Great item, great price

arrived defective, fan was making noise
Ms. Rocki & Fam. –
Steady power and quiet. I’m very pleased. This helped me get my 2 year old PC back on a steady pace when the old power supply started to be unreliable. Low noise. Sufficient power for every day use.
Andretti, M –
awesome quality and performance
Yuris Revenge –
As expected of Corsair, the design and the choice of the materials and components is indeed outstanding. It is currently feeding my newly built bare bone computer and it is running finely. Is a bargain for such price.
David J Jacobe –
I have never experienced a poor product by Corsair, and I have used them for several years. Unfortunately, in this case, the unit came damaged (the bent-in corner of the shipping box should have tipped me off). The PSU came with a significant dent in one side. It would probably still have functioned, but I did not really want to try it out. Corsair sent me an RMA without hassle. Would certainly consider buying Corsair again.
fubely –
Using in a build for with an AMD FX-8350, Titan Black, and 12 GBs of RAM. Has given me no issues, even with the Titan Black specifically stating it should have a minimum of 600w power supply. Nothing appears to throttle.
Alvin David Fogle II –
Excellent, fits well.

If you own a Dell.and its over 5 years-old. Do yourself a favor and buy one of these corsair 500’s. It Is a Great-Power supply and probably 10 times better than the 1 in your Dell or any other name brand PC’s now . I purchased for my mother’s XPS 8100 which had a 350 power supply which was weak at best after 7 years . Very easy to install

I’ve built computers for 20+ years and fixed the for longer than that. It used to be the case that most power supplies were a bit dodgy and destined to fail, but nowadays most get the basics right. This is no exception. I’ve used most of Corsair’s lines of PSUs, and this is the first time going down to the value end of the spectrum, and they don’t disappoint. It lacks some of the refined components and design features of some of Corsairs premium and performance oriented parts, but that’s not to say it’s inadequate for any mainstream use. It has offered reliable clean power to one of my Skylake i5 systems and a 1070gpu. Where other options have a fully modular setup, this doesn’t. The case is basic stamped steel, and the lack of hype about the capacitors means they likely aren’t from top shelf manufacturers. Where others have headroom for overclocking, this may or may not, as I wouldn’t try it myself (I’m not too inclined to run this on my Broadwell-E setup with a 600mhz OC, but YMMV). What it does offer is the aforementioned base capabilities, reliable use, compatibility with modern CPU platforms, and Corsair’s growing reputation. I’ve never been let down by them before, and I don’t anticipate this now. While this is a “Vine Customer Review of Free Product”, I’d never put any PSU I didn’t have faith in into my system (a bad PSU can damage components and create painful troubleshooting scenarios). I fully trust the PSU for everyday computing (upgrade if you want to overclock).

I bought this to replace a much more expensive PSU that for some reason stopped working and this thing putting in work with no problems so far. I thought the price was very reasonable and so far this product has been reliable while my other PSU is being worked on.
Sheephead Slayer –
Nice supply, EXCEPT, it does not have a 4 Pin ATX 12 volt cord (seperate from the 24 pin main cord) for some older motherboards!!! Be aware that you will either need some kind of adapter, or “customize” it and void the warranty!
Cory W –
Loved the dual molex, if I were to have one complaint, is that the SATA power connectors are all very hard to put into place if the HDD lays completely flat, otherwise, i find the power supply fantastic and I am glad that I ordered it!
Ananias –
Great power supply
Lund Wolfe –
The Ultra power supply on a friend’s PC died, and I needed an inexpensive but quality power supply to replace it. This bottom of the line Corsair power supply did the trick. It’s very quiet. It is backward compatible with older mother boards, so you can just buy the newer power supplies. The 24 pin power connector breaks away to a 20 pin, and the 8 pin power connector breaks away to a 4 pin. There are only two 4 pin peripheral connectors if you have older IDE drives and one floppy connector. They are also too close together, so I had to readjust the drives in the drive bay to use those connectors. That is the only issue I had.

My old Power Supply crapped out in my computer. It was probably 10-12 years that I had it, and who knows how old it was before my grandpa gave it to me… I got online and scowered the interwebs for a new PSU and eventually landed on this one. It was a good price and had good reviews. It arrived and when I opened the box I swear I heard a choir of angels… This PSU is clean, looks quality, is quiet. It is a great buy and works perfect for my comp. Definitely recommend.

