Killer budget CPU
Pros: Hyperthreading, 2 physical cores/4 logic3.3 GHzHighly popular 1155 socketCan handle any modern game at high detail/reseloutionLow power consumptionPriceCons: Limited cacheDual core (see other thoughts)Does not enable PCI express 3.0Other Thoughts: Though this CPU is an Ivy Bridge, it will not enable the full bandwidth of PCI express 3.0. This is only slightly minor considering the performance. The hyperthreading allows this CPU to operate as a quad core, yet is cheaper. Temps on idle with a Corsair A70 heatsink is 25 Celsius and 43 Celsius maximum with heavy gaming. Games such as Crysis 2 and Metro 2033 can run at Ultra settings, but with minor performance lag/slowing due to bandwidth limitation. I will soon upgrade to the i7 3770K and use the i3 3220 in a HTPC.My System (as of 4/14/2013):Intel i3-3220Corsair A70 heatsink, w/ 2 Xigmatek crystal series red LED 120mm fanCorsair XMS3 16 GB DDR3 1333 RAMSamsung 840 Pro 256 GB SSD (Boot)Samsung 840 Pro 128 gb SSD (storage)ASUS P8Z77-V LK motherboardCorsair AX760 Platinum PSU2 ASUS GTX 660 video cards in SLIASUS PCE A66 wireless network cardASUS DVD drive (optical)Rosewill Blackhawk Ultra case w/ six Xigmatek crystal series red LED 120mm/140mm fans and custom side window

For the price range, you can’t go wrong. I’ve paired this with a 7870 and everything run’s fantastic, sadly most games aren’t heavily threaded so they don’t take advantage of multiple cores which is why i opted for the dual core with 4 threads. I’m expecting a performance hit when I’m going to play planetside 2 and BF3 multiplayer as these can use all the resources of a quad core. Overall, it’s an awesome buy.

Best budget gaming CPU
Ive been using this for playing games like bf3 and planetside 2 getting 60+ fps on high-ultra settings and Ive never had any problems with it and ive had for about 4 months now. It ran the battlefield 4 beta with no ploblems. If all your wanting to do is play games or anything less then that, this is all you will need for a while.I plan on buying more.

Great Processor!
This is a great processor, I recommend it for cheap builds, and or non heavy gaming computers. The processor is great for your every day, business, and casual needs. If you are looking to edit/game i would go with a i5 or up. But over all, great deal!

Good CPU, But only Dual-Core
This is a great budget CPU.LGA-1155 socket. My only problem is that it is a dual core processor…..If you are new to the gaming PC (Like myself) don’t go cheap like I did….Get the i5-K Series. That has quad core, and is over-clockable.I rate it 5 stars.Me being cheap doesn’t merit a 4 star rating. This CPU works perfect right out of the box.Comes with a stock CPU cooler fan.Hooks into MoBo really easy.CPU fan comes with Thermal Paste pre-applied.(Also, outperforms the best CPU paste on the market…Intel must not be cheap like me)5/5

Great
Just purchased this for a cheap samba file server, works perfect. Way faster than the core 2 duo that it replaced and very low power consumption. I would say I am very satisfied, of course the stock hs/fan could be better and I HATE the pins being on the mobo. Otherwise, perfect.
Paul Howarth –
I bought this to go with an Asus P8H61-MX USB3 motherboard as a replacement for a dead ABit AN8-32X motherboard on my children’s computer (one of my old cast-offs), and coupled it with 8 GB of Crucial DDR3 PC3-12800 RAM (2x 4 GB sticks). Putting that in the carcass of the dead machine (which was running Fedora Linux) resurrected it and resulted in a very respectable machine for an upgrade cost of under £200. Needless to say I was very happy with the result and it runs faster than I’d expected (my usual machine is an i7). My son no longer pesters me to use my machine because his own is too slow.

