss programs I don’t want, or to ignore updates I know are too buggy to install. In a word disappointed, and I waited 2 weeks before writing this thinking I was being hot headed. I’ll update this review if some future bios update clears up these issues.

I just want to say, first of all I am not one to review products. I normally lurk other reviews to see how things fare but I never put this initiative in myself. Today that’s going to change. I’ve gone through h3ll and back trying to figure out what was going on with my computer. Tried new RAM, new PSU, uninstalled and reinstalled all Driver’s, reinstalled windows about 3 times. This motherboard sucks, there is no way around it. After over a week and a half (hours nearing 20+) trying to figure out why I dumped so much money into a new build that performed like garbage, tonight I decided maybe the RAM was the cause. Bought new ram, came home and powered up. No power to my USB ports, GPU fan was running but had no display out.Spend the extra money if you can on a better motherboard. if you can’t save the extra, save and wait. This is the last MSI product I ever buy

I can’t find anything to complain about with this motherboard at this price really. System fan headers are placed in reasonable places, no old school PCI ports wasting space here and I think that the SATA ports are placed in a more logical way than other MSI motherboards at this price (I’m consuming all 4 ports). When you look for the BIOS upgrade for this there ABSOLUTELY is a difference between the arctic and non-arctic versions so be sure to specifically grab the arctic image if you have the arctic board. The white LED accents look really need too and makes the white board pop a bit, but I think I will get a white LED strip for this too to brighten up my case a bit more. Looking at my computer as I type this I honestly forgot if this thing has an M.2 port or not hehe, I believe the slot is behind my GPU which is a bad place to put the M.2 card as it can overheat in such a tight space, so I don’t recommend this board if you want to use an M.2 card.My 1 real gripe with this motherboard is a gripe I have had with all motherboards (minus one board), and that is I HATE the clips or whatever they are that stick out on the rear IO shield. One board I had used this suctioning like gel almost on the back that made the board sink right in and line up so easily. I wish that was a common thing, because it’s possible to run into user error (like this time) and have one of the tabs stick in a port like the Ethernet port and require pulling the board out and resetting it.As for performance and functionality, I haven’t overclocked my Ryzen 1600 yet but plan on it when I get the mounting brackets for my Be Quiet! cooler. With the latest BIOS revision my 3000MHz GSkill Ripjaw set of memory clocked easily to 2933MHz using the A-XMP profile so that’s nice. I don’t care to use the full 3000MHz as 2933 is close enough.

The driver for this msi motherboard is pretty bad. I still can’t get the motherboard to recognize the ram in the second ram slot as 2666mhz. The most difficult part of the assembly is the drivers and software. The site is packed with rabbit holes you can get lost in for days. The acceptable memory list is frustrating to figure out. But once everything was configured correct, it works great!

So far so good. Only 2 memory slots. Updated bios and good compatibility with my hyperx ram. Able to OC from 2400 to 2933 that i tested so far. Not a fan of the sata slots config, If you have big bulky graphics card, hard to get to, but just a slight gripe.

Having gone through the usual bit of turmoil when an old build goes through death throes, I had jitters booting this board the first time. BUT it worked. And not only did it work, but the BIOS is quite nice (feels like luxury after my old ASUS z87 board). RAM compatibility seems to be the chief complaint with this one from what I’ve seen, but it loves the Mushkin Redline 2667’s that I put in, and accepted them as 2667 with one save&reboot.

Purchased for my sons PC Build, so far so good Required a BIOS update but once this was done all components ran perfectly inc Ryzen 5 1600, Samsung M.2 NVME (Very Fast) and Corsair DDR4 3200 MHz.It did not see the NVME as supplied but the BIOS update fixed that.

I bought this along with the Ryzen 3 1200. Everything worked right out of the box. The bios didn’t need to be updated to recognize the CPU which is was worried it would. I got windows 10 loaded up on it and it all works fantastically.

I am leaving this at 1 star overall unless MSI makes good on their sata cable destroying my new SDD. On first boot; I had barely made it to bios when the PC shut off and I smelled burning plastic, see pictures as to why. The sata port the cable was plugged into is fine, and so is another drive I have now plugged into the same port, so it is not the port… The included sata cable melted and destroyed the brand new 1TB drive I had purchased with it. SSD is worth almost 2x this motherboard so RMA won’t help. Attempting to contact MSI support as well. Please advise if anyone has any help to get MSI to replace my SSD.

So, I found this motherboard for a reasonable price for my new CPU (Ryzen 7 3700x) and came to my surprise that there were only 2 fan headers, but also that it was missing the cooler mount and the packaging was already open. For MSI this is disgusting and for the price, it could have least been more sanitary and secure. Shame on you for even thinking about selling that motherboard.

Simple. Certainly free of complications. Purchased for a budget build so while it doesn’t have any special bells and whistles I wasn’t looking for any at this price point.

its a motherboard, its cheap, it works, and it still looks pretty good. i have mine loaded with 16 gigs of ram, a cheap processor that i will not name *cough* and a GTX 1060. looks great and works well. dosnt have as many fan plugins as i wanted but oh well, thats what they make splitters for.

Not a good overclocking board; also all msi b350 boards don’t support adding offsets to the vcore so you can only have a manual vcore to fix and overclocking options in the msi boards are minimal.

Edited… found the other one its at the bottom… also bought a 16gb kit 3000 MHz and at first it wouldn’t work at full speed but after UEFI update it does now. Thank you AMD, its nice to have you back. Also also I got that AIO water cooler and now the Ryzen 5 1600 hits 4.3 GHz. I’m very pleased.Fan header, one more fan header would of gotten it 5 stars. Paired it with a Ryzen 5 1600 and Corsair LPX Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) 3000 MHz, well I have to say I’m impressed. After a bios update its capable of overclocking the cpu from 3.2 GHz to 3.9 GHz @ 1.37v and the ram is at 2933 @ 1.38v. But I did have to loosen ram timings from cl15 to cl16 because it would glitch while playing videos. Back to the comment I made at the beginning about fan headers, keep the motherboard as cool as possible. Had to order more fans for the case VIVO “Smart” MICRO-ATX Tower, one of the fans that came with the case was broken so the one that was working had to work overtime and is very loud.PS240mm AIO water cooler is on its way and when it arrives I’m going for the big 4GHzPSStemps are under 60c with stock cooler under load

Good features for the price. Board layout is good, with lots of fan connections. Red LEDs are a nice touch, especially in low light. Install went smoothly and the board autodetected all of my components straight away. I used the compatibility checker on their website in advance of purchase. Nice GUI with mouse support in BIOS. Only 4 SATA connectors, which might be an issue for some, but worked for my set up. Overall, it’s hard to screw up the install if you use their compatibility checker in advance. It autodetects and auto-configures everything for you upon initial startup. I haven’t tried the advanced features for overclocking yet.

Let me be somewhat thorough here. If we are looking at aesthetics, this Mobo looks appealing. It is compact, grey, fits with any build, and feels pretty strong. The main problem I ran into is that this Mobo only has 1 sys fan/pwm header, and 1 CPU Fan header. Most Mobos I’ve worked with AT LEAST have an exhaust fan header, but this does not. I had to purchase a 2-way PWM Splitter. I shouldn’t have to add extra wires and hardware, this is a simple thing that should come standard. My thermals have suffered tremendously because of this. That alone, gives this Mobo one star.I also do not like the UEFI on this Mobo, and it gave me issues with the boot drive, and installing Win10.

The feature set of this board is very competitive in this price range compared to it’s competition and the performance is good as expected. Most B350 boards can max out 4 and 6 core Ryzen CPUS but the eight cores stretch the VRM’s on this level of motherboard. Its fine for regular, reasonable everyday usage OC’s however the VRM temperatures will be very high and aren’t suitable for hardcore overclockers which is fine at this price point. I got to 3.9 Ghz on my 1700 at good voltages and the LLC works fine on this board with lots of modes to try so I was happy, but if you want to push your R7 to the max you should consider a board with better VRM’s and a clear CMOS button. I just got a single stick of G.SKILL Aegis 3000 Mhz F4-3000C16S-8GISB RAM (high ram prices) and it worked at full speed with small tweaks. With XMP it defaults to 2933, close to max. It looks like it does that because there is no 3000 Mhz multiplier for DRAM and I think this is just Ryzen wide so no fault on MSI here. All I did was turn XMP off and set the speed to 3066 and put DRAM voltage to 1.4 which is fine according to AMD and it worked fine. The BIOS is perfectly fine and lets you punch in the exact voltages you want rather than using confusing offsets. One small thing, it doesn’t tell you what the “Optimized Defaults” button is on the main page like most other boards do (it’s F6). From this standpoint the board works well and will get you into Windows however…However, this motherboard gets 2 things very wrong:1. This motherboard has NO VRM TEMPERATURE SENSOR. It is known that the VRM’s on the lower budget level B350 boards get hot when overclocking R7’s to the point where the lifespan of the VRM components will degrade very fast if left at high temps under load. However putting a small fan over the VRMS will mostly keep the temps in check. I was willing to put the fan on them but having no way to tell what the actual VRM temperature is at is just disappointing and a major oversight by MSI. Its really unfortunate that the VRM temps became so important on this market segment of boards but not having that sensor seemed really standard but it’s not on this board. It has a sensor that shows “Motherboard Temperature” which is just the case ambient and it is entirely useless.2. The fan control on this board is AWEFUL. MSI has seemingly locked software fan control EXCEPT for their own, MSI Command Center. I used a program called SpeedFan on my old system and it worked great but it cannot control the fan headers on this board. Doing more research, it seems that this has been a problem on more MSI boards in the past. If you want to control fans in Windows then you have to use Command Center. It works…. sort of, you can change the speeds and save profiles but it won’t start on Windows startup even if you tell it to, AND even when you start it manually, it does not load your last settings so you have to again, manually select your saved profiles for each fan! This software is a joke even compared to Asus AI Suite! If you search to fix this stuff you will find people having these problems with Command Center on different MSI boards for YEARS! So, for fans you have to go into the BIOS and set them or just go through the motions with CC every start up. Also if you clear the CMOS for a failed OC you have to configure the fan curves again, so if you want to lower the fan speed to see if you’re still stable at a lower noise level and it fails, you have to set it in the BIOS again because the software control is laughable. Here are some other small cons that aren’t deal breakers:- It doesn’t come with a clear CMOS jumper. Making your user stick a screw driver at their mobo isn’t great and a small 10 cents jumper would fix that possible disaster. The clear CMOS pins are also not in the greatest spot which is right under the graphics card to its hard to reach.- although I’m not using it yet, the M.2 slot positioning is sub-optimal being right under where your hot GPU will be. The Asrock B350 PRO4 does this better and puts it above the PCI-E slots. As for it’s competitors, the low end Gigabyte boards are said to have worse VRM’s than MSI and no have no LLC and the Asus PRIME B350-PLUS has a lesser audio solution and ONLY 2 system fan headers so I ruled both of those out. The only reason I got this over the Asrock B350 PRO4 is because the Tomahawk had 5 system fan headers (the 5th is a pump header but will work with a system fan) where the PRO4 only had 3. You can have 3 front intake, a rear exhaust and a small fan on the VRM. It looked like everything lined up but if I had to buy again I would have gone for a better board. Looking at the options spending even $10 to $30 dollars more could get you something way better.MSI has used the exact same board layout on 3 boards just with different colors and marketing: The Tomahawk, Gaming Plus and PC Mate. The Tomahawk and Gaming Plus has the always on red motherboard LED’s which I would rather not have and the PC Mate loses those cause of the marketing. The PC Mate has the exact same board layout, VRMS and feature set, looks nicer IMO and gets the same BIOS support as the other two it’s just marketed as a a business board so if you wanted this board but don’t like the lights, get the PC Mate instead. This board Isn’t terrible, the issues I mentioned are not deal breakers for everyone. You can get a fan controller or something and the VRM’s are probably going to be fine since I put the fan on it but I really wanted everything to be perfect. I would have gotten the Asrock B350 PRO4 or just bought a nicer board like the Asus STRIX B350-F which has the extra fan headers.