I run an IT company and 15 years ago we used to have tons of issues with the custom PCs we built. Finally we realized that a lot of the issues were just a high failure rate of power supplies. We would buy cases that came bundled with power supplies and these were failing quite a bit and causing other issues. To keep our margins it was hard to splurge on high end power supplies but over the years prices on high end power supplies have dropped to where you can use a power supply like this one from Corsair. While this power supply came as a review unit, my purchase history can show that I have purchased 100s of Corsair power supplies over the last few years. Our issues have reduced dramatically and our custom built PCs are much more stable. I used this unit in an HTPC and it has performed around the clock for months now. Corsair power supplies are solid, give the power output advertised and have reasonable price points. Can’t go wrong with Corsair.

Performs as expected. Cool, quiet power. Easy installation, and looks good every time I open the cabinet. Mine has been running for nearly two months and hasn’t hiccupped. A good product at a fair price.

This power supply is good for a full size AT case. It is quiet. A complaint is that the breakout wiring harness is very heavy gauge and stiff. The multiple SATA portion did not fit several drives without bulging out of the case.

I am building a new computer currently and this power supply became available, so I thought I could use it. However, for my application, it only has one PCIe cable and my XFX 5850 video card requires two PCI3 power supply cable connections. I didn’t think about that in time. So I will have to use this power supply in a different computer build, which I do have planned – just not right now. This is not a modular power supply, which in my opinion has its advantages. Connectors are usually always the most unreliable part of any electronics system. You end up using most every cable anyway unless you don’t have many disk drives. There are two versions of this power supply: 400 Watts and 500 Watts. They look identical externally. The main difference is the amperage of the 12 volt power supplies. I’ve attached photo images of the specifications since the specifications are not listed in the promotional material. Mounting screws and a power cable are also included. The PCIe cable is identified as well as the CPU cable. These cables look very similar to each other, so they labeled them. The other cables are not labeled, but it isn’t necessary either. I really like Corsair’s products as they are very reliable. I have another Corsair power supply that is especially good and it is shown in the link below. It is more expensive, but worth it if your application needs it. I like the zero fan speed until it starts getting hot, which is rare in my computer. These 400 and 500 Watt power supplies’ fans do use the fan all the time.Another Great Corsair Power Supply I Own:
Corsair RMx Series, RM750x, 750W, Fully Modular Power Supply, 80 PLUS Gold Certified
So if you have a moderate to economy build project, these power supplies will serve your needs very well and for a good price. I use Corsair exclusively for all my new computer builds. They are a very well established company with a solid reputation – cannot go wrong with Corsair.

It’s hard to get excited over a power supply but having to replace several over my 35 plus years working with computers there are things that you look for in a power supply. Here’s what I like about this one. It’s quiet, which is good for first use hopefully it will stay that way. It’s built solid and doesn’t feel like a cheap metal box with sharp corners. The protective mesh is nice and soft. I’ve had other brands where it’s hard to route the wires because the mesh is too stiff. It has 7 SATA connections. It’s a power supply but one that will make life easier when you have to replace one.

I’ve been running this in my office PC now for several months and it’s a good basic power supply. It’s quiet and so far it’s been reliable. It’s probably overkill for the components I have but these days it’s hard to find a mainstream ATX PSU below 400W.I have it mounted in a Fractal Design micro-ATX tower with a Haswell i5 CPU, GTX750Ti GPU, 500GB SSD, 4TB HDD, 8GB RAM and a Blu-ray drive. Most of the time the system is using under 150W (measured at the wall). 80+ is measured between 20-80% utilization so at 33% it’s still efficient. It’s quiet and working well so far so I would definitely recommend it for tower-sized office PC or even a mid-range gaming build. 4 stars = I Like It

I was looking for an inexpensive replacement power supply for a 3D printer as the one that came with the printer ran very hot and had a number of really poor reviews. This 400 watt unit was a good replacement as it runs much cooler and has more than enough power to supply the demands of the 3D printer. I did have to modify one of the connectors to get it to work, but that was quick and easy.

This power supply for a PC is priced at the lower end of the Corsair line of power supplies, but it so far seems to live up to Corsair’s excellent reputation. It runs quietly and functions well, offering reliable power. It offered no installation problems, and it is compatible my CPU platform. All in all, I am satisfied with this product.

William A. Nolan –
Switching out the power supply in a computer tower is easy, and will fix many problems. This one is quiet, with a big fan, and the 500 watts is more than ample for most computers. Before I retired, I fixed computers for a living, so I have changed out a lot of power supplies. It is a good first thing to try if a computer has unknown or intermittent problems.