I needed to refresh my PC, an older Q8400 that had been well-worked and was starting to have… issues. My budget couldn’t stretch to an i7 or an i5 and a decent motherboard and RAM, so I researched and decided that, at least in the Mid-term, this would be more than acceptable, and boy was I right. It handles everything I throw at it, and if worst comes to worst and my needs get more demanding, I’ve got upgrade options.

great cpu
This cpu is great for the price. I’ve read that it outperforms amd fx quad cores that run at 4.2ghz. I was building a $700 budget pc that i wanted to be able to play games with and upgrade down the road. So i went with this over an amd because the performance is better at the price point, and it is the lga 1155 socket which means i can grab an i5 or i7 whenever i want and drop it in my system. Also, this is an ivy bridge chip for about $5 more than an i3 2120. All in all i’m very happy with my purchase. Oh and i almost forgot, temperatures. My case is the haf 912 with a 200mm intake and a 120mm and 200mm exhaust. This cpu idles at 34 celcius on the STOCK cooler, and it reaches about 44 celcius when i play games, again i do have very good airflow in my case. However, if your looking at the $100 to $130 price range for a cpu, get this and you will not regret it.

Great processor low price
I bought this to upgrade my daughter’s old core 2 duo computer. This thing has no problem pushing a geforce gtx580. She mainly uses her computer to watch YouTube videos, plays Star Wars Galaxies and miscellaneous browser based games. She edits videos and movies (with windows movie maker) with ease. She also does Microsoft PowerPoint for school…thus is a top notch processes that more than fulfills the above needs.

Perfect for Gaming PCs
Used this in my $600 build with a Sapphire Radeon 7850 and 8gb of RAM and an ASUS H61 micro ATI MB. Get 80+ FPS on League of Legends with Max settings. Plays Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite at 45-55 FPS High Settings. No issues to speak of. I would however go with the i5 if you are doing editting or higher CPU demanding tasks. I dont so I didn’t.

Awesome for a budget gaming machine
If you’re a gamer it’s a great processor for the price. No need to jump to an I5 to play the top of the line games, this does the trick. Also, check out “Hyperformance” and how you can use the GPU with modern video cards to increase performance. This does require a motherboard that supports it but is great for most games (not all).

The baby of the 3rd generation Rocks!
I have been building a gaming rig and choose this processor as a start. What is excellent about this processor is the power comsumption and the hyper threading feature.PROS:- The hyper threading feature allows you simulate two more cores at fast speeds, is being recognized for some programs as a 4 core cpu.. The 3.3 ghz on this baby make it very fast!!- The temperature is not high at all but I have it with an aftermarket NZXT respire T20 and it idles at 28-31 C and while gaming it reaches 48C as a maximun that I have recorded. (Awesome) The stock fan was at 31-33C in idle and reached 54C while gaming. So you can compare.- It does not bottleneck my AMD Radeon XFX 7850, I have played games like Hitman absolution, Dishonored, Torchlight 2, COD black OPS 1 and 2, Dirt 3, Mass effect 3, all of them at the highest settings without lag.- If you do not have a dedicated video card, the Intel Hd graphics 2500 perform very good. I was able to play movies at 1080p and to stream them to my PS3 using the PS3 media server, and all the movies played fine.- The integrated 2500 graphics are for casual gaming, but I played before DMC 4, dishonored, dirt 2 and medium to high settings but in 1280×600. You need to tweak a little bit the settings.- Excellent processor for multitasking and daily basis computer programs.- It scores 7.2 in windows experience in Windows 7 ultimate.CONS:- Not a good processor if your stuff is video editing. Although this processor is good and fast at it, you might need an i5 or i7.- It might give you lag while playing Battlefield 3 multiplayer, since that game is very processor demanding. But the single player story runs fine.I highly recommend this processor for anyone building a gaming rig and for daily basis tasks.

Got this for my first ever gaming pc build, and the thing handles everything I chuck at it just fine. Guild Wars 2, Deus Ex, Bioshock Infinite, Team Fortress 2; I can play all of these maxed out, this really is all you need. If I had the extra money I would have reached for the i5 3570k not only offers great performance but also the overclocking function. However for now I am perfectly happy with this cpu, great performance and great temps for a casual gamer like myself.