Pros:Looks greatWas able to run Hynix corsair Ram at rated 3200 speed !4 fan headers on an MATX is pretty good2 x 3.0 internal USB headers?Cons:-Very poor Bios; It looks great, but it functions terribly. If you increase voltage by .005 (no joke) it potentially fails to post – I’ve never had to remove a battery so many times to reset CMOSIt CAN overclock, but you might as well roll a 6 sided die to calculate your chances of it working – if you get a slight overclock to boot, NEVER TRY TO BETTER IT – as soon as you do it locks up and you need to clear CMOS. There’s no ‘overclock failed’ message, and no recovery-DEBUG lights seem a great idea, and would otherwise be fantastic on a board of this price point, but unfortunately when your mild overclock through BIOS doesn’t work (it will take eventually take with the same settings – but you need to work HARD and be prepared to pull the battery over and over) no lights show – in fact it does nothing, no post, no debug lights, nothing. It just sits there. So basically the debug lights are completely useless.-No P-state overclocking-No base clock modifier-Only one RGB header, and for some reason your RGB lights can only show 7 colours; no colour wheel here, if you don’t want BRIGHT white, red, blue, green – you’ve no option. It’s 100% brightness times the only 7 colours MSI allows, and you need to install their proprietary software to adjust them.- only 4 sata portsTL:DRFor the price on sale, if you want a white board for a build this is basically form over function. It looks great, but is problematic. It sucks at overclocking – but it’s got extra fan headers and looks fantastic.

Not much to say about this motherboard. It just won’t post no matter what I tried. It does turn on, everything spins and seems to be working but I wouldn’t get anything on the monitor. I went to micro center and bought a gigabyte motherboard. I got the pc to post, problem fixed. This board is faulty or do not accept newer cpu. But since you can not access the bios there’s nothing you can do.

Great board. There are a few issues though. My Corsair Vengeance 3200 mhz ram cannot reach 3200, and it can only reach 2933 even with the latest 1.4 uefi bios. Also, it’s not MSI’s fault but my ElGato HD60 Pro does not work in the express lanes of the mobo, and it only works in the first PCIe 16x 8x slot which is for the GPU. ElGato and MSI should have taken care of this because Ryzen was promoted as a workstation/streaming product. It does not come with an M.2 shield cover, and I was a little disappointed because there are several features that are missing in the UEFI that the X370 boards have. Like upping the voltage to the SOC for example is something that can’t be done on this board, and that’s essential for getting stable overclocks. But, it still works okay for the price. Hope some bios updates will be rolled out for the memory issues.

I deleted my old review simply because even more stuff came up with this board that is unacceptable or just plain weird. I’m going to structure this so the reader’s jaw slowly widens as they read this, and I’ll start with the minor issues first. So, for starters, you can’t clock ram to match what you paid for. This is the case with many Ryzen motherboards now, so no fault against MSI specifically here. Buy a 3200Mhz ram kit, and you’ll probably get 2966 like I did.Secondly, the lights. There is no onboard RGB controller despite there being an RGB header: The lights are controlled by the MSI Gaming App, which is as cringeworthy in performance as it is in name.Next is another issue with the lights. All MSI B350s are RGB backlit, except, apparently, this more expensive one. The MSI logo changes colors. The rest of the backlights are forced white. You can’t change them. THEN, when you’re in the gaming app, you dont even have an RGB panel of colors. There are 16 presets and you cant use anything else. This effectively LIMITS YOUR RGB, including the one on your nifty AMD Wraith Spire cooler. Now, let’s kick it up a notch, the givens and the cosmetics are out of the way. FUNCTIONALLY, what makes this board bad? We’ll start with the fact that the BIOS was designed by a two-year-old who said to make it look like it’s for GAMERZ. It’s horrible. The first computer I ever bought, I bought THE CHEAPEST motherboard I could find, and it was still leagues beyond this one. Navigating this BIOS is a pain, and it’s chock full of cheap effects that don’t work properly. Yes, I updated the BIOS; no, it didn’t get better.Next up is an issue I had from day one, but didn’t know that much about until now. This one is the reason I rewrote this review. When I bought the board, I bought an m.2 SSD. I bought it secondhand, so I can’t return it, and there’s a certain risk involved. My drive didn’t work. Oh well, just got a dead SSD from somebody who wanted to rip me off, right?Wrong. This motherboard has an issue where it simply does not detect SSDs. The SSD will work, you reboot, and it disappears off your BIOS menu entirely. The drive doesn’t work any more. Reboot, hey, now it does.As of right now, there is nothing but speculation as to what causes this issue, MSI has claimed to have fixed this with a BIOS update, but I have seen no such fixes after updating myself. Some users are saying they fixed this by switching from DisplayPort to HDMI. How that makes sense is beyond me, but I’m not advocating the purchase of a motherboard that forces its users to jerry-rig their own products. The second I have a chance, I’m buying the most expensive X370 I can find from any manufacturer that is not MSI, and I’m not dealing with these issues again.
JOANNE –
I bought this board a year ago and paired it up with an AMD Ryzen 3 2200G processor. This build has been running solid for a year with no hardware related problems. Can’t beat it for the price and I get better performance and stability than the higher priced equivalent Intel boards and processors.

Good price, for a nice motherboard. Haven’t had any problems with it yet, though the ez debug light for cpu pops on every time i boot the computer, and there seems to be no actual problem with my cpu. Haven’t found a solution to that. Also the “gpu led” light on the top always stays on, though I don’t see any problems with my gpu either. Kind of annoying, but whatever, no real problems yet.

This is a good board, just make sure you update the BIOS. I found a number of stability issues with the one I received that cleared up once I updated the BIOS (without that, it wasn’t even stable enough to reinstall an OS). Beyond that minor issue (which shouldn’t be a problem if you’re installing the board) it performs as required. I would like to see the slower PCIE slot moved lower on the board though just to give the GPU a bit more room, but it’s tight clearance with other parts so I get it.

Had some trouble with USB overcurrent protection initially thanks to me screwing in one of the screws in too tightly (probably caused some grounding issues), and the amount of force required to install the cpu heatsink was a bit worrying, the RAM I got required a BIOS update to work at its advertised frequency, and MSI’s utility for updating drivers isn’t great (and will even install norton if you aren’t being careful) as it was unable to notify me that the BIOS itself had an update, or even give me the entire BIOS version, leaving out the revision, which is what I needed to check. But aside from those things, this motherboard has worked well for me so far. Probably the cheapest Ryzen motherboard with 4 memory slots, and while the I/O leaves some to be desired, along with the boot time (Bios update helped with that), it seems sturdy, and has overcurrent protection, so it probably won’t break itself if something metal, and not a plug gets stuck in one of its sockets.Edit:Died after a little over 6 months of use, after loosing power on startup (I kicked the power switch, so there definitely wasn’t a surge). It’s pretty clearly the bios that got messed up, but I’m somewhat apalled that the bios would even be writing to itself without a super capacitor backup. This behavior is something OS’s typically survive, and those don’t brick a ~100$ computer component when they die, in addition to having a lot more going on.

I really love what MSI did with this motherboard. It looks really nice especially with the added carbon fiber on some parts. I also really liked that it came with 4 ram slots and audio boost 4. I bought this motherboard with some skepticism with the fact that it had two reviews. I recently bought another motherboard that failed me and crossed my fingers with this one. So far, its been a fantastic motherboard with no complaints. The 4 leds that indicate what is wrong are really helpful when troubleshooting problems. It was a bit big for my case but it still fit. The manual it came with was really helpful with QR links to youtube videos if you wanted a demostration. I am very happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend it! The instructions are really informative and helpful.

Do not buy if you are going to use Ryzen chips with integrated graphics. The one I received had an older BIOS version that was not compatible without an update. The website says it is compatible but new stock boards must not be available yet. This was not an issue for me because I knew of the possible issue before hand and I have an older AM4 CPU laying around to do the update. If you don’t have that option it can be very hard to source one in a rural area. If you have the time you can also get a loaner CPU from AMD. That being said once the update was done this board works great. Overclocking is simple and four RAM slots if you have 4 gig sticks of DDR4 and want to get to 16 gig.

When I first started up my computer it told me I had a memory configuration change and wanted me to press F1 or F2 to do something, but would not recognize my keyboard. I fixed this by simply rebooting.I had no problems overclocking my Corsair RAM to 3200Mhz with a Ryzen 1600 after updating the BIOS and using AMD’s updated driver (I did not try to overclock before installing the updates). The BIOS seemed easy to navigate with the arrow keys and it was a breeze to just turn XMP mode on and have it auto select the RAM’s memory profile. The board itself feels very solid, almost to a fault (it was very heavy), but I felt confident in not bending or damaging it. The aesthetic is pretty cool. I like the red LEDs, but I can only see it through holes in my case (no glass panes here!).Every connector worked as expected. The built-in audio sounds decent to me.My biggest annoyance was the IO shield – one of the tabs covers the USB 3 slot (by the USB C port) by default, and I didn’t notice until I had already screwed the motherboard in. I had to take the motherboard back out to bend the tab back on the IO shield (it was the only tab that blocked a port). Make sure you bend this tab back before you screw the motherboard in!