Good PSU for Overclocking.I run Ryzen 1600 OC’d to 3.7GHz with stock cooler and 2x4GB ram on 2666 OC. No problems here.PSU Calculators recommend 430W PSU on an OC’d 1600 and gtx 1060 system, but I gave it headroom and got a 500W.Since it’s Non-Modular, you can just tie the cables like a loop. Common sense. People over-exaggerate on “There is A LOT of cables.I built my first PC and it was simple and easy to know where the cables go.

My computer started not waking from sleep. It would re-boot and say error on boot-up with overclocking. I tried numerous things before replacing PSU with this one. My gigabyte motherboard seems to like this Corsair psu. No error message. I over-clock minimally with default settings. Enjoy!
Nerd Alert –
The VS400 is a well built power supply for less demanding builds. With an 80 PLUS rating and quiet fan, it is fine for my lower power rig. The main caveat is that there is only one PCI-E 6/8 pin connector, so even older gamer graphics cards may be incompatible. It does include an 8-pin connector for the motherboard. If that isn’t a problem for you, I think this is a good purchase.
J. Leeman –
This is a pretty standard power supply with the nice looming like other products in the Corsair family. For replacing a PSU on a low demand system, it’s perfect. If you’re building a high performance box, I’d opt for a higher wattage supply and a higher efficiency rating. The white series is only about 80% efficient on 115V, which isn’t fantastic, but works for a general purpose home/business box. For the price, it’s practically unbeatable.

This is an amazing budget PSU. I have built several PC systems over the years and while this isn’t the nicest one I have seen, it is definitely at the higher end of budget PSUs and is a great value. Don’t underestimate the importance of having a good power supply; it is one of the most important components in a PC. Packaging was simple although it took me a while to find the tape on the box that needs to be cut to allow it to be opened. Neither the PSU box itself nor the cables (of which there are plenty) came with any storage bags; I am pointing this out because I have purchased other high end PSUs that did come with storage bags, but for me this is not a huge problem. This PSU has extremely low noise as advertised. This 400 watt PSU also features a 3 year warranty. You won’t regret this purchase if you are looking for a low-cost PSU. Just keep in mind that, depending on your needs, you might want to spend more money for a higher end PSU (e.g. a 750 watt PSU with 7 year warranty that includes those fancy storage bags mentioned above).

I like this low-powered option for my cheap build. It is reasonably quiet, but there is no reason for it to be otherwise. This is an excellent choice for an e-rig; if I were to have gone with a dedicated graphics card, I would have gone with something more powerful.I recommend the VS400 for budget builds with low power requirements.

I am running a Gateway DX4870 which came with a 300w power supply. I wanted to upgrade my graphics but obviously that power supply wasn’t going to cut it. When this opportunity presented itself I jumped at it. During the days I waited for the power supply to arrive I read a lot about both the graphics card I wanted (RX480) and the power supply.Of particular interest was the versioning, i.e. what does “white” mean versus Gold, etc. It turns out that the lower versions like this one can have fluctuation in power stability. Toms Hardware recommends gold (or 1st tier) for graphics. This caused some worry. One frustrating item I couldn’t verify prior to receiving the psu was the connectors for the pci-e cable. Perhaps it is a given, but not being a hardware guru I was left wondering if it had 6pin connectors or 8. I couldn’t find that in the online documentation. It turns out it has 2 pci-e 6+2 connectors. When the psu arrived it was in pristine condition and looks great. I had only two motherboard items to connect (24pin and cpu 4pin). At first I thought I was out of luck as the cpu connector was 8pin. Some research on Toms Hardware (awesome resource) explained that the 8pin cpu connector splits apart into a 4pin. Problem solved!Installing the psu was a piece of cake, it conformed perfectly in the case. I wasn’t sure before hand after reading a lot about how the Gateway used a lot of propitiatory architecture. One issue, which I probably could overcome with some more patience, is the thickness of the cables makes it hard to put into a small case. At any rate, it didn’t take long to get everything connected. When I started the computer it booted perfectly and the psu was totally quiet.I have another machine with a CX model psu and it works well too. I’ve been impressed with the quality of the power supplies and in particular this one is very good. By the way, I put the rx480 in and it booked right up and I’ve had no problem with it.For the price, it is hard to beat this PSU.

Considering mine isn’t in the most well-ventilated area and only makes a little noise, I think this product holds up well. Could be my naivety here but it seemed to have too many wires and connectors coming off of it. Like…I’m not sure what I would need 12 SATA ports for? Was a bit of a hassle finding a place for all those wires. I don’t know if this is industry standard so to say.