Great Processor, Poor fan
The Processor has been installed for around a month now and has been running great. Solid upgrade from my old 3.0Ghz Athlon x2. My only complaint is that the fan is noticeably loud. I’ve checked the install multiple times and it seems to be set in there solidly. But the entire thing is plastic which is probably part of the problem combined with the non screw in mounting. I will probably get an aftermarket fan at some point. Only reason this isn’t 5 stars. I miss my whisper quiet AMD fan.

This is all you need for a casual gaming rig
I never realized how unimportant cpu power is for gaming until I popped in an ivy bridge i3 into my gaming build. Borderlands 2, while not the most cpu intensive game, handled brilliantly on max settings with a gtx 550 ti, minus physX, of course. Gamers will be much happier putting the money from an i7 into a better graphics.
Rapscallion –
Bought this as part of a kit for my parents’ new computer. The i3 is a powerful processor and perfect for home use. If you’re into gaming then upgrading to an i5 is recommended (i7 if you have the cash and want to squeeze more performance), but for everyday use you cannot beat the value of this chip. Also it comes with its own heatsink and fan, with thermal paste applied.

It is quite fast and runs cool, of course.
It is very fast for a dual core, and it ran on the first post with no problems. The snap in process of the heat sink was kind of annoying. It took 10 to 15 minutes to get two of the locks to snap in. I am familiar with these Intel heat sinks, but they just did not want to cooperate. It took a great amount of force for them to finally stay in (yes they were unlocked). I was actually concerned about having physically damaged the processor but thankfully it’s ok.I got used to using quadcores, the last was a q9550, and it was definitely a stronger performer than this new dual core. It depends on what someone does, for gaming or video editing I would definitely recommend more cores. Or just expect it will be slower. Some claim dual cores are better for gaming, but that’s just something a person just tells themselves (and their online friends) when they buy a dual core. It will do the job for now. It is still an Intel and have a great amount of respect for their products, but plan to upgrade in a few months.

I was looking for a low power CPU and that’s what I got it the amd are pretty attractive on terms of speed but they are much more watts than this one.. my previous core2 cpu was heating up.. this one is much faster and it does make any differences in terms of heat. It has hyper threading so you can see 4 cpu to buy an i5 i think is wasting of money.

I bought this CPU for my first build ever and man does it do work. When coupled with my HD 7850 graphics card I could run games like never before on higher settings and with smoother frame-rates. I am very happy with it because it was so much better than what I had before in my old desktop. Great for Budget Build!
Intel has ALWAYS been my brand of choice for processor, hands down. This processor continues the reliability and power that all processors from Intel boast. I almost went for the i5, but didn’t need a quad core processor. However, I felt a little regret with not spending $90 more to get it, but after installing this i3 into my desktop build, I am happy to have saved the money because the dual-core i3 does everything I want and more.

It is Intel, what else would you expect.
The responsiveness you get with Intel is awesome. I can say that first hand as I have built AMD machines and there is noticeable difference. If you are just doing the daily grind of watching videos, internet browsing, checking email, using office applications this is all you will need. You need to move up to i5 or i7 if you are into gaming or photo and video editing.

I bought this CPU for a very basic gaming and multi media computer and it out performs my expectations and even though it might not meet the recommended system requirements of some games, this CPU handles games such as team fortress 2 and warframe to name a few with great ease. The CPU arrived early and on time with the time slot that I was allocated so for this I would give a 10/10.

Excellent performance, for the price.
Bought this CPU for a (mostly) media server and HTPC roll. Has been a spectacular performer in all regards. On the rare occasion that I ask it to perform CPU-centric processes, such as decompressing a 10GB movie file from .rar format, it is very slow, but I knew what I was buying when I bought it. It runs Windows Server 2012 R2 like a champ. It handles my 16GB RAM and 17+ TB of HDD space, no problem. Even plays my older video games without a single snag (Civilizations 5, with a modest video card). I’m not a gamer, so I would not expect it, nor even ask of it, to play any modern video games. In all, this CPU is a workhorse. Don’t buy it to play intensive video games, don’t buy it to render video or audio, and don’t buy it if you run a lot of CPU-intensive processes. Buy this CPU if you perform basic functions, such as watching video, or creating/modifying documents within a productivity suite, including e-mail, etc. If you want basic I/O but need more than a Celeron (note: Celerons only belong in PC’s which have little-to-no human interaction), this is the best and cheapest CPU you can buy.