Good lower price board, look is clean and nice. Not much room for upgrades however. But works fine and does the job!

It works, and unlike an Abit motherboard, it posted on the first try. It was odd installing the heatsink that came stock because I had to take some wood screws out of the f-er. Otherwise I love the number of fan connections, all logically placed. It could come with some offsets for the extra screw holes. Placement of the ports seems off but Solid overall. I’m certain the port placement has to do with the form factor more than any design flaw.

My first MSi motherboard, in the past I’ve always used Asus or Gigabyte. Been using this motherboard for about 2 weeks and has been rock solid from day 1. Paired with AMD Ryzen 1700 and G.SKILL 16gb Model F4-2666C15D-16GVR memory. Very happy with my purchase.

Went through two of these motherboards in 6 months, both had the same issue. The first had this issue right when I installed it for the first time. The second one worked for about half a year with light use, until the same issue occurred again. The motherboard seems to not be able to detect my GPU, although it works fine and the fans are spinning. On both occasions I have tested my GPU in other PCs, I think these motherboards just have faulty PCI-E slots. DO NOT BUY.

Put this in a new build for a friend that runs a graphic design business, and it’s EXACTLY what we wanted. The red LED’s aren’t too aggressive, and the black/gray color scheme gives it a nice look against the red LED fans and case accents.Aside from the visuals, this board has been performing as well as I expected, with plenty of extra features for the price. I’m running an old MSI 970 Gaming board on my personal machine, but when I make the jump to Ryzen, I might have to get one of these for myself …

Got this motherboard along with Ryzen 5 1600 and Ballistix DDR4 2400 memory and I’ very impressed so far:Pros:-Love the white look-Everything worked like a charm right from the start-Has a good set of standard peripherals/slots including good Audio and USB-C, 4 PCI-X slots allow you to plug the 2 slot video card and keep 2 more available-Has a set of diagnostic LEDs for CPU/Mem/Video/HDD problems (instead of counting beeps)-Packaging includes well designed note on which slots to install the memory sticks into and how to install standard AMD Wraith cooler-Plenty of Fan connectors and you can control speed of all 3 and 4 pin fans from BIOS/MSI Command Center app-Overclocking is quite easy from the MSI Command Center app-You can turn off the LED using the MSI Gaming appCons:-Be patient with boot sequence – it takes a bit longer from the moment you turn it on to the bios screen than on the older motherboards.-Wake on USB is disabled by default so you need to enable it in BIOS to wake up using Keyboard/MouseOther thoughts:I was on the fence with the AMD Ryzen 5 vs Intel i5 platform but actually the motherboard played a big role in the decision – basically it’s $100 less than the z370 motherboards which you can use to buy 8GB of RAM. And the perf of the Ryzen 5 is amazing – 6 cores/12 threads are super fast no matter what you throw on it.

The B350 pcmate has so far been treating me quite well. The bios is as promised quite pleasant to use, and the old compatibility problems have by this point been mostly fixed. In order to achieve optimal functionality you may want to update your bios ASAP after purchase, but fortunately, the process is quite streamlined. Some minor complaints I have, are the the board appears to de-energize peripherals during loading, meaning that entering bios requires you to repeatedly press DEL in order to hit the sweet spot where the keyboard is actually on, and that MSI’s LED controller –mystic light– is pretty crappy. Minor to be sure.

I’ve been building high performance PCs since the mid eighties. Guess I’ve seen just about every issue at this point.Built this with new 7-2700x, 32gb of corsair mem, and a corsair PSU. Read some of the helpful comments here and around. Still can’t get rid of the CPU and Mem issue indicators. After reading of similar experiences and trying fixes, it seems to me the bios issues are so substantial regarding the support for CPU and mem, its not worth the trouble. I’ll see if I can return it.

I give a fair review due to the way the board was configured. The SATA ports are in a odd configuration. two facing up and two facing to the side. When I installing a video card onto the board SATA port 1 is blocked.BIOS update is rather strange in that you have to have a bootable UBD then copy and paste the BIOS updates onto so you can flash the BIOS.while trying to install Windows 10 1703 build it would not take for any reason.Found out from a odd post that the hard Drive has to be formatted as GPTAfterwards is was easy to install the OS. Note I did use Serva PXE to install windows 10 OSDo note that if you are installing the Chipset drive use the one from AMD. The manufacture does not maintain the most current Chipset drivers.Overall not to pleased with the way the BIOS is configured and it could really use a greate deal of refinement. After some hit a misses I was able to turn off the bios bootup image.Installing the memory should of been a no brainer. Wrong had to reseat the RAM multiple time before the motherboard responded correctly. I am inclined to beleave that the cause is the way that the RAM slots are configured. Should use both sides with the clip in instead of just one side.

Nice looking and fairly well priced AM4 motherboard. Compatible with Ryzen 5 1600 out the box, haven’t tested any other chips in it. One, fairly major, complaint is that I cannot get my RAM (duel channel Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000mhz) to run any higher than 2666mhz. I enable the second AXMP profile and the system won’t post until I reset the CMOS. Ryzen chips thrive on high frequency memory and this board advertises compatibility with upto 3200mhz memory. I’m sure this will be fixed in later BIOS updates but for now it seems to be an issue.

A good motherboard with better features than many other B350 motherboards. However, at the time of this writing and using the latest BIOS (7B00v13), I have been unable to get my RAM to run at its rated speed and it is listed on the boards QVL. For reference, the RAM being used is 2X8GB 3200mhz Corsair (CMK16GX4M2B3200C16W) and is running at 2933mhz.The BIOS is straightforward, though there was an issue when overclocking where the BIOS reported 3.8ghz on the CPU but it wasn’t sticking once into Windows. This was resolved via CMOS reset and has worked perfectly since.I would recommend this to anyone who wants to run an overclocked Ryzen 7 and has no plans for SLI. However, for people going with Ryzen 5 or not planning to overclock, I’d suggest looking at the cheaper B350 boards.

Great UI, for serious OC I would highly recommend an X370 though. This board did an awesome job of OCing Corsair LPX Vengeance 2x8GB 3200MHz RAM to the advertised speed using simply the XMP profiles. No manual OCing was even needed. The OC was very stable after stress tests and gaming for a week. This board looks simply awesome though with the LED running around the sound board and the hardware issue LED has already saved me and made OC conflicts easier to handle.Overall, it’s very impressive for the price. I would highly recommend it if you are using RAM and CPU OC profiles from A-XMP rather than doing intensive manual OCing.***One very irritating thing about this mobo is that there’s about a 20-30 second black screen pause when powering your PC on before you have your bios screen prompt show up. It adds that much time to your boot sequence, so it is annoying. I am hoping MSI will patch this soon in upcoming bios updates.

The motherboard itself worked great for my build. I used a Ryzen 5 1600. Many said it didn’t work however it worked for me. The reason I am giving it 3 stars. Is a DOA motherboard. The CPU Debug lit up and went off. The Dram did the same. However in forums people said this signaled a dead motherboard. Got a replacement and the PC booted up.

Seems to work good to me, no issues so far. Booted from my drive, just had to reauthorize Win10, no issues there. I had no reason to do a fresh install, its sooooo much easier to just boot from the old drive vs reinstalling all my programs and vst plugins. It’s super f’n annoying to have to dig up a million license codes.I’m not over clocking. Seems like overclocking would be easy enough. The BIOS seems OK, has easy/advanced options like most. Now, personally… I don’t like the white light LED’s behind the mobo but some might. Also… there is a super annoying red LED on the front of the board, I think it has something to do with having an on chip GPU or something. Anyways, it doesn’t turn off after booting…. SO I stuck a piece of electric tape over it. I’m not going to knock a star based on the crappy LED’s but there should be away in the BIOS to run all the LED’s off imo. The red light on the front is super stupid and bright though, it looks like crap.BIOS flashing was super easy with a thumb drive, no issues, really easy. I don’t think the board has a/b BIOS options but it should if it doesn’t.Can’t speak to the onboard audio, I have a sound card.
Chris B. –
The board has been working great so far paired up with my Ryzen 7 1700. The only reason i gave it 4 stars is because when i set up my build the board would turn on but i got a no signal message on my monitor. After some research I found out that I needed to remove the CMOS battery for a few minutes and install it again, after doing this like 3 times it worked. After that I installed some drivers and haven’t had any problems. So if you have some problems with your board do some research first, you might be able to fix it no problem.

I got this motherboard for my budget PC build and was not dissapointed. It’s got plenty of connections for a standard build. The BIOS is incredibly user-friendly and offers simple overclocking options, but make sure you know the limitations of your hardware before trying to OC. It’s a very sturdy board as well, and I had no issues while installing. I would defintely recommend this to anyone on a budget.Picture is of final PC build with this MOBO, an MSI 1050ti, and a Ryzen 5 1600 CPU, all in a CoolerMaster Masterbox lite 5 RGB case.

I received my second MSI B350 Tomahawk mobo today, and shortly thereafter my second Tomahawk mobo bricked. I built a PC with a Ryzen 5 1600, MSI RX 580 Gaming X+, 500 GB SSD, and 3000 MHz Corsair Vengeance LED memory. All of these components work wonderfully besides the mobo. After flashing the BIOS to v 1.5, I successfully booted into Windows and ran a successful run of Cinebench. I then restarted my PC, entered the BIOS, and attempted to enable the 2933 MHz XMP Profile. I chose this action because my RAM was only running at 2133 MHz. My PC restarted, loaded the MSI BIOS screen, and then stopped displaying video output to my monitor. Further attempts to restart my PC, clear the CMOS by jumper and removing the battery, and attempting to boot from a USB stick were unsuccessful. I am returning this Mobo for good and am currently in the market for a new B350 board. Love MSI’s GPUs, not a fan of their mobos.

My headphones and earbuds work fine. But when connecting through the 2.5mm jack on my case or those jacks on this motherboard, it won’t record my voice, yet you can hear sound from it. After I installed the newest driver from MSI webpage it still won’t work. I tried to search for it and try to change the settings of realtek manager or sound panel but no it still won’t work. So I ended up buying a new sound card and spent a lotta time for nothing. I called their support but basically what they do is to send it to them. No help at all. Because I built two PC with the same specs no way the two motherboards are both broken. If I put in my headphones through USB it works fine and can record so it’s the realtek driver’s problem since if you connect through usb it uses my headphones’ own driver. I won’t buy any MSI stuff from now on even if it’s cheap.

I bought this board over the tomahawk board since this was cheaper at the time of purchase . In I’m glad I did too it a wonderful board same number of power phases that the hawk has to my knowledge , Over clocks my r5 1600 to 3.9ghz and my ram overclocked to 2166mhz for 2133mhz .I know they have more updates bios wise that will help me get the ram up faster but for now I’m happy with it .An added bonus is the fact that the board has this nice led strip on the board that can be set to flash or pulse which is nice .The test led lights that let you know if there something wrong with the cpu or ram or pump is a nice added bonus when you trying to overclock and not sure what you did wrong it lets you know an also reset the bios so that you can start fresh again all in all I love it .

UPDATE: GPU led was gone after recent BIOS update with M-flash and a lot more advanced overclocking and other bios options have been added definitely made tuning a lot more precise. So kudos there.~The Msi Command Center isn’t the best for Overclocking in my opinion considering it’s lack of tuning functions while operating & OC’ing in the OS. Also It keeps setting a static (constant) processing state 3.5ghz (as an example) and doesn’t fluctuate up or down. That being said I’ve turned gameboost on so it’s not just constantly running at 3.9 ghz and fluctuates from the base clock instead..I’m using~MSI tomahawk b350~Ryzen 1300x Overclocked with gameboost easily to 3.9 easily with the stock wraith cooler @ only 45C~Corsair Vengence 3000mhz Overclocked to 3200mHz easily in the BIOS~EVGA 1050 Ti GPU Overclocked to 1831 MHz easily~EVGA 500b (500watt) PSU~Fsp CMT210 case…This was my first AMD build and first MSI board so getting use to the BIOS settings and UI took a little bit other than the problems listed above I’m definitely impressed/happy with the build especially being under $600 so far.

I am writing this review to enter into the MSI Reward ProgramThe only complaint I have about the motherboard is that I still can’t get it to run my RAM at it’s full speed. I have some Corsair 16gb DDR4-3200, but I can only get it to run at a max of 2800.Everything else about the mobo is nice. Plenty of slots for ram (I only use 2), has the required slot for my GPU needs (a single 1080 ti), has onboard audio (no video), plenty of USB 2.0 and 3.0 slots, as well as 4 sata ports for hard drives and disk drives. There’s also an m.2 slot, but I’m not ready to use that yet.I bought this as a replacement for another copy of the same board that I damaged while installing my Wraith Cooler on my Ryzen 1700 (screw driver accident. Things happen, okay?)

It would’ve been nice to have a USB 3.1 header on the board, but otherwise everything is more than acceptable. Overclocking headroom is stable. I had some difficulty connecting the cable for front USB 3.0 support, and had to bend some point back into place. That’s less of a gripe about the board layout though, and more of a general build difficulty in the Fractal Design Meshify C.

Biggest complaints.M.2 slot is behind the graphics cardand the freaking BIOS update is always a risk of bricking the equipment.New build is sitting completely bricked due BIOS update failing and not recovering… even using a USB stick in the 2.0 slot. It’s a simple board and easy enough to install though.EDIT:Was able to unbrick the MOBO after resetting the CMOS. (Heads up this is the only way to reset this MOBO)EDIT 2:A year later I tried to get the speed on the ram I purchased by turning on XMP, it immediately fried the motherboard. They are able to RMA the board but it will take 10-30 days if you go through the regular RMA process and they MIGHT be able to speed things up with an advanced RMA process of 5+ days but you will need to put a deposit on the motherboard.I would pass on this motherboard and look at one that does not need special settings to run at advertised accepted ram speeds.

First generation Ryzen is flawless. If you are planning on installing a second generation Ryzen, make sure the BIOS has at least the G revision. Tried installing second generation Ryzen with older BIOS resulted in error when booting. The EZ Debug LED’s would light RAM, CPU, then nothing. It leads you to believe that you have a graphics card (VGA) problem, but you do not. If the BIOS is before H or G revision, you will need a first generation Ryzen chip installed in order to POST into the BIOS and perform and update via USB. The latest BIOS can be found at MSI’s website under the B350 Tomahawk product page. Click on support, and the links should be presented to you. Once the BIOS is up to date, no problems at all. Easy as pie. Been there, done that. Any question? I am happy to help.

love it works great no problems. the only issue i have is that there’s a red light from the gpu error light. nothing is wrong with my gpu it has to do with the boot up process. my gpu is after the ryzen processor. I guess because of that it thinks there is not one when there is and throws a code. but great for dual graphics cards =) and all that space for ram ohhh yahh. just be aware you need to buy a kit like 4 two gb ram sticks. it has to have two of the same size and brand in order to work. wish it had other colors i could use to change the pulse feature.

Arrived and worked brilliantly right from the box. No problems with installation, except for the fact my computer case isn’t set up for a Micro ATX, but that’s my own fault. Support from MSI has been top notch in terms of updates and extra cool software.

Pretty good board with a good amount of features such as the EZ DEBUG lights on the board that indicate what component isn’t working and M.2 support. But it only has 2 RAM slots so i’m stuck with 8GB (2x4GB) unless I sell it and buy a 2x8GB kit. Not the board’s fault, just something to keep in mind.

Everything about this board works. Its decent, does what I expected it to which was to overclock my r5 1600x cpu and my ram…it supports ram up to 3200mhz, though right now the highest I can get the ram up to is 2933mhz. MSI said they’re rolling out bios updates for memory stability, as of right now I have bios version 2.6, the most recent bios, still cant get 3200mhz. Hope this changes for the better.Boot times for bios on this mobo is somewhat of an annoyance, the only reason it doesnt bother me as much is because I dont shut down my pc often, if at all. I just put the pc to sleep. If you”re one to turn off/restart your pc often you will notice this. My pc itself boots up quickly into windows from ssd but so long as its still in bios stage it takes probably 3 to 5 seconds longer than other motherboards to move from bios over to OS. That is somewhat ridiculous in this day and age. Hope bios updates can/will iron this out.As for everything else, it functions fine…very well under load and standby. The utilities that go with this motherboard are accurate, the fan controllers etc work and adjust to every fine tune, also the hot swap monitor modes you can choose from are good as well. Decent board for the 80 dollar price.

What a great buy for a first time build or a pro builder, has great capabilities. I run a AMD raydon 5 2600 processor stock out of the box runs around 3.4ghz. With the easy game mode button in the bios (which only turns off “cool & quiet mode” and auto fan mode) i get 3.85ghz easily. I was able to OC at 4.1ghz manually with great stability. The option to overclock your ram in the Bios is awesome too, my ram out of box 2400mt/s after OC I got it to 2933mt/s stable. Just keep in mind AMD makes GREAT product but heat is its worst enemy, make cooling your processor and board a priority while building your machine for optimal, stable performance… With that said..Only “Cons” I have is “some” performance changes made in the bios doesn’t show in Windows 10 pro although the performance is there. Must be a bug in the bios. All in all great bang for your buck if you want a great performing gaming rig!

I bought this MOBO on May 3, 2017 and I was waiting until now before I reviewed it just encase I ran into any problems.I paired this board with a Ryzen 5 1600 and I’ve been running it overclocked at 3.8ghz and I’ve been using the XMP settings for my RAM since day one and still have not run into any cooling, or technical problems. Bios is easy to install and update. UEFI is sleek and very user friendly. Has more USB ports then most micro ATX AM4 MOBO 8 total on the back (4×2.0 4×3.1), and connections for up to 6 (4×2.0 2×3.1) more on the front. For the price you can’t beat this micro ATX MOBO my only complaint is that there are only 2 system Fan connectors (counting cpu fan header) so if you want more then 2 fans make sure your fans have a Molex Connector before you purchase. This board has lasted me almost 8 months as of writing this and I expect it to last me several years without any problems (will update review if something happens)

When the board came I was so excited to build my PC. It had quite a heft to it and I didn’t expect it to be so big and be so “Fresh”. The CPU installment went pretty well the only thing that caught me off guard was that I didn’t know it needed 9 screws to install and for the default AMD cooler bracket to be taken off. Other that bios and everything else was a breeze but I’m unable to use my HDMI port and I gave up on looking for solutions since a “simple google, Reddit, forum, search didn’t work”. I’m not sure if it’s defective or a problem with my Ryzen 5.

Be sure to update the BIOS immediately after receipt if you intend to overclock. It has a bug that causes the cpu to perform poorly when a custom voltage is set.Once updated, works as expected.

I can’t read apparently, and didn’t realize the motherboard has relatively bright red LEDs going around it. Looks pretty cool but doesn’t mesh with my case (again, my fault). The mount holes didn’t fit the wraith cooler that came with my Ryzen CPU, but 3/4 holes did in fact work fine, so it’s all good. Haven’t had any problems with it. Also, during OS boot, it covers up the whole screen with the low quality image with huge letters “GAMING PLUS” but I have an SSD and my pc boots in about 10 seconds so again, not really a problem. Also, it only has two SATA ports so if you’re a storage freak, it won’t work well– I have an SSD and a mechanical hard drive and that’s all I need, so it works great.

I had some troubles with this board initially, but after re-seating everything and getting a better HSF, it’s rock solid. Overclocking is easy enough, board looks good, and bios update was easy with a flash drive. Rocking my 1600x at 4.0ghz on all cores at very solid temps. I haven’t tried to go higher than 4ghz. It also runs my Flare X 3200 2×8 Ram kit at rated speed and timings, no issue. I wanted the comparable Asus B350 board (Rog Strix), but it had no rebate and was way more at the time. My last Asus AM3+ board was the best board I’d ever had, but I took a chance on MSI. I am not using the onboard sound, but I am very happy with everything else about this board. Now to just wait and see if the $30 rebate shows up!Update!! I was having problems with cold boot not working, sometimes taking 3-5 times to post, probably due to not enough DRAM voltage at startup. The new bios, released 1-29-2018, after flashing, fixed it.

This motherboard has been a pain in the rear for me. The plastic clip on the 16x PCI slot is nearly impossible to undo when you have a full sized GPU in it. The bios is alright but its far from the best overclocking board out there. There’s no way to disable the while LEDs on the side or the VERY BRIGHT vga light at the top of the board. Overall, you can probably get something better for a little more money

Out of the box it’s an average board won’t give you much but if you don’t plan to overclock it’s perfect. If you do plan on overclocking 100% update your bios to the latest version or your overclock will more than likely lead to a failed boot and it’s a pain to reset. So once you update and get the kinks out the board is perfect. Obviously this is a budget board but with 4 ram slots I can’t complain. I hope in the future thy come with an updated bios out of the box so pc users like me don’t get a heart attack after overclocking.