Just purchased this for a cheap samba file server, works perfect. Way faster than the core 2 duo that it replaced and very low power consumption. I would say I am very satisfied, of course the stock hs/fan could be better and I HATE the pins being on the mobo. Otherwise, perfect.

The best budget CPU on the market? This is a perfect bit of kit for someone looking to game on a moderate level, there are some games that are taking advantage of the 4 cores the i5’s have to offer such as BF3 but most still looking at duel cores really. This cpu, for the price, gives a good ‘bang for buck’ it is fast, stays cool and is cheap.I am running:i3-3220 3.3Ghz w/ stock cooler4GB Corsair RAMGigabyte HD 7770 1GBMSI motherboard500GB Seagate430w corsair cx430.All wrapped in a Fractal design core 1000.Cheep system all in all about £360, and I have had far cry 3 running on ultimate at about 50FPS, minecraft with highest setting about 70-100FPS. So this is what you are looking at from this cpu in a budget build it is a very nice bit of kit and worth the price most defiantly. Sorry I can not provide any other benchmarks for more popular games, haven’t played any others yet.If you are looking to pick this one up I suggest it highly, out performs my friends £700 pre-built system he got about 1 year ago, but that’s because it is pre-built and you always get ripped off, haha!

cpu with onboard graphics is pretty nice. i wanted to get an i5 3470 but i don’t need it and the money i saved buying this allowed me to buy an ssd. the hd 2500 graphics are ok. i mostly play world of warcraft on my machine and i plan on buying a dedicated gpu later on. this runs wow on fair with no lag in 25 man raids which is perfect for me right now. definately recomend this product. also this one is 22nm so i can use my memory at 1600 which is good. buy it.

i3 cool
I USED THIS FOR A HTPC BUILD MORE THAN ENOUGH FOR THAT PURPOSE, WITH STAND ALONE VIDEO CARD.I DID NOT GIVE IT A 5 STAR BECAUSE I HAVE SYSTEM WITH AN I5 3570K. THAT BEING SAID I DO HAVE TO ADMIT IT IS QUITE FAST FOR DESKTOP STUFF VERY IMPRESSED. Sorry about the cap lock to lazy.Just wanted to add for the Die hard AMD fans I do like AMD products and all my video cards (5 builds) all have Amd video cards But, intel cores are equal to 1.5+ cores of Amd. family fight my I5 4 core only 2% less than my Brother in-laws AMD 8350 8 core yes less money but also less efficent cores.Tried AMD A10 6800k With fm2 board Returned for I3 thats all I have to say about that.

All most will need
I picked up the 3220 to replace a G630 in a recent build nothing wrong with the Pentium chip just that the 3220 is so much better at all task. IMO unless your into maxed out gaming quad cores are a waste of money for home use. I coupled the 3220 with a mid range video card and 4gb of memory couldn’t be happier with the results with those components bought at sales I’m under the cost of a single good quality quad. The 2500 IG on the 3220 has gotten decent reviews so for high def. playback a video card is not needed. I use an external 3.0 USB HD, performance was not a step up but a leap forward with the 3220 compared to the 630. To top it off it uses ten watts less than the 630, a good value for a work horse of a processor.cons: The miserable excuse for a cooler Intel provides. I replaced it with an inexpensive 92mm aluminum after market unit it runs quiet and keeps the chip cool.

The Intel Core i3 offers the best balance between power consumption and performance. The power consumption is low, as is the TDP meaning it runs very cool, but hyperthreading allows it to handle four threads of compute instructions, making it almost as good as a quad core processor. This is an excellent cpu for the work pc that might get used for occasional gaming. Obviously for high end gaming, you would go for an Intel i5 or i7, or an AMD equivalent like the FX 6300.

Great starter CPU. Good for entry level gaming, home and office applications. Affordable, and yet performs. It’s a dual core that has 2 virtual cores, so it acts like a quad. Overall, though, if you’re looking for reliability, Intel has always been at the top of the industry.