So far so good..Setup and installation was normal.I used the A12 9800…I haven’t tried to overclock the cpu, or memory but I am running 4 RX 560s + the APU to mine ZEC and the board is stable and solid.. impressed as I usually only buy Gigabyte boards even if they cost a bit more.I updated the Bios no problem and MSI has a ton of utility’s for this board. This board was at a great price and I wanted to test the new AM4 chipset and APU and even tho I don’t like red the board looks better than any I ever owned. The lights on the bored can be controlled by the MSI gaming app.Anyway if you can pick up this board around 50 $ it’s a good value.I will try out a Ryzen cpu eventually with this board.

Purchased one of these motherboards for a completely new system that I was assembling. This motherboard was the foundation for my entire system. This motherboard offered all the perks of a B-350 and then some. the features and quality is so go that it rivaled some X370 motherboards. I have since upgraded my CPU twice and every time it went flawlessly. I would strongly recommend this mother board for entry and mid level motherboard for use with any AM4 chipset.

The only reason I am giving this motherboard a low rating is because the board that I got was DOA. I RMA the board and MSI customer service was quick and got to the root of the problem. They sent me a new board, I have yet to use it because I could not delay my build any further. I ended up buying

The board itself is good as long as you can get a good bios version on it. I bought this to use with a new Ryzen 3 2200G and, as expected, I had to update the bios. The process itself is easy using the ez flash utility. After the bios update the 2200g worked well. I then went into the bios to begin overclocking the chip and could not find the gfx overclock option. After some googling I found out that the most up to date version of the bios (7A37v1F) for whatever reason did not include an option to overclock the iGPU. So, I had to put an older dated bios on. Using 7A37v1E worked as the options for overclocking and voltage adjustment were back. After all that the board has worked well and I was able to get a decent overclock. I was also able to get my ram to use the XMP option to get 3200mhz. A good board if you know what you’re doing.

Maybe mine was DOA, but as far as I can tell based on what others have said, this board does NOT support Ryzen 5 out of the box. It will supposedly work fine after booting with a Ryzen 7, but don’t anticipate it to work out of the box with your Ryzen 5 1600. My board wouldn’t post and continued to give a CPU error. After several hours, I gave up and bought an ASUS board which worked immediately. So beware which Ryzen chip you plan on using this with.
Ashley –
I was nervous jumping into the new AM4 boards as the tech is still so new, however with that said. This board has worked flawlessly so far. Allowed my memory to clock to 3000mhz in the bios with no issues, and also includes some nice firmware. The only thing I do not like is the fan control/tweaking software inside windows, its not very UI friendly compared to ASUS AI Suite.

So I had this board for just over a month when and I was relatively happy with it. It looked good, and except for a ridiculous boot time, it was playing games and working as it should. Then, it lost its will to live. Anytime I booted up something resource intensive, my computer would black out. Black screen, no keyboard, no mouse, but the motherboard was still on. At first I thought it was the video card failing, so I returned it, but the issues persisted. So I purchased an Asus ROG Stryx, and my problem has gone away.I’m going to allow my 4-star review to remain because the board and bios have a nice refreshing look, and I’m going to assume that I just got a bad one, because it was working beautifully with a Ryzen 5 and a GTX 1060.

MSI has kept up the BIOS updates on this board, and I’ve been really impressed with it. It was one of the first boards to get AGESA updates and it was quick as well. I’m currently able to get 3000mhz off my DDR4 3000mhz ram, and have no stability issues whatsoever. The BIOS itself is fantastic, and easy to navigate. Overall really impressed with this motherboard, and I’m planning on buying another one soon to upgrade my wife’s PC as well. The audio is fantastic, and works as expected. Don’t expect anything mind blowing, but it works fine for gaming and listening to music.I currently have my R1600 overclocked to 4ghz, and MSI’s XAMP profile worked like a charm. I didn’t have to modify any of the XAMP profile to get a stable 4ghz.Overall, really impressed with this board. As a person with 20 years of PC building experience, I highly recommend this motherboard.

I booted first in Linux to test out the mobo, CPU , RAM and my existing Radeon RX 550 video card and everything was smooth and played well together, no curious boot-up issues or system hangs. I ran it for several hours without anything visibly glitching. I did a clean install of Windows 10 Pro and again, no issue or hangs and the hardware played nice with Windows. Now it’s running daily and we’ll see what the future reliability shows.

As a motherboard I really liked it, my only problems were the BIOS and the amount of USB ports, neither were big issues. the colors went really well with my white/red/black theme. the motherboard looks sleek and professional. I would definitely put this motherboard in my next build.

Works fairly well now, but installing the most recent bios was much more of a pain than it should have been, and their documentation/ support site was pretty terrible. I could not even search for my motherboard’s bios on there site.

Seriously disappointed in MSI. I have two other AM2 MSI boards, which have stood up against the test of time to this day.. I believe it’s some compatibility issue with the AM4 socket.1st board returned an overcurrent error. Which I have found others have this experience with the same MSI B350 PC MATE. It also appeared water damaged?! Tried everything.2nd REPLACEMENT board had some dirt in the freakin’ sockets!I could assume it was the supplying company, sending nasty boards. Can’t be truly certain. With all of this being said, the boards look sturdy and well made. But I won’t be buying another MSI product for a while. Such a shame.

So I typically use MSI or ASUS motherboards. For my new Ryzen build I decided to spring for the Asus Crosshair AM4 – a $250 motherboard. Did it for the RGB and wanted a good board for overclocking, and had nothing but issues from day 1, just like a lot of boards. After the 4th BIOS update on that board bricked it (Too much voltage to the Dims) I decided to RMA it and go with something else. I trust MSI above other manufactures based on years of good experience, and I was right again to trust them.Seamless setup, no bugs, no issues, was able to overclock my 1700x to 3.95gz (1.35v I have it on water but I lost the silicon lottery 🙁 ). And the Ram overclocking is SO EASY. So on the website they say the 350 chipset only supports up to 2666 ram overclock. However that was just at release, since then with BIOS updates the board now supports much higher ram speed (at least 3200mhz) which Ryzen directly benefits from.MSI has a technology called A-XMP – It’s exactly what it sounds like. A-XMP is a XMP overclocking technology they did just for RYZEN using timings and voltages based off Ryzen not INTEL which is what every other Ryzen Board uses. Asus has something similar, but it was based off AM3 and Intel timings. It works like a charm, just click the profile and Voltages and Ram speed is rock freaking solid without any hassle (I keyed in my timings and voltages after the fact as I like to fine tune, but the set voltage was not that much above what I set it to, about .6 – offset) Currently have the ram stable at 2933, but planning on going to 3200 with the next BIOS update.Hands down best board to pair with Ryzen if you don’t need the 370 chipset for SLI.

Great little Mobo. It can overclock ram and CPU. I have a 2600 x on it. Just used the same case as my son’s old fx8300.The only thing that was a problem was the location of the pci e 1x slot. My video card didn’t let me plug in my wifi card.

So far so good has the basics for a 2018 build without breaking the budget. Have not had any problems with it yet (Had if for a month so far). Does not come with all the bells and chimes that higher end mobos come with but at this price point you cannot complain.

Bought the MSI B350M Mortar Pro Series. Like the other review, I had to learn the hard way why it wasn’t working after I put together the PC. It wasn’t working at first and I thought something was wrong with my Ryzen chip. After searching and going through MSI’s customer service, I learned the motherboard BIOS needed to be updated to recognize my Ryzen chip since it was a newer model. The work around was to either return it and find something else (I would recommend this for anyone looking at this motherboard) or find a Ryzen chip that the motherboard would recognize and update the BIOS. I was fortunate enough to have an old Ryzen chip laying around that the motherboard recognized. It was a pain to swap out chips just to update the BIOS. Hopefully the newer motherboards have the updated BIOS.Would not recommend this motherboard.

Good motherboard although not a good choice if you wanted to add a better sound card and a large gamers card at the same time. The larger video card will block the pci port under, but if you are not against external sound card then you should be fine. As for the rest of the install pretty straight forward, nothing to complicated for first time builders to understand.

the mobo i can seemed fine till i i got everything in and tried to boot, it would not post with both ram still in each slot but it would work if i only used one stick in either slot so i not the slots were fine as well as my sticks. i updated my bios and still nothing changed, i change the speed of the ram and still nothing if i try to use both sticks at the same time…. its a big turn off for me on msi products which is sad cause they have nice mobo’s. i seen a lot of the same issues with the msi b350 gaming pro

Update: 6/8: This is a bit delayed but I did want to update my review. I upped the rating to 5 stars for several reasons. The reason for the bump to 5 stars: AMD Customer Service, ease of BIOS update, performance of the Ryzen/MSI system, and the price point for the system.AMD shipped me the boot kit I needed to update the BIOS on the motherboard for free. No shipping charges at all. I thought that was great customer service. The BIOS update was dead simple. Downloaded the BIOS update to old computer, put it on a USB Thumb drive, and then boot the new box with the USB Thumb drive plugged in. Of course, I had to do that with the processor that AMD loans out. Once the update was finished, unplug everything, remove the boot chip, put in the new Ryzen, and re-boot.Since I have updated the BIOS, there have been at least 2 updates to the Ryzen drivers. MSI and AMD have some nice software to make the system configuration very dynamic, depending on task and what not. There is a very good review on Tom’s Hardware page about the Ryzen setup if you want some really in depth technical info, including benchmarks. The only games I have really played on the system so far are Rift and Skyrim. They both work much better since the latest drivers have been installed so make sure you update if you end up with a Ryzen system.I am really impressed with this system considering that it doesn’t have a video card installed. I would not hesitate to build another or to build one of these for someone else. If you are looking for a good computer to pretty much do anything including some gaming, I would put a box built on the Ryzen chip on your list for consideration. The price point is very attractive!Update 3/15: Bumped it a star. AMD contacted me already which was fantastic. They are sending a boot kit and arranging for shipping back which was very nice. I’m awaiting the chip so I can update the BIOS. Hopefully that will go smoothly. I really want to see what this build will do. I’ll update after I’ve received the chip and get things going. Then I can actually review the hardware instead of whine about how it doesn’t work out of the box. Guess I’m just trying to share my experience since this has been very abnormal from my previous build experiences. BIOS updates are normal, not booting because of needing a BIOS update is something I’ve just experienced.I bought a AMD Ryzen 5 2400G chip to use in this motherboard. I’m only giving this product a 2 because I don’t know if I like it yet or not. I know that I do not like the hassel that this project has turned into. I received a motherboard that was manufactured about a year ago. The issue is that the BIOS is not updated to allow this new AMD APU to boot. I emailed MSI. They responded quickly but that was useless. It took 4 calls to get the correct number. The numbers on the website and their app are not the correct numbers for motherboard support. Once I had the right number, the MSI person was helpful. Sort of. More like, they had useful information. They said my BIOS was too old to support the new chip. They said I had to contact AMD and request a boot kit. AMD has a program where they will send you a low end APU that the board will boot with. You can use it to update the BIOS to support the new chip. They have several stipulations to be able to take advantage of this program. It seems AMD has their hearts in the right place but this build is turning out to be a pain in the neck. I heard back from AMD right away but have had no updates since I responded with the information they requested. Worst case, I’ll send the APU back and figure something else out. I was really excited to build this box to see how the APU performed. Now I’m just tired of dealing with having a pile of non-functioning parts. If I get this thing running, I’ll update this review.

For the price this is a great mATX motherboard. Installed nicely in my system. The colour is sort of an off-white/grey, not a bright white if that makes a difference to anybody trying to colour match this with other components. Setup was easy and the MSI system easily allows for overclocking

This is an excellent MoBo, great for gaming. It has a wonderful design, the chipset and LEDs are looking sharp, and I have so far found no errors with it at all. Keep up the great work, MSI!

The look of the board is simple, as I prefer a board without all the RGB that most boards have now a days. I researched the specification of the board, and found this is what I need for my build.
Fed Smoker –
Junk. Put it together and it powered up fine. ItNever got to post. LED’s lit up saying could and ram were bad. Did the CMOS reset and it bricked. Wouldn’t power up again. Was reading that it might not support a ryzen 5 without a bios update but wouldn’t know because it never posted. Returning and trying an Asus board.Edit: may not have been this board that failed me. The ryzeb boards are finnekey about ram. Get crucial and it will be fine. This board definitely did brick on me. However my new setup with an Asus board, 16gb crucial ram, and a 1070 worked out fine. Look into an Asus board, supports 4 sticks on a mini board

It works. It’s not the best or fastest but that’s not what you are buying this for. Make sure you have the latest BIOS updates. MSI dropped a new one the same night my install was taking place, so I spent a week wondering why the system was so slow and my 3200mhz Corsair LPX memory wouldn’t post above the 1600’s. Once I flashed the new BIOS it all worked perfectly and clocked as advertised.I would also like to add that the warehouse version I received had been improperly installed once before with oversize screws, probably by someone who had no idea what they were doing. This caused some cosmetic wear to the reinforced mounting sockets, but no significant damage.

Enjoying this board. When I first put my build together it wouldn’t post and the GPU “EZ Debug” light would stay lit. I tried reseating over and over and resetting the cmos with no luck. I put in a known to work gt 750 card and it posted just fine. I installed windows, and figured might as well try the 1060 I bought with it and it posted just fine. I don’t know why it didn’t post with it in the first place but it’s working great now. I have my CPU stable at 4.0ghz and my GPU at 2000mhz and it works like a charm. I didn’t have to update the bios for everything to work, still stumped why it didn’t post with the 1060 originally but does now and is working great.

Pros:-Looks amazing. Really pulls together my white and black theme.- As far as I know, there aren’t any other B350 motherboards that have this white color scheme, so it is unique in that aspect.Cons:- RAM overclocks aren’t great. With my Corsair 3000MHz RAM, I struggle even getting 2666 to be stable, regardless of the settings.- “Mystic Sync” capabilities extremely limited. Have only eight color options, with none of the effects I anticipated having.- Loads of bloatware that accompany any MSI software downloads.Overall, if ASUS had a white B350 motherboard, I would go with ASUS. Much less bloatware.

Pros: 1.Cheap (I bought it for 54 dollars) 2. Works as advertised. 3. Bios is neat and organized.Cons: 1. SATA ports 3 and 4 are stacked on top of each other. Since they are stacked my GTX 980 sits on it. 2. BIOS only supports Gen 1 Ryzen cpus out of box. 3. No dual bios.

Very disappointed with this purchase, stay away from this motherboard if you want a crossfire system or have RAM over 2133.Even tough it’s states it supports crossfire(rx 570), it doesn’t. The performance when crossfire is enabled is just awful, I suspect the different bus speed of the PCI-E slots to be the problem. I had to remove my wireless PCI-E x1 card just to be able to enable crossfire. A crossfire system without internet is pretty useless…As for the RAM, I’ve updated the BIOS to the latest version and it still won’t go over 2133mhz.

Excellent motherboard, one of the best choices that you can make when it comes to building a new PC based on Ryzen. I have tried a few motherboard over time and I can easily say that this is the best that I have seen at this price point. It performs very well and comes packed full of features for this price point and did I mention that it actually looks good as well ?Extra Info and Tips:Make sure to check that the RAM that you are using is compatible with this board, this is VERY important. It can be easily checked on their support page and this ensures a no headache PC build.Update the BIOS as soon as you can, it’s very easy if you follow the steps on their website, don’t be afraid to visit their support page for more info.

I bought this MB for the reason that It’s MSI AND it was ALSO the most bang for the buck available on the market! That and the fact that NO other company has such a solid reputation of working so closely with the great company of AMD, which is a winning combo no matter how you cut it ! Their business philosophy of putting customer needs FIRST align perfectly with each other the same as giving us MORE for our hard earned money than any other companies in the industry. Three days after recieving the ‘board I installed it, and it fired right up, NO problems! It was my FIRST PC build and thanks to the documentation It was EASY! You have to compare photos and literature from two documents though when connecting front case wires so take your time there. Everything was SO easy to see and understand on the BIOS and the entire BIOS itself looks very cool! You can just tell a lot of time went into designing the layout and features. There is ONLY one negative and it’s no slight to MSI at all as ALL companies are equally un-involved , and that is supporting LINUX! The writing has been on the wall for three years now, that’s a decade and a half in computer years, since Windows pulled their arrogant snub to their customers. Now the tsunami is ramping up by the tens of millions. In two years Linux will be the number one OS. They ARE underdogs right now BUT at the beginning of the year Intel was saying, “who’s AMD?”, NOW was-up? Savvy Hardware and software companies, (hint hint) may already have prepared for this eventuality and are poised to be IN FRONT of the curve by having ALL of their drivers available to Linux OS users so as to be first to reap the rewards! The companies who do that WILL be the big time winners this year, especially if those companies already drew some blood by surprising the competition with a SUPERIOR platform! (Hint Hint!) There is blood in the water, the predators who put it there had better eat fast because others will be getting their appetites back after a long time resting on their laurels. DRIVERS! Many companies are BLOATED and smiling at their hideous heft now. This is where lean, hungry companies willing to do the right thing WIN! That means ALL of we, the consumer, WINS! MSI, AMD, you’re BOTH AWESOME!!! Now throw us a bone and sit back and watch consumers STARVING for freedom and choice take you to another Galaxy as far as market share!

I got this motherboard used and i was surprised it was like new, i received it with its original box and all its accesories. I was a little afraid that it will give me some problems, you know when you buy used things there is always that risk, but it was in excellent condition, both functional and aesthetics.I love the layout of this mobo, it has all the connectors i need. I don’t like that it has pin connectors for com and parallel ports, i guess some people may use it in some cases but those connectors should not be in a gaming motherboard. I wish it didn’t have a vga port either, who uses that port in 2018? Anyway, i guess some people need it.It works great with my AMD R5 1600, Crucial Ballistix ram 8GB at 2666MHz [one module] and MSI RX 560 4GB. I mostly use it to play games but i also do work on this computer, for multitasking is great. I will be upgrading to 16GB when ram prices go down.I gave it 4 stars because it has vga port and pins connectors for com and parallel ports, it’s 2018 people [i know this motherboard was launched last year but it still applies]. Anyway, it’s a great motherboard at an affordable price.

No cons come to mind aside from weak OC support, but thats not the boards fault. 5 stars
The Data Master –
Does its job. It was easy to install everything and put in my case. The ATX power ran into my hard drive cage and required some very tight sliding and fitting. This could be due to my case or the placement of power being too high (most cases have hard disks on the bottom, not the middle and usually are far enough away). The price was right, but even though I met the deadline for the rebate, MSI had nothing on file for this particular board (oh well). The color scheme is nice to look at when the case is open, but I can see some power users wanting more color with a see through case. There are only 4 SATA ports which is fine for me, but makes on-board raiding a bit difficult. Bootup is quick, but not as fast as my previous military grade motherboard. With the same SSD boot drive, I went from a 10 second boot (according to Win10 Task manager) to 18 seconds. Still much better than my old 386. Definitely worth a grab if you want in on Ryzen action, but don’t want a massive or costly board.

Everything was fine with this motherboard. The only thing I have complaints about this motherboard though is that it only comes with only one fan header, so you will definitely need a fan controller or splitter or SATA or MOLEX connector/hub. It is a pretty decent entry level motherboard. Another thing you need to be careful if is the I/O shield. There are small tabs protruding each opening and can be very sharp. I personally have already cut my index finder on them.

My motherboard did NOT come Ryzen 2000 ready. I was forced to purchase another CPU to update the bios. Now that I have my board works great. It works as advertised.I was sent older stock. If you order this board you are entering into a lottery and if you lose this lottery you will be forced to update the bios. If you contact MSI they will ask you to RMA the board which can take 6 weeks. If you contact AMD you will, at the least, wait 8 days for a boot kit.

Amazing motherboard for the price. BIOS have tons of options that I haven’t seen on an mATX board before. To be fair though I’ve only had full ATX boards for the past 5 years.I’m using these to build a small cluster, I picked up 4 and the double PCIE slots allows me to install one GPU per cluster node while also being able to install a second PCIE card for fast networking interconnect. Almost, done with my cluster build (waiting on more components).. will update my review when I’ve got it fully built!

New one clip mechanisms threw me off and didn’t have the side without a clip clicked in all the way. Pretty good Mobo, it has anything most people would need. I would give it 5 stars if it had spdif connectors, which I happened to need and didn’t realize it were missing from this one.

Good value, Worked right out of the box. Plenty quick enough for my application with a Ryzen 5 3400G processor.I wanted a reasonably priced Media and file server that could handle multiple simultaneous video streams for a few friends and family members. All’s running great. Currently set up running Ubuntu 18.xx Linux, Plex Server and Synergy KVM software so i don’t need to keep a keyboard and mouse connected. Using 16G DDR4, 500G M.2 PCIE NVME drive for OS and misc file storage and two 2 TB drives for media storage. Plenty of USB and SATA connectors. Only con, is that there is only two FAN Headers. Would have liked one more under bios control for the rear fan. One can argue I don’t really need it, but I like things to run cool. Again over all a good value!