I’m running Windows 7 Pro machine with this CPU, Geforce GTX 560, 4 GB of ram, and SSD. While some may consider this barebones, it zips through casual gaming (Rogue Legacy, Dirt 3) just fine without overheating. Great bang for buck.

I use this processor on my media box in my living room every day. I upgraded from a dual core 65w AMD processor that worked great, but paled in comparison to the performance this processor gave me. nice budget gaming CPU
Built a budget rig today, this with an 7850, 8 gig of memory and 120G SSD pretty much handles everything I can throw at it.If you are building a game rig and really on a budget I recommend getting this instead of an i5 and put the extra 100$ in a better video card, which makes all the differences in terms of gaming. This won’t be a bottleneck for most of the games. However if you’re doing a lot of cpu-intense tasks like video capturing/editing a better cpu does make the difference. But as I said before, for gaming, this little cpu is a solid performer and a better video card is way more important.

It is still an Intel and have a great amount of respect for their products, but plan to upgrade in a few months.

Impressive for a duel core
It’s a sturdy processor with some power. This is a processor that has 2 faces. If your looking to save a couple bucks but still get some power get this processor. If your looking to use it for gaming and can afford a higher end quad core or higher go with that. The reason I’m saying that isn’t because this CPU can’t handle gaming because it can. I’m saying that because the next generation of games will require better processors. Graphics these days are very impressive however games are turn toward improved immersion which includes voxels and those require more cpu power not textures and more detailed surface modeling. The computer I builts specs will be included at the end. Some of the games I’ve played on it are Eve Online (Max settings), Titanfall (High settings), Space Engineers (Max), Skyrim (Maxed with enhanced graphic and immersion mods), Watch_Dogs (Medium textures, Maxed shadows and lighting).System Specs,Thermaltake Chaser A71 No Power Supply Full Tower Case VP400M1W2NGigabyte Intel Z77 LGA 1155 Dual UEFI BIOS ATX Motherboard GA-Z77-DS3HPNY XLR8 SATA 120GB 6Gbps 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SSD9SC120GMDF-RBCorsair CX Series 750 Watt ATX/EPS Modular 80 PLUS Bronze8 GB DDR3 corsair venganceCorsair Vengeance Blue 8 GB (2X4 GB) PC3-12800 1600mHz DDR3 240-Pin SDRAM Dual ChannelWindows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit, System Builder OEM DVD 1 PackEVGA GeForce GTX 660 SUPERCLOCKED 2048MB GDDR5 DVI HDMI DP Graphics Card 02G-P4-2662-KRBenQ Gaming Monitor RL2455HM (24-Inch LED)Cost approx $750 for the machine without OS or Monitor. Also if you can afford to build your computer do it. You’ll learn a lot about them AND save some bucks down the road since you can upgrade it yourself with the parts you want instead of replacing an old outdated name brand computer. For instance all I would need for Max graphics in Watch_Dogs is a graphics card with 3GB GDDR 5 (those are exspensive btw and the game looks amazing without it). Or if I find a game that requires more CPU power then I can upgrade the Motherboard and Processor or just the processor as long as it’s compatible with my current motherboard.

Finally upgraded my old Pentium 4?? home built PC to something a little more current without breaking the bank. I settled for this after looking at some reviews online for budget gaming CPUs. This fit the bill perfectly. Now, my son can play his minecraft and world of warcraft games on the PC without being bogged down by the old equipment that I had.

Affordable upgrade!
The onboard graphics work just fine but we’re still going to put a dedicated video card down the road when the funds catch up to the need.

A great CPU with plenty of processing power for the everyday user. Comes at a great price and has no problems dealing with photo editing, streaming movies and playing games.NOTE: If your thinking of getting a CPU for basic use then dont go lower than this as anything older will simply become redundant as technology is evolving rapidly. This is the new gen at a good price

Excellent CPU
I was looking for a low power CPU and that’s what I got it the amd are pretty attractive on terms of speed but they are much more watts than this one.. my previous core2 cpu was heating up.. this one is much faster and it does make any differences in terms of heat. It has hyper threading so you can see 4 cpu to buy an i5 i think is wasting of money.