Here’s what’s with this motherboard. To me, the design is really nice. The LED lights located next to the CPU and RAM Slots are useful, and while I am getting problems with the AMD Processors that most people have heard of, instead of using this motherboard, you should find a revamped one that will support processors, like the AMD Ryzen 5 2400 G with built in graphics. This also comes with removable braces for the CPU Fan. Overall, I am quite satisfied with my very first motherboard.

This motherboard has given me so many random issues in the time I’ve had it, firstly the onboard audio randomly decided to die one day only outputting static no matter what I did software-wise, I have to assume the hardware is to blame, I ended up just buying a sound card and not using the onboard audio, if you overclock your ram too high it’ll work fine for months on end then randomly your system won’t even post, the board won’t show any error codes either, just sits there in limbo, the only solution I’ve found to work is resetting the CMOS, super annoying, last time I buy a b350 grade board next time ill be buying a higher tier motherboardUPDATE:6 months later this board has developed another bizarre issue, it’ll stay on for days, sometimes weeks at a time until it randomly turns off and back on and the debug leds stay lit, after turning it off it will not respond to anything, even clearing the cmos, the only way i’ve found to fix this is by jumping out the power supply to make it turn on for a few seconds then quickly taking out the jumper and plugging it in to the board, this causes it to come back to life and work perfectly normally. almost like jump starting a car, i’ve never seen an issue like this on any other system i’ve ever built but i am buying a b450 board and getting away from this basket case of a motherboard once and for all

So far, so good. It has been working quite well. Was pretty easy to work with, I haven’t tried updating the BIOS or any overclocking yet. Will probably update this review later on. I am using a Ryzen 5 1600 with an Asus Strix RX 480 and 8 GBs of Ballistix ram at 2400 MHz.Update 1: I was able to update it to the latest BIOS using a flash drive, pretty easy and fast process.July 20th 2018 Update: This motherboard is still rocking well. I’ve updated the BIOS many times, and every time was very easy.

Ordered the board and I was so happy I didn’t check it. I opened it, it looked beautiful and everything and when my graphics card finally came I decided to put the computer together and turns out it was an intel socket board in a am4 tomahawk box. That is my only complaint however I sent it back, I am awaiting another shipmeant and hopefully it is the writer box and board <3

Got this for my GFs younger brother who was building his first system. I advised he cross reference everything and HE DIDN’T. So why 1 star…?Well the board ships with a BIOS that is extremely out of date and though this board claims to work with socket AM4 chips, it WILL NOT WORK with a Ryzen chip unless the bios is updated. The only way to access update to bios is to use an older chip such as type A AMD chips.Unfortunately he waited a YEAR to start the build and never advised us until it was too late. Now we’re stuck with this crap board and no option to exchange or return. By the way this board is severely discounted at Microscenter for $23 AKA it’s garbage.

Pros: Great Value, nice red trim, debug LEDs, small size, and further proof-ish.Cons: Hassle to work with 2nd gen Ryzen CPUs, Lacking fan ports, No WiFi/Bluetooth, difficulty to overclock with included BIOS/UEFI, system crashes after using Ryzen Master to OC anything. Included Wraith spire (With APU) won’t fit over one Ballistix Sport RAM module (depending how you put the cooler on.If you’re not good with troubleshooting I suggest going with a higher end board.

I used this board to upgrade my HTPC “on the cheap” to a Ryzen system. Paired with a Ryzen 3 3200G and a MSI GTX 1050ti LP card (yes, I know, but I wanted the 3200G for potential other projects down the road). I did NOT have to update the BIOS to run the 3200G. Plug and play. This is a no-frills board. It’s an A320 chipset so you’re not going to overclock. But at this level, who needs to? The BIOS is very simple and nothing to write home about, but frankly I doubt I’ll have a need to spend much time there with this machine. You’re not going to use this as the foundation of a high speed gaming rig. But it is *perfect* for a budget rig, secondary computer, or HTPC unit, which was my use case, and frankly you simply want it to work. And it does. As for features, the ports are adequate, it supports M.2, and it uses front-facing SATA ports, which come in handy in some tighter case configs. For example, I used the In-Win CE685.FH300TB3 300W MicroATX Slim Case for this build, and as tight as that case is, only these types of SATA ports would have worked. The only minor ding I’d give has been mentioned by other reviewers: lack of extra fan headers. This is an easily solved problem with a splitter or a hub, but it’s something the buyer should be aware of going into it.So I was able to put together a very capable HTPC that also functions as a half-decent living room gaming console in a pinch for very little money using this board. As I upgrade all of the machines in the house, this will also get upgraded, likely eventually getting a Ryzen 7 3700X down the road. I’m confident that it will handle it fine given I can find an appropriate cooling solution. If you’re just looking for a no-frills board that works and has some future upgrade capability, and overclocking isn’t in the cards, then this is a great solution at a very good price point.

Had this motherboard for about three months before I upgraded to an X370 board and had no major issues with it, but there are a few caveats that come with buying a budget mobo.Pros:-Looks great for the price-mATX form factor good for compact builds-BIOS is easy to use-Reinforced PCI-E x16 slot (it may be placebo, but it’s nice to have)Cons:-Only 2 SATA ports, this may be a limitation of the chipset, but I’m not 100% sure-Could not get my 3000 MHz TridentZ RGB RAM to run at advertised speed (but did get it to 2800 MHz, which I was fine with)-Lack of AIO pump header as well as true RGB lighting functionalityOther thoughts:-As with most B350 chipset boards, the overclocking left a little more to be desired, but the OC’ing was quite serviceable for the price and great for someone who isn’t going to push their system too much anyway-Slight instability; with my overclock the board did not always POST on the first try, and would sometimes reset my RAM speed to stock 2133 without it being obvious during boot.Final thoughts:Good board for entry level Ryzen users with nice visual aesthetics, but if you have an extra $50-$60 to spend on a motherboard then I would recommend buying an X370 chipset board, as you will have better overclocking results and system stability. But for the casual gamer who just wants a board that’s cheap and looks good, this motherboard is a good buy.

Great motherboard with a great price. “Why say that if you only gave it 3 stars?” you ask? Well, that’s because of how much of a disastrous pain this motherboard was to install. As I was doing research on this board, there was not a single video or article that mentioned the awful issues with crashing this board has. It took me 5 days (and $110) to figure out that in order to use your PC for more than 10 minutes, you need to install the current beta drivers for the motherboard as well as the Windows 10 Creator’s Update. Now obviously these issues are not permanent, but I felt it was important to say something so that other people don’t get as stressed as I did.Other than that one issue, this motherboard has been fantastic, nad I’d easily give it 5-stars if not for the 5 days of pain I endured while troubleshooting it.

Should have been 5 stars but the board that I received did not have the latest BIOS update so if you are planning on using an AMD Ryzen 5 2400 APU there is a chance that you will receive a motherboard with an old BIOS firmware. If that’s the case, it will not boot/POST until it is updated. I had to contact AMD to ship me a BootKit CPU so I can update my BIOS firmware. Once updated, it had no other issues. All-in-all had to wait 1.5 weeks to get my computer build up and running after I received my motherboard.

Very disappointed with this buy. This motherboard is not compatible with the Ryzen R5 series. In my case the Ryzen 1600. Apparently MSI hasn’t provided the motherboard with the appropriate drivers and software to run the R5 series CPUs. Unfortunately, this isn’t mentioned anywhere as far as I can tell. Only once I had problems and specifically googled them did I find others had this problem and MSI hasn’t seemed to have done anything about it. Very disappointing.

Quite happy with the support by MSI for their products and that model #.The audio codec still gives me issues with Windows 10, but thats a software issue with the integrated sound card. I would wish they choose a better chip for the audio that wouldn’t run in these awful issues with the audio and that it doesn’t have to be redone each time Microsoft pushes us a Windows 10 major update. Yes, i can use a 50$CAN sound card to end this discussion, but I bought a MB with an integrated audio and expect it to work without any software or hardware issues down the line.

Could use more USB ports, but that’s just because I have a lot of peripherals. Works well otherwise. Reminder: this board would need a BIOS update to support current Ryzen CPUs. Works fine out of the box with my Ryzen 1600, but would not if you had a 2600 or similar. Keep that in mind.

Computer sometimes freezes and the only way to reset it is by turning off the power directly on the power supply. When it does this, neither the reset or power button work. The good thing is that is only does it about once a month. Other issue is memory speed. Even with 3200 MHz ram, it will not allow speeds over 2400 MHz. If you can get some other motherboard.

I have usually had ASUS motherboards for all my builds, my entire life. This was the first time I switched over to MSI. The price was extremely alluring for this board upon purchase. I felt like I got a steal with this board. It’s built nice, and fits beautifully in the case. The overclocking features that come stock with the board, are easy, and straight forward. Easy for someone who hasn’t overclocked before, which is great! The board even comes with a nice little strip of LED lighting that just adds to the overall quality of this board. It looks fantastic, and runs even better! I would like to give this board a 5 star rating. Why… well..Pros:Reasonably pricedB350 boardMemory up to 32 GB (16×2)M.2 slot for again readable priced boardLED’s that can be controlled by the MSI gaming appCon’s:It’s been out for quite a few months and MSI STILL have not released a board BiOS update. Months!!!I got an R5 1400 and it works great with this board, expect one thing. Overclocking. The BiOS is bugged to when you increase the voltage, it throttles the CPU to about 1.55 GHz. I could not understand why my benchmarking scores were so low when I had upgraded from an FX 8320. There is a way to get around this, and that’s to use the Ryzen Master program. It works flawlessly, but it is annoying to go in and set the overclock each time as I forget. It would be nice to see MSI update the BiOS so I can overclock it in there and not worry about setting the overclock.Other than that, it is a nice board.

My only complaint with this board was the lack of proper labeling on which screws went where, while it’s blatantly obvious to someone who builds computers relatively consistently I could see this becoming a real chore for someone who doesn’t do it that often.

All below is for BIOS A.D0 from 07/07/2018, CPU is Ryzen 3 2200G.MB has quirky BIOS/UEFI – in multi HDDs setup, sometimes it sees HDDs, sometimes does not. Choosing boot drive is unreliable – you choose one, it boots from another. PCI-e compatibility is questionable – my WIFI card worked only in PCI-e 16x slot only and MB refuses to recognize it in any of the two PCI-e 1x slots (while that WIFI card works perfectly in PCI-e 1x slot on other MB). MB is advertised as supporting ECC ram in noECC mode, although it does not support that, tried with Kingston ECC ram. If you issue ‘reboot’ from Linux, reboot won’t go properly, MB does not properly reset PCI-e state and kernel will crush on the next boot. Fortunately ‘halt -p’ works properly. Sadly, many MBs for AMD CPUs have beta-quality BIOSes. I have another MB from another vendor and it also has it’s own set of issues.

The board worked great out of the box! Instructions were clear the only couple of issues I had were that it only has 2 fan headers and I couldn’t overclock the integrated graphics on my Ryzen 3 3200g. Granted this board has a surprisingly nice bios with the ability to overclock the CPU and Ram. Running the 3200g at 4 ghz with ram at 3000mhz (still trying to get it to 3200)! Runs super cool around 31 idle, 74ish on load!

I found out that older motherboards won’t display video without the latest BIOS update. I can’t update the firmware without video. Shipping it back after a bunch of wasted time troubleshooting. If you advertise that it’s compatible with the second generation Ryzen, it shouldn’t be qualified by what version of firmware it has. These should be shipped with the latest firmware. Time and return shipping down the drain.

Other than the fact that it was awkward to put my Ryzen 5 1600 in because of the different placing (the manual did not give a guide how to install this particular CPU), it does what it needs to and works well with my gaming rig.

after update bios to latest version, tried to use XMP in bios to set the memory speed with crosair 3200.even i checked the motherboard memory compatible list before chose crosair memory, still cannot get 3200MHz.only can get to 3066MHz to work.and sometimes boot failed, reset back to 2133MHz. have to enter bios and set memory speed again.good thing for now is i dont need to clear CMOS with a jumper once.if system cannot boot, it will try 5 times, then go back to default bios settings and boot.

I was worried that this Motherboard will not work with Ryzen 3 3200G .. but it worked right out of the box. No bios update was needed. I check MSI website and it has the latest firmware installed as of 3/1/2020. This motherboard is for a budget build. There is only one case fan header.

This is a great motherboard! But if you want your onboard audio to have good quality I would recommend another motherboard or usb audio device.

A really good motherboard for the Ryzen CPU if you plan to overclock… once you get a bios that runs 3200 memory.

This was my first time building a computer. Everything was easy to assemble. The bios was easy to work through and I was able to overclock easily. The only problem I had is that there is no wifi/Bluetooth support.

At first, it won’t booth after installing all components. I have to find a resolution on youtube how to fix it. Fortunately, a guy posted a resolution which is to hold the power button while restarting. Few months later, USB ports wont work. I have to restart to have it working again. All drivers are up to date, btw. It also wont recognize my 3000Mhz Ram, running only at 2133Mhz. Very frustrating. I should have bought an Asus mobo instead.

First issue, seal on static bag was broken. Then discovered the package of SATA cables had been ripped open. Upon install, I found out both of the heatsink mounting brackets were on the board backwards, so I had remove them and reattach correctly. To top it off, the M.2 mounting screw is also missing, which will be another issue if I ever decide to add one. This condition should NOT be sold as new….

I was looking forward to using this motherboard to upgrade my PC. First of all, I got a faulty product of the B350 PC Mate, which I did not know from the start. The second issue I had with the motherboard is that I could not get any internet connection although I plugged in my ethernet cable. Something you should keep in mind is that plugging in the USB 3.0 cord is a challenge. It should be able to plug into the motherboard easily, but I had a very hard time doing so. If you are not careful enough, then you’re most likely going to end up bending or breaking one of the pins. The only nice thing I have to say about the motherboard is that it was cheap, black colored, and a little RGB line on the side of the motherboard. Do not buy this motherboard if you’re short on time because it’s going to be a waste of money if you get a faulty motherboard like mine. I would rather pay $20 extra dollars to get another motherboard that will be more worth it in the end.

Is advertised to work with 2nd generation Ryzen CPU’s but doesn’t really out of the box. Now I have to get a boot kid from AMD in order to actually update the bios for this motherboard so I can use the processor I ordered to go with it. One star because it turned on, but only one star because I now have to wait extra weeks in order to get this boot kit and have to go through the trouble of getting it shipped to Germany since I live overseas.

RYZEN USERS PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW PLEASE. IT COULD SAVE A LOT OF YOUR TIME.JUST ONLY ONE FREAKING ESSENTIAL THING: UPGRADE THE NEWEST BIOS FROM THE MSI WEBSITE.I was really crazy because of the poor performance of my pc. How the hell my GTX 1080 just can only run CSGO with 80 fps??? 70 fps in Battlefield 1 and 70 fps in League of Legends. After upgrading my BIOS to the newest version (7A34.H70 for Artic version. I thought it was just the white painted of the Tomahawk original version, but it uses different BIOS version), there is no freaking issue anymore. I feel like my motherboard hold my processor Ryzen power, so that it can not handle my GTX 1080. I spent days to solve this damn trouble (Reinstalling drivers stuff). Hope this will help you. I bought this in a bundle with a Ryzen 5 and I start to install it only to realize it only has 4 sata ports. Why? Nearly everyone building a PC will have a DVD/Bluray drive, a SSD, and at least 1 HDD. I have 3 HDD’s (hardly an uncommon scenario) which means I have to either return it and lose the discount from the bundle or buy an expansion card.

Denys Fedoryshchenko –
After installing Ryzen it worked flawlessly, yes it takes a bit time to boot, but it is insignificant, if i compare with latest intels with their crappy ME init time. And as people report in beta time is a bit less, i hope they will reach better results.Memory OC worked fine as expected (but it didn’t go further than XMP profile), despite numerous complaints. If someone interested, he can find on forums beta bios versions to try.I was thinking to put 4 stars, but i loved quality of device and how easy was to fit cooler (MSI too), and, well, it does job enough well for comfortable work.

Klare 5 Sterne!

It’s a good motherboard.-Pros–Good looking-Many fan headers-Easy to navigate BIOS-Well cooled heatsinks-I/O cover-Cons–Not updated for Ryzen APUs (had to update mine w/ a boot kit from AMD to use R5 2400g)-A little bit pricey-Not the greatest OCs

This motherboard has ports for basically everything you want to plug into it. It has a red led light going through it that makes it look really cool when it is dark in my room. It also has red tones to it just in case you guys are looking into building a PC with this color scheme.
Cynthia –
The strong point is the price, it’s a cheap mobo with nice features as 7.1+2 audio channels and 4 USB 3.0. The weakness is memory support, despite of being in QVL I got a lot of troubles trying to set up my RAM. And that goes beyond AMD Ryzen memory issues, here we have poor or under tested BIOS updates, faulty applications like MSI Command center that doesn’t work correctly. It’s a mobo with a lot of potencial that keeps short because MSI support.

This is a great motherboard within the $100-ish range. The bios, although not perfect, is easy to navigate once you get to know it. The built in over clock mode which adds .5ghz to your CPU speed is a good start to anyone wanting to dabble in overclocking. However you might want to put the core voltage below what it automatically sets it to. I have a 1700 which is recommended to not go about 1.4 volts and the built-in overclock put it at 1.44 volts. Although not the biggest issue it can drastically reduce the lifespan of your CPU. The boot priority options are a little weird, i couldn’t find the drive i normally boot from unless i went to the boot override option. Besides the flawed BIOS, the board itself looks pretty good. I love the red/black color scheme and it looks really good when paired with some red led fans. The rear I/O although not amazing is somewhat decent. 3 USB 3s and 3 USB 2s isnt the greatest but if your monitor has a USB pass-through and your case a few USB ports on it you should be fine. The USB type C is a nice touch but I don’t know how often I will be using it unless i get a new phone. Overall on the somewhat cheaper side of gaming motherboards this is a solid choice for anyone on a mid range budget. Get yourself a good single card like a 1070/1080 to pair with this and you will have a good rig to last you at least 5 or so years.

The board worked well with an R7, but needed a bios update to work with an R5. The only way we could update the bios, aside from sending the board back, was to borrow an R7, boot up with the R7, update the bios, and then swap out the CPU to an R5. It was a bit of a pain, but the board now works fine. I bought the board in March, so hopefully anyone buying the board now will have the BIOS update on it that supports the R5.

Bought the a320 pro max. Stopped working within a few hours of use. Display wouldn’t turn on, no power getting supplied to keyboard or mouse. Only cpu fan was spinning.Tried replacing ram and psu to see if that was the problem and finally took the motherboard to a msi service center. It is just a collection point and the staff are least bothered about the customer. They had it for two weeks and finally I got a “ready to pick up” status. Collection centre has no idea what the issue was or if it was resolved as they have no means to check. After their “service”, now nothing works. Even the cpu fan doesn’t turn on now. I have no idea what they did, anyway it looks like my money has gone down the drain. Buy something else

Just finished a budget Ryzen 5 build with this motherboard and works great- listed my specs below.Initially setting this up was not too difficult, however booting up is where i encounter slight issues. Unbeknownst to me this had NO on-board graphics installed, so when trying to hook up my DVI to my monitor to mobo to access the BIOS – errors.**HOWEVER**you must have already plug a graphics card into the PCI slot then hook it up, and works perfectly.First thing I did was flash the mobo chipset to the newest update version: 7A39v25 (because of online reviews suggesting poor/buggy performance when it comes to memory) and I’d advise you do the same, everything is listed on the MSI’s mobo website (use the american one) and pretty self explanatory.Pros:- Comes with two SATA cables, (has 4 sata ports)- Stickers to label your wires- Love the LED on mobo, lights up when its on- Can overclock! (but don’t recommend – given MSI reputation lol)Cons:- Feels somewhat brittle (i guess thats what you get for the price)- Case fan cooler power connects are positioned weirdly, have to extend my PSU cables in a odd arrangement around my GPU – looks messy but it works.Overall very pleased, this is a great motherboard if your on a budget, keep in mind there are only 2 ram slots (max 32 gb) if you’re looking for more try the tomhawk version.– SPECS –CPU: Ryzen 5 1500XRAM: Crucial Sport LT 8GB Single DDR4 2400GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB GDDR5HDD: 1TB WDB 7200RPMPSU: EVGA 430WWireless Adapter: 600Mbps Dual Band 5Ghz / 2.4Ghz Long Range USBOS: WIndows 10 Pro

Really good B350 board, and an excellent motherboard for the money. Works without any issues and does everything I need it to do. Layout is nice and simple, and has a decent vrm, arguably the second best on all B350 boards. The mosfets are relatively efficient and it’s a good all around 4 phase, much better than the 4 phase on gigabyte’s b350 boards, and much better than the 3 phase on ASRock’s boards.