The CPU in question is no gamers delight. Then again,on the other hand it’s no slouch either for most tasks.I would recommend it.

great cpu for money
cpu with onboard graphics is pretty nice. i wanted to get an i5 3470 but i don’t need it and the money i saved buying this allowed me to buy an ssd. the hd 2500 graphics are ok. i mostly play world of warcraft on my machine and i plan on buying a dedicated gpu later on. this runs wow on fair with no lag in 25 man raids which is perfect for me right now. definately recomend this product. also this one is 22nm so i can use my memory at 1600 which is good. buy it.

Cheap and low power, yet it packs a punch! The perfect CPU for a budget SFF build? This is(was) it! Haswell is obviously the one to get now, but if you can pick up a second hand one for 50 quid, go for it! I used this for gaming with a 7850 and it coped 100%. Recently upgraded to a i5 and 760 because I’m doing music production and needed extra horsepower.

Works.
It does what it does, but it does feel a little outdated. Combo’ed w/ my 7850, it runs most games on mid to high settings.

Great Processor for money, but noisy fan.
This processor is a very nice one. Being a i3, 3.3Ghz, it will work fine. The fan is noticeably loud. I think it’s just a cheap fan.

I love it
I’m buy this product for my media center, works 100%, I don’t have any problems, gaming is perfect, good temperatures, and many things that you can imagine, media center, work perfect for that 100%. Recommended for install XBMC.

Fantastic and inexpensive.
I use this processor on my media box in my living room every day. I upgraded from a dual core 65w AMD processor that worked great, but paled in comparison to the performance this processor gave me. I would recommend this to anyone who looks to use this for light gaming AND or for a 1080p capable HTPC. Its low power and puts out great performance for your buck.

Good performance for the price
This processor is not replacement of the i5 or the i7, but for the price its very powerful. It doesn’t have any overclocking potential but it’s not needed. This CPU is also great for gaming, in respect of its price, it has a lot of power. If you’re looking for a budget CPU that can still dish out serious prower, this is the card to get. If you don’t have dedicated graphics and aren’t planning on getting a graphics card, you might want to consider the HD 4000 version of this CPU.

Not bad for an i3
Works incredibly and the windows rating came up surprisingly high.Good for low budget, and it actually plays games quite well.
Manwithaplan –
The Intel Core i3 offers the best balance between power consumption and performance. The power consumption is low, as is the TDP meaning it runs very cool, but hyperthreading allows it to handle four threads of compute instructions, making it almost as good as a quad core processor. This is an excellent cpu for the work pc that might get used for occasional gaming. Obviously for high end gaming, you would go for an Intel i5 or i7, or an AMD equivalent like the FX 6300.

As the title of review states, this is a great processor. Does anything I throw at it including games, which some people think that the i3 cant do. But actually its the opposite it can run high end games and the like.Overall I would recommend it to anyone who wishes to have fast computer but doesn’t want to invest in an i5 due to price.

VERY FAST! More than enough for most people.
BLAZING FAST, everything i need to play games on my computer. Set up is instant with my motherboard MSI B-75. Playing Skyrim and WoW at amazing FPS with the Radeon 7770hd <–out of date but i’m still pushing 180fps on wow and over 100 on Skyrim.

beast Cpu!
i gotta say im really happy with this Cpu ! windows sees this as a Quad core ! Hyper threading ! it is locked .. so you cant overclock it i think. but idc really. really fast processor. i used to have a intel pentium Cpu. and that was slow. now everything runs fast with this Cpu. !

Consigliato.

If you have a budget get it NOW!!!
So I was looking for a budget processor for a gaming rig and i gotta say this thing rocks. Some people say this bottlenecks that is false. It might bottleneck a tiny bit but i have Powercolor radeon AX7870 and I can run everything i want on ultra including Battlefield 4 and 3 obviously. I completely recommend it.

Great processor for any budget computer build.
Stock fan is extremely quiet. The processing power on this is incredible and the integrated graphics are perfect for low end games such as minecraft, cod, ect.

Best bang for the buck from Intel
Hoping it is good as the MSI motherboard I bought for it is D.O.A. Have had good luck with i3-3225 and expect this one to be just as good for non gaming use.
